HENDERSON -- Barbara Ann Wade Haythe, 57, of 531 Skenes Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at her home.
She was the daughter of Sallie Wade and the late Edward Wade. She was a member of the Vernon Hill Baptist Church in Person County.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Grey Haythe of Pottstown, Pa.; her mother, Sallie Ann Wade of Henderson; two daughters, Areatha Dunston and Avis Tamekia Haythe, both of Henderson; five sisters, Sis Wade of Pleasantville, N.J., Josephine Burton of Roxboro, Pattie Royster and Genny Wade, both of Henderson and Pauline Crowell of Oxford; three brothers, Thomas Wade of Richmond, Va., Joe Louis Wade and the Rev. James Edward Wade, both of Oxford; four grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Vernon Hill Baptist Church in Person County. The Rev. Ollie Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc.

Milton ‘T.C.’ Jackson

HENDERSON -- Milton “T.C.” Jackson, 60, of East Orange, N.J., died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Veterans Hospital in Newark, N.J. He was a Vance County native.
He was a professional truck driver.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ministers Outreach Tabernacle by Bishop James Terry. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Delores Jackson; two daughters, Karen Wright Jackson of Henderson and Amber Milton of Newark, N.J.; two sons, James Milton and Tyrone Milton, both of Newark; his parents, Jiles Jackson and Julia Williams Jackson of Henderson; one brother, Roger Jackson of Newark; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson and at other times at the residences of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Vass, 721 State St., and Mr. and Mrs. Jiles Jackson, 901 Water St.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Jesse W. Parrish

SMITHFIELD -- Jesse Wilbert Parrish, 82, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at his home. He was a Johnston County native and the son of the late Jesse James and Mattie Blackmon Parrish.
He was a charter member of the Sharon Baptist Church where he has served as secretary of the Sunday School Department for more than 14 years. He retired from the Smithfield Herald, where he had worked as a typesetter for more than 45 years. While attending Smithfield High School, he was voted all-conference in football and basketball.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the Dr. Sherrill Stevens and the Rev. Robert Coates officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Daisy Leigh Lassiter Parrish; sons, Jesse W. Parrish Jr. of Clayton and Bill Parrish of Henderson; one daughter, Patricia Parrish Holloman of Smithfield; one sister, Betty Jane Nesbitt of Madison, Ga.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Parrish Funeral Home of Selma.

Emily L. Koster

HENDERSON — Emily Louise Noller Koster, age 97, a resident of 151 Franklin Lane, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.
She was a native of Murrhardt, Germany and was the daughter of the late Adam and Magdalene Barritter Noller. She was the widow of William Koster, a homemaker, and a member of the Lutheran Faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Gertrude Marie K. Marshall, of Henderson, one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in Valparaiso, Ind., by Deaconess Dianna Iltzsche.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Ferbian B. Williams

CLARKSVILLE — Ferbian Beatrice Williams, 61, of Clarksville, Va., died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
She was a native of Mecklenburg County, Va., and the daughter of the late Alvis and Ella Francis Tarry Hargrove. She was the widow of Horace Williams.
She was retired from New York City Health and Hospital Corp., she was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ in Clarksville, Va.
Surviving are four children, Mark A. Williams of Mastic, N.Y., Kenneth B. Williams of Brooklyn, N.Y., Keith B. Williams of Riverhead, N.Y., and Patrina M. Williams of San Francisco, Calif.; four sisters, Juanita Walker of Roosevelt, N.Y., Doretha Davis of Williamsboro, Ercell Terry of Capitol Heights, Md., and Deon Geotz of Clinton, Md.; five brothers, Alvis D. Hargrove of Buffalo, N.Y., Clifton L. and Ronald H. Hargrove, both of Williamsboro, and Theodore E. Hargrove of Townsville; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Thursday at Antioch United Church of Christ in Clarksville, Va. The Rev. John E. Durham will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clarksville, Va.

