HENDERSON -- James Koonce, 80, a Vance County native, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Oxford Manor following an extended illness.
Arrangements will be announced later by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Hilda A. Sparks

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Hilda Alford Sparks, 77, died Nov. 12, 2000. She was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Henderson.
She is survived by Arthur Lee Sparks or Durham, Joseph Sparks Sr. of Kennewick, Wash., Deborah Sparks Lee of Durham, Dennis Franklin Sparks of West Richland, Wash., and Jerry Allen Sparks of Detroit, Mi; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was a child care provider in Durham and later in Kennewick.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mueller’s Chapel of the Falls in Kennewick, Wash. Viewing will be held from noon today until the time of the service. A grave side service will follow at Riverview Heights cemetery.

Sallie B. Burchette

MANSON -- Sallie Bullock Burchette, 74, of Manson, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Burchette Chapel United Church of Christ in Manson. The Rev. Charlie Leath, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Orange Austin Burchette of the home; three daughters, Maggie M. Burchette of Richmond, Va., Rosa M. Hargrove of Henderson and Patricia A. Burchette of the home; three sons, Henry L. Bullock of Richmond, Va., Joel Burchette of Henderson and Alvin L. Burchette of the home; two sisters, Anna Reed and Eller Bullock, both of Henderson; two brothers, John and Thomas Bullock, both of Manson; 22 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Teresa D. Ellington

HENDERSON -- Teresa Darylene Ellington, 43, of 113 Main St., Henderson, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Arrangements will be announced later by Flowers Funeral Home.

Lucinda Ester

CREEDMOOR -- Lucinda Ester, of 1743 U.S. Hwy. 15 South, Creedmoor, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at the Durham Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are by Betts and Son Funeral Home.

Mary H. Harris

MARIETTA, GA. -- Mary H. Harris, 100, formerly of Henderson, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, in Marietta, Ga. She was a native of Berea, Ky.
She moved to the Marietta area from Henderson in 1994. She was a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church here in Henderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Dr. Marion D. Lark. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Tom Harris of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Brenda Kittrell

HENDERSON -- Brenda Lucilla Frazier Kittrell, 48, of 741 Jefferson St., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at her residence. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Charles Frazier and Louise Christmas Frazier Evans.
She was an employee of Guardian Care Nursing Home as a license practice nurse.
She was a member of Spring Street Missionary Baptist Church where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday. The Revs. Robert M. Burnett, Chad Armstrong, Cora Boyd and Jimmie Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Angelia Kittrell of the home and Altovise Kittrell of Henderson; three brothers, Charles Carl Frazier of Charlotte, Andre’ Evans of Winston-Salem and Andrew Evans of Henderson; one stepsister, Gloria Carver of Greensboro; and four stepbrothers, Leroy Daye of Durham, James Evans of Maryland, Lewis Evans Jr. of Linden, N.J., and Harvey Wilson of Maryland.
The family will receive friends at the residence. The body will be on view until taken to the church one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Wendell H. Wilson

WARRENTON -- Wendell H. Wilson, 81, of the Perrytown community in Warrenton, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Helen G. Alston

WARRENTON -- Helen G. Alston, 91, of Warrenton, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Teresa D. Ellington

HENDERSON -- Teresa Darylene “Terry” Ellington, 43, of 113 Main Street, Henderson, died November 15, 2000 in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
A native of Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Benjamin and Ruth Hughes Ellington.
Miss Ellington was an employee of Southern Quilters, Inc.
Funeral services will be held Saturday evening, at 8 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
Surviving are a sister, Cindy C. Ausborn, and husband, Johnnie, of Henderson; two step-sisters; two step-brothers; a nephew, Brent Burgess, of Henderson; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends Saturday, from 7 to 8 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Johnnie and Cindy Ausborn, 915 Nelson Street, Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1740 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10019.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Jerry W. Jackson

CREEDMOOR -- Jerry Wayne Jackson, 28, of 1562-B Jack Clement Road, Stem, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Duke Medical Center. He was a Wake County native and the son of the late Johnnie and Maxine Collier Jackson.
He was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Tommy Robertson. Burial will be in Creedmoor cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Angela Clark Jackson; a daughter, Tabatha Jackson; his adopted mother, Peggy Jackson; two sisters, Donna Jackson of Butner and Lisa Jackson Rambeaut of Creedmoor; and three brothers, Jimmy Jackson of Angier, Joe Jackson of Garner and James Jackson of Bunn.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home of Peggy Jackson, 3837 Old Weaver Trail, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Creedmoor.

Brenda Frazier Kittrell

James Koonce

HENDERSON -- James Koonce, 80, of Henderson, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Oxford Manor. He was a native of Trenton and the son of Elizabeth Koonce and George Whittfield.
In 1941, he joined the U.S. Army, served until 1945 and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. He worked as a brick mason until retiring in 1996.
Surviving are one son, Jeff Williams of Henderson; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service Chapel. Interment with military rites will follow in the Rowland Chapel UCC cemetery.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
The body will be at E.C. Terry's Funeral Service.
Arrangements are by E.C. Terry's Funeral Service of Henderson.

