GRASSY BUTTE -- Helen Zakopayko, 74, Grassy Butte, died Feb. 7, 2001, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Monday at Grassy Butte Community Center, with burial in Grassy Butte Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Monte, Williston; two brothers, Ernest Akovenko, Grassy Butte, and Jack Akovenko, Watford City; and five sisters, Alice Franchuk, Dickinson, Ann Nichenko, Portland, Ore., Lena Thorgramson, Helena, Mont., Emma Prokop, Three Forks, Mont., and Dorothy Jones, Tomah, Wis. Norman Adams
WILTON -- Norman Adams, 63, Scappoose, Ore., formerly of Wilton, died Feb. 8, 2001, in a Longview, Wash. hospice home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Scappoose Grace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Judith; two sons, Lauren, Scappoose, and Steven, Portland, Ore.; one sister, Doris Johnson, Casper, Wyo.; two step-brothers, Darrell and Virgil Grenz; and four granddaughters. Harold Leonard Burau
WILLISTON -- Harold Leonard Burau, 90, Williston, died Feb. 8, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus, with burial in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Claire; one son, Craig, Fargo; one daughter, JoAnne Colebank, Williston; one sister, Helen Wagner, Bismarck; one brother, Gordon, Larson; and three grandchildren. Patricia Ebeltoft
RICHARDTON -- Patricia (Zent) Ebeltoft, 49, 11 Captain Leach Drive, Mandan, formerly of Lefor, died Feb. 8, 2001, in Rochester, Minn., after suffering 7 months with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Tuesday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, south of Richardton, with the Rev. Brian Wangler officiating. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue at the church one hour before services. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pat was born Dec. 28, 1951, in Dickinson, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Koenig) Zent. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Richardton, and from Assumption Abbey College in Richardton. Pat married William "Bill" Ebeltoft in May 1975. She was employed with the State Highway Department anda then the Fad Clothing Store. Pat owned and operated a daycare with her sister, Nancy, for 13 years (Happy Day Childcare). Pat loved the children she cared for like a second mother. She then worked at Northern Reflections at Kirkwood Mall in Bismarck, making many new friends. Pat spent many hours crafting, making treasures for all her family and numerous friends. She loved playing cribbage, tending her flower beds and traveling with Ronald. During her illness, she acquired an interest in Creative Memories. She spent many happy hours working with her nieces on her hobby. Pat is survived by her mother, Katherine, Lefor; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Larry Hartman, Dickinson; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Gini, Dickinson, Dick and Jeanette, Lefor, Jack and Diane, Washburn, and Duane and Karen, Lefor; 12 nieces; seven nephews; three grand-nieces; three grand-nephews; and a very special friend, Ronald Knight, Mandan. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph; her brother-in-law, Maurice Hamann; three aunts; two uncles; and her grandparents.

Jean Ehrmantrout
ELGIN -- A service of remembrance for Jean Ehrmantrout, 75, Elgin, will be held at 2 p.m. MST Monday at Assembly of God in Elgin, with the Rev. John Osborne officiating. Jean died Feb. 8, 2001, in the Elgin hospital. Jean Ehrmantrout was born May 12, 1925, at Almont, the daughter of Martin and Pearl (Eckroth). She was raised at Almont and graduated from high school there. She attended Dickinson State College and received her bachelors degree in education. She taught rural schools in the Glen Ullin area, and there she met her husband-to-be, Anthony "Tony" Ehrmantrout. They were married in Richmond, Va. on March 23, 1946, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. Jean and Tony began farming and ranching north of Elgin near the Heart River, and raised their daughter, DoLores Kay there. Jean continued her teaching career in the Glen Ullin area and at Elgin, as well as helping on the ranch. She took particular pride in her yard and garden. She was also an accomplished artist and eventually operated her own studio at the ranch, and taught art classes in the area. She was active in the North Dakota Cattle Women's Association and served the organization as president of District VI. She took particular pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean was a member of Elgin Assembly of God Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She served on the Jacobson Memorial Hospital Board for several terms. Grateful for sharing her life are her husband, Anthony Ehrmantrout, Elgin; one son-in-law, Gary Meyer, Elgin; three grandsons, Chet and his wife, Debby Meyer, Tulsa, Okla., Carlos Meyer, Mandan, and Marty Meyer, Elgin; three great-grandchildren, Trey, Cheyanne and Kaylee Meyer; and one sister, Arlene Thorpe, San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by her daughter, DoLores K. Meyer, in 1999; her parents; and one brother, Devere Wohlman. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Assembly of God Missions and Immanuel Christian School. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

LODGEPOLE, S.D. -- Frances LeFebre, 86, Lodgepole, died Feb. 8, 2001, in the Hettinger care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday at Holland Center Christian Reformed Church, rural Lodgepole, with burial in Holland Center Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Gary, Lodgepole; one daughter, Sylvia Hancock, Rocky Ford, Colo.; and two grandchildren. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger)

