Dorothy Boelter
Dorothy Boelter, 88, 1111 N. First St., died May 28, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Larry Jahnke officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today and will continue until service time.

Dorothy C. Boelter was born Aug. 6, 1908, at Alcaster, S.D., to William H. and Marion (Jensen) Pinn. She grew up in Bentley, Mott and Mandan. She graduated from Mandan High School and worked for several years for Mandan Grocery.

She married Edward G. Boelter Jan. 25, 1929, at Niles Center, Ill. They returned to Bismarck where Edward owned and operated Boelter Funeral Home. He retired in 1969 and they spent time between their cabin at Lake Sakakawea and Mesa, Ariz.

Art was her life. Dorothy painted and taught porcelain art at her studios at Lake Sakakawea and Mesa, Ariz. She was well known for her art work locally as well as in Mesa. Dorothy received many awards for art and was active in local art associations. She co-authored a book on drawing with Bruce B. McGhie in 1982 called "I Can't Draw A Straight Line."

Dorothy was a member of Missouri Slope Shrine Auxiliary and Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Broxmeyer, Riverdale; one son and his fiance, Steve, Bismarck, and Karen Geiger, Mandan; seven grandchildren, Linda Hanson, Brian and Renee Eslinger, Gayle and John Miller, Jodi and Earl Hathaway, Terry and Scott Marvin, Shane and Anglea Boelter and Chris Boelter; and seven great-grandchildren, Michael and Rusty, Nicole and Ashley, Cori and Dustin and Kayse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, who died April 28, 1997; and a brother, Charles.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the H.E.L.P. Center in care of the Masonic Center, Bismarck.

Nii McAddy
Nii "Mike" McAddy, 42, 1829 San Diego Drive, died May 25, 1997, in Austin, Texas, of natural causes. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Mark Bayert officiating. Burial will be in Ghana, West Africa.

Visitation will be noon-8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Mike was born Jan. 14, 1955, in Ghana, to Cedric and Matilda (Quay) McAddy. He was raised and attended school in Ghana and moved to the United States to attend Oklahoma State University. He was married to Sandra Pfleger Aug. 22, 1991, in Dallas. They made their home in Bismarck. Mike was the chemistry lab supervisor at Dakota Gasification Co. in Beulah.

Mike enjoyed working on his cars and doing woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; one daughter, Jennifer, Paris Island, S.C.; his mother, Matilda, Ghana; five sisters, Noami Richardson, Carrollton, Texas, Norma Lennon, Mattapan, Mass., Paulinea, Grace and Esther, all of Ghana; and four brothers, Atta, Bronx, N.Y., Solomon and Oko, both of London, England, Bisi, Ghana.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Ruby Sorensen
Ruby L. Sorensen, 76, Garrison, died May 26, 1997, in the Garrison nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, with the Rev. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be noon-6 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison. A vigil-prayer service will begin at 8 tonight at the church. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Ruby Louise Balucki was born Sept. 9, 1920, near Max, the daughter of Jacob and Paulina (Albus) Balucki. She grew up in the Max area and attended Crystal Rural School. On Oct. 28, 1937, she married Robert Sorensen in Garrison. They lived near Garrison until 1985, when they moved into Garrison. Robert died Nov. 20, 1995.

Ruby was a member of Crystallite Homemakers and St. Anne's Altar Society. She was a good seamstress, and enjoyed working outdoors. She liked golfing and playing cards.

She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Arlene and Carson Crowder, Sacramento, Calif., Merle Torkelson, Washburn, Carol and Daniel LaMantain-Leatherman, Perris, Calif., and Patricia and Melvin Birkholz, Garrison; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank, Max; one sister, Paulina Fiske, Long Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Roger and Kelly; and several brothers and sisters.

Mildred Christianson
Mildred Christianson, 79, died May 20, 1997, in Mesa, Ariz. Services were held in Mesa May 24.

Mildred was born April 7, 1918, at Arnegard, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Stevens. She married Walt Christianson Feb. 7, 1936, at Watford City. Mildred was a bookkeeper and Avon representative. They moved to Mesa in 1970, becoming some of the first North Dakota "Snowbirds." Mildred loved to read and crochet afghans for her family. She was an accomplished bridge player and enjoyed golf and bowling in earlier years. She served on her church board in Mesa.

She is survived by her husband, Walt; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Larry Grantier, Winnett, Mont., Joan and Bob Vernon, Mesa, and Stella and Marv Nelson, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Jo, Jamestown; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don, Watford City, and Bob, Grants Pass, Ore., and Alan, Montana; and one sister, Maryjane Zimmerman, Mesa. Surviving grandchildren and their spouses in Bismarck are Todd and Denise Nelson, Roxi and Mike Miller, Troy Nelson and Carol Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister.

Robert Froelick
Robert C. Froelick died at his home in Lompoc, Calif., May 2, 1997. Memorial services were held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, with the Rev. John Fitzgerald of Queen of Angels Catholic Church officiating.

