HENDERSON -- James Douglas Marrow, 81, of 983 Bullocksville Park Road died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
He was a Vance County native and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Willie Ann Bullock Marrow; three sons, Kenneth Marrow of Plymouth Meeting, N.J., Glenn Marrow of Landsdale, Pa., and Roy Marrow of Philadelphia; two daughters, Collett Teague of Henderson and Sylvia Smith of Landsdale, Md.; one brother, Leonard Golden of Philadelphia; one sister, Geneva Fuller of Philadelphia; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at the residence.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Edith Self

OXFORD -- Edith Self, 68, of 217 W. College St. died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Granville Medical Center.

Mary D. Welch

HENDERSON -- Mary Dandridge Derlin Welch, 82, of New Boston, Texas, died Monday, November 19, 2001, in Dallas, Texas.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Vance and Virginia Williams Bunn. She was the widow of the former Judge and Attorney Alfred Welch, who passed away in 1991. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Vance Bunn Jr.
Mrs. Welch was a former Dance Teacher and was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in New Boston.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, at 2 p.m., in Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Daniel Barker.
Surviving are a son, Phillip Dan Welch, and wife Linda, of Richardson, Texas; a granddaughter, Angela Welch of Raleigh, N.C.; and a grandson, Timothy Welch of Richardson, Texas.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery, immediately following the service.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Carl V. Duncan Jr.

HENDERSON -- Carl Vester Duncan Jr., 56, of 876 Vanco Mill Road, Henderson, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Carl Vester Duncan Sr. and Velma Fulcher Duncan.
Mr. Duncan was employed by Food Lion Inc. on Dabney Drive and was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, conducted by O. Joseph Jones, pastor. Burial will follow in the Duncan Family cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara White Duncan; three sons, William J. Duncan and friend Nickie, Timmy W. Duncan, both of Henderson, and C. Alan Duncan and wife Roxanne of Charlottesville, Va.; six grandchildren, Kristie Duncan, Casey Duncan, Blane Duncan, Morgan Duncan, Tyler Duncan and Tori Duncan.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 876 Vanco Mill Road, Henderson.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, c/o Janet Wynne, 635 Garrett Road, Henderson, N.C. 27537.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Henry Person

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Henry Person, 83, of 839 Young Ave., Petersburg, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in Virginia. He was a native of Vance County and the son of the late Alfred and Annabelle Hicks Person.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Barbara Lucille Henderson Person of Petersburg, Va.; his children, Charles Person of McKenney, Bernadine Person of Petersburg, Celestine Allen of Riverside, Calif., Horace Person of Harrisonburg, DeQuincy Person and Jerry Person of Petersburg, Jerome Person of Charlottesville; two stepchildren; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bessie Person of Henderson and Cora Michaels of New Jersey.
Local arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

OXFORD -- Georgia Anna Wilkerson, 91, of 130 Webb Place died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at her residence.

OXFORD -- Daisy Ruth Booth, 91, of Bradford, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Local arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Patricia Clark

BULLOCK -- Patricia “Pat” Clark, 52, of 9044 Robert Morgan Road died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Triangle Hospice in Hillsborough.
She was a native of Morristown, N.J., and a member of New Jonathan Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Jonathan Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Page. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, John Clark; two sons, Robert Ritzie of Texas and Tyrone Ritzie of Henderson; a father, William Ritzie of Morristown; two sisters, Porsche Ritzie of Morristown and Rita Ritzie of Bullock; four brothers, Tony Ritzie of Henderson, Ronnie Ritzie of Morristown, Kevin Ritzie of Oxford and Corky Ritzie of Louisiana; and one grandchild.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Ellis Cozart Sr.

OXFORD -- Ellis Cozart Sr., 72, of 4525 Fairport Road died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.

