Willie Johnson
WARRENTON -- Willie Johnson, 81, of the Wise community died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.
Elizabeth Lassiter Perkinson
HENDERSON -- Elizabeth Lassiter Perkinson, age 79, a resident of 1791 Hwy. 39 South, died Tuesday at her home. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Melville Gray and Josie Grissom Lassiter and was the widow of Eugene Aubrey Perkinson. She was a retired head cashier for the A&P Food Stores for over forty years and was the oldest Charter member of the Blessed Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and a member of the WMU.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Blessed Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Donnie Perkinson, the Rev. Jon Owens and the Rev. Tim Short. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Donnie Perkinson and wife Becky and Gerald Perkinson and wife Judy, all of Henderson; one sister, Josephine L. Langley and husband Thomas of Henderson; three brothers, Eugene Lassiter and wife Margaret, James Lassiter and wife Mary, and Melville Lassiter Jr. and wife Judy, all of Henderson; five grandchildren, Michelle Martin, Angie Rogers, Stephanie Loughlin, Donna Snoddy and Tracey Velez; two stepgrandchildren, Bruce Stewart and Bridgette Stewart; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Ayscue, James Hicks, Lynwood Denton, Tom Hoyle, Joey West, Tommy Blanks, Jack Robertson, Charles Garrett, Verlain Bailey and Henry Owen.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Vergie Lassiter Faulkner.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to the Blessed Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, 741 Dabney Road, Henderson, N.C. 27537.

Bettie S. Reavis
HENDERSON -- Bettie Smithwick Reavis, 69, of 135 Boothe Ave. died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Birdie Tucker Pyles.
She received her formal education in the Alabama school system.
She moved to New York and gained employment as a teaching assistant at P.S. 77 in the Bronx. She served as president of the tenants association in Bronx River and as a Girl Scouts troop leader at the Bronx River Community Center.
She returned to Henderson in 1981. She later became president of the Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows and opened her own business, Bettie’s Day Care.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Concord Baptist Church by the Rev. S.E. Blaylock. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery in Wise.
Surviving are children Lisa S. Hull of Brooklyn, N.Y., Leroy J. Smithwick Jr. of Manhattan, N.Y., Freddie Smithwick of Peekskill, N.Y., Barbara S. Skipwith and Marie S. Kearney, both of Henderson, and Richard Gibbs of the Bronx; siblings James Pyles of Anniston, Ala., and Carrie Mae Taylor, Mamie Lee Johnson, Ruby Pyles, Eugene Pyles, Winston Pyles and Clifford Pyles, all of Lakeland, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday at 7 p.m. at the Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church. Viewing will be Friday from noon to 6 p.m. in the Garnes Funeral Chapel.
Floral bearers will be deaconesses of Concord Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be deacons of Concord Baptist Church. Honorary floral bearers will be Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows.

Sherie Smith
HENDERSON -- Sherie Smith, 18, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, in an automobile accident in California. She was the daughter of Samuel Smith and Sylvia Smart Davidson, as well as the granddaughter of Narcissus Smith of Henderson and Savannah Tharrington of Oxford.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Williams Funeral Home of Henderson.
Bobby T. Wallace
REDINGTON SHORES, Fla. -- Bobby Thornton Wallace, age 69, a resident of Redington Shores, Fla., died Friday, June 15, 2001. He was a Vance Co. native, born in Middleburg, May 16th, 1932. He was the son of the late John Thomas and Maggie Tillotson Wallace. He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Dorothy Ann Wallace.
He is survived by one brother, William Elmo Wallace Sr. of Hopewell, Va.
A graveside memorial service will be held later at the Lewis J. Gupton Memorial cemetery.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Estelle W. Ragan, Loura W. Dickerson, Gertrude W. Short, Hildy W. Williams and Elosie W. Fowler; two brothers, Jessie Wallace and John Thomas Wallace Sr.
Other arrangements will be announced by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Johnnie A. Weary
GRASSY CREEK -- Johnnie A. Weary, 73, of 9506 Grassy Creek Road died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Oxford Manor. The Granville County native was the son of the late Amos Weary and Cora Williamson Weary.
He was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Grassy Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Boone. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Matthews Weary; two daughters, Judy Weary Hudson of Grassy Creek and Mrs. Neal Short of Oxford; one son, Ronnie Weary of Grassy Creek; two stepsons, Harvey West of Grassy Creek and Dennis West of Bullock; four sisters, Katie W. Reams and Marie W. Williamson, both of Oxford, Sally Newby of Bullock, and Ida W. Keeton of Grassy Creek; one brother, Charlie Weary of Grassy Creek; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Riggins Weary; a son, David M. Weary; and a stepson, Jason West.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gray Hudson, 9516 Grassy Creek Road, Bullock.

James M. Williams Jr.
WARRENTON -- James Milton Williams Jr., 57, of Route 2, Macon, died Friday, June 29, 2001, in Henderson. He was the son of the late James M. Williams Sr. and the late Annie Garnes Williams and attended Greater Lovely Hill Baptist Church.
He was employed for many years by Detroit Diesel Co. in Michigan.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Harris-Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Warrenton. Burial will be in the Greater Lovely Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Williams-Thorb of Wendell; a son, Douglas Jerome Williams of Detroit; a sister, Shirley Willis of Richmond Hills, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
Harris-Turner Funeral Home of Warrenton is in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy S. Allen
HENDERSON -- Dorothy Shearin Allen, age 78, a resident of 222 Yowland Road, died
Thursday morning at her home. She was a native of Warren County and was the daughter of the late Jesse Vance and Ellen Wemyss Shearin and was the widow of Judge Ben U. Allen.
She was a graduate of East Carolina University and was a retired Vance County schoolteacher, having taught for 35 years, a member of the First Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Retired School Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, from which she received the Clara Barton Honor Award.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church by Dr.
Marion D. Lark. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by one son, Glen B. Allen and wife Wendy of Henderson; three grandchildren, Chelsey Allen, Meredith Allen and Paige Allen; one sister, Belle S. Bright of Warrenton; and one brother, Grover L. Shearin of Warrenton.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White
Funeral Home. At other times they will be at her home at 222 Yowland Road.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Randall King, George David Hoyle, Danny Currin,
Dwight Green, John Cline and Marty Barnett.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all members of Delta Kappa Gamma and all of her bridge clubs.

