Walter Shypkowski

Walter Shypkowski, 82, of Fargo, passed away on July 11, 2011 surrounded by family at the Sanford Medical Center’s Palliative Care Unit, Fargo.

Walter was born March 25, 1929 to John B. and Mary (Evoniuk) Shypkowski of Belfield.

He was raised in Belfield where he also attended school. During World War II, Walter served in the U.S. Army Air Corp.

On Nov. 6, 1951, Walter was united in marriage to Tillie Ann Jablonsky at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in South Heart.

A self taught accordion player, Walt formed several bands and shared his love of music for over 60 years. Music was his life as it was evident in the joy it brought him and the people he entertained. Walter enjoyed playing old-time music, watching ball games and house remodeling projects. The family has many fond memories of his kindness, his quick sense of humor and funny stories.

After many years of service, Walt retired from the Fargo Housing Authority in March of ‘93.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Tillie and their seven children; Gene (Mary Jo) Shypkowski, Rancho Palos Verde, Calif., Darla (Randy) Yarbrough, Bemidji, Minn., Charlene (Steve) Reinpold, Hillsboro, Randy Shypkowski, Fargo, Rae Lynn Belmer, Phoenix, Joleen (Jim) Narum, Ada, Minn., and Rick Shypkowski, Fargo, and his two brothers; Donald (Ann) Shypkowski, Dickinson, and John (Sharon) Shypkowski, Des Moines, Iowa.

He will be missed by all, especially his 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margie Reisenauer and granddaughter Kelly Shypkowski.

There will be a prayer service on Thursday at 7 p.m. with visitation starting at 5 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, 123 10th St. S., Fargo.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 2 p.m. with visitation starting at 1 p.m. in Holy Cross Catholic Church, West Fargo. All are welcome to attend a luncheon served in the church following the Mass.

Burial will be at Holy Cross North Cemetery, Fargo following the lunch.

Anna Weiand

Funeral Mass for Anna Weiand, 97, Glen Ullin, is 10 a.m. CDT Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Rev. Arul Joseph celebrating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Glen Ullin.

Visitation for Anna is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. CDT Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p.m.

Anna passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Marian Manor in Glen Ullin.

Anna Martin was born Nov. 12, 1913 in the Blue Grass area to George and Mary (Kaip) Martin Sr. She grew up on the family farm, working there through and after school.

On April 27, 1934, Anna married Edmond Weiand at St. Benedict. The couple farmed for several years before moving to Glen Ullin, where she had made her home ever since. Along with raising her family, Anna helped Ed run their two bars in town.

Anna enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, crossword puzzles and playing pinchole. She liked to drive around Glen Ullin and the surrounding area and was known to many as the “Cookie Lady.” Anna loved listening to music as well as singing to her children.

Anna is survived by the two sons, Gary (Joan) Weiand of Glen Ullin and Allan (Mary Ann) Weiand of Wahpeton; two daughters, Adeline (Ray) Diede of Glen Ullin and Cora Weiand of Fort Thompson, S.D.; one son-in-law, Steve Donoghue of Holyke, Mass.; one sister, Louise Schultz of Billings, Mont.; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Martin Sr.; her husband, Edmund Weiand; one daughter, Janice Donaghue; two brothers, Frank and George Martin and two sisters Helen Weiand and Mary Kastner; one granddaughter Kathy Donoghue.

Jacob Barth

Jacob Barth, 19, Dickinson, died with his white lab Rudy on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident near Lusk, Wyo.

There will be a memorial service for Jacob at 2 p.m. Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. Jim Preston officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday.

Jacob Alexander Barth was born Oct. 2, 1991 in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Troy Hodson and Angela Corbett. Following his mothers marriage to Jim Barth, Jacob was adopted by Jim. The Barth family lived in Colorado prior to moving to Elgin, and eventually to Dickinson in 2006, where Jacob completed his education at Dickinson High School.

He went to work in the oil fields but his goal was to work on the police force. To gain experience Jacob traveled to Greely, Colo., to check out a position with the Colorado State Correctional Facility.

Jacob enjoyed playing the guitar, loved animals, playing video games and just hanging out with his friends.

Jacob will be dearly missed by those who survive him, which include his parents, Jim and Angela; his grandparents, Rosalie Barth, Dickinson, John Betz, Evans, Colo., Ken Corbett, Green Valley, Ariz., and Carol Hodson, San Luis Obispo; his aunts and uncles, Hollie (Bryan) Wilson, Denver, Colo., Donna (Steve) Hintz, Mandan, and Dennis (Sheila) Barth, Kennewick, Wash.; and several cousins.

Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Luann Selle

Funeral service for Luann Selle, 89, of Halliday, is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Halliday, with Rev. Joel Sauerwein officiating. Burial is in the Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Halliday.

Visitation for Luann is 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, with a prayer service taking place at 7 p.m.

Luann passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at her home in Halliday, surrounded by loving family members.

Luann Wasem was born May 4, 1922 in Halliday to Maurice and Hilma (Gaebe) Wasem. She grew up and attended school and played basketball in Halliday, graduating from Halliday High School in 1940. She attended one year of college at Dickinson State College in Dickinson.

