Rose Nelson

Rose Marie Nelson, 74, Helena, Mont., died June 25, 1996, in Helena. Rose was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Judson to Fred and Barbara Meuchel. On Aug. 17, 1946, she married Engar Nelson, and they settled in Helena.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janis and Greg Winston, Donna and Bill Eckerson and Vicki Nelson, all of Helena; six grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Scow, Helena, and Veronica Schaner, New Salem; one brother, Frank Meuchel, New Port Beach, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Arthur Nelson, Mandan; and one sister-in-law, Agnes Rask, Mandan.

Grace Herhusky

DICKINSON -- Grace Herhusky, 73, Dickinson, died June 30, 1996, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. George Dukart officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dickinson.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 7 tonight, followed by a prayer service at 7:30. The Deacon Joe Kappel will officiate. Grace Ann Carr was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Ivanhoe, Minn., to Lonnie and Emma (Lackey) Carr. Grace graduated from Ivanhoe High School, Oct. 25, 1942. She married Roy Herhusky. They lived in Luverne, Minn., and in 1945, they moved to Dickinson. Grace worked as a secretary at Dickinson State College and Dickinson High School.

She was a member of PEO, Catholic Daughters and American Cancer Society.

She is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Dennis Hawn, Severna Park, Md., Pat and Don Kostelecky, Fergus Falls, Minn., Lonnie and Bob Decker, Hazen, Barb and Vern Nelson, Dickinson, Mary and Arlis Sayler, Burnsville, Minn., and Elizabeth and Kevin Rohling, Grand Rapids, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; four sisters, Nellie Jerzak, Marshall, Minn., Betty Sweeney, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Rose Fehrman, Ivanhoe, and Edith Carr, Janesburg, N.J.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; one sister; five brothers; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society or Hospice.

Marie Berger

Marie Berger, 89, 715 N. Ninth St., died July 1, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas R. Kramer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight.

Marie Tibesar was born March 18, 1907 in Alice, the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth (Decker) Tibesar. The family moved to Bismarck, where she was raised and attended St. Mary's Parochial and High School. She was employed as a beautician before marrying Marcus John Berger, Jan. 11, 1926, in Bismarck. Marie and Marcus continued living in Bismarck and raised their family here. Her husband died in 1967. Marie enjoyed her family and spending time in her garden. She loved music and participating with her husband in the church choir and in civic operettas. Marie also had a love for animals and enjoyed caring for her pets.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Wesley Bohrer, Bismarck; three sons and two daughters-in-law, James Louis Berger, Robert J. and Marilyn Berger, and Richard J. and Jan Berger, all of Bismarck; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Edward Tibesar, Bismarck, and Peter Tibesar, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

Christopher Boehm
Christopher G. Boehm, 72, 1308 Seventh St. N.W., Mandan, died July 28, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Church, Mandan, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Military rites will be by Mandan American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7:30 tonight.

Christopher was born March 15, 1924, in Mandan, the son of George and Wilhelmina (Ehlis) Boehm. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Air Force after graduation and served for 22 years. He married Elsie Glaser, Aug. 1, 1945, in Mandan. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1965 and returned to Mandan that same year. Chris became part owner of Ten Spot Bowling Lanes, and worked as a building supervisor at State Industrial School for 20 years, retiring in 1985.

During his 22 years in the military he flew 20 combat missions in a B-24 as a radio operator and side gunner. He had over 2,000 flying hours in a B-29 where one of the highlights of his career was meeting Charles Lindberg. He was stationed in Shreveport, La., Tucson, Ariz., Rapid City, S.D., and High Wycombe, England. His last station of duty was at Minot Air Force Base.

He was an avid golfer, and was the winner of the first state employee golf tournament. He was known for his smile and great sense of humor. Chris was the master of ceremonies for many functions, always having available appropriate jokes.

He was a member of Mandan Golf Association, where he served two terms as president, Mandan Elks, American Legion, NDEA and Teachers Retirement Association.

Chris is survived by his wife, Elsie; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bruce and Laura, and Eric, all of Mandan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Paul Usselman, Hazen, and Krislyn and Jim Skjod, Mandan; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, George, Eugene, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Vickie Lynn; four brothers, Adam, Joe, Fred and John; and one sister, Margy.

