George Fourth
CANNON BALL -- George V. Fourth, 53, Cannon Ball, died Nov. 8, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Veterans Memorial Building, Cannon Ball, with the Rev. Casimir Paluck officiating. Burial will be in Congregational Cemetery, Cannon Ball.

A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

George was born June 8, 1944, at Cannon Ball, where he grew up and attended schools. He also attended Standing Rock College. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was a member of Mathew American Horse Post.

He is survived by his special friend, Thelma Shell Track; four daughters, Adella, Arvella, Georgetta and Ada, all of Cannon Ball; two sisters, Angelene Iron Road, Cannon Ball, and Henrietta Fourth, Williston; and 10 grandchildren.

Alma Grant
HAZEN -- Alma Grant, 64, Hazen, died Nov. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Richard Tvedt
ALAMO -- Richard Tvedt, 70, Alamo, died Nov. 7, 1997, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Alamo, with burial in Hauge Cemetery.

He is survived by two sisters, Pearl Frantzick, Poplar, Mont., and Alice Magnuson, Wildrose; and one brother, Vernon, Plentywood, Mont. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Ruth Kludt
MCCLUSKY -- Ruth Kludt, 64, McClusky, died Nov. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, McClusky. Arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Herbert Friez
Herbert J. Friez, 78, 1314 Spaulding Ave., Bismarck, died Nov. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jim Moos officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today, and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., both at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Herb was born June 9, 1919, at Merrill Township in Hettinger County, to Christ and Pauline (Kramer) Friez. He received his education in Hettinger and Grant County. Herb married Louise Crary on Sept. 18, 1945, at Wibaux, Mont., and they farmed in Hettinger County until 1948. From 1948 to 1950, they owned and operated Herb's Bar in Elgin. In the fall of 1950, he became manager of the Watrus Elevator, and in 1958, he managed the Westside Elevator in Mott. From 1963 to 1968, he owned and operated Herb's Standard Service in Mott. Herb then worked as a bookkeeper at the Mott Equity Exchange. He retired in 1979 and they moved to Bismarck in 1984.

Among Herb's greatest joys in life was his family. Each grandchild and his new great-granddaughter, Erika McDonald, occupied a special spot in his heart.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Bruce Dahl, Rapid City, S.D.; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Connie, and Douglas and Vicky, all of Bismarck; two sisters, Martha McCullough, Bismarck, Ruth Hendershott, Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Harold and Ray, both of Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Brian, Brent and Eric Dahl, Kay McDonald, Michael Friez, Kellie Britten, Jamie and Christopher Friez; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother.

The family prefers memorials to United Church of Christ.

John Schock Jr.
John Schock Jr., 82, formerly of Bismarck, died Nov. 9, 1997, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. James Sorenson officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

John was born Dec. 4, 1914, in Turtle Lake, the son of John and Christine (Ehni) Schock, Sr. He grew up and attended school in Turtle Lake. He farmed until he married Edna M. Schott on June 3, 1938, in Turle Lake. They made their home in Turtle Lake, where John worked in the local creamery, managed the theatre, and operated the hotel and cafe. They later moved to Minot where John was the maintenance engineer at the Americana Nursing Center. In 1973, they moved to Bismarck, where he worked at YMCA. Edna died Jan. 19, 1990. In September of 1997, John entered the Wishek nursing home.

John enjoyed woodworking and singing with the Northern Lights and English Singers. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