Luann then moved to Chicago where she resided with her aunt and uncle while she was employed in an ammunition factory. She was married to Edward LaPierre. To this union a son, Charles, was born. Luann and Charles moved back to the Halliday area where she purchased a dry cleaning business and operated it for several years. She also worked as a bookkeeper at the Halliday Union Bank. Luann then began working at Selle Implement as a bookkeeper.

A courtship began with Lloyd Selle and they were united in marriage on Feb. 17, 1964. To this union a daughter, Lois, was born. Together they operated Selle Implement until 2008. Their son continues to operate the business today.

Luann loved spending time at the family cabin at Mahto Bay where they fished and enjoyed their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always had an open invitation for anyone to come out to the cabin. Luann was very involved with Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and could be found making quilts for the church. She was also involved with the Halliday Jayceettes, Lions Club and many other city activities.

Luann served on the board that brought the health clinic to Halliday. Even after moving to Dickinson, she kept up on all of the news in Halliday and was always concerned with the welfare of Halliday.

Luann is survived by her son: Charles LaPierre of Halliday; daughter, Lois Selle of Crystal, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Crystal (Shannon) Sickler of Dickinson, Cynthia (James) Chestnut of Dickinson, Clayton (Danté) LaPierre of Halliday, as well as Casey, Sarah, Stephanie and Danielle Charging all of Crystal; three great-grandchildren, Christopher and Emilie Sickler of Dickinson and Tate Lloyd LaPierre of Halliday; one brother, Charles (Agnes) Wasem of Sun City West, Ariz.; two sisters, Dorothy Hess of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Hilma Joyce (Richard) Mann of Lacy, Wash.; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Wasem of Dickinson, Lenora Wasem of Dickinson and Lorraine Wasem of Aberdeen, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Hilma Wasem; husband, Lloyd Selle and three brothers, Leslie, William and Maurice Wasem.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Badlands Ministries or a charity of your choice.

Ella Dubs

Funeral services for Ella Dubs, 95, Mott, are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott. Rev. John Amundson and Rev. Joe Burgess will officiate with burial in Sunnyslope Cemetery in Mott.

A prayer service is 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott.

Serving as casketbearers are Brandi Poehls, Dylan Poehls, Ryan Hintz, Loren Frieze, Nathan Domyahn and Mark Domyahn.

Ella Bertha Kamrath Dubs and her twin sister, Ester Margaretta Kamrath, were born April 22, 1916, to Ferdinand August Kamrath and Dorothea (Eschenbacher) Kamrath at the farm six miles southwest of Mott.

Ella graduated from Mott High School in 1934. She had an interesting and varied career. Her focus was three-fold: farming, church and family.

Ella drove school bus along with her brothers, Herman and Wallie. She farmed with Wallie for a few years and drove grain truck for Jan and Ron Swindler. Ella worked at the Kamrath Sales Pavilion for 25 years with Herman and Irmgard Kamrath. She was always ready to discuss farming. Ella liked to garden and always grew a huge, beautiful garden until moving into the Good Samaritan Society in Mott in 2005.

Ella was a very active member of the Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott. She was the first Parish Secretary at Trinity Lutheran for 15 years and was an organist for both churches for 65 years.

Ella volunteered teaching religious education, Sunday School, Junior Lutherans, Vacation Bible School and Release Time at Christ Lutheran Church and later at Trinity Lutheran Church for 67 years. She was very active in WELCA and other women’s organizations of the church as well as serving in various positions on the district and state levels in American Lutheran Church and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Ella was very involved with the church in making quilts and activities in women groups. She loved music and played piano at the nursing home for many, many years and was awarded as Volunteer of the Year in 1997 at the Good Samaritan Society-Mott for volunteering over 2000 hours. She was very proud to help with the election board for many years.

She stayed at home to care for her parents until their death. Soon after, Ella and Otto Dubs were married on Nov. 14, 1965. Otto died on July 22, 1972. She assisted in caring for her nephews and nieces and their children as well.

She passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society-Mott at the age of 95 years, 2 months, 24 days.

Ella had two stepchildren, Waldemar Dubs (Arline) and Ardina (Dubs) King (Ernest M King).

Ella is survived by one sister-in-law Irene (Walter) Kamrath, Bemidji, Minn., step daughter-in-law, Arline Dubs, Fargo; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Archie (Betty) Roemmich, Paulsboro, N.J.; Roger (Marlayne) Domyahn, Minneapolis; Arlyce (James) Much, Ranier, Ore.; Larry Roemmich, Dickinson; Mildred (Graham) Bolding; Manteca, Calif.; Darlyne (Carl) Gehring, Harker Heights, Texas; Paul (Linda) Kamrath, Florence, Mont,; Helen (John) Miller, Billings, Mont.; Dale (Sandy) Roemmich, Pipestone, Minn.; Meg Nathan, St. Paul, Minn.; Kathy (Daniel) Shea, Cass Lake, Minn., and Ron Swindler, Mott.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, F.A. and Dorethea Kamrath, husband, Otto Dubs, infant twin sister, Ester, brothers, Herman and Walter Kamrath, sisters, Anna Domjahn and Lousie Roemmich, and niece, Janice Swindler, stepdaughter, Ardina (Dubs) King and stepson, Waldemar Dubs.

Visitation is Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home and Monday one hour prior to services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott.
