Murril Chase
HAZEN -- Murril Stetson Chase, 96, Hazen, died May 12, 1998, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Friday at Salem United Methodist Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Rick Loewen officiating. Burial will be in Hazen Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Delton Schwarz, Kendall Miller, Steve Chase, Michael Chase, Nick Chase, Cole Chase and R.E. Chase.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Murril was born Nov. 12, 1901, at Alta, Iowa, a daughter of Ernest L. and Beatrice "Bessie" (Morrical) Stetson. She moved with her parents to a farm 6 miles south of Hazen as a child. On Dec. 21, 1919, she married Ralph Chase at Mora, Minn. After their marriage, they lived in Hazen and Minneapolis, before returning to Hazen, where Mr. Chase was a building contractor. He died in 1963. Murril was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Hazen.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Geraldine, Bismarck, and Jerald, Hazen; one daughter, Mildred Richter, Hazen; two daughters-in-law and sons-in-law, Bette and Earl Chase, Washburn, and Delores Ralph Chase, Hazen; one sister, Pearl Holoch, Portland, Ore.; 16 grandchildren, Earlann Archer, Fargo, Candice Cook, Mohall, Michael Chase, Hazen, Cole Chase, Las Vegas, Priscilla Schwarz, Minot, Steven Chase, Bismarck, Melanie Sims, Riverton, Wyo., Susan Devine, Bismarck, Cynthia Preus, Plymouth, Minn., Kaaren White, Las Cruces, N.M., Ralph Chase III, Sacramento, Calif., Nicholas Chase, Fargo, Jodee Schwarz, Hazen, Jes Chase, Seattle, Judith Miller, Hazen, and Marjie McLaughlin, Hazen; 32 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Murril was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; two sons, Earl and Ralph Jr. "Bob;" one daughter-in-law, Anne Chase; one son-in-law, Elmer J. Richter; five brothers, Harold, Cole, Orie, Sam and Forrest; one sister, Mabel Bieloh; and one great-granddaughter.

Elmer Tibke
NEW SALEM -- Elmer Tibke, 80, New Salem, died May 12, 1998, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Friday at Peace Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Richard Herb officiating. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Elmer was born on the family farm near Elgin on Aug. 16, 1917, the son of John and Tillie (Mikleson) Tibke. He attended rural schools and moved with his family to Warwick, where he ranched with his parents. He married Elvera Quam, Oct. 14, 1941, in Warwick. They moved to New Salem in 1967. Elvera died Sept. 15, 1984. Elmer worked on road construction. He married Lorel Zander in Bismarck, Feb 14, 1986.

Elmer was a member of Peace Church, and he loved fishing, old cars, driving, auction sales, gardening and flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Lorel; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Tillie, and Edward and Sheila, all of New Salem; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Virgil and Fern Koenig, Mandan, and Garry and Jeanne Koenig, Mesa, Ariz.; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Jean and Larry Jasper, Bismarck; six grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 23 step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Paul Kranich, Elgin, and Cleo and Paul DePlazes, Devils Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elvera; and one son, Sidney.

James Miller
James Henry Miller, 41, Bismarck, died May 6, 1998, in Bismarck. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating.

James H. Miller was born Feb. 22, 1957, in Bay City, Mich., the son of Henry and Patricia Miller. He was raised in Bay City and graduated from Ferris State College with a degree in industrial chemistry. Jim was employed by Amoco Oil Co. in Whiting, Ind., and Mandan. Jim was involved in various projects and activities organized by the Amoco Refinery. They include Golden Age Service projects, and organizing, planning, coordinating and participating in the Torch Classic Charity Hockey Game. He also led efforts which resulted in the construction of contractor facilities at the Amoco Refinery. Jim was also involved with the marketing efforts for Mandan Refinery.

Jim was very involved with the Bismarck Hockey Boosters. He was instrumental in the organization of the "Old Man" Recreational Hockey League. He also coached his son, Alex, in hockey, and his daughters, Jaime and Katie, in soccer. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his parents, Henry and Patricia Miller, Bay City; three children, Jaime, Katelyn and Alexander Miller, and their mother, Terri Miller, all of Bismarck; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bethany and Eric Westin, Jackson, Mich., and Amy and Randall Bertalan, Valparaiso, Ind.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a very special friend, Debbie Hoffman, and her children, John, Jessie and Melissa.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda and Lori Miller.

The family prefers memorials to Bismarck Hockey Boosters.

Willis Dimond
BALDWIN -- Willis M. Dimond, 63, Baldwin, died May 11, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by VFW Post No. 1326.