Charles B. Evans

HENDERSON -- Charles B. Evans, 61, of 72 Kings Road died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
He was the owner of Evans Body Shop.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are a wife, Marie Hester Evans; two daughters, Tamiko E. Williams of Henderson and Vallerie E. Tharrington of Durham; one son, Garrett Davis of Fayetteville; two adopted daughters, Deloris Hester and Clarissa McBurrough, both of Henderson; one adopted son, Jamie Hester of Henderson; four sisters, Nannie Bullock of Raleigh, Carrie Rouse of Kittrell, and Virgie Foster and Martha Bullock, both of Louisburg; four brothers, Norman Evans of Lanham, Md., Frank Evans Jr. of Newport News, Va., Clyde Evans of Henderson and Samuel Evans of Louisburg; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The body will be viewed during funeral services at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

John V. Gilmour III

HENDERSON -- John Vincent “Jay” Gilmour III, 56, of 204 Beechwood Drive died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at his home. He moved to Henderson in 1989 as corporate controller at Harriet & Henderson Yarns Inc.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joy Wilkins Gilmour; three daughters, Jocelyn Marie Gilmour of Charlotte, Jessica Banks Gilmour of Arlington, Va., and Juliette Frances Gilmour of Charlotte; and three brothers, Peter Scott Gilmour of Phoenix, Mark Raymond Gilmour of Charlotte and Thomas Christopher Gilmour of New York City.
Born in Paterson, N.J., he was the oldest son of John Vincent Gilmour Jr. and Elizabeth White Gilmour, currently of Vero Beach, Fla.
A graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., he earned an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Dartmouth College, then served as a communications officer in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of captain.
After he spent two years with accounting firm Arthur Andersen and Co. in Charlotte, his career as CPA took him into three controller positions: Intech Corp., Charlotte; Vulcraft Division of Nucor Corp., Florence, S.C.; and Harriet & Henderson Yarns, Henderson.
A member of the Henderson Rotary Club, he was a past president and was recently presented a Paul Harris Fellowship. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Innocents and sang in the adult choir.
A participant in Leadership Vance, he served as a volunteer math tutor at Northern Vance High School and Western Vance Secondary School and taught personal computing classes at Vance-Granville Community College. He was active with the Henderson Rec Players.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Holy Innocents by the Rev. Daniel Barker, with entombment in the Memorial Garden Columbarium immediately afterward. Members of the Henderson Rotary Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the following charities: National Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Ave., Suite 203, Evanston, Ill. 60202-1375; Duke Comprehensive Care Center 2020 W. Main St., Suite 201, Durham, N.C. 27705; the Church of the Holy Innocents Music Fund, 210 S. Chestnut St., Henderson, N.C. 27536; or a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are being handled by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Jim W. Hundley

NEWTON, N.C. -- Jim W. Hundley, 57, of 1534 Smyre Farm Road, Newton, N.C., died Monday, November 26, 2001, unexpectedly at his residence.
Born May 11, 1944, in Norlina, N.C., he was the son of the late James Hicks and Mildred Clinton Hundley.
He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and was a retired lieutenant with the N.C. State Highway Patrol. During his career with the N.C. State Highway Patrol he was stationed in High Point, Wilkesboro, Lexington and Newton. After retirement he was employed part-time at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet. He was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 674.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter E. Hundley.
Survivors include: his wife, Gertrude Floyd Hundley of the home; a daughter, Mary Ann Hundley of Hollywood, Florida; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Travis Hundley and wife Pam of Newton, N.C.; two grandchildren, Logan Hundley and McKenna Hundley; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy Hundley Boswell and husband Bobby of South Hill, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law, Andrew J. Hundley and wife Gail of Norlina, N.C.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2001, at Woodlawn Baptist Church. The casket will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The Reverend Doctor Ed Yount will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2001, at the Hundley-Rose Family cemetery in Norlina, N.C.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 440 7th Street Place SW, Conover, N.C. 28613.

Asa E. Lee

RICHMOND, Va. -- Asa Earl Lee, 49, of Richmond died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at his home. He was formerly of Hollister and the son of Tempie A. Lee and the late Eugene Lee.
He was a member and assistant pastor of Old Pathway Gospel Church in Richmond.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Gideon Baptist Church in Hollister.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Ann Lee; two children, infant son Joshua Dale Lee and daughter Tonya L. Payne, both of Richmond; four brothers, Linard “Chief” Lee of Henderson, Gideon Lee, the Rev. John Lee and David Lee, all of Hollister; four sisters, Roxie L. Richardson of Richmond, Retha L. Chichester of Rocky Mount, and Irene L. Silver and Joyce Lee, both of Hollister; and two grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to St. Gideon Baptist Church, c/o the Joshua Dale Lee Trust Fund, P.O. Box 355, Hollister, N.C. 27844.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bliley Funeral Home in Richmond.
The family will receive friends at the home of Gideon Lee, 1810 Ita Road in Hollister.

