Roselle P. Copeland

WARRENTON — Roselle Pitchford Copeland, 52, of the Embro community died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in Warren County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Greater Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Macon by the Rev. Edward Harrington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Garfield VaShon; her mother, Geneva W. Pitchford of Warrenton; four brothers, Henry T. Pitchford Jr., Clifton E. Pitchford and Walter M. Pitchford of Warrenton and James L. Pitchford of Fayetteville; three sisters, Clementene P. Rose of Warrenton, Annie P. Pressley of Cheltenham, Pa., and Lillian P. Kersey of Lanham, Md.; and two grandchildren.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton until taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Donald B. Fowler

HENDERSON — Donald Burton Fowler, 74, of 176 Old Watkins Road died Friday, June 15, 2001, at his home. He was a native of Hialeah, Fla., and was the son of the late Arthur Austin and Myrtle King Fowler. He was the widower of Mildred Alice Fowler.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired X-ray technician in New York.
Memorial services will be conducted in Inwood, N.Y., with burial in Greenlawn cemetery in Hempstead, N.Y.
Surviving are three daughters, Tracy F. Eatmon of Henderson, Alice Ann F. Eller of Charlotte and Stacy F. Holstein of Atlanta; one sister, Irene Fowler of Atlanta; and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Ransom Hawkins Jr.

HENDERSON — Ransom Hawkins Jr., 52, formerly of Henderson, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at the UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

William McDonald Jr.

STEM — William “Bill” McDonald Jr., 68, of 3636 38th Ave., Moline, Ill., died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at C-Trinity Hospital in Moline. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late William R. and Florance Hester McDonald.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers and the labor representative for the Rock Island County board of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He served on CAP, retired from KIH of East Moline, was a commission member for South Moline Township, a volunteer member of the Salvation Army and on the board of directors for the local Red Cross in Moline, served for 13 years with the United Way, was chairman for Quad City Commission Services and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Revs. John Rigsbee and Robert Wilkins. Burial will follow in Tallly Ho First Baptist Church cemetery in Stem.
Surviving are his wife, Kay Stanley McDonald; two daughters, Crystal Soseman of Rock Island, Ill., and Anna McKay of Moline; five sisters, Cathy Autrey of Durham, Jean Evans of Creedmoor, Joyce Blue of Stem, Patsy McDonald of Henderson and Dorothy Parham of Oxford; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Joyce Blue, 1734 Sanders Road, Stem.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Wanda L. Riggan

HENDERSON — Wanda Kay Lewis Riggan, 42, of 115 Brodie Road died Friday, June 15, 2001. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Charles William and Ruth Edwards Lewis.
She was a medically retired nurse’s aide and attended the Freedom Life Church of God.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elmwood cemetery by the Rev. Jeff Prewer.
Surviving are one daughter, Ashley Riggan of Henderson; two sons, Jason Lewis and Brandon Riggan, both of Henderson; and one brother, Charles W. Lewis Jr. of Henderson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

James H. Roberson Sr.

HENDERSON — James Henry Roberson Sr., 82, of 3000 Kelly Road died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Hunter J. and Julia Ross Roberson.
He was the retired owner and operator of the former Roberson’s Grocery and Service Station. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Church of Holy Innocents.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Gardens by Dr. Richard A. Walker.
Surviving are his wife, Winnie Dickerson Roberson; a daughter, Vickie R. Brame of Henderson; two sons, James H. “J.R.” Roberson Jr. of Franklinton and Donald R. “Donnie” Roberson of Henderson; five sisters, Doris R. Williamson and Lizzie R. Carraway, both of Henderson, Gladys R. Burkart of Independence, Mo., Barbara R. Cummings of Washington, D.C., and Nellie R. Weaver of Kittrell; four brothers, Willard Roberson and Melvin Roberson, both of Henderson, Grover C. “Billy” Roberson of Portsmouth, Va., and Howard Roberson of Ahoskie; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Lawrence and Vickie Brame, 280 Kelly Road in Henderson.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Charlotte M. Stansbury

DURHAM — Charlotte Marie Stansbury, 55, of 207 N. Guthrie Ave. died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at her home. She was a Durham County native and the daughter of Christine Wilson Stansbury of Durham and the late Leroy Stansbury.
She was of the Baptist faith and was formerly employed by GTE.
Memorial services will be held at a time to be announced.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a sister, Pat Pottorff of Durham, and two brothers, Larry Wayne Stansbury of Roxboro and Ronnie E. Stansbury of Durham.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Gracie Y. White

NORLINA — Gracie Young White, 80, of Norlina died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Franklin Regional Medical Center. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Thomas and Maggie Kimball Young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. White.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Wise Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Yates. Interment will follow at Zion United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Ann W. Powell of Norlina; two brothers, James Young of Youngsville and Eugene Young of Warrenton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to the Wise Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Irene G. Crews

WARRENTON -- Irene Goode Crews, 94, formerly of the Snow Hill community of Warren County, died Thursday, June 14, 2001. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Charles Goode and Mollie Ellis Goode Boyd.
She was a member of Snow Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Missionary Circle when it was active and attended regularly until her health declined.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Snow Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. A.F. Horton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Shirley C. Street of Durham; five sons, Samuel M. Crews of Detroit, Charles L. Crews of Soul City, William D. Crews of Norlina, D. Walter Crews of Warrenton and Roy L. Crews Sr. of Wise; one sister, Alean Scott of Macon; 25 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.
The family will meet with friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday before the service and other times at the home of Roy Crews.
The body will be on view from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Brown’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

William T. Harris

HENDERSON -- William T. Harris, 80, of 449 Hamilton St. died at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services of Henderson.

