Harold Eugene Metz

GERING — Harold Eugene Metz, 74, of Gering, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2000, at Faith Lutheran Church in Gering with Rev. Richard Neugebauer and Rev. Ralph Morris officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Memorials have been established to Faith Lutheran Church or to the family. Friends may call the Gering Memorial Chapel Thursday, March 2, 2000, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

He was born Aug. 8, 1925, at Morrill, Neb., to Harry and Pansey (Williams) Metz. He was raised by his grandparents Henry and Lillie Metz. He enlisted in the United States Navy on Nov. 9, 1943, where he served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on June 5, 1946. He was united in marriage to Betty Joan Nab on June 29, 1952, in Scottsbluff, Neb., and to this union two children were born.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Gering; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and David Kuchta of Pennsylvania; son Harold Edward Metz of Gering; grandchildren Emily, Benjamin, and Zachariah David; step-grandchildren, Sarah, Jessica and Michael; and daughter Connie from a previous marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Lydia, and his grandparents.

Harold Mikoloyck

OSHKOSH — Harold Mikoloyck, 76, of Oshkosh, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 28, 2000, at Gaden County Hospital.

There will be a Vigil Service Wednesday at 6 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Oshkosh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Father Marty Egging officiating. Interment will be at the Oshkosh Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Veterans of Garden County.

Memorials have been established to either the church or to the Oshkosh rescue unit, in lieu of flowers. Friends may call at the church Wednesday after 5 p.m. or Thursday morning. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Garden County, Neb., to Pet and Anna (Blaha) Mikoloyck where he grew up and received his education. He attended District #56 Grade School, Sidney St. Pat’s and graduated from Garden County High School.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps during the Second World War. Following the service he was married to June Newell on Nov. 17, 1946, in Denver, Colo. They lived there for a short time before moving to Garden County where they farmed and ranched and raised their family. He remained active in the Army Air Force Reserves until 1953. He loved his family and sports and rarely missed a family sports event, rain or snow.

He is survived by his wife June; six children Larry and his wife Jackie of North Platte, Jolene Matson and her husband Jim of Aurora, Colo., Richard and his wife Kathy of Oshkosh, Jane Reeves and her husband Jon of Kennard, Neb., Michael and his wife Becky of Albuquerque, N.M., and Julianne Christensen and her husband Andy of Big Springs, Neb.; one brother Don and his wife Phyllis of Oshkosh, and sister-in-law Ardis (Mikoloyck) Richards of Fremont; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Susan Janelle Roark

JACKSON, Mich. — Susan Janelle Ouderkirk Roark of Jackson, Mich., passed away at her residence Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000. She was laid to rest in Grass Lake, Mich., Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000. Her nurse friends were pall bearers.

She was born to Martin and Rosabelle Tanner at Morrill, Neb., May 25, 1949. She attended school in Morrill and Nurse College at Scottsbluff, Neb. She married Bob Roark of Ashland, Ky. They moved to Michigan and had two children, Matthew Paul and Todd Marshall.

She was a registered nurse for 25 years in the Chelse Emergency Department and was named the First Chelse Hospital Employee of the month.

She enjoyed sports, softball, golf, etc. and was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Nebraska Cornhuskers, but more than anything she enjoyed being a nurse.

Survivors include her mother Rosabelle Ayers of Torrington, Wyo.; Bob Roark of Searcy, Ark.; two sons, Matt of Atlanta, Ga., and Todd of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two brothers Steven Ouderkirk of Mitchell, Neb., and Troy (Darla) Ouderkirk of Torrington, Wyo.; one sister Teresa Williams of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four nephews and two nieces.

Amelia Ross

SCOTTSBLUFF — Amelia Ross, 93, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at her son’s home in Scottsbluff. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Jolliffe Funeral Home here.

Mary Feistner

KIMBALL — Mary Feistner, 93, of Kimball, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Kimball County Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2000, at the First English Lutheran Church, with Pastor Dwayne Hunzeker officiating. Burial will be in Kimball Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 11th at the Cantrell Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the First English Lutheran Church of Kimball or to the Kimball County Manor.

She was born Feb. 28, 1907, in Sterling, Neb., to Christian and Marie (Yurk) Boslau. She was raised in Sterling and attended Sterling schools.

Mary and Walter Feistner were married on April 30, 1923 in Salina, Kan.

They lived in the Sterling area before moving to Bushnell to farm. They later returned to Sterling for a time and then moved to Kimball in the 1950’s. She worked at Kimball County Hospital for many years in the dietary department.

She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball. Mary loved to read and she would search garage sales for books and later share them with her friends.

