Linda Lee Cornia
Linda Lee Cornia (DeBoer), 44, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died at her parents home in Morrill, on July 23, 2004. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Mitchell with Rev. Robert Wigert officiating. Linda was a colorful person in life and requested that no black be worn at her funeral. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials have been established to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Linda was born on August 6, 1959, to Bill and Janice DeBoer of Morrill. She attended Fairview School from kindergarten to 8th grade. Linda then attended Mitchell High School from 9th to 12th grade, and attended college at Wesleyan University in Lincoln. She was a Medical Technician in Laramie, Wyo., worked at Design Center in Denver, and held several other jobs.
Linda was an avid quilter and belonged to several quilt organizations. She loved her nieces and nephews very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She made all the Halloween costumes for them and their friends.
Linda is survived by her parents Bill and Janice DeBoer of Morrill; brother Billy DeBoer and wife LeAnn and their children Alexis, Erika, and Riley DeBoer of Morrill; brother Bobby DeBoer and wife Shelley and their child Seth DeBoer of Gering; sister Jana Kelly (DeBoer) and her children MacKenzie, Morgan, and Connor Kelly of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and longtime friend Irma Smith (Kakuda). Linda was preceded in death by her grandparents Jim and Vesta DeBoer; and Ed and Sylvia Fulton.
Thelma Blough
Thelma M. Blough, 96, of Gering, formerly of Morrill, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating. Visitation will be today, Sunday, Aug. 1 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell. Memorials may be offered in Thelma’s name to the Morrill Methodist Church.
Thelma was born on July 26, 1908, in White Wood, S.D., to Harv and Nellie (Nowka) Wilson. The family moved to Hendley when Thelma was an infant. She received her education in Hastings, graduating from Hastings High School, receiving her teaching certificate. She married Bill Blough on Sept. 5, 1926, in Hendley before moving to Morrill in 1928 where she took pride in raising her family. She was a member of the Morrill Methodist Church, and also joined the Eastern Star that same year in 1928. Thelma was a member of the Morrill ladies group called the Pracilla Club. Thelma was a terrific cook, treating every visitor to her home as family.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Donna Pieper and her husband Bob of Estes Park, Colo., Marilyn Grasmick and her husband Harvey, and Barbara Ritz and her husband Randall, all of Morrill; son, Bill Blough and his wife Melinda of Socorro, N.M.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, Bill Blough, two brothers and two sisters preceded Thelma in death.
John Wesley Gray
SEDALIA, Mo. — John Wesley Gray, 80, passed away July 30, 2004, in Sedalia, where he had been living since the death of his wife, Eva. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 2, at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Chadron with John Smart and Alfred Broady officiating. Burial will be in the Crawford Cemetery.
John was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Denver, and was adopted as an infant by Dr. Wesley Gray and his wife Mary of Worland, Wyo., where he was raised.
John W. Gray and Eva (Nation) were united in marriage March 8, 1947, in Dawes County. John and Eva were longtime residents of Chadron; owned and operated the Log Cabin Motel in Chadron for 30 years; and John was also employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for approximately 30 years.
Survivors include his sister, Georgia St. Claire of Worland; children, LouElla Wright of Brush, Colo., Terrill Gray and wife Mary of Gurley, Dan and wife, Cyndie of Kearney, Glenda Spinar and husband Dale of Sedalia, and Kendall and wife Laurie of Rapid City, S.D.; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, parents and brother, Richard Gray.
Morgan Rasnake
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Memorial services for Morgan C. Rasnake, 78, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at the Church of Christ at 1919 Avenue N in Scottsbluff, with Ron Kretz officiating. A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice. Mr. Rasnake died at his home after an extended illness. Cremation has taken place.
Carl Sawyer
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Funeral services for Carl Sawyer, 96, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Torrington. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. He died on July 30, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center. Visitation hours will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home today, from 3 to 7 p.m., and Monday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions to Carl Sawyer Rodeo Scholarship at Eastern Wyoming College or to the donor’s choice.
Carl was born on July 12, 1908, in McAlester, in the Oklahoma Territory, the son of Robert and Minneola (Ross) Sawyer. He grew up in the McAlester area and attended the Bugtussle School. He moved to Meridan, Wyo., at the age of 15 where he went to work on the Y6 Ranch. On Oct. 24, 1929, Carl married Wilda Arnold in Greeley, Colo. They lived in LaGrange, Wyo., where Carl started a service station and trucking business. He later moved the business to Bear Mountain Station. In 1944 they moved to Torrington and he continued with Sawyer Stock Liners until he retired in 1978. Following his retirement, Carl and Wilda enjoyed traveling and they wintered in the southern states.
He loved to rodeo and over the years he participated in all the rodeo events. In 1955, he was the Pendleton Roundup Champion Steer Roper. Carl held the world’s record for steer roping in 1958. He had been a Grand Marshall for Cheyenne Frontier Days, and had attended Cheyenne Frontier Days for 75 consecutive years. Carl had also attended the Pendleton Roundup for many years.