Blanche C. Bradley

MYRTLE BEACH -- Blanche Cottrell Bradley, 78, of Myrtle Beach, formerly of the Moulton community, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Franklin Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Rock First Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Samuel C. Newton of Henderson and David Bradley of Greenville; sisters, Annie Leigh Pernell and Ernestine Cannady, both of Henderson; and two grandsons.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
Arrangements are by Lancaster Funeral Home.

Dallas J. Howard Sr.

HENDERSON -- Dallas Jonathan Howard Sr., 68, of 1181 North Chavis Road, Kittrell, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Duke Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced later by E.C. Terrys Funeral Home.

Lacy T. Tart Jr.

HENDERSON -- Lacy Talmadge “Pete” Tart, Jr., age 57, a resident of 1726 North Carolina Highway 39 South, died Wednesday morning at his home.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Lacy and Virginia Tunstall Tart.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was owner and operator of Henderson Heat & Air Condition Service.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Russell Woodbridge. Burial will follow in the Blacknall cemetery in Kittrell.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Poythress Tart, of the home; two sons, Timothy A. Tart, of Henderson and Michael Boykin of Spring Hope; one stepdaughter, Michelle Newton, of Henderson; one stepson, Buddy Raines, of Henderson; two sisters, Stella Shealey of Henderson and Shirley Hathaway of Franklinton; two brothers, Tyrone Tart of Henderson and Freeman Tart of Wisconsin; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be James Poythress, Bruce Stainback, Ken Arnold, Willie Edwards, Steve Lyles, Jimmy Ray Boyd, Jason Boyd, and Gene Watkins.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Lucy H. Overby

WARRENTON -- Lucy Hester Overby, of Macon, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Va.
Arrangements will be made by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Irene S. Ellison

HENDERSON -- Irene Smith Ellison, 88, of 1409 Quail Run, Apt. B, died in Britthaven Nursing Home in Henderson. She was a Halifax County native and the daughter of the late Willie and Mary Eliza Clarke. She was the widow of the late Charlie Gilbert Ellison.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she was the president of the Missionary Circle, a Senior Deaconess, member of the Senior Choir, Prayer Band and served as the third vice president of the Vance County Missionary Union. She was also a certified Health Care Worker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Bethel Baptist Church. The Rev. J.H. Bryant will officiate, assisted by the Revs. Jamil Cosson and Mary Cannady. Burial will follow in the Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Renee Sykes of New York, Beatrice Barnhart of Englewood, N.J.; one sister, Hilda Davis of New York; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 1409 Quail Run, Apt. B.
Floral bearers will be missionaries of the church.
The body will be on view at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service until taken to the church to lie in state one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Mozelle J. Flood

HENDERSON -- Mozelle Joyner Flood, 83, formerly of 1246 Oakridge Ave., Henderson, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was a Franklin County native and the daughter of the late June and Onnie Rudd Joyner. She was the widow of Donald A. Flood Sr.
She was a retired employee of the Vance County Public Schools. She was a member of West End Baptist Church, and the James B. White Chapter #199 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bunn cemetery in Bunn by the Rev. Richard A. Walker.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan F. Hayes of Henderson; two sons, Barry Flood of Roanoke, Va., and Donald A. Flood Jr. of Harker’s Island; three sisters, Emma J. Phelps, Annie Jo J. Langley, both of Louisburg, and Nell J. Carlson of Raleigh; a brother, Tommy Joyner of Raleigh; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Randy and Susan Hayes, 3748 Southerland Mill Road, Henderson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 619 Dabney Drive, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Dallas J. Howard Sr.

HENDERSON -- Dallas Jonothan Howard Sr., 69, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Duke Medical Center. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Junius and Bessie Smith Howard.
At an early age, he joined the Kittrell First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for several years and a faithful member. He was educated in the Vance County Public Schools and later enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict 1950-1954 and honorably discharged in 1954.
After returning to Henderson, he attended Harris Barber College in Raleigh, where he received his barber license. While an Army reservist, he worked at Ideal Barber Shop. He was employed at Laurens Glass Plant and later became owner/operator of Dallas Auto Sales and Andrews Avenue Shell Station. Most recently, he was employed with Vance County as a jailer, receiving various certificates of achievements in the field of law enforcement from U.N.C. and Vance-Granville Community College.
Surviving are one son, Dallas J. Howard Jr. of Henderson; one daughter, Tracy Michelle Howard of Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren; and one brother, Junious Howard of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kittrell First Baptist Church in Kittrell with Rev. M. Clemons officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.R. Fogg. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at E.C. Terrys Funeral Service from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday and other times at 1181 Chavis Road, Kittrell.
Floral bearers will be church deaconesses.
Pallbearers will be church deacons.
Arrangements are by E.C. Terrys Funeral Service.