He is survived by five daughters and two sons-in-law, Jeannette Spitzer, Bismarck, Lillian and James Prince, Wheatland, Wyo., Ethel and Darrell Hanson, Mesa, Ariz., Gloria Kleese, Jamestown, and Alice Matthews, Wishek; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy P. and pam, Metaire, La.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Reinhold and Clara, Turtle Lake, and Emil and Verna, Velva; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen Fischer, Turtle Lake, and Emma and George Whitacker, San Gabriel, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents; and two brothers. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Albert Heimbuck
Albert Heimbuck, 89, 310 E. Ave. C, Bismarck, died Nov. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas Marcis Jr., officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in the Arena Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Albert Heimbuck was born Sept. 27, 1908, in Polluck, S.D., the son of Jacob and Rose (Neumiller) Heimbuck. Albert was raised and educated in the McClusky area. He married Helen Wolff on Oct. 27, 1934, and they farmed in the Regan and Wing area. Helen died March 20, 1965. Albert married Lena Wentz on Dec. 2, 1967. They moved to Bismarck in 1968 and resided here until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Lena; three daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Gerald Leno, Florissant, Colo., Mildred and Marvin Hanel, Erie, Colo., and Brenda and Kenneth Trautman, Silver Lake, Kan.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wilmer and LaVonne, Breckenridge, Minn., and Darrel and Sandra, Bismarck; four stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Mavin Houghton, Steele, Jeannette Holzer, Bismarck, Gloria and Clarence Kapp, Jamestown, and Bernice Morgan, Las Vegas; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Earl and Irene Wentz, and Curt and Diane Wentz, all of Bismarck; two brothers, Fred and William, both of Oregon, four sisters, Martha Mowder, Bismarck, Edna Franklin, Waterloo, Iowa, Elsie Smith and Esther Seales, both of Oregon; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; one brother, Ed; and one sister, Rose Jones. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Orris Shattuck
Orris C. Shattuck, 97, Bismarck, died Nov. 9, 1997, at a local nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour prior to services Thursday, both at Boelter Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Orris was born at Belvidere, Ill., Sept. 18, 1900, the son of Orris C. and Margaret (Curtis) Shattuck. When he was 4 years old, the family moved to Barnard, S.D., and lived on a family farm. Orris graduated from Barnard High School and University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D., with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for Northwestern Public Service in Aberdeen and Webster, S.D.

Orris married Phyllis Fuller in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Webster. During World War II, he worked in Utah and Berkeley, Calif. They came to Bismarck in 1946, when Orris began working for Montana Dakota Utilities as an electrical engineer. He retired in 1968.

He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge No. 5, and was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Webster, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union.

Orris is survived by his wife, Phyllis; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Diane; two grandchildren, Renee and her husband, Mark Haynes, and Jeffrey Shattuck; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Keith, and Sarah Haynes.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the elevator fund of St. George's Episcopal Church.

Alma Grant
HAZEN -- Alma M. Grant, 64, Hazen, died Nov. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. David Suelzle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. MST today at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Alma was born Dec. 16, 1932, north of Zap, the daughter of Jacob and Hella (Walz) Weigum. She was raised and attended rural school north of Zap. On Feb. 28, 1952, she married Kenneth Grant at Beulah. She worked at the RCU Store in Beulah for a time. In July 1955, they moved to Hazen. Alma worked as a nurses aide at the Hazen Memorial Hospital from 1958 until 1975.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, yard work, bowling and crocheting. Alma loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Ken; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Wendy Grant, Hazen; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bruce Lee, Hazen; seven grandchildren, Dustin and Heather Grant, Thomas, Taylor and Terence Lee, and Ty and Alex Grant; two sisters, Delores Sailer and Naomi Pachl, both of Beulah; four brothers, Gilbert Weigum, Harold Weigum, Marvin Weigum and Dale Weigum, all of Zap; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Timothy. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen)

Ruth Kludt
MCCLUSKY -- Ruth Mae Kludt, 64, McClusky, died Nov. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at United Methodist Church, McClusky. Burial will be in McClusky City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Ruth Mae Kessler was born on June 5, 1933, on the family farm south of Anamoose. She attended elementary school in Martin. The family then moved to a farm near McClusky. She graduated from McClusky High School in 1951. She married Kermit Kludt on Oct. 24, 1952 in McClusky. They have since lived in McClusky where she was co-owner of Sheridan County Abstract Co., and worked alongside her husband with the Independent Oil Brokers Association. She retired in 1995.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, McClusky.

She is survived by her husband, Kermit; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John and Shannon, Hettinger; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Troy Niehaus, Spearfish, S.D.; two grandsons, Nicholas Benjamin and Samuel Aaron Kludt; two brothers, Rueben Kessler, Billings, Mont., and Alvin Kessler, Enumclaw, Wash., and four sisters, Esther Radke, Underwood, Velma Janke, Minot, Rose Koenig, Underwood, and Helen Rogness, Hemet, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elmer and Jack; and one sister, Florence Kessler. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky)

Leslie Roth
GLEN ULLIN -- Leslie Roth, 67, Glen Ullin died Nov. 10, 1997. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST at Sacred Heart Church, Glen Ullin. Burial will be in Glen Ullin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and for one hour prior to services at the church. A prayer service will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Leslie was raised south of Glen Ullin and educated at the Heart Butte School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954. He returned to the area where he met Joanne Wahl. On May 1, 1955, they were married in Elgin. Following their marriage, their life's work was farming and ranching southwest of Glen Ullin.

