CHESTER, Pa. -- James B. “Jimmy” Smith, 68, of Chester, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Sept. 30 in Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

Mr. Smith was an Army veteran. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 29 years.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in Temple Baptist Church. Burial will be in Chester Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Earl L. Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith is survived by a daughter, Michele Chilton of Lansdowne; a sister, Elsie M. Weaver of Fayetteville; and a grandson.

Mrs. Madeline J. McLaurin (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

SANFORD -- Mrs. Madeline Jernigan McLaurin, 78, of 91 Duck Lane died Saturday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Mrs. McLaurin was a member of Hilmon Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville by the Revs. Chris Wroten and Joe Waterson. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mrs. McLaurin is survived by two daughters, Joe Ann Pelchat of Fayetteville and Jeanette Mahoney of Palm Coast, Fla.; a sister, Maude Tew of Stedman; a brother, Earl Jernigan of Stedman; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of N.C., Southeast Area, 2583 Ravenhill, Suite 202, P.O. Box 40236, Fayetteville, N.C. 28309-0236.

Douglas R. Sams (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

HOPE MILLS -- Douglas Ray Sams, 65, of 3274-D Sommer Drive died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Jesus First Church by the Rev. Gary Leviner. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.

Mr. Sams is survived by his wife, Marcella Sams; two sons, Joel Sams of Winter Gardens, Fla., and Timothy Sams of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Cynthia Sams of Orlando; two stepsons, James D. Shamblin and Mark Shamblin, both of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; a sister, Patricia Allard of Sunset Beach, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Ramona Shamblin of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Teresa L. Harmon of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Reeves Funeral Home.

Mrs. Edith B. Foster (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

SANFORD -- Mrs. Edith Pansey Bailey Foster, 81, of 3206 Kendale Drive died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Jonesboro Cemetery by the Rev. Jim Sponenberg. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Mrs. Foster is survived by two sons, Jacob Rhines of Fayetteville and Ronald Rhines of Rochester, N.Y.; a daughter, Sandra Seeber of Perry, N.Y.; two brothers, Junior Bailey of Silver Springs, Pa., and Carl Bailey of Emporium, Pa.; five sisters, Daisy Haring and Vivian Carpenter, both of Olean, N.Y., Bette Housler of Muncy, Pa., and Violet Minard and Lois Rader, both of Emporium; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Master Sgt. Samuel Foster (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

Army Master Sgt. Samuel Booth Foster, 39, of 105 Peachtree St. died Saturday in Arizona.

Master Sgt. Foster was a student at Campbell University in Buies Creek.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in JFK Memorial Chapel on Fort Bragg by Chaplain David Waters. Burial with military honors will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Master Sgt. Foster is survived by his wife, Liana Foster of Fayetteville; a son, Ian Foster of Fayetteville; a daughter, Samantha Foster of Fayetteville; his parents, Roland and Ann Foster of Melbourne, Fla.; and two brothers, Ben Foster of Tampa, Fla., and William Foster of Wilmington, Del.

Mrs. Julia Sanders (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

Mrs. Julia Sanders of Fayetteville died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in LaFayette Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sanders is survived by a son, Bill Sanders; and two sisters, Anavelle Thurston of Wilson and Irene Griffin of Goldsboro.

Mrs. Beulah S. Johnson (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

Mrs. Beulah Pearl S. Johnson, 73, of 4612 Camden Road, Fayetteville, died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First United Pentecostal Church by the Rev. Jessie F. Williams. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by four sons, David P. Johnson Jr., Philip W. Johnson, Donald C. Johnson and Terry R. Johnson, all of Fayetteville; four daughters, Linda Pittman, Margaret Stephens, Lois Britt and Doris Jacobson, all of Fayetteville; a brother, Luke Strickland of Falcon; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

John Patterson Jr. (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

LAURINBURG -- John Patterson Jr., 67, of 644 Carl Drive died Monday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends at the home of Margaret Pipkin, 902 W. Saunders St., Maxton.