She is survived by four sons Landis Feistner of Yucaipa, Calif., Dale Feistner of Joshua Tree, Calif., Robert Feistner of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Marion Feistner of Colfax, Wash.; one brother Henry Boslau of North Platte, Neb.; and one sister Lena Thieman of Kimball; 36 grandchildren and a number of great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, two sons Walter George and Charles, one daughter Waunetta Branson, one brother Paul Boslau, one sister Lydia Schleinz, one grandson and two great-great grandchildren.

Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Jerry Prokes

OGALLALA — Jerry Prokes, 86, of Ogallala, died April 24, 2000, at Indian Hills Manor.

Funeral services were Friday April 28, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church of Ogallala, with the Rev. Ray Norris officiating.

Graveside rites and burial were held at the Schuyler, Neb., cemetery on April 29.

Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala and the Ogallala Masonic Lodge.

Jaroslav "Jerry" E. Prokes was born on June 21, 1913, in Colfax County, Neb., the son of Emil and Josephine (Krenek) Prokes. He graduated from Schuyler High School.

On Dec. 6, 1936, he married Sylvia Dudek in the Presbyterian Church in Schuyler, and they made their home in Schuyler where he worked for Consumers Public Power. In 1942, they relocated to Schenectady, N.Y., where he worked for the government in the Signal Corps.

In 1944, the family moved back to Schuyler, and he again worked for Consumers. He was transferred to Scottsbluff in 1947, and they remained there until 1972, when they moved to Ogallala.

He retired from the Nebraska Public Power District, successor of Consumers, in 1978.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Ogallala Masonic Lodge #159 AF & AM. He also enjoyed membership in the Big Mac Shrine Club and the Campers Club.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary; son Gerald and brother, Ed Prokes.

Survivors include wife Sylvia of Ogallala; son Roger and wife Julie Prokes of Maryville, Mo.; five grandchildren, Gina and husband Justis Ehlers of South Bend, Ind., Cynthia Prokes of Lincoln, Marty, Brian and Laura Prokes, all of Maryville, and a brother, Stanley Prokes of David City.

Dorothy E. Richards

BELTON, Mo. — Dorothy E. Richards, 97, of Belton, Mo., formerly of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Belton. Graveside services are pending with the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell.

Mollie Ann Robison

KIMBALL — Mollie Ann Robison, 91, formerly of Kimball, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, Wash. Funeral arrangements are pending at Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball.

Floyd Sanks

SIDNEY — Floyd Sanks, 79, of Sidney, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Memorial Health Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2000, at the First Christian Church in Sidney with Fr. Lyle Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery with military graveside honors performed by American Legion Post #17, DAV Chapter 40 and VFW Post 610. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Dorwart Cancer Treatment Center in Sidney.

He was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Dalton, the son of LeRoy and Sunshine (Lane) Sanks. He was raised and attended school in Dalton. On July 30, 1939, he was married to Minnie Lorenz in Dalton and they made their home in the Sidney area and spent a couple of years in California. On Nov. 16, 1944, he enlisted in the Marines and served his time in the service during WWII, and on April 25, 1946, he was honorably discharged from the Marines. He worked for 50 plus years for the City of Sidney as the superintendent of the water and sewer department and as the Public Service Director until his retirement in 1986, he was a life member of the Nebraska Water Pollution Control Association. He was nationally known for his work that he had done with the Water Pollution Control; he was Nebraska Section Utilities Manager. The new Water Pollution Control Plant in Sidney was named after him. He was elected man of the year, was very active in Boy Scouts and was an outstanding member of the American Legion for over 50 years.

Survivors include his wife Minnie of Sidney, son and daughter-in-law Floyd and Barbara Sanks; daughters and son-in-law Gloria and Marion Lipinski and Sandra Namuth; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

His parents, one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

Delbert D. Sheets

SCOTTSBLUFF — Delbert D. Sheets, 66, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at his home. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastors Len Reimer and Doug Jones officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10. A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice.

He was born July 25, 1933, to Ted and Velma (Nichols) Sheets in Scottsbluff. He attended several different country schools in the valley until he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He married Pauline Marshall on April 3, 1954, in Harrisburg, Neb., and to this union two children were born. He was employed by a local packing plant until 1974, when he began plumbing. He mastered the trade of plumbing while being employed by Gray’s Plumbing until 1984, when he started his own business. He owned and operated DDS Plumbing until 1995, when emphysema forced him into retirement.

He enjoyed all kinds of sports. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and camper. He coached for the 23 Club baseball, was Steward of the meat packing union, a member of the Valley Riders Motorcycle Club and devout television addict.