Willis was born June 24, 1934, in Bismarck, the son of Willard Harold and Mabel (Gorden) Dimond. He was raised and educated in Baldwin and Bismarck. He entered the U.S. Army and served at Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Hood, Okinawa, and was honorably discharged on Sept. 6, 1954.

After his service in the Army, he moved to Baldwin and worked construction and farmed. He married Leona Huff in 1955. He later married Luella Enzi. They lived in the Bismarck and Manteca, Calif. area. In 1991 Willis moved back to Baldwin where he resided until his death.

He was a member of the VFW and loved fishing and the outdoors. He was a friend to all.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Evelyn, Phoenix, and Dwaine and Brenda, Las Vegas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyle and Donna Jean, Baldwin, and Don and Kay, East Grand Forks, Minn.; one sister and brother-in-law, Olivetta and Ed Loveland, Fargo; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Darren Williams
Darren Randall Williams, 32, Boise, Idaho, and formerly of New Rockford, died May 6, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at First Lutheran Church, New Rockford. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.

He is survived by his parents, Richard and Opal Williams, New Rockford; two brothers, Douglas, Carrington, and Richard Jr., Bismarck; one sister, Laurie Williams Ames, Devils Lake; and his grandmother, Laura Williams, New Rockford. (Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford)

Orville Woodhouse
WIBAUX, Mont. -- Orville M. Woodhouse, 92, Wibaux, died May 12, 1998. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at Christian Fundamental Church, Wibaux, with burial in Wibaux Cemetery.

He is survived by three daughters, Jean Huff, Pensacola, Fla., Elaine Hall, Wibaux, and Carolyn Lauf, Wibaux; and two sisters, Dorothy Bergquist, Longview, Wash., and Audrey Swanson, Castle Rock, Wash. (Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach)

Lorraine Gilbertson
KILLDEER -- Lorraine I. Gilbertson, 70, Killdeer, died May 12, 1998, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at Normanna Lutheran Church, Dunn Center, with burial in Dunn Center Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Byron; one daughter, Rhonda Hoff, Canoga Park, Calif.; two sisters, Erma Holt and Faye Leiss, both of Dickinson; and one brother, Eldon Moore, Missoula, Mont. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Phyllis Siefken
DICKINSON -- Phyllis L. Siefken, 73, Dickinson, died May 13, 1998, in the Dickinson hospital. Arrangements are pending at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

John Madler
NEW ENGLAND -- John Madler, 86, Billings, formerly of New England, died May 12, 1998. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Holy Rosary Church, Billings, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; three daughters, Ellie Urlacher, Billings, Mag Fitterer and Jan Wald, both of Sacramento, Calif.; one son, Elmer, Mandan. (Smith Downtown Chapel, Billings)

Donald Baker
REEDER -- Donald E. Baker, 80, Reeder, died May 12, 1998, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at Reeder Congregational Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Reeder.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, William, Sumner, Wash., Ronald, Bismarck, and Chuck, Fargo; two daughters, Betty Dacar, Bismarck, and Diane Larson, Grand Junction, Colo.; three sisters, Bernice Knapp, Gold Canyon, Ariz., Alice Sherwood, Spearfish, S.D., and Leona Fox, Belle Fourche, S.D.; and two brothers, Robert, Reeder, and Raymond, Bismarck. Rueben Schlenker
EDGELEY -- Rueben Schlenker, 70, Edgeley, died May 12, 1998, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown, with burial in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two sons, Calvin, Judy, and Wayne, Loma Linda, Calif.; one brother, Harry, Jud; and three sisters, Lucille Butrick, Oklahoma City, Okla., Marian Nitschke, Jamestown, and Norma Pruitt, Wichita, Kan. (Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Harvey Wentland
WIBAUX, Mont. -- Harvey John William Wentland, 89, Wibaux, died Sept. 15, 1997. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Friday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Beach, with burial in Sentinel Butte Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; two daughters, Alice Wentland, Great Falls, Mont., and Elaine Russell, Billings, Mont.; three sisters, Vivian Lawhead, Lake Wales, Fla., Alma Lemire, Clarkston, Wash., and Ruth Thorpe, Issaquah, Wash.; and two brothers, John, Santa Maria, Calif., and Howard, Chugiak, Ark. Myrtelle Norby
Myrtelle H. Norby, 95, Cuba, Mo., died Sept. 12, 1997, in a Sullivan, Mo. hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Ronald, Fresno, Calif. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Magdalena Clark
WOODWORTH -- Magdalena Clark, 102, Woodworth, died Sept. 16, 1997, in Woodworth. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Woodworth American Lutheran Church, with burial in Gem Cemetery.