HARVEY -- Elizabeth Lockrem, 74, Harvey, died Feb. 9, 2001, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at FIrst Lutheran Church, Harvey, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; two sisters, Frances Hirschkorn, Harvey, and Adeline Winter, Goodrich; and three brothers, Adam Kline, Harvey, Tony Kline, Jamestown, and John, Anamosa, Iowa. Marian Miller, 72, Bismarck Baptist Home, died Feb. 10, 2001, in the care center. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Idella F. Schatz
UNDERWOOD -- Idella F. Schatz, 66, Underwood, died Feb. 9, 2001, in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood, with the Rev. Jeanine Kersey-Russell officiating. Burial will be in Underwood Cemetery. Casketbearers will be family and friends of Idella's. Honorary casketbearers will be the staff of Prairieview Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Idella Faye Schatz was born May 24, 1934, at Washburn, to Karl and Elda (Schell) Schatz. She was raised in Underwood where she attended school. She worked for a number of years at the Underwood Hotel. She later moved to Bismarck where she worked as a cook for St. Alexius Hospital. She also worked as a cook for the Drumstick Cafe and the former Holiday Inn restaurant. Idella entered Prairieview Nursing Home in October 1989. She was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck. She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Berle and Sherry Schatz, Vernal, Utah, and Rick and Kathleen Schatz, Kilgore, Texas; one brother-in-law, Hubert Holtan, Underwood; one sister-in-law, Sharon Schell, Underwood; her aunts, Edna Halvorson, Underwood, and Mabel Jesser, Garrison; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lewellyn Schell; two sisters, Claudia Holtan and Shirley Six; and one brother-in-law, Tom Six.

WISHEK -- Katharina Thurn, 99, Wishek, died Feb. 10, 2001, in the Wishek nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek.

Verna Wirtz, 50, 1002 N. Second St., died Feb. 9, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after an extended illness. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joel Scherer officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery, Lane, S.D. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Verna was born Aug. 16, 1950, at Huron, S.D., the daughter of Walter Martin and Erna Pauline (Garbe) Lang. She was raised and educated in Huron and Mitchell,S.D., graduating from Huron High School in 1968. She married Robert Wirtz on Feb. 24, 1978. They resided in Bismarck. Verna enjoyed gardening and loved to help her friends and family, being generous to all with her time. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her mother, Erna Lang Hlavacek, Bismarck; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Richard Demlo, Alamosa, Colo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester and Darlene Lang, Algonquin, Ill., and Dale and Mary Jo Lang, Mesa, Ariz.; five nieces, Dorinda Lang, Kimberly Worthington, Lara Demlo, Stephanie and Nicole Lang; and eight nephews, Steven, James, Richard, Scott, Duard, Marty, David and Michael Lang. Verna was preceded in death by her father, Walter; her stepfather, Jess Hlavacek; one brother, Durward; and an infant brother, Albert. The family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society.

Erwine Zimmerman
Erwine Zimmerman, 71, Bismarck, died Feb. 9, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Franko officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Erwine was born Aug. 12, 1929, at Glen Ullin, the son of Henry and Margaret (Kost) Zimmerman. He was raised and educated at Glen Ullin. On Nov. 11, 1949, he joined the U.S. Army and served until Aug. 19, 1952. He was in the 25th Division, Quartermaster Co. First Platoon. He married Florence Metzger on Aug. 15, 1953. They lived in North Dakota until 1959, then moved to Deadwood, S.D. In 1969, they moved to Rapid City, S.D. In 1993, they moved back to Bismarck. Erwine loved animals, especially horses, and felt that animals should never be mistreated. He enjoyed the wide-open spaces and loved going for drives with Florence. He paid attention to the crops and how different fields would start to be ripening. His appreciation for the west carried through to his love for Zane Grey novels and John Wayne movies. He liked a good game of cards, especially pinochle, and playing Yatzee. Erwine was a quiet man and was known as a good listener who loved many people. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Florence; his three sisters-in-law, Esther, Olga and Caroline Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Zimmerman; four brothers, Edwin, Arthur, Carl and John; one sister, Ella Verworn; one brother-in-law, Gottfried Verworn; and one sister-in-law, Alvina Zimmerman.

CARRINGTON -- Louise Cousins, 94, Carrington, died Feb. 9, 2001, in a Carrington care center. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, with burial in Carrington Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; two sons, Thomas Jr., Roundup, Mont., and John, Tucson, Ariz.; three daughters, Mary Klein, Sacramento, Calif., Sheila Cousins, Billings, Mont., and Colleen Holum, Indio, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Clements, San Francisco, Calif.
