Donald W. Sauer
Donald W. Sauer Sr., 66, Java, S.D., died Nov. 10, 2000 in the Bowdle, S.D. hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his mother, Mathilda Sauer, Java; his wife, Helen Sauer, Java; two sons, Donald Sauer Jr., Mobridge, S.D., and Scott, Aberdeen, S.D.; two daughters, Debra Grothe, Fargo, and Kimberly Simon, Aberdeen; one brother, Raymond, West Columbia, Texas; and two sisters, Marilyn Bauman, Bismarck, and Velma Bonen, Bowdle, and five grandchildren. Lillian Strom
DICKINSON -- Lillian Strom, 85, Dickinson, formerly of Taylor, died Nov. 9, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday, at Taylor Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter, DIana Peterson, Barton Mills, England; one sister, Effie Voien, LaVerne, Calif. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Clara Thon
BEULAH -- Clara Thon, 89, Beulah, and formerly of Maddock, died Nov. 11, 2000 in a Beulah care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

Oma Ruth Westerlund
Oma Ruth Westerlund died Nov. 11, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tim Jenks officiating. She was born icon to George and Kate Bailey on Sept. 21, 1916. After her mother's death, she was adopted by Peter and Mabel Olson and was raised and educated in Chicago schools. Oma was deft in mathematics and received a national award from President Hoover, which was placed in the Emerson Elementary School's cornerstone. She married icon George Culver in 1938 and they lived in Chicago, where they owned and operated a grocery store. They later moved to Dodgeville, Wis., and Oma raised a foster child, Nancy, until age four. George died in 1945. Moving back to Chicago, she married icon Andrew Westerlund in 1948. Oma was personnel manager for Union Linen until her retirement. In 1982, she and Andrew moved to Bismarck, where her sister and family were located. She and Andy were actively involved in the growing years of Susan's daughter, Melissa and Stephanie's son, Shane. Andy died in 1986. To become reacquainted with the area, she joined the Senior Center, where she averaged 500 volunteer hours per year since 1994. She worked in the gift shop, put together the Senior Sentinel Newsletter, and acted as a greeter among other responsibilities. Oma was honored as the Senior Volunteer of the Year in 1999 by the Zonta Club and rode in the Folkfest Parade. She was also an active volunteer at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. A member of Bethel Lutheran Church, she enjoyed the members and activities of the church. Oma enjoyed living independently in her own home and appreciated support from Burleigh County Services to help her do this. Oma enjoyed creating needlepoint and staying active. Her ready smile will be remembered along with her love of children and a joy for life. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands and brother, Lowel Olson. Her surviving family is her sister, Evelyn Lundberg and brother Edwin Olson and wife, Marge, and sister-in-law, Audrey Olson, four nieces and their children, Susan Lundberg and her daughter, Melissa; Stephanie Delmore and her husband, Bill, and their sons, Cole and Shane Delmore; Pam Olson and her sons, Shawn and Eric and Debra Olson Frey and her children, Krystal and Nicholas; plus three nephews, Peter Olson and his wife, Carla, children, Stephen and Jacquelin; Rod Olson and his wife, LeAnn; and Matt Olson and his wife, Terri. Oma has many Bailey family members as well. Memorials may be sent to Bethel Lutheran Church.

CARSON -- Raymond Brinkman, 64, Carson, died Nov. 12, 2000 at his home. Memorial services are pending with Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig.

UNDERWOOD -- Greg Brorby, 48, Underwood, died Nov. 12, 2000 at his home. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Bessie Lorene Christiansen
Bessie Lorene Christiansen, 81, Renville, Minn., died Nov. 13, 2000 in a Willmar, Minn., hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, rural Renville, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Bruns, Renville, and Kathy Fuhrer, Bismarck; one sister, Bea Holton, Paris, Texas; one brother, Neal Edwards, Norman, Okla.; and five grandchildren. Walter E. Dahlstrom
JAMESTOWN -- Walter E. Dahlstrom, 100, Jamestown, died Nov. 13, 2000 in a Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at Eddy Funeral Home Chapel, Jamestown. Spring burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown. He is survived by two sons, Leland and Bill, both of Jamestown; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Magdalena Fischer
LINTON -- Magdalena "Maggie" Fischer, 81, Linton, died Nov. 13, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Helen Haseltine
Helen Haseltine, 82, Mandan, died Nov. 12, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at First Presbyterian Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Stephen D. Eastin officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Helen was born icon on Aug. 1, 1918 at Fort Rice, one of 13 children born icon to Peter and Margaret (Kary) Kolberg. Raised and educated in the area, she graduated from Bismarck High School and was employed by the Ellis Agency in Mandan. She worked in the Morton County Clerk of Court's office and retired as Clerk of Court in 1983. Helen was very fond of crafts and particularly enjoyed crocheting. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed crossword puzzles and cooking her specialties for friends and family. There was a special place in her heart for her only grandchild, Bailey. She is survived by her husband, Erwin; two sons, Stacy, Bismarck, and Robert and his wife, Beth, Fargo; one granddaughter, Bailey Haseltine; three sisters, Sally O'Neill and her husband, Owen, Mandan, Evelyn Schrum and Margaret Kolberg, both of California; one brother, Bill and his wife, Martha, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Haseltine; her brothers, Robert, Bernie, John and Frederick; and her sisters, Kathryn George and Elizabeth and Mary Kolberg. Ora Henderson, 92, Mandan, died Nov. 13, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Mandan Union Cemetery. Further arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Karen Jean Hoerer
HAZEN -- Karen Jean Hoerer, 53, Hazen, died Nov. 11, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. She is survived by her children, Terry, Bismarck, and Vicki Moran, Liberty Lake, Wash.; her parents, Leslie and Sylvia Peterson, Hannaford; two sisters, Dianne Hetland, Hannaford, and Ellen Moe, Dickinson; and eight grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Friese, Great Falls, Mont., and Arlyce Kaufman, Glenwood Springs, Colo.; two sons, Dale, Fort Pierre, S.D., and Al, Carboudale, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Simonson, Belgrade, Mont., and Norman Simonson, Osburn; and one sister, Gladys Huber, Garrison. He is survived by his wife, Sally; one son, Erich, Mandan; tow sisters, Delores Martin, Hebron, and Margi Blunt, Dickinson; four brothers, Donald, Pueblo, Colo., Jerry, Bismarck, and Jack and Dennis, both of Mandan; and one granddaughter.