Edith D. Barton
BUTNER -- Edith Deaton Barton, 84, of Butner died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Person Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Montgomery County, the daughter of the late Noah G. and Lurenda Britt Deaton, and the widow of Eugene E. Barton.
She was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor by the Rev. Jack Cox.
Surviving are two daughters, Peggy T. Fisher of Butner and Shirley Louden of Stem; four sisters, Johnnie Mae Bean of Baltimore and Frances McDonald, Odessa Johnson and Madeline Johnson, all of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, Sherman Deaton of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will follow the graveside service at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.

Deshawn Fields
HENDERSON -- Deshawn Fields, infant son of Tiffinay Fields and Christopher Lee, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are one brother, Keshwan Fields, and grandparents Gloria Durham Fields and Lucious Glover.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service by the Rev. Mary Emma Evans. Interment will follow in the Blacknall cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.
Fannie P. Pearson
HENDERSON -- Fannie Plummer Pearson, 81, of 210 Booth St. died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Johnny Pearson and Mary Anna Bullock Pearson and the widow of Samuel Russell Pearson.
She received her early education in Vance County public schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Winston-Salem Teachers College and a master’s from North Carolina Central University.
She taught in Warren County public schools for more than 40 years and was a member of the North Carolina Education Association and the National Education Association. She also was a member of the Winston-Salem Alumni Association.
She was a member of St. Delight United Holy Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, president of the Missionary Convention, building fund treasurer and assistant secretary of the church. She was active in the Southern District Missionary Department, where she served as a workshop chairwoman for the Home and Foreign Missionary Convention. She was a workshop presenter for the Southern District Ushers Union.
She is survived by five aunts, four uncles, three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive visitors Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.
Bettie S. Reavis

HENDERSON -- Gloria Jean West Vega, 62, of 1528 S. Lynnbank Road died Wednesday night, July 4, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of Lois Faulkner West of Henderson and the late Thomas Devro West. She was a member of the Forest Hills Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jesse Matthews and the Rev. Aubrey Florence. Burial will follow in the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Martin Vega; three daughters, Tammy B. Roesner and Martina V. Wallace, both of Henderson, and Bonnie S.
Huskey of Hillsborough; two sons, Travis Boyd and Scottie Barham, both of Henderson; one sister, Thelma W. Edwards of Henderson; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Allen West.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Tammy Roesner, 201 Morgan’s Place, off Vicksboro Road.
Serving as active pallbearers will be W.A. West, Larry West, James D. Edwards, John Huskey, Ben Layton, Chris Layton and Jimmy Carter.

Willie Mae Adcock Huff Williams
OXFORD -- Willie Mae Adcock Huff Williams, 79, a resident of 208 Prospect Avenue, died July 5th at Oxford Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie N. Adcock Sr. and Essie Frazier Adcock. She was first married to the late William Huff and later to the late John Louis Williams. She was a member of Delrayno Baptist Church and was retired from Murdoch Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Hilton Moore and the Rev. Irvin Adcock. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Huff Harris and husband Joel Harris Sr. of Henderson; a stepdaughter, Joyce W. Williams and husband Mac of Oxford; a stepson, James C. Williams and wife Peggy of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Lucille A. Thomas and Mildred A. Woodlief, both of Oxford; a brother, Charles Adcock of Oxford; grandchildren Joel “Jay” Harris Jr., Kenneth Owen, Tommy Owen, Michael Williams, Steve Williams; and five great-grandchildren.

WARRENTON -- Junious Brown, 80, of the Wise community died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Macon by the Rev. William Powers, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three sisters, Mary L. Alston of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Cora M. Parham of Warrenton and Carrie L. Robinson of Piscataway, N.J.; and two brothers, James E. Brown of Baltimore and Charlie A. Brown of Palmer Spring, Va.

Annie R. Dent
WARRENTON -- Annie Ruth Dent, 50, of Baltimore, formerly of Warrenton, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, in Baltimore.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Shocco Chapel Baptist Church in Warrenton by the Rev. Lennis Thorpe, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sisters, Jernita Bullock and Ella Brooks, both of Baltimore; an adopted mother, Katie Brooks of Baltimore; and an adopted son, Darell Whitby of Baltimore.
The body will be on view at Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton until taken to the church one hour before the services.

Amy B. Harris
STEM -- Amy Beth Harris, 22, of 2006 Mineral Springs Drive died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center. She was a native of Harrison County, W.Va., and the daughter of the late William David Harris.
She attended United Pentecostal Church in Durham and was employed by Ramada Limited in Creedmoor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Johnny Godair. Burial will be in South Granville Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Irene Corbin Barnett and Thomas E. Barnett Jr. of Stem; a brother, Justin Harris of Stem; her paternal grandparents, Thomas E. Barnett Sr. and Joann Smith, both of Ohio; and her maternal grandmother, Rita Crothers of Ohio.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.
