June Thompson
June Thompson, 80, 417 1/2 East Broadway Ave., died June 16, 2000 at her home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. A private family burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery. A family gathering will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. June was born Dec. 31, 1919 in McGregor, the daughter of Evald and Caroline (Ryan) Forsgren. She was raised and educated in McGregor and Noonan, and graduated in 1941 from North Dakota Agricultural College, Fargo, with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics education. She taught at Aneta and Williston before marrying James Mark Thompson, Selz, in 1944. They settled in Bismarck in 1946 and bought Sioux Sporting Goods in 1953. June helped Jim build the business, directing all advertising, display, camping and outdoor wear until the two closed and store and retired in 1998. June was honored to have served on the following civic and community boards: Sakakawea Girl Scout Council, Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra, Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business Women, Bismarck-Mandan Development Association, Downtowners, Vision Fund, Crime Stoppers and Bismarck City Forestry. June was the first woman to serve on a Bismarck bank board of directors at Norwest Bank. An avid downtown booster, she spearheaded the first few Bismarck Downtown Street Fairs, starting in 1974 and advised its leaders for 15 years. She helped promote the activities and goals of Sports Incorporated, a buying group of independent sporting goods retailers, that now numbers more than 300 stores in 48 states. For several years, she served as a member of the nominating committee for the Sierra Club's national board of directors. She is survived by her husband, James; her daughter, Karen, Buffalo, Minn.; one son, Ryan; daughter-in-law, Kathleen, and brotherr, F. Leslie "Bud" Forsgren, Crosby. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family prefers memorials to the Bismarck-Mandan Abused Adult Resource Center. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

DODGE -- Sidney Tschaekofske, 54, Lodge Grass, Mont., and formerly of rural Dodge, died June 17, 2000 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Bowman. Arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Alice Erman
NEW ROCKFORD -- Alice Erman, 69, New Rockford and formerly of McHenry, died June 17, 2000 in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Lutheran Church, New Rockford, with burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford. She is survived by one son, Grant, McHenry; three daughters, Darcy Erman, Fargo, Jill Kratcha, Langdon, and Candice Grilley, Warwick; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Arnold Gjestvang, Washburn, Delvaine Gjestvang, New Rockford, and Marlyn Gjestvangk, Westminster, Colo.; and three sisters, Viola Gisi, Gladys Carlson and Luann Johnson, all of New Rockford. Randy E. Kindsfater
BELFIELD -- Randy E. Kindsfater, 21, Rapid City, S.D., and formerly of Belfield, died June 17, 2000 in Rapid City. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Belfield. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

