Adam Miller

Mass of Christian Burial for Adam Miller, 75, Dickinson, is Thursday, March 13, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Austin Vetter, celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. led by Jerry & Agnes Kelly. Visitation continuing Thursday until one hour prior to service.

Adam passed away Monday, March 10, 2003, at St. Joseph Health Care in Dickinson.

Adam was born on April 26, 1927 to John A. and Monica (Fichter) Miller on the family farm near Gladstone. He grew up and attended country schools near there. Adam began farming with his brother Val and together with the aid of their sister Elvira they farmed until 1991 when they retired. They moved to Dickinson where they have made their home since. Adam enjoyed doing word puzzles and listening to music. He was a quiet, gentle person who always took care of his family. Adam was a very active member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Dickinson.

Survivors include, four sisters, Tillie Rettig, Kathy (Clarence) Hanel, Elvira (Patty) Miller all of Dickinson and Lorane (Lori) Raab, Phoenix, AZ; two sister-in-laws, Sharon and Mary Miller, a brother-in-law, Ben Wolbaum all of Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Christ, Mike and Valentine; a sister, Margaret Wolbaum; a brother-in-law, Ambrose Rettig and a sister-in-law, Cecilia Miller.

Paraska Belinski

Devine Liturgy of Christian Burial for Paraska Belinski, 104, of Billings, MT, is Friday, March 14, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Belfield, ND with Fr. Taras Miles and Fr. Michael Belinsky, C.S.C., concelebrating. Interment will follow at St. John’s Ukrainian Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, March 13, 2003, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel continuing at St. John’s Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Parastas at 7:00 p.m. led by Fr. Taras Miles.

Paraska (Haverlock) Belinski died on Monday, March 3, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Retirement Home, Billings, MT where, she had been a resident since April 17, 1979.

Paraska was born to Joseph and Alice (Pawluk) Haverlock on August 5, 1898, in Galacia, Austria. She immigrated with her parents to the United States around 1900, settling in the Zenith-Belfield, ND area. Paraska married Nick Belinski on November 4, 1914, in Ukraina, ND in St. Demetrius Catholic Church. To this union were born three daughters and two sons. After their marriage, they homesteaded in the Badlands northwest of Belfield, moving briefly to the farming community of Belfield; thereafter moving to Little Falls, MN in 1937. In early 1940, the family moved to the Savage-Sidney, MT area, where they resided until their retirement in September 1960.

Paraska is survived by two sons, Sam Belinski, Austin, MN, Wm. (Lori) Belinski, Billings, MT; two daughters, Marie Basaraba, Columbia Falls, MT, Marcella (Victor) Paluch, Los Angeles, CA; 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 28 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Katherine Haverlock, Los Angeles, CA, Genevieve Neesley, Corona, CA and one brother, Andrew Haverlock, Dickinson, ND.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nick, one daughter, Pauline Tabatt, one grandson, Gregg Paluch, four brothers, Mike, John, Jim and Sam, two sisters, Anna Orbanosky, Mary Taraba, one daughter-in-law and two sons-in-law.

Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Home Chapel Fund, Billings, MT.

Melvin Wolenetz

Melvin Lyle Wolenetz, 69, of Baker passed away on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Deaconess Medical Center in Billings following a short illness.

He was born on July 2, 1933 the son of Floyd and Sadie (Johnson) Wolenetz in Baker. He grew up and attended country school which was taught by his grandmother through the eighth grade. Melvin completed his schooling in Baker graduating from high school in 1951. He returned to the ranch where he worked with his father. Melvin was married to Janice Karch in Baker on June 3, 1960. Together they purchased his grandmother’s farm which they have added on over the years. Melvin was very active on the farm with the aid of his sons now joining him in the operation. He enjoyed hunting, attending auction sales and especially stopping by a restaurant for a cup of coffee to chat with a friend. Melvin enjoyed driving the semi and pulling the pup whether bringing in grain from the field or going to town with it. His special love was always shared with his wife, Janice, his boys and the grandchildren.

Melvin actively attended the First Baptist Church of Baker.