Irvin Peace

KITTRELL -- Irvin Peace, 85, of 2887 Charlie Grissom Road died Friday, June 15, 2001, at his residence. He was a Vance County native.
He was a member of New Covenant Christian Center, where he was a member of the Board of Deacons.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Zelton Hunter. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens in Henderson.
Surviving are his wife, Mary P. Peace; one son, Ervin McDonald Peace of Oxford; six daughters, Carolyn Tabourn and Julia Peace, both of Kittrell, Jackie Peace of Richmond, Va., Brenda Peace of Pottstown, Pa., Cynthia Peace of Durham, and Sherie Peace-Foulkes of Reading, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.

William T. Harris

HENDERSON -- William Thomas Harris, 80, of 449 Hamilton St., died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Frank and Goldie Reavis Harris.
He retired from Carolina Baggins Mill after more than 36 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m Wednesday in the Chapel of Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service by the Rev. William C. Brodie.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Allen Harris of the Henderson; one daughter, Anita H. Best of Charlotte; one brother, Cary Harris of Boston, Mass.; and three sisters, Lucille Rogers, Ethel Evans, Mozelle Scott, all of Henderson.
The body will be on view from 1 to 6 p.m. today. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Ransom Hawkins Jr.

HENDERSON -- Ransom Hawkins Jr., 52, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at UNC Hospitals. He was a Vance County native and the son of Elizabeth B. Hawkins and the late Ransom Hawkins Sr.
He was employed as a brickmason.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today at Young Memorial Church by the Rev. Walter Young. Interment will be in the church cemetery
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a son, Ransom Hawkins III of Siler City; six brothers, James Hawkins, Glen Hawkins, Johnny Hawkins and Samuel Hawkins, all of Henderson, Lynn Hawkins of Rocky Mount and George Hawkins of Baden; and three sisters, Alice Hargrove, Diane Hawkins and Annie Hawkins, all of Henderson.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Viola M. Horton

HENDERSON -- Viola Matthews Horton, age 67, a resident of 1457 Perry Ave., died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Vance Co. and was the daughter of the late Wortle W. Matthews and Janie Faucette Matthews Weaver of Henderson. She was the widow of Rev. Isaac Clinton “Ike” Horton. She was a charter member and matriarch of Bible Baptist Church where she served as the church Secretary and Treasurer and was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church by the Rev. Wilbert Horton, Rev. Jessie Matthews and the Rev. Roger Williams. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Kathy R. Horton of the home; two sons, Rev. Isaac Wilbert Horton and Russell Wade Horton, both of Henderson; one sister, Daisy M. Fleming of Henderson; four grandchildren, Isaac Keith Horton, Brittany Patricia Horton, Lindsey Paige Horton and Makayla Leigh Horton. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard W. Matthews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be: Kenneth Arnold, Sr., Ken Arnold, Jr., Roger Fuller, Sr., Roger Fuller, Jr., Ronnie Perkinson, Terry Perkinson, Thomas McDaniel and Jay Pegram.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be men of the Bible Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home on Perry Ave.

Ephraim Martin

HENDERSON -- Ephraim Martin, of Guardian Care of Henderson, died Monday, June 18, 2001.

Jeffery Steed

HENDERSON -- Jeffery Steed, 45, of 902 Bridges St., died in Oxford Manor Nursing Center.
Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Jeanetta K. West

WARRENTON -- Jeanetta Kearney West, 63, of Warrenton, died Saturday, June 16, 2001.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Coley Springs Baptist Church in the Afton community. The Rev. Carson F. Jones, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Charlotte “Cookie” Stokes and Josephine W. Hunter; two sons, Jimmie and Steven West; 16 grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard and Reginald Ramey.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Fuenral Home of Warrenton.

Billy W. Allgood

HENDERSON -- Billy Wayne Allgood, 52, of 445 Alexander Ave. died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at his home. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Annie Laura Darnell Allgood.
He was a former truck driver with Perry Lumber Co.
Memorial services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Allen Ray Ayscue.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly Taylor Allgood; a son, Stephen Craig Allgood of Henderson; two sisters, Essie Lee Allgood Tant and Carrie Mae Allgood, both of Henderson; two brothers, Roy Daniel Allgood of Red Oak, Va., and Benjamin F. Allgood Jr. of Burlington; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service and at the home.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Mary E. Ayscue

HENDERSON -- Mary Elizabeth Ayscue, 68, of 116 Yaqui St., Virginia Beach, Va., died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the home of her niece, Sherri Lynn Gupton Mundy, also of Virginia Beach. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Clarence Bennett Ayscue Sr. and Mabel Bartholomew Ayscue.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Charles Gupton. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are a sister, Peggy A. Reavis of Hickory, and a brother, Clarence Bennett “C.B.” Ayscue Jr. of Virginia Beach.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Flowers Funeral Home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Sain, Roger Roberson, Tommy Roberson, Harvey Currin, John Ayscue, J.W. Bartholomew, Butch Bartholomew and John Reavis.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Caldonia P. Carroll

HENDERSON -- Caldonia Plummer Carroll, 96, of the Guardian Care Nursing Facility died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the facility. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Rev. Matthew Plummer and Hattie Steed Plummer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brookston Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one stepdaughter, Mary Ella Carroll Chavis of South Ozone Park, N.Y.; five siblings, Henry Plummer of Baltimore, Dorothy Plummer Carroll and Lottie Plummer Gregory, both of Henderson, John Plummer of Hampton, Va., and Glenola Plummer of Baltimore; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.