Arvell Shearin

HENDERSON -- Arvell Shearin, 61, of 946 Jacksontown Road, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at his residence. Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service of Henderson.

Wendell H. Wilson

WARRENTON -- Wendell H. Wilson, 81, of the Perrytown community, Warrenton, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Baptist Church. The Rev. Eddie W. Lawrence, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Berteen Wilson of the home; four daughters, Barbara Ann Henderson of Detroit, Mich., Angie Brooks Wilson of Henderson, Gwendolyn Kay Spruill of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Jacquelyn Fay Wilson of Henderson; three sons, Robert Russell Wilson of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Oliver Wendell Wilson of Warrenton and Henry Wallace Wilson of Somerville, N.J.; 21 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two sisters, Letitia Wilson of Warrenton and Clementine P. Price of Philadelphia, Pa.; and three brothers, James J. Wilson, Bobbie H. Wilson and Willie G. Wilson, all of Warrenton.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel until taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Lula E. Lovett Woodson

WARREN COUNTY -- Lula Evans Lovett Woodson, formerly of Warren County, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in San Diego, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burchette Chapel United Church of Christ in Manson. The Rev. Charlie Leath, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Richard O. Woodson of San Diego, Calif.; one son, Samuel Evans of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a stepson, Junnie, of Maryland; her mother, Polly Evans of Manson; five sisters, Eva Banks of Macon, Pattie Bullock and Queen E. Williams, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mattie Bagley of Bronx, N.Y., and Bernice Hicks of Manson; and three brothers, Major Evans Jr. and Horace Evans Jr., both of Henderson, and Charles Evans of Richmond, Va.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Lessie M. Crews

LOUISBURG -- Funeral services for Lessie M. Crews, 89, who died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Mitchell Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Lilly Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Bailey of Raleigh; and three grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg.
Arrangements are by Richardson Funeral Home of Louisburg.

Odell Cottrell Richards

LOUISBURG -- Odell Cottrell Richards, 80, of Louisburg, died Thursday, November 16, 2000 in Duke Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by Lonnie Steward Cottrell and Wallace H. Richards.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18, 2000, at 2 p.m. from the Corinth Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Mike Blevins assisted by the Rev. Judy Pittman and Patrick Fuller.
Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery.
Surviving are daughters Sandra Cottrell Greenland and husband, Greg, Coral Springs, Fla., and Diane Cottrell Dickerson and husband, James, of Louisburg, Candice Anne Cottrell of Wake Forest; sons Jerry S. Cottrell and wife Mary of Henderson, K. Keith Cottrell and wife Nancy of Henderson; sisters Theo J. Shillinger of Louisburg, Daphine J. Castelluzzo, Geneva, N.Y., Lola J. Clifford, Richmond, Va.; brother Nelson W. Jeans of Rocky Mount; grandchildren Wes Simmons, Scott Simmons, Michael Greenland, Allison D. Harris, Jim Dickerson, Katie Cottrell, Courtney Cottrell, Whitney Cottrell, Claire Young, and Chip Young; and great-grandchildren Hailey Harris, Cole Dickerson, and Lane Dickerson.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers, and the Dorcus Ladies’ Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family received friends Friday, November 17, 2000, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral Home, 804 N. Bickett Boulevard, Louisburg, N.C.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Corinth Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund, 4582 U.S. 401 Hwy N., Louisburg, N.C., 27549.

Surviving are one son, James C. “Boochie” Alston Sr., of Warrenton; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Deloris Glenn of Raleigh.
The body will be on view on Monday at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel until taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Johnnie L. Bailey

OXFORD -- Johnnie Lee Bailey, 49, of 1010 Raleigh St., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Granville Medical Center.
The Rev. Richard E. Jackson will conduct the funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Greenville Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Bernetta C. Bailey of Henderson; one daughter, Rotonda Chanel Cotton of Raleigh; three sons, Johnnie Lee Bailey Jr., Kenneth Shante Cotton and Jonathan Blevins, all of Oxford; his father, Willie Bailey of Creedmoor; three sisters, Shirley Myers of Yonkers, N.Y., Lucille Bailey of Creedmoor and Janet Pettiford of Butner; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home and at other times at 19 Red Maple Lane in Vance County.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Anne Pool Cox

Henderson -- Anne Pool Cox, age 74 a resident of 2951 Oxford Road, died Saturday in Maria Parham Hospital.
She was a native of Wake County and was the daughter of the late Roy and Nell Pool.
She was the widow of the late Ralph Eugene Cox. She was retired from the Vance County Schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a former youth Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class, and was active in the ACTS Program.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church by Dr. Marion D. Lark. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are: one daughter Cynthia C. Triplett of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; one sister Mary P. Brown of Raleigh; one brother Dr. Roy R. Pool of Starkville, Miss.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Boyd Eugene Cox.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church Music Ministry, 205 W. Winder St., Henderson, NC 27536.