Survivors include, his wife, Janice, Baker; three sons, Kenneth (Shelli), Fergus Falls, MN, Randy (Rebecca) and Jeff both of Baker; a brother, Byron (Galina), Baker; seven grandchildren, Steven, Riley, Kaylee, Charli, Alissa, Jonathon and Cameron.

His parents, a son, Douglas and a sister-in-law, Darlene preceded him in death.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm continuing on Tuesday, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm at the Stevenson Funeral Home and on Wednesday one hour prior to service time at the First Baptist Church.

Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker is in charge of the arrangements.

Sister Gemma Hartinger

Sister Hartinger passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2003 at the St. Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck.

Sister Gemma was born on January 3, 1917 and baptized as Frances Mary, was the sixth child of seven born to George and Mary (VanAckeren) Hartinger in Glen Ullin. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Glen Ullin Public High School. In 1939, after a year at St. Benedict’s College in St. Joseph, Minnesota, she entered Sacred Heart Monastery, then located at Garrison, and made her first monastic profession in 1941.

After earning her teaching credentials through Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota, she began her long and devoted service as an elementary school teacher. She taught at St. Leo’s and Little Flower Schools in Minot, St. Nicholas School in Garrison, St. Mary’s School in Malta, MT and St. Vincent’s School in Mott. From 1967 to 1975 she was assigned to St. Benedict’s Academy in Bogota, Colombia, which was then a mission of Sacred Heart Monastery. In addition to her teaching, Sr. Gemma served on various committees and from 1964 to 1967 was subprioess of the Monastery. In 1991 she retired to the monastery where she compiled community photo albums and used her calligraphy and artistic skills for creating posters, signs, and greeting cards. She credited her brothers with giving her a lifelong interest in sports, and she enjoyed cheering her favorite teams from the television room. However, her greatest satisfaction and pride came in remembering students and stories from her nearly 50 years of teaching.

Sr. Gemma is survived by her brother Joe Hartinger of Glen Ullin, her sister, Catherine Folliard of Sonoma, CA, numerous nephews and nieces, as well as the Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery.

Her parents, who both died before she was 14 years old, her brothers, Ted, Frank, Lawrence, and sister Anna, preceded her in death.

Donna G. Dingfelder

Donna Grace Dingfelder, 44, of Ekalaka passed away suddenly on Monday, March 24, 2003 doing what she loved the most, having coffee with friends and family. She was born on May 9th, 1958 the daughter of Clarence and Jean (O’Connor) Dingfelder in Bowman, North Dakota. She grew up and attended school in Bowman. Donna returned to the family ranch where she worked and had a special love for the animals, especially raising her bum lambs. She also had a real green thumb when it came to her gardening, mainly her tomatoes. In 2000, Donna moved to Ekalaka. She enjoyed stopping by the restaurant for a cup of coffee and to visit with friends. Donna liked taking care of different ones in town, cleaning houses and yards. In her spare time she liked listening to music on the radio, playing bingo and doing puzzle books. Donna was very active with the American Legion and VFW. Her special love was always shared with her nieces & nephews, whom she treated like her own. “Beartoven”, her dog was her special friend and companion.
Donna is survived by her mother, Jean (Joseph) Padden of Camp Crook, SD; grandfather, Neil O’Connor of Ekalaka; six brothers: Bill Dingfelder of Camp Crook, Mike Pacetti & Ron (Nancy) Dingfelder both of Buffalo, SD; Neil Dingfelder of Sidney, MT, Fred Dingfelder of Huntington, CA, and George (Stephanie) Dingfelder of Manassa, CO; four sisters: Vivian (Tim) Pendergrass of Bowman, ND; Diane Douglas of Camp Crook; Irene (C.J.) Jacobs and Karen (Craig) Cheguis, both of Miles City; a brother-in-law, Keith Douglas; her special friends Jim Tom Padden & JoAnne Sterns; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts & uncles. Her father, Clarence Dingfelder and grandparents preceded her in death. At the request of Donna’s family, memorial contributions may be made to the Dahl Memorial Whirlpool Fund or the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 28, 2003 at 1PM at the Ekalaka Bible Church with Pastor Wallace Fox officiating. Graveside services will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Camp Crook at 3PM followed by a reception at the Camp Crook Methodist Church. Visitation will begin on Thursday, March 27, 2003 from 2PM-7PM at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka continuing on Friday, 9AM to 11AM. Stevenson Funeral Homes, Inc. of Baker & Ekalaka is in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph L. Hild

Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph L. Hild, 81, formerly of Medora is Wednesday, July 9, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at the Medora Community Center with Father Shannon Lucht, celebrating. Interment will follow at Medora Cemetery in Medora.

