Arthur W. Nelson, 87, Mandan, died June 24, 2000, in the Mandan care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Beuhler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Paul Owens
Paul Owens, 55, Bismarck, died June 21, 2000, in his home. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jake Kincaid officiating. Paul was born Dec. 25, 1944, in Cumberland, Md. After growing up near Philadelphia, he received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Michigan in 1971 and a master's degree from Morehead State in Kentucky in 1982. In 1975, Paul married Sally Dilworth in West Virginia. He worked for Appalachian Power before moving to Bismarck in 1985. Paul worked for Montana Dakota Utilities in Bismarck, and was the human resources manager at the time of his death. Paul also gave much of his time serving on committees at First Presbyterian Church. He loved spending time at the ocean and working in his garden. He was also a great bridge player. His intelligence, straightforwardness and sense of humor are unforgettable. He is survived by his children, Dan and Lauren; one brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Nancy Owens, Delaware; several aunts and cousins; and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Phillip; and his wife, Sally. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Presbyterian Church. (Boelter Funeral Home)

Emil A. Seeger
Emil A. Seeger, 96, Terrace Retirement Home, Bismarck, died June 23, 2000, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Todd Hylden officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Monday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Emil A. Seeger was born Oct. 13, 1903, at Blue Grass. He was the son of John J. and Katherine (Bickel) Seeger. Emil was raised and educated in the New Salem community. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in commerce in 1925. After graduation he returned to New Salem as an employee at the local bank. Following his tenure at the bank, he moved to Minot where he served as an accountant and clerk for four years at the Leland Parker Hotel. After holding several accounting positions in Minot until 1942, he moved to Williston where he was employed by the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. In 1947, he moved to Bismarck where he was an accountant for the Bureau of Reclamation until he retired in 1965. Emil married Alpha V. Anderson of Minot in 1932. He enjoyed sports and took pride in his pool and bowling games. He was a faithful supporter of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Anne Carlson School in Jamestown, the Boys Ranch in Minot, the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center and the Bismarck Senior Center. He is survived by his son, Larry, San Jose, Calif., who is an intelligence analyst for the Department of Defense and adjunct professor in management with Saint Mary's College of California; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alpha, who died in 1968; five sisters; two brothers; and his daughter-in-law, June. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to The Terrace, 901 E. Bowen Ave., Bismarck, N.D. 58501.

Edgar J. Stegmeier
Edgar J. Stegmeier, 61, 1308 19th St. S.E., Mandan, died June 24, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Earl Swanston
MOTT -- Earl Swanston, 84, Mott, died June 24, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ireta; three daughters, Coleetta Luchsinger, New Salem, Pat Weiman, Portland, Ore., and Terrie Swanston, New Salem; one son, Curtis, Bismarck; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four step-children, Gene Diehl, Fremont, Ind., John Diehl, Orland, Ind., Janice Stranger, Belton, S.C., and Marcia Colbart, Angola, Ind.; 18 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Albert, McIntosh, S.D. Barbara Dockter
Barbara Dockter, 62, Bismarck, formerly of Linton, died June 23, 2000, in her home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Linton, with the Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating. Burial will be in Linton Cemetery Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Barbara was born in Strasburg, the daughter of Melchior and Margaret (Hilzendeger) Kraft. She was raised and educated in Strasburg. On June 3, 1957, she married Wallace G. Dockter in Strasburg and they made their home in Linton. There she worked at the ASCS office for 25 years. She helped her husband, Wally, and brother-in-law, Dean, with Dockter's Jack & Jill from 1967 to 1990. She moved to Bismarck where she worked for the Golden Age Service and Burleith County Service Center. Barbara's hobbies were working with the elderly, crafts, dancing, baking and going to their cabin at the river on Beaver Bay. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Jerry Gall, Bismarck, and Rhonda and Craig Peterson, Moorhead, Minn.; one brother, Sebastian Kraft; six sisters, Whitey Wohl, Phyllis Fischer, Rose Rohrich, Clara Deringer, Eva Heilman and Jenny Malsom; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace; five brothers and three sisters.

Joseph J. Dorscher
Joseph J. Dorscher, 60, 8751 93rd Street S.E., Bismarck, died June 21, 2000, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Joseph was born June 28, 1939, at Linton, to Joseph and Julia (Paul) Dorscher. He was raised and educated in Linton. When he was 15, his family moved to Bismarck. He married Cindy Knock in Bismarck. He then worked for Bismarck Implement as a truck driver for 27 years. He married Vianna Crawford on Nov. 28, 1975, in Bismarck. He owned and operated Dorscher Sandblasting. Joseph enjoyed fishing and participated in several Governor's Cups in North Dakota and Saskatchewan. He also sponsored area race cars and participated as a fan. He is survived by his wife, Vianna; his mother, Julia Dorscher, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lauri and Glenn Stevens, New Bury, Mass., and Julie and Eric Folendorf, Lincoln; three sons, Barry Dorscher, Seoul, Korea, and James and Jason Nelson both of Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Evelyn Dorscher, Mesa, Ariz., Edward and Pat Dorscher, Milwaukee, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and his special fishing buddy, Mel Berkland. Joseph was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; his brother, Ray; and his sister, Darlene. The family prefers memorials to the Salvation Army and the Child's Hope Learning Center.

LEMMON -- Virginia Farstad, 80, Watauga, S.D., died June 24, 2000, in the Lemmon, S.D. nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon.