George V. Kopp
George V. Kopp, 74, rural Mandan, died June 17, 2000, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. A parish vigil will be held at 7 tonight at the funeral home, followed by a rosary at 8 p.m. George was born on the family homestead farm in rural Mandan on May 13, 1926, the son of Stanley and Caroline (Barth) Kopp. He was raised and educated in rural Mandan. George married Florence Boehm on Sept. 24, 1951, in New Salem. George started farming on his own at the age of 16 and continued to on the homestead farm until the present, raising grain and cattle. George enjoyed working the land, he loved seeding and plowing, combining and most of all he loved cutting hay. Through his busy schedule he always found time for family. He enjoyed going to little league games and wanted to live to see his grandchildren grow up. He liked to play jokes and had a great sense of humor. He would always say that "If his family was happy, so was he." George also felt that faith was important and that Sunday Mass was a must. He took time for recreation where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and was always ready for a game of pinochle. He is survived by his wife, Florence; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Kelly and Judy, Kelvin and Betty, Tom and Sonya, and Greg and special friend Rhonda Lawyer, all of Mandan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margo and Andrew Stroh, Cindy and Kelly Nickel, and Brenda and Douglas Peterson, all of Mandan; 16 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandchild; one brother, Leo Kopp, Mandan; one sister, Barbara Ereth, Mandan; one brother-in-law, Florian Frank; and one sister-in-law, Agnes Kopp, Mandan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Caroline Kopp, one brother, Anton Kopp; and four sisters, Eva Kopp, Maggie Frank, Louise Chasson and Lisa Kopp. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Leo R. Lanz
Leo R. Lanz, 68, 104 W. Antelope St., Mandan, died June 16, 2000, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Feeney officiating, with full committal services at North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. Leo was born on Nov. 15, 1931, in St. Anthony, the son of Michael J. and Magdalena (Helbling) Lanz. He was raised and educated in Mandan. Leo graduated from Mandan High School in 1948 and joined the Army. Leo's military career in the U.S. Army ran from 1948 to 1970 when he retired as a sergeant first class. During his time in the military he served as a chemical warfare specialist serving in Korea from 1950 to 1953 and Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. He married Shirley Fitzsimmons in Colorado. He then married Nam-Sun Lee in 1969 in Korea. He continued to live in Korea until 1973, when he and his family moved to Mandan, where he lived since and during which time he was an insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha. He enjoyed fishing, playing pinochle and having his family around. He is survived by his wife, Nam-Sun, Mandan; two sons, Sung-Su and his wife, Young-Ae Lanz, Bismarck, and James Lanz, Colorado; twin daughters, Jane and Janice, Colorado; three grandchildren, Tina, Sophie and Jeff Lanz; one sister, Josephine Meyers, Lebec, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Magdalena; six brothers and six sisters. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Elias J. Nagel
Elias J. Nagel, 55, Bismarck, died June 18, 2000 at the home of his sister, surrounded by family. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, both at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Elias was born on Feb. 16, 1945 on the family farm, rural Strasburg, the son of Elias E. and Mary (Reinbold) Nagel. As a child, he moved to Bismarck with his family in October 1949. He attended schools in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School. Following graduation, Elias worked for Benson's Optical, Medcenter One and Norwest Bank. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and the Bismarck Eagles. He enjoyed leather crafts, bowling, playing cards and traveling. Elias enjoyed being with his family. He was a very caring person who especially loved his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Elias is survived by four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Henry Richter, Whaneta and Clement Gerhardt, all of Bismarck, Mary Ann and Duane Seibel, Sacramento, Claif., and Arlene Zumkehr, Redding, Calif.; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Edwin and Johanna, and Joyce Nagel-Anderson, all of Bismarck; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ted; one great nephew, Scotty Meidinger, and one brother-in-law, Robert Zumkehr. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Stephen Richards
JAMESTOWN -- Stephen Richards, 81, Jamestown, died June 17, 2000 in a Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at The Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown. He is survived by his wife, Kay; two sons, Stephen, Jamestown, and James, Costa Mesa, Calif.; one daughter, Joan Miller, Midland, Mich.; a twin brother, John C., Atherton, Calif.; and one grandson. Harold Schmid
BARLOW -- Harold Schmid, 82, Barlow, died June 17, 2000 in the Carrington health center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Federated Church, Carrington. Burial will be in Barlow Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Edna; four stepchildren, Caryle Elgorriaga, Tucson, Ariz., Daniel Linderman, Minneapolis, Wendell Linderman, Barlow, and Mark Linderman, Okeene, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Duane Schmid, Barlow, Donald Schmid, Jamestown. Henry H. Solberg
Henry H. Solberg, 92, died June 17, 2000 in a local nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. He was born Dec. 30, 1907 in Bismarck, the son of Hugo and Laura "Lilly" (Chamberlain) Solberg. He was raised and educated in Naughton Township. Henry, along with his brother, Phillip, owned and operated the Allenwood Ranch, raising registered Angus cattle. They continued until retirement in April 1985. Henry enjoyed dancing, collecting and polishing rocks and gardening. He had a great appreciation for art and was an avid reader. He was a member of the North Dakota Stockman's Association, Eagles, Farmers Union and other farm organizations, Burleigh County Pioneers Association, Three Crowns Swedish Association, Lapidary Society, and different dance clubs. Henry will be remembered for his love of people, his appreciation of nature, and his generosity. He is survived by one brother, Harvey, Palo Alto, Calif.; two nephews, Jeffrey and Peter Solberg; and numerous cousins. Henry was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip in 1992. Randy E. Kindsfater
BELFIELD -- Randy E. Kindsfater, 21, Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Belfield, died June 17, 2000, in his home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Belfield. He is survived by his father, Ralph Kindsfater, Rapid City; his mother, Marilyn Kessel, Rapid City; his brother, Steven, Sturgis, S.D., Michael, Belfield, and Kortney, Belfield; and his grandmother, Charla Mitchell, Spearfish, S.D. Marion Knight
Marion Knight, 82, Park City, Mont., formerly of Reeder, died June 17, 2000, in Billings, Mont. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, New England. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Allen W. Richter
VALLEY CITY -- Allen W. Richter, 57, Valley City, died June 18, 2000, in the Valley City hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City, with the Rev. Steve Ose officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Valley City. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Allen Wayne Richter was born Dec. 21, 1942, in Fort Yates, the son of Otto and Mary (Bollinger) Richter. He attended school in Hazen, and later moved to Bismarck, where he graduated from Bismarck High School in 1960. Allen married Sandra Knudsen in 1963. He received his bachelor of arts degree in music from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D. Allen then taught music at Butte and Orchard, Neb., and later attained his masters degree from Kearney State, Kearney, Neb. He taught at Newton, Iowa, and from 1981-1983, taught at McClusky. Allen was united in marriage to phyllis Fuhrman on Aug. 20, 1983, in Fessenden. They made their home in Valley City and for the last 15 years he has worked with Valley Graphics. He liked to hunt and fish. He also liked working with stained glass. Allen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in which he had been a choir member for the last 17 years, and also had served on the church council. He was a member of The Valley Troubadours and had served as their director for the last five years. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lisa, Woodbury, Minn.; one daughter, Heather Quaid, Columbus, Neb.; four grandchildren, Joshua Richter, Samantha Richter, Keirsten Farley and Danielle Quaid; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anita and Dick Wilkens, Bismarck, and Marlene and Roger Bischoff, Valley City. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Oscar Fuhrman, Bowdon; two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Barb and Jon Alexander, Florence, S.C., and Karen and Dan Morrison, Robinson; one brother-in-law and his wife, Glen and Diana Fuhrman, Enderlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Heath.

NAPOLEON -- Clara Roth, 88, Napoleon, died June 19, 2000, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by four sons, Jack, Kintyre, Melvin, Omaha, James, Napoleon, and William, Spring, Texas; two daughters, Geraldine Roth, Minneapolis, and Kay Bell, Fairbault, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Beneta Kinonen and Freda Sunde. He is survived by two daughters, Carmen Paulson, Maddock, and Shirley Midstokke, Everett, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nine step-great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lillian Helgeson, Minot, Alice Geobel, Des Lacs, and Alvilda Maas, St. Paul, Minn. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Tschaekofske, Dodge; one son, John, Killdeer; one grandson; his common law wife, Jeanie Good Bear, Killdeer; and four sisters, Joyce Bazoff, Asheville, N.C., Joann Conradson, Coon Rapids, Minn., Naomi Karlin, Williston, and Miriam Howard, Portland, Texas.