Ruth Everson
WILLISTON -- Ruth Everson, 93, a longtime Williston resident, Williams County pioneer and local businesswoman, died July 27, 1996, in the Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Williston, with the Revs. Dean Larsen and Joel Westby officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

Visitation is ongoing until 7 tonight at Everson Funeral Home, Williston, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Ruth Evelyn Dahl was born March 17, 1903, in Waukon, Iowa, to Jens P. and Julia (Falde) Dahl. While still an infant, she came with her family to Springbrook. They spent a short time there before moving to Williston which was to remain her home through these many succeeding years.

She was confirmed in the First Lutheran Church, and graduated from Williston High School Class of 1921. After graduation, she taught school briefly in a country school near Ray, and later became a secretary for the Nash-Finch Co. in Williston.

On Dec. 31, 1921, she married her neighbor and classmate, Lloyd P. Everson at the First Lutheran Church parsonage in Williston. They lived first in Billings and then Great Falls, Mont., before moving to Minneapolis where Mr. Everson completed his academic work in mortuary science.

In 1931 Mr. Everson joined his father in the Home Furniture and Undertaking Co., and Ruth and Lloyd established their home in Williston. Mr. Everson preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1947.

After his death, she elected to continue the family business until her son, George, returned from the Army of Occupation in Japan and graduated from the college of mortuary science at the University of Minnesota.

Mrs. Everson is survived by her son, George; three grandsons and their spouses, Gregory and Charysse, David and Stephen; one great-granddaughter, Bryn Elise; one sister, Alice Rishoff, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carole Ann Everson, in 1964.

She remained an active member of the community and the church through the years, was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Edgar M. Boyd American Legion Post, served on the Salvation Army Board, and was a member of Order of Eastern Star and Women of the Moose. She enjoyed her special friend in Tops.

Chester Zweigle
MARTIN -- Chester Zweigle, 73, Martin, died July 28, 1996, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Harvey, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Ardyce Snyder, New Rockford, and Margo Spear, Drake; two sons, Daryl, Walker, Iowa, and Myron, Martin; two sisters, Irene Flesher, Denver, and Kathryne Pleasants, Apopka, Fla.; and one brother, Maurice, Lake Leelanau, Mich. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

James Hetzler
James N. Hetzler, 59, 1400 Edgewood Drive, died July 20, 1996, in a boating accident. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Jean Helgaas
JAMESTOWN -- Jean Ann Helgaas, 59, Jamestown, died July 27, 1996, at Ottertail Lake, Minn. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.

She is survived by her husband, Maynard; three daughters, Kathryn Helgaas, Fargo, and Julie Dunwoodie and Ann Sitzmann, both of Jamestown; one son, John, Jamestown; her parents, Elwood and Helen Nelson; and one sister, Joan Tuma. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Eva Fiechtner
MONANGO -- Eva Fiechtner, 96, Monango, died July 28, 1996, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monango. Further arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Imelda Aberle
RICHARDTON -- Sister Imelda (Anna Mary) Aberle, 85, Sacred Heart Monastery, Richardton, died July 27, 1996, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today at Sacred Heart Monastery, Richardton, with the Rev. David Wolf officiating. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery, with Prioress Paula Larson presiding.

Sister Imelda, the third oldest of five children, was born April 13, 1911, to Frances (Vetter) and Anton Aberle, on a farm in Emmons County. After grade school she stayed at home to work on the farm. She entered Sacred Heart Monastery, then located at Garrison in 1930. She made her monastic profession in 1932. She served as cook, laundress, boarding school prefect, and convent housekeeper for the Catholic Schools in Fallon, Garrison, Karlsruhe, Elbowoods, and at Sacred Heart Convent and St. Leo's School in Minot. She was also a cook at St. Luke's Hospital in Crosby, and St. Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck. From 1971 to 1996 she was stationed at Sacred Heart Monastery in Richardton where she was first in charge of maintenance and purchasing, and then took care of hospitality for guests and spirituality center groups. Sister Imelda was esteemed and loved by everyone who walked in the door of the monastery for her natural ability to welcome friends and strangers all as Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by several nephews and nieces, as well as the Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery.

Pallbearers are the Sisters of the monastery. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Edward Johnson
STEELE -- Edward H. Johnson, 55, Steele, died July 29, 1996, at his home. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Candice Fox
Candice Ann Fox, 16, Bullhead, S.D., died July 25, 1996, of an accident at her home. Services will be held at noon Wednesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bullhead, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her mother, Joyce Ann Hollow, Bullhead; her father, Gary Fox, Los Angeles; three sisters, Wanda White Eagle, Patricia Brown and Jewell Brown, all of Bullhead; and five brothers, Larry, Waylen and Michael, all of Bullhead, and Gary and Allen, both of Bismarck. John Jensen
STEELE -- John W. Jensen, 89, Steele, died July 1, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Steele United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marvin Winstryg officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele.

Visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel and will continue at the church one hour before services.

John was born April 17, 1907, in Forsaa, Norway, the son of Wilhelm and Annine (Johanneson) Jensen. He came to the United States with his family as an infant. He was raised and educated at Robinson. John graduated from Robinson High School at attended college for one year. He married Lydia Fuhrman Nov. 24, 1938, in Bowdon. They lived in Steele, where John worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as office manager until retiring after 35 years of service.

After John's retirement he was appointed Kidder County Justice. John enjoyed spending time at the bowling alley, fishing and gardening. John was a former member of Lions and Steele United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Darlene, Grayling, Mich., and Larry and Linda, Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Cordle, Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marie Mahin, Breckenridge, Minn., Agnes Mahin, Dawson, and Olga and Drexel White, St. Paul, Minn., and Harry Bill, Brainerd, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Anne Bill.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Shiloh Christian School or Steele United Methodist Church.

Ingar Braaten
WILLISTON -- Ingar Braaten, 89, Williston, died July 2, 1996, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Ragnhild; three sisters, Hilda Yates, Spokane, Wash., Margaret Arends, Williston, and Alfhild Gjorven, Minot. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Wilbur Kalil
WILLISTON -- Wilbur Kalil, 89, Williston, died July 1, 1996, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; five sisters, Rose Kalil, Sacramento, Calif., Leona Lukenbill, Sacramento, Marion Knudson, Wilmington, Del., Sadie Zine, Elverta, Calif., and Cecelia Forzley, Great Falls, Mont.; and two brothers, Bud, Fargo, and Mike, Mesa, Ariz. Herbert Aipperspach
BEULAH -- Herbert Aipperspach, 79, Beulah, died July 2, 1996, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Saturday at Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Caroline Lutkat
Caroline M. Lutkat, 77, Mandan, died July 1, 1996, of cancer complications in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. James Baneck officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. A light supper will be served for all to celebrate her departure for heaven.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Caroline was born Nov. 17, 1918, at Hebron, the daughter of William and Margaret (Triber) Mische. She was raised and educated in the area. She moved to Mandan in 1945 where she married and lived the rest of her active life. She was a mobile home park owner, church organist and avid African violet enthusiast. She touched many lives in everything she did, but her special love offering to the Lord was the establishment of Immanuel Christian School in Mandan.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerome Scheitel, Mandan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Liz, Entiat, Wash., and Bill and Sandra, Ashley; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Henry, Hebron; and two sisters, Marie Rehm, Dickinson, and Clara Rehm, Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family prefers memorials to Immanuel Christian School.

Gary Demery
Gary Demery, 38, Mobridge, S.D., died June 28, 1996, in the Mobridge hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Assumption, Kenel, S.D., with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his father, Leslie, Eagle Butte, S.D.; two sons, Joseph and Robert, both of California; three brothers, Dale, Mobridge, DelRay, Watertown, S.D., and Eddie, Montana; and four sisters, Fran, Leslie and Colleen Demery, all of Kenel, and Deeann Bear Catches, Kenel. NEW SALEM -- Willmer Held, 81, New Salem, died July 3, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at Peace Church, New Salem. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Brian Feist
BOWMAN -- Bryan P. Feist, 85, Bowman, died July 2, 1996, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Bowman, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; and three daughters, Noreine Richard, Spearfish, S.D., Maryann Brunet, Houma, La., and Carolyn Voss, Rapid City, S.D. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Thelma Helland
COOPERSTOWN -- Thelma Helland, 85, Cooperstown, died July 3, 1996, in the Cooperstown hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Binford. Further arrangements are pending.

Olvie Bonderud
CARRINGTON -- Olive Bonderud, 83, Carrington, died July 1, 1996, in a Moorhead, Minn., nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, with burial in Carrington Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Sidney; one daughter, Annette Laude, Fargo; and two sons, Dennis, Grand Forks, and Jim, Beulah.

Bertha Golly
Bertha Golly, 82, Bismarck, died July 2, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Graveside services will be at Grandview Cemetery, Austin, Minn.

She is survived by one son, Eugene, Bismarck; one sister, Hulda Schaible, Bismarck; two brothers, Emil Bauer, Garrison, and Wilber Bauer, Bismarck; and nieces and nephews.