Emil Hendricks
HAYNES -- Emil Hendricks, 55, Billings, Mont., formerly of Haynes, died June 24, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hettinger, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery. He is survived by three sons, Tim, Belfield, Daryl, Casper, Wyo., and Steve, Billings; three daughters, Annette Hendricks, Rapid City, S.D., Jackie Hayford, Valentine, Neb., and Cheryl Stiller, Casper, Wyo.; two brothers, Edward, Bismarck, and Elmer, Billings; and four sisters, Dorothy Osborne, Billings, Helen Kruper, Coon Rapids, Minn., Lila Maier, Sacramento, Calif., and Doris Lee, Hettinger; and 12 grandchildren. Arthur W. Nelson
Arthur W. Nelson, 87, Mandan, died June 24, 2000, in the Mandan care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Paul D. Fiske officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be no visitation at the church. Arthur Nelson was born Aug. 2, 1912, at rural Mandan, the son of Albin and Jenny (Lindgren) Nelson. He married Rose P. Hegel on Oct. 16, 1940, in Glendive, Mont. They lived south of Judson where he was in the trucking business for five years and then on a farm south of Mandan for 20 years. They lived in Robinson for three years before moving to Mandan in 1968, where he worked road construction until he retired at the age of 70. Art and Rose celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 16, 1990, at the Mandan Eagles, where he had been a member for 49 years. He is survived by six daughters, Virginia Felix and Kathleen Kriesel, both of Aberdeen, S.D., Violet Olhauser, El Cahon, Calif., Alice Radke, Maplewood, Minn., Leela Villorente, Portsmouth, Va., and Marikay Nelson, Mandan; nine sons, William, Delton, Donald, Clemens, Marvin and Melvin, all of Mandan, Wayne, Lino Lakes, Minn., Robert, Cottage Grove, Minn., and Rodney, Marana, Ariz.; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Rask, Mandan; and one brother, Enger Nelson, Helena, Mont. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose, who died on May 10, 1991; and two brothers, Roy and Alex Nelson.

Philomine A. Novotny
DICKINSON -- Philomine A. Novotny, 83, Dickinson, died June 23, 2000, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson. She is survived by one son, Edwin, Dickinson; three daughters, Adeline York, Bethany, Okla., Arlene Traylor, Valley, Ala., and Carol Martin, Blue Springs, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Samek, Eugene, Ore. Edgar J. Stegmeier
Edgar J. Stegmeier, 61, 1308 19th St. S.E., Mandan, died June 24, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with Deacon Dave Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with North Dakota National Guard providing the Honor Guard. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Edgar was born Oct. 2, 1938, in Carrington, the son of Edgar S. and Bertha (Meidinger) Stegmeier. He was raised and educated in Melville and graduated from Carrington High School. Edgar married Arlene Nysted in Carrington, and on Dec. 29, 1979, he married Cheryl Morgan in Valley City. Edgar was a member of the National Guard for 38 years and was currently working in the North Dakota Department of Emergency Management. Edgar was a dependable person who was a member of the Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars. His hobbies included wood working and collecting model cars and trucks, and he loved to cook. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and enjoyed playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; three sons and their spouses, Grant, St. Paul, Minn., Craig and Cindy (Wetsch) Stegmeier and their children, Alexis and Jacob, Marion, Iowa, and Josh and Lisa (Stelter) Morgan and their children, Taylor, Lucas and Jacob, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; three daughters and their spouses, Dan and Sarah (Morgan) Tarver, Aberdeen, S.D., Brenda and Eric Hewitt, along with their child, Braxton, Carrington, and Jessie Stegmeier, Mandan; one brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Karen, Springville, Utah; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sylvia Lapakko, St. Paul, Minn., and Maxine and Bill Healy, Phoenix; and his nieces and nephews, Mandy and Will Healy, and Dana and David Stegmeier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Bertha Stegmeier; one son, Timothy Stegmeier; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Albert and Marie Thilmony; and one brother, David Stegmeier.

Earl Swanston
MOTT -- Services for Earl Swanston, 84, Mott, will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott. Special music will be provided by Pat Schwartz, organist, and David Crane, soloist. Serving as casketbearers are Gary and Dean Friedt, Danny Koppinger, Darrell Mortenson, Jay Colbart and Jim Haller. All grandchildren and friends are considered honorary bearers. A memorial has been established. Earl Swanston was born Feb. 28, 1916, the son of Adolph and Jennie (Sandbeck) Swanston in Highland Township, Hettinger County, on his mother's homestead. He was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Messer on Nov. 4, 1941, at the St. Placidus Church north of Mott. To this union were born three daughters, Coleetta, Pat, Terrie, and a son, Curtis. Earl spent his entire life in Highland Township. Wilhelmina passed away on July 8, 1982. On April 18, 1986, Earl was united in marriage to Ireta (Pierce) Diehl in Angola, Ind. Since that time they have resided north of Mott on his farm. Earl enjoyed reading Louis Lamore and Zane Grey books, traveling, woodworking, and working on the farm. He was a township chairman of township officers for 45 years, and held various offices in the state. He passed from this life on June 24, 2000, at his home near Mott at the age of 84 years, three months and 26 days. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ireta; one son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Darlene Swanston, Bismarck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Coleetta and Lyle Luchingser, Solen, Pat and Bill Weiman, Portland, Ore., and Terrie Swanston, New Salem; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four stepchildren, Gene Deihl and his wife, Diane, Fremont, Ind., John Diehl and his wife, Jacque, Orland, Ind., Janice and her husband, Barry Stange, Belton, S.C., and Marcia and her husband, Jay Colbart, Angola, Ind.; 18 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert, McIntosh, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Harold and Benny Swanston. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Tuesday and 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