Mrs. Ina L. Fipps (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

CLARENDON -- Mrs. Ina Lavonia Fipps, 76, of Clarendon, formerly of Columbus County, died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Inman Funeral Home chapel in Tabor City by the Rev. Kenneth Smith. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City.

Mrs. Fipps is survived by her husband, Gleon Fipps of the home; a daughter, Carolyn F. Thompson of Whiteville; four sons, Kellum Fipps and Lowery “Johnnie” Fipps, both of Fayetteville, Sheldrick Fipps of Clarendon, and Anthony Fipps of Whiteville; a sister, Velma Walker of Columbia, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Rashawn A. Lee (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

CLARKTON -- Rashawn Alexander Lee, 2-year-old son of Dennice N. Lee, of 108 W. Railroad St. died Friday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in Jerusalem Baptist Church in Council by elder Michael Scott. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Council. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

In addition to his mother, Rashawn is survived by a brother, Jalil Lee of the home; his grandfather, Horace L. Brown of Jamaica, N.Y.; and his foster parents, Norris and Laura Lee of Clarkton.

BALTIMORE -- Mrs. Margie Ransom Lee of Baltimore died Sunday.

EAGLE SPRINGS -- James Kelly Malone, 18, of 635 Will Road died Saturday.

Mr. Malone was employed by Quik Chek, Inc. of Seagrove.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Pine Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Bill Reynolds. Burial will be in the Morgan family cemetery.

Mr. Malone is survived by his father, Kenneth W. Malone of DeRidder, La.; his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Eddie Valk of the home; a brother, Johnny W. Malone of Fayetteville; a sister, Brandy Leoczko of Sanford; two stepsisters, Jennifer Valk of Carthage and Kimberly Coen of Eagle Springs; his grandparents, Jean Holder of Sanford, Carl Brand of Vardaman, Miss., and Frances Malone of DeRidder, La.; and his step-grandmother, Georgia Valk of Robbins.

DUNN -- Mrs. Annie Geraldine Cameron, 64, of 706 E. Divine St. died Saturday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Stephens Disciples of Christ Church by elder Alex Cox. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Cameron is survived by a son, Anthony J. McLean of Dunn.

Johnie F. Ellis (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Johnie Franklin Ellis, 61, of 402 Stagecoach Drive, formerly of Clinton, N.C., died Sunday.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Middleton Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by McDougal Funeral Home.

Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife, Gloria C. Ellis of the home; a daughter, Kathy Bass of Clinton; three sons, Johnie R. Daughtry of Clinton, Rodney F. Ellis and Jeffery L. Ellid, both of Anderson; three sisters, Doris E. Tyndall and Edna E. Jordan, both of Clinton, and Mavis E. Tyndall of Roseboro; two brothers, William R. Ellis and Tommy J. Ellis, both of Clinton; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. McLamb is survived by two daughters, Shelby J. Naylor of Clinton and Joey Curtis of Brentwood, Md.; three sons, Billy R. McLamb of Roanoke Rapids, Sammy McLamb of Four Oaks and Kenneth McLamb of Newton Grove; a brother, Jasper C. Parrish of Roanoke Rapids; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gowens was a homemaker.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Bryant Swamp Baptist Church by Dr. T. Everette. Burial will be in Butters Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Maultsby and Sons Funeral Home.

Ms. Sheila P. Mendoza (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998)

DUNN -- Ms. Sheila Page Mendoza, 32, of Route 7 died Sunday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Skinner Funeral Home chapel. A private burial will be held.

Ms. Mendoza is survived by four sons, Jonathan Norris, Christopher Page, Jerry Elliott and Justin Elliott, all of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Page and Ashley Page, both of the home; her mother, Carolyn S. Page of the home; her father, Boyd R. Page of Erwin; a brother, Shane Page of Dunn; her paternal grandfather, Alvis Page of Fayetteville; and a grandchild.