He is survived by his mother Velma Sheets of Scottsbluff; wife Pauline (Marshall) Sheets of Scottsbluff; daughter and son-in-law Gayrene and Larry Walker of Glendale, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law Marshall and Peg Sheets of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Neal Crable and wife Cristin of Scottsbluff; Courtney Crable and friend Jonas of Arizona; Kylie Crable of Arizona; and Amani Walker of Arizona; three great-grandchildren; sister Lorraine Mauler of Gering; brother-in-law Norman Schlager of Gering; 13 nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Ted, sister Darlene and his grandparents.

Mickey D. Shelly

TERRYTOWN — Mickey D. Shelly, 66, of Terrytown, passed away Monday, May 8, 2000, at his home. Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating. Visitation will be at the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell today from 10 a.m. to 8 pm. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

He was born Jan. 18, 1934, in Gordon to William A. and Viola M. (Cardwell) Shelly. He grew up and received his early education in Gordon. He moved to Scottsbluff in 1954. He married Marilyn Staab September 7, 1955, at Harrisburg. He worked in the oil fields in Kimball, Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota. He moved back to Nebraska in 1963 and worked around the panhandle on farms and ranches. He retired in 1985 due to ill health.

Survivors include his wife and friend Marilyn; one daughter Cindy Rein and son-in-law Stu Rein; four sons John of Morrill, Tom of Alliance, Tad and Sam of Terrytown; three granddaughters Krisa, Nicole and Emilie; three grandsons Austin, T.J. and Martin; brother Bill of Gillette, Wyo.; sister Dixie Hauser of Scottsbluff; two half-brothers Butch and Kenneth; half sister Janet Livingston; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Timmy Dean and daughter Candace Sue; four sisters and one brother.

Susie E. Springer

PORTLAND, Ore. — Susie E. Springer, 88, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at the Cherrywood Rehab. and Extended Care facility in Portland, Ore., following several months of declining health.

A Memorial Service will be 7 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2000, in the Hermiston Seventh-day Adventist Church, 855 SW Highland Ave., Hermiston, Ore., with private interment in the Mitchell Valley Cemetery, Mitchell, Neb.

Viewing will be at the Burns Mortuary of Hermiston Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The family suggests remembrances be sent to the Hermiston Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born March 13, 1912, at Almira, Neb., the eldest of 11 children, to Alex B. and Lillian H. Cross McLean. She grew up on truck farms in central and eastern Nebraska. While teaching school in the Scottsbluff, Neb., area she met and married Darrell Springer who preceded her in death in 1995. They farmed in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming and ran a home for the aged for several years. Upon retiring in 1974, they moved to Hermiston.

She was very active in her church where she worked in the Community Service Center and then served as the secretary for 17 years, retiring at the age of 83. After moving to Rose Arbor Assisted Living she continued her ministry of helpfulness by assisting and encouraging fellow residents.

She is survived by sons Harmon of Hermiston, Al of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Wendell of Rice Lake, Wis.; daughters Dorothy Glynn of Portland and Verna Shogren of Angwin, Calif.; brothers Ora, Ernest and Orlin; sisters Ruby Carter, Lois Roemer and Mary Harris; 18 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Larry V. Cochrun
SCOTTSBLUFF — Larry V. Cochrun, 71, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff. Memorial Services are pending at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff.

CHAPPELL — Freda Blum Nagel, 97, of Chappell, formerly of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at the Miller Memorial Nursing Home at Chappell. A Funeral is pending at the Jolliffe Funeral Home at Scottsbluff.

Dorothy Elizabeth Richards
BELTON, Mo. — Dorothy Elizabeth Richards, 97, of Belton, Mo., formerly of Scottsbluff, passed into Gods presence on May 6, 2000, in Belton. Graveside funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2000, at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill with Pastor Scott Mathis officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, May 11, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell.

She was born Jan. 1, 1903, in Monona, Iowa to George and Bertha (Jenkins) Wilkins. The family moved to the Iowa Flats area in Wyoming where she was raised on the family farm. She was a registered nurse and worked in Scottsbluff where she met and married William Harold Richards. She was a member of Eastern Star until her death.

Survivors include daughter Marilynn Zeller and her husband of Greenwood, Mo.; four loving grandchildren, Kevin Zeller of Belton, Missouri, Renea Zeller of Greenwood, Missouri, Mary Carmen E. Richards of Barcelona, Spain and William Brent Richards, Jr. of Madrid, Spain; two great-grandsons of Barcelona, Spain; sister Ruth Sowers of Laramie, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son William Brent Richards; her husband, William Harold Richards; five brothers and three sisters.