He was a lover of horses and enjoyed watching the horses run.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; two daughters and one son-in-law, Glenda and Steve Weiss, Grand Forks, and RaNelle Anderson, Bismarck; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Leslie Jr. and Linda, Glen Ullin, and Rory, and Rick and Suzette, all of Bismarck; six grandchildren, Misty, Ross, Kyle, Breanna, Taylor and Eric; one brother, Gordon, Glenwood, Wash.; and two sisters, Delores Ritchey, Lynwood, Wash., and Nyla Ulmer, Elgin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Melvin; and one brother, Wilbert. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

Oswald Berg
Oswald H. Berg, 81, Bismarck, died Nov. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Robert Feeney officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post.

Visitation will be from noon- 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a vigil said at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Oswald was born May 13, 1916 in Hurdsfield. He was the son of Olaf and Hilborg Berg. Oswald was raised and educated in Hurdsfield, graduating from Hurdsfield High School. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving his country from June 15, 1941, until Nov. 25, 1944. He married Ermalinda Helton on Jan. 25, 1945, in Hurdsfield. He worked for the U.S. Game and Fish Department in New Salem in the predator control department.

He is survived by two sons, Robert, Florida, and Oswald R. Jr., Fargo; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Dennis Hilfer, Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren; three great-granchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Harry and Theresa, Bismarck, and Clifford, Hurdsfield; and two sisters, Jordis Wangen, California, and Inga Wangen, Velva.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ermalinda, who died Dec. 2, 1995. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Thomas Bickler
Thomas L. Bickler, 62, 1019 Porter Ave. No. 104, Bismarck, died Nov. 10, 1997, at his home. Services will be held at noon Wednesday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation is ongoing at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight.

He was born July 31, 1935, in Halliday, the son of John and Katherine (Evinger) Bickler. He was raised and educated in Halliday, and graduated from the Assumption Abbey in Richardton. He graduated from Bismarck Junior College. Tom was employed with Montana Dakota Utilities from 1967 until 1994 when he retired.

He is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Georgella and Donald R. Wolf, and Charlotte Asplund, all of Bismarck; three nieces, Kelly Wachter, Pamela Wolf and DeAndra Asplund, all of Bismarck; and two nephews, Don J. Wolf, Bismarck, and Jon Asplund, Tri-Cities, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law.

Memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Mary.

Hannah Leapoldt
JAMESTOWN -- Hannah M. Leapoldt, 86, Jamestown, died Nov. 9, 1997, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; four sons, LeRoy, Westminster, Colo., Leonard, Frederick, Colo., John, Thornton, Colo., and James, Boulder, Colo.; two daughters, Beatrice Robertson, Burlington, Iowa, and Patricia Buchholz, Stanwood, Wash.; three brothers, Edward and Arthur Ulrich, both of Dickinson, and Norman, Fingal; and three sisters, Gertrude Guenther and Eunice Peda, both of Jamestown, and Beatrice Patzer, Marshall, Minn. Myron Anderson
JAMESTOWN -- Myron E. Anderson, 80, Jamestown, died Nov. 9, 1997, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Jean Quine, Chevy Chase, Md., and Barbara Tillemans, St. Cloud, Minn.; and one brother, Wallace, Cambridge, Minn. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Lillian Dvorak
DICKINSON -- Lillian E. Dvorak, 85, Dickinson, died Nov. 9, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; one sister, Mary Semerad, Dickinson; and two brothers, Charles Kadrmas, Dickinson, and Laudie Kadrmas, Manning. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home)

Elsie Meyers
Elsie Meyers, 84, Lakehead, Calif., died Nov. 6, 1997, in a Redding, Calif., hospital. Services will be held Nov. 14, 1997, in Orange County, Calif. Burial will be in San Gabriel Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Victor, Lakehead, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Garner, Tustin, Calif., and Pat Meyers, Provo, Utah; and one sister, Ethel Tosseth, Wilton.

Samanth Hilsendeger
FARGO -- Samanth Hope Hilsendeger, 2, Fargo, died Nov. 6, 1997, in a Fargo hospital. Services were held Sunday at Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.