Visitation is Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel followed by a Rosary and Vigil at 7:00 p.m. led by Deacon Al Hibl.

Joe passed away on July 5, 2003 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson.

He was born in Steele, ND on January 29, 1922, the son of Joe W. and Lena Hild. He joined one sister and one brother. Joe received both his elementary and high school education at the Steele Public School, graduating in 1940. Until 1944 he helped his father on the farm. In December of 1944 Joe moved to Sentinel Butte, ND to get started in the ranching business. He worked for Art Brown, Emil Kunick and Ray Kukowski, owners of the N.O.L. From 1945 until 1949 he worked for Al Wosepka, then for Les Connell. On May 3, 1949, Joe started working for Ed Harding on the Maltese Cross Ranch. He met Elizabeth (Betty) Herauf at a Schnell Rodeo in Dickinson and they were married a year later on September 8, 1956. They bought the Maltese Cross Ranch, which once belonged to Theodore Roosevelt from Mr. and Mrs. Ed Harding in 1960. Joe’s favorite pastime was sharing his knowledge of Theodore Roosevelt.

As curious tourist would drive to see the first ranch Theodore Roosevelt lived on, Joe greeted them as they drove into the yard. Twenty-six states, England and Canada are represented in the ranch guest book. The wealth of information and books about Theodore Roosevelt is on display at the Roosevelt Masonic Lodge in Belfield. In 1982, Joe and Betty moved to Belfield. Betty passed away August 25, 1991. Joe is survived by his daughter Betty Jo (Larry) Ridl, Belfield, two sons, John (Becky) Hild, Medora, and Robert Hild, Oklahoma City, OK; a sister, Alice DeWitz, Steele, ND; two grandchildren, Jamison S. and Adam Joseph (A.J.); and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, wife and a brother preceded him in death.

Monica M. Reichert

Funeral Mass for Monica Reichert, 86, Bismarck, is Thursday, April 3, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Parish with Father David Morman, celebrating. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday 2, 2003, at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel with a vigil at 7:00p.m.

Monica passed away Monday, March 31, 2003, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.

She was born to Charles and Jane McLauglin in Worthington, MN on October 14, 1916.

She attended Cathedral Grade School and High School in Sioux Falls, SD graduating in 1934. She majored in Social Sciences at St. Mary of the Woods in Terra Hante, IN and George Washington, D.C.

Monica joined the Red Cross during WWII and served in Japan after the war. She later worked for American Airlines.

In 1951, she met her husband, Donald J. Reichert, MD, while they were both vacationing in Acapulco, Mexico. They were married July 5, 1952 in St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Sioux Falls, SD. They honeymooned at Rutgers Bay Lodge in Minnesota.

Monica was a member of the Medical Auxiliary, The Monday Club, and ND Democratic NPL Party. She served as a Regent of the Catholic Daughters of Court St. Catherine, No. 323, 1966-68. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, movies and politics.

She is survived by her four sons and two daughters-in-law: James, Minnetonka, MN, John and Julie Carrollton, TX, Mark and Alvina, Bismarck, ND and Paul, Dallas, TX; three grandchildren: Meghan, Geoffrey, and Thomas, Bismarck, ND; step-grandson: A.J. Davis, Carrollton, TX; and two sisters: Marcella Fanning, Martin, SD and Joan Dawson, Wilmington, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Reichert, two sisters: Charlotte and Marian McLaughlin and two brothers: Victor and Virgil McLaughlin.

The family prefers memorials to the Donald J. Reichert Memorial fund c/o UND Medical School, Grand Forks, ND.