Wilbert Steckler
BOWMAN -- Wilbert J. Steckler, 69, Bowman, died Sept. 16, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Bowman, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by five sons, Dan, Bismarck, Duane, Bowman, Delwin, Moorhead, Minn., Kellen, Rapid City, S.D., and David, New Salem; one daughter, Kayleen Bar, Dickinson; and two sisters, Agnes Kubik, Manning, and Charolette Zadowsky, Avon, Conn. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Jamal Two Shields
CANNON BALL -- Jamal Two Shields, the infant son of Albert Two Shields Jr. and Roberta Ramsey, Cannon Ball, died Sept. 15, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Episcopal Church, Cannon Ball, with the Rev. John Floberg officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Jamal Tyrell Two Shields, was born July 10, 1997, in Bismarck, to Albert Two Shields Jr. and Roberta Ramsey.

He is survived by his parents; one sister, Shelagh Two Shields, Cannon Ball; his grandmothers, Mavis Ramsey, Fort Totten, and Leona Standing Bear, Cannon Ball; his grandfather, Albert Two Shields Sr., Cannon Ball; and his great-grandfather, Sidney Ramsey, Mandan.

He is also survived by his aunts, Marge Himes and Georgina Weinstein, both of Denver, Janelle Plenty Chief, Shields, Noreen Two Shields and Beverly Two Shields, both of Cannon Ball, Cassandra Big Track, Fort Yates, and Avis Big Track, Brockton, Mont.; his uncles, Robert Two Shields, Fort Yates, Troy Two Shields, Bismarck, Kelly Big Track, Fort Totten, and Sidney Big Track, Belcourt; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by one grandmother; one great-grandmother; two grandfathers; and two aunts.

Charles Binstock
NEW ENGLAND -- Charles Binstock, 62, New England, died Sept. 17, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New England. Further arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

William Jurgens
TAYLOR -- William Jurgens, 82, Taylor, died Sept. 16, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at Immanual United Church of Christ, Taylor. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Ron Walz
ZAP -- Ron Walz, 54, Zap, died of cancer, Sept. 15, 1997, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah, with burial in St. John's Wittenburg Cemetery, rural Zap.

He is survived by his wife, Mardi; four daughters, Lynn Schaper, Halliday, Marcy Weatherspoon, Germany, Stacy Peckham, Jamestown, and Destiny Walz, Zap; two sons, Zach, Zap, and Blaine, Beulah; and one brother, Gary, Montana. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Sydney Arnson
WILLISTON -- Sydney Arnson, 76, Williston, died Sept. 17, 1997, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by one son, Robert, West Bonetraill; one daughter, Kay, Glendive, Mont.; and one brother, Orlando, Williston. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Mildred Simle
Mildred (Fried) Simle, 90, Bismarck, died Sept. 16, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Mark A. Bayert officiating.

Mildred Lucille Fried was born Dec. 26, 1906, in Fried, the daughter of Peter and Davina (Gray) Fried. Mildred graduated from Jamestown High School and began teaching school in a "little red school house" near Courtney. She had attended Jamestown College and graduated from University of Minnesota in 1930. Mildred moved to Bismarck in 1931, where she taught physical education at Bismarck junior and senior high schools until she married T.E. Simle, June 5, 1933. Mr. Simle, former superintendent of Bismarck Public Schools, and for whom Simle Middle School is named, died Nov. 17, 1963. Following the death of Mr. Simle, Mildred resumed teaching at Hughes Junior High School until her retirement in 1972. She remained at Hughes as a para-professional for 10 more years.

Mildred was an avid sports fan, who rarely missed a local high school game or a Minnesota Twins broadcast. She was active in Girl Scouts for more than 40 years, a charter member of Burleigh County Council on Aging, and served on the County Social Service Board for more than 30 years. She was an original Meals on Wheels volunteer and active in Bismarck Public Schools Faculty Wives. Other organizations in which she was involved included: Fortnightly Club, Chapter AP PEO, American Association of University Women and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Mildred was also a Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church of Bismarck for approximately 30 years, and served as a church elder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, T.E. Simle; her parents, Peter and Davina Fried; one brother, Norman O. Fried.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Bonnie Fried, New Castle, Wyo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary Alice Simle, Fargo; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bruce Wendt, Bismarck; three grandchildren, Stacey Simle, Fargo, Kelly Simle Gillett, San Antonio, Texas, and Laura Wendt, Grand Forks.