Warren G. Oldham

HENDERSON -- The Rev. Warren George “Dub” Oldham, 79, of 961 Carey Chapel Road died Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Chatham County and was the son of the late John Wesley and Pearl Phillips Oldham. He was the widower of Bertha Strum Oldham and was a member of the Gospel Baptist Church, where he was a former pastor.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert Greene Jr., the Rev. Thomas Denny and Dr. Gene Wood. Burial will follow in the Gillburg United Methodist Church cemetery.
He is survived by three daughters, Gloria Jean O. Adcock of Henderson, Joyce O. Fleming of Knightdale, and Kathy O. Matthews of Raleigh; two sisters, Viola Cox of Greensboro and Mollie Jane Dickerson of Durham; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Howard and Gloria Adcock, 961 Carey Chapel Road.
Serving as active pallbearers will be James Alston, the Rev. Sidney Twisdale, Jerry Matthews, Steve Gupton, Ralph Mayes and Pete Fleming.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Daisy R. Booth

OXFORD -- Daisy Ruth Booth, 91, of 303 Derrick Road, Bradford, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She was a native of McKean County, Pa., and the daughter of the late Roy and Katherine Dickinson.
She was a member of Sawyer United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Chapel in Bradford, with burial in McKean Memorial Park in Lafayette, Pa.
Surviving are three daughters, Doris Gettings of New Jersey, Betty Sly of Arizona and Joan Courtois of Oxford; four sisters, Lillian Swanson and Mary Kupper, both of Smethport, and Gladys Booth and Alice Erskin, both of Bradford; and 18 grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Local arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Ellis T. Cozart Sr.

OXFORD -- Ellis T. Cozart Sr., 72, of 4525 Fairport Road died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a member of Belton Creek Baptist Church, where he was in the deacon ministry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Belton Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Anthony E. Cozart. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Peace Cozart; five sons, Thomas J. Cozart Sr. of Oxford, the Rev. Ellis T. Cozart Jr. of Goldsboro, William S. Cozart of Durham, Dr. Tony W. Cozart of Oxford and the Rev. Anthony E. Cozart Sr. of Raleigh; four daughters, Brenda C. Barnes of Durham, Dr. Elva C. Cooper of Charlotte, Angela C. Green of Oxford and Lisa C. Taylor of Henderson; three stepsons, Cloude Harris of Oxford, Donald Harris of Franklinton and Patrick Harris of Jonesboro, Ga.; one stepdaughter, Annette Royster of Oxford; two sisters, Lillian C. Hester of Greensboro and Ethel C. Daniels of Newark, N.J.; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.

HENDERSON -- Ada Hoyle Edwards, 88, of 111 Twelve Oaks Lane died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.

Vell B. Kingberry

DURHAM -- Vell Brown Kingberry, 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Mary M.D. Sellars

HENDERSON -- Mary Meadows Duke Sellars, 87, a lifelong resident of Henderson, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Lakeland, Fla.
She was a native of Henderson, daughter of the late Ransom H. Duke and Rowena Daniel Duke, and was the widow of Charles Patrick Sellars.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a charter member of the Contemporary Book Club.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood cemetery by the Rev. Richard Brand Jr.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Sellars Leonard of Lakeland and Julia Sellars Davis of Louisburg; one son, Charles Patrick Sellars of Winston-Salem; one brother, Ransom H. Duke Jr. of New Orleans; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10 until 10:45 at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 726, Henderson, N.C. 27536, or to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, Fla. 33823.

WARRENTON -- John “Toot” Earl Williams died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fork Chapel Baptist Church in Inez. The Rev. Thurman Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Hargrove Williams; his parents, Rufus and Lula Williams of Warrenton; two stepdaughters, Latonya and Lisa Hargrove, both of Warrenton; four step-grandchildren; five brothers, Melvin and Dennis Williams, both of Warrenton, and Rufus Hunt, Rodney Hunt and Elaska Hunt, all of Warren Plains; and one sister, Cora Hunt of Warren Plains.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.