Autumn A. Newhouse

OXFORD -- Autumn Aleea Newhouse, two month old infant daughter of Robert Earl and Pamela Moss Newhouse, died Wednesday night at Maria Parham Hospital. She was born in Vance County Aug. 11, 2000.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Willis Herman. Burial will follow in the Mt. Auburn United Church Of Christ cemetery in Manson.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Emilee Elizabeth Newhouse, of the home; her maternal grandparents, Robert Donald Moss and Shirley B. Moss, of Richmond, Virginia; her paternal grandparents, Roy C. Newhouse, Sr. and Janet A. Newhouse of Henderson; her maternal great-grandmother, Odell Barnes, of Rocky Mount; and her paternal great-grandfather, John Newhouse, of Henderson.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 5222 Beechwood Hill, Oxford, N.C. in the Tabbs Creek Subdivision.
Serving as active pall bearer will be the Rev. Eddie Nutt. Arrangements are by the J. M. White Funeral Home.

Lucy H. Overby

MACON -- Lucy Hester Overby, 95, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Community Memorial Healthcenter. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late George and Lizzie Rideout Hester. She was the widow of Eugene Roy Overby.
She was the oldest member of Macon United Methodist Church and retired from Carolina Sportswear.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Macon United Methodist Church by the Revs. Carol Groves and Rob Evans. Burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Ethel Jean Collins of Warrenton and Mary Donna Clary of Macon; one sister, Mary Hester Shearin of Warren Plains; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

James T. Owen Sr.

OXFORD -- James Thomas Owen Sr., 58, of 2085-A Sanders Road, Stem, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at his home. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late John A. and Clay Guerrant Owen.
He was a member of Stem United Methodist Church and was owner-operator of the Country Store on Old Route No. 75, south of Oxford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stovall Baptist Church by the Revs. John Yount, George Custer and Grace Dill. Burial will be in Stovall Memorial cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Hart Owen of the home; two daughters, Tammy Owen Tatum of Raleigh and Priscilla Owen Hawkins of Willow Springs; two sons, James Thomas Owen Jr. of Norlina and Warren F. Owen of Stem; five grandchildren; one brother, Clarence A. Owen of Gibsonville; and one sister, Polly O. Hart of Stovall.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home. The body will be taken home Saturday morning prior to the funeral service.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Rosa E. Southerland

HENDERSON -- Rosa E. Southerland, 100, of the Guardian Care Nursing Facility, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at the Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced later by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

John T. Davis

WARRENTON -- John T. “Johnny” Davis, 91, of the Parktown community, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was a Warren County native and the son of the late Zollie Davis and Pattie Davis.
He attended the Shocco School and joined Shocco Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He worked dutifully in his church and became a deacon in the late 1930’s, a position he held until his death. He also served as Sunday School superintendent and sexton.
While residing in Philadelphia, Pa., he was employed by Exide Battery Company. After returning to Warren County, in 1950 he joined the staff of Brown’s Funeral Services Inc., a position he held until his death failed. He was also a self-employed barber, servicing many resident of the community. He was a member of the Grove Hill Masonic Lodge No. 523.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shocco Chapel Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Lennis Thorpe, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Omega Richardson Davis of the home; two daughters, Jeanetta Davis Alston of Philadelphia, Pa., and Catherine Davis Foushee of Piscataway, N.J.; one brother, Romeo Davis of Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Pearl Alston and Esther Newell, both of Warrenton, and Lena Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The body will be on view from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and will lie in state at the church for one hour before the service.
The family will meet with friends at the home of Ella Andrews.
Arrangements are by Brown’s Funeral Services Inc.