Mr. Froelick was born June 23, 1923, in Tacoma, Wash., the son of Jacob and Monica (Moser) Froelick. He was raised and educated in Mandan, and attended Montana State University at Missoula. Mr. Froelick was employed by Northern Pacific Railroad for several years. He worked for ITT for many years, retiring in 1981. He moved to Lompoc in 1969 from Satellite Beach, Fla. He was a past president of Life Options, Vocational and Resource Center (LOVARC). He enjoyed gardening and working with computers.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Aileen Froelick, Lompoc; one daughter, Deborah Froelick, Mendocino, Calif.; three sons, Burton and Mark, both of Lompoc, and Gregory, Santa Barbara, Calif.; one sister, Violet Kautzmann, Denver; two brothers, Richard, Carmichael, Calif., and Douglas, Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to LOVARC, 123 N. D St., Lompoc, Calif. 93436.

Lillian Gillette
Lillian Gillette, 98, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died May 20, 1997, in the nursing home. Private memorial services will be held for the lifelong Burleigh County resident at First Presbyterian Church. Inurnment of her ashes will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Lillian was born May 22, 1898, in Bismarck, the daughter of Robert and Anna Stebbins. She spent most of her life in Bismarck and attended Bismarck schools. She worked for the telephone company. She married George Gillette in 1920. He preceded her in death in 1972.

She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Sjoblom, Bismarck; two daughters, Jean Ireland, Boston, and Jeri Brostrom, Sequim, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. (Eastgate Funeral Service)

Frank Willson Sr.
Frank A. Willson Sr., 74, 2022 E. Ave. D, died May 28, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at McCabe United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Peary Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites provided by VFW Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Frank was born Dec. 4, 1922, at Madelia, Minn., the son of Frank and Lexie (Wood) Willson. He grew up and attended school in Webster City, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. In October 1948, he was honorably discharged. Frank married Freda Daniel May 8, 1947. They made their home in Bismarck. He was employed with Curtiss Candy Co. before going into the plumbing business. He worked for various contractors through the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 795, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Eagles, VFW, Elks and Moose. He enjoyed traveling, camping, horseback riding and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Freda; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank Jr. and Marlene, Bismarck, and Dan and Bonnie, Regan; one daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Ken Welch, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Wendy and Franki Jo Willson, Jonathan and Nathan Willson, and Rick and Nina Welch; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia and Willis Abramson, Iowa; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Chelsea and Shirley, Washington, Russell, Claude and Etheldra, Richard and Virginia, and Larry and his fiance, LaVae, all of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Eileen McAlister.

Rosa Kuntz
Rosa Kuntz, 96, St. Vincent's Care Center, died April 30, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Revs. Ed Wehner and Arnold Spain officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will begin at 7 tonight, followed by a vigil service at 7:30.

Rosa was born Feb. 23, 1901, in Sliz, Russia, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Scheeler) Hochstein. Rosa came to America in 1903, and settled in Estevan, Canada. She married Jacob J. Kuntz, Nov. 4, 1919, in Richardton. They farmed south of Richardton for several years. They then moved to Regent and farmed there for 42 years. In 1960 they retired to Dickinson, and in 1980 moved to Marillac Manor in Bismarck. Rosa entered St. Vincent's Care Center in March 1996.

She was a member of Church of St. Anne, Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Immaculate Conception No. 322. She was active in RSVP for 10 years, and played in the Happy Time Band. She was also the eucharistic leader and minister for the church. Rosa loved to bake and to make homemade noodles for the family.

She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Asplieder, Glendive, Mont.; eight daughters and five sons-in-law, Sister Mary Noel Kuntz, Albuquerque, N.M., Betty and Mike Steiner, Bozeman, Mont., Caroline and Anton Steiner, Mott, Frieda Wilson, Miles City, Mont., Rose and Alex Dukart, Dickinson, Agnes and Norman Regnaud, Springville, Fla., Thelma Klein, Spokane, Wash., and Teddie and Kermit Herner, Wilton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Terry, and Mike and Lorraine, all of Hardin, Mont., and Val and Pat, Belgrade, Mont.; 45 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandchild; and great-grandchild.

The family prefers memorials to Provocation of the Faith.

Wilma Vandam
JAMESTOWN -- Wilma J. Vandam, 64, Jamestown, died April 30, 1997, in Jamestown. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

She is survived by four daughters, Julie Miller, Bonnie Oster and Lisa Sevik, all of Jamestown, and Kathy Gahagen, Virginia; and two sons, John and James, both of Seattle.

Myrna Bossert
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Myrna J. Bossert, 54, Moorhead, died April 28, 1997, in Fargo. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Horace Lutheran Church, with burial in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

She is survived by one son, Tim, Horace; one daughter, Brenda Seher, Baldwin; and one sister, Audrey Huseth, Riverside, Calif. (Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo)

Alvina Guthmiller
CARRINGTON -- Alvina Guthmiller, 77, Carrington, died April 30, 1997, in Carrington. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pettibone, with burial in Petersville Cemetery.

She is survived by one sister, Rose Leapaldt, Woodworth; and one brother, Leonard Guthmiller, Pettibone. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Olive Phillips
Olive F. Phillips, 70, Bismarck, died May 1, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home.

Olive was born Nov. 18, 1926, at Chelan, Wash., the daughter of Roy and Elaine (Macey) Phillips. She was raised and educated in Chelan, and graduated from high school in Spokane, Wash. She attended dress designing and modeling schools in Chicago. Olive came to Bismarck in 1975, where she owned The Sewing Room until 1990 when she retired due to her health.

Olive was a devoted mother and wife. She loved feeding the birds and always found a home for a stray cat. She was devoted to animals and was active in the Humane Society.

She is survived by her former husband, Albert; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Chris and Kristine, and Mike and Les; and one granddaughter, Carrie.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cassie. (Boelter Funeral Home)

Eva Dawson
ALMONT -- Eva A. Dawson, 69, New Salem, died April 30, 1997, in the New Salem nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday at Almont Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Van Vechten Crane officiating. Burial will be in Almont Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Elm Crest Manor, and will continue from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem. Visitation will continue Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at the church one hour before services.

Eva was born Sept. 13, 1927, at Almont, the daughter of Peter and Gertrude (Danhauer) Hegel. She was raised in the area and attended rural schools. She worked at the Tavis Cafe in Almont and married Levi J. "Bud" Dawson, Oct. 1, 1946, in Almont. They ranched southeast of Almont. Bud died July 1, 1995. Eva moved to Elm Crest Manor on Oct. 8, 1993.

Eva was very active in the Almont American Legion Auxiliary and American Lutheran Church of Almont. She always raised a large garden and did a lot of canning.

Eva is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and William Bahm, Almont; three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Marcy, Lakeville, Minn., James and Lenore, Almont, and Larry and Kay, Hammond, Ore.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Maddox, Macon, Ga.; five brothers, Vincent, Heil, Chris, Salem, Ore., Jack, Bismarck, Tony, Portland, Ore., and Adam, Arlington, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; two sisters, Betty Meyer and Rose Nelson; and one step-granddaughter.

Wesley Morrison
HAZEN -- Wesley D. Morrison, 79, Hazen, died May 27, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Revs. Duane Hanson and Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Wesley Dean Morrison was born Feb. 10, 1918, at Robinson, a son of William and Sophia (Schillinger) Morrison. He was raised and educated near Robinson and had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for a time. On Oct. 6, 1940, he married Ann Lindseth at Moorhead, Minn. They lived in Peoria, Ill., and Pontiac, Mich., for a time. In 1946 they moved to North Dakota. In 1967 they moved to Tacoma, Wash., where he worked as a welder for Boeing Aircraft, retiring in 1985. While with Boeing, he welded parts for the Lunar Rover which is still on the moon. He also restored antique airplanes while there and his name is in the Boeing Museum. Following his retirement they returned to North Dakota and lived at Velva until moving to Hazen in 1995.

Wesley was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. He had been a member of Masonic Lodge for 43 years. During their retirement years, Wesley and Ann were able to travel extensively, including a trip to Norway which they truly enjoyed. Among his favorites were gardening and his welding.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Patrick Durick, Bismarck, and Effie Sophia and Mark Carr, Hazen; one son, Johnny Wayne Morrison, Baytown, Texas; six grandchildren, Randy Durick, Minneapolis, Kelly Durick, Bismarck, Shelly Rios, Mountain Home, Idaho, Paul Morrison, Oregon, and Wesley Carr and Sara Carr, both of Hazen; two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Alexis Rios; four sisters, Mildred Darst, Galesburg, Ill., Delores Speed, Covina, Calif., Beatrice Hopton, Covina, Calif., and Doris Wheeler, Marietta, Ill.; and one brother, Raymond, Macomb, Ill.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.

Melita Mertz
DENHOFF -- Melita Mertz, 87, Denhoff, died May 28, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Goodrich, with burial in St. Jacobus Lutheran Cemetery, Goodrich.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Melita was born March 24, 1910, at Max, the daughter of Fred and Odiela (Zarbock) Anhorn. She grew up and attended school near Max. She married William "Bill" Mertz Dec. 23, 1931, at Harvey. They lived and farmed north of Goodrich. In 1950, the moved to a farm near Denhoff. They retired in 1970 and moved into Denhoff. He died May 30, 1990. She moved to Redwood Village in Wilton in 1995, and to Mandan Villa in 1996.

She is survived by seven sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Loretta, Gary and Marilyn, Arlin and Marlene, William and Carol, David and Sharon, Curtis and Linda, and Clarence and Nancy, all of Bismarck; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Odiela and Elmer Laib, McClusky, Glennis and Bennie Muscha, Harvey, and Lois Mertz, Bismarck; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Mertz, Norwich; two brothers, Bill and Edwin, both of Lodi, Calif.; six half-brothers, Otto, Minot, Clarence, Sawyer, Robert, Champlin, Minn., Charles and Marvin, both of Senger, Calif., and Alvin, White Sulfur Springs, Mont.; five half-sisters, Blanche Pennoyer and Dorrette Martoglio, both of Ronan, Mont., Doreen Frolin, Niarada, Mont., Marcella Lee, Troy, Mont., and Eleanor Kloehn, LaPorte, Minn.; 38 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons, Whelan and Allen; and one daughter, Melita.