He is survived by two daughters both of Torrington, Bev and her husband Bob Yeik and Carlene and her husband Les Schmidt; five grandchildren, Beckie Havely of Torrington, Brad Schuppan of Chama, N.M., Robyn Schuppan of Cheyenne, Wyo., Kellibob Garvie of Lingle, Wyo., and Trae Garvie of Torrington; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda; six sisters; and two half brothers.
Doris Louise Corbin
Doris Louise Corbin, 88 of Mitchell, Nebraska died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 at Beverly Health Care in Scottsbluff. Funeral arrangements are pending at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Ramon ‘Ray’ Luis Biberos
Ramon "Ray" Biberos, 48, of Scottsbluff left this world to be with the Lord on Aug. 6, 2004, at Lake Minatare. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Kimball. Father Jim Golka and Father Robert Karnish with officiate. Rosary services will be at 6 p.m. at the Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9. Memorials may be given to Panhandle Community Services. Cantrell Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Ramon was born on Sept. 26, 1955 in Dalton, to John and Jeanette (Goodsheild) Biberos. He attended school in Kimball, graduating in 1973. He joined the Army after graduation where he served for three years in Korea. He met Dorene Morris. They moved to Kimball and were married in 1979. This union was blessed with three sons, Tony, Billy and Jesse. They moved to Scottsbluff to raise their family. In 1997 he married Debbie Stanley at Lake Minatare. In 1999, they renewed their vows in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church of Scottsbluff. From this union he was given five additional children, Melissa, Shawn, Matt, Stacy and Megan.
He was a self-employed auto body technician and specialist. He enjoyed working on cars, especially with his sons. Ray was also employed by Panhandle Community Services. Ray enjoyed riding motorcycles and attended a few Sturgis rallies.
Ray was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where he was active in church projects. He devoted the last years of his life to his parish. Ray was blessed with musical talent, which he shared with his family and his church. His favorite verse was Matthew 22:37 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." He reminded his family that "everything happens for a reason."
He enjoyed sports, especially hockey and the Colorado Avalanche, which led him to sponsor and coach local teams at the YMCA and a Scottsbluff Wildcats roller hockey team. He created an indoor floor hockey league at the Guadalupe Center. Ray also enjoyed fishing, camping and boating. His family shares many fond memories of him out at the lake. Ray leaves behind many friends and family. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle and son. He will be greatly missed but remembered even more.
Ray is survived by his wife, Debbie, of Scottsbluff; sons, Tony, Billy and Jesse; step-children Melissa, Shawn, Matt, Stacy and Megan; father, John Biberos of Kimball; four grandchildren; sisters, Teresa Bunner of Gurley, Charlotte Johnson of Gurley, Jenifer Fischer of Sidney, Anita Robinson of Grand Island and Juanita Biberos of Kimball; brothers, Buddy, Albert and Mario Biberos of Kimball and Arnie Biberos of Sidney; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette.
Doris Louise (Sloan) Corbin
Doris Louise (Sloan) Corbin, 88, of Beverly Health Care Center went to her eternal rest in God’s arms Wednesday morning, August 4, 2004.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will be at Washington City Cemetery, Washington, Kan., at a later date. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. A memorial in Doris’ memory has been established for the Prairie Haven Hospice, Two West 42nd, Suite 2300, Scottsbluff, NE 69361. Doris was born on January 3, 1916, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Ora Thomas and Clara Bell (Woods) Sloan.
She was married October 26, 1935, to James Lamar Corbin of Washington, Kan.
Doris, beloved mother, wife and friend is survived by her husband James "Mike" Corbin of Beverly Health Care Center, Scottsbluff; sons Jerry and wife Linda Corbin of Mitchell and James "Jim" Corbin of Gering. Doris also leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren Joseph ""Joe" Corbin of Mitchell and Claudia Davis of West Haven, Conn. She was the proud great-grandmother of Jesse L. Corbin of Mitchell and DeGrant M. Davis of West Haven, Conn.
Doris is preceded in death by her precious daughter Wanda, two brothers Dean and Clark Sloan, her parents Ora Sloan and Clara Bell (Woods) Sloan.
Robert Frederick Zeiler
Robert F. Zeiler, 80, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center. His funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Pastor Troy Allen officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Scottsbluff. Robert was born July 28, 1924, in Scottsbluff, the son of Fred and Mary (Schaub) Zeiler. He graduated with the Class of 1942 from Minatare High School. Robert was united in marriage to Grace Earles, Nov. 7, 1946, in Scottsbluff. He worked for the Nash Finch Co. in Scottsbluff for 30 years. He then worked for the Panhandle Co-op Grocery Store for seven years before retiring.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge #459 in Gering, where he reached the Fellowship Degree and was a Past Governor.
Robert is survived by his sons, Robert F. Zeiler Jr. and his wife Shirley of North Platte, Richard L. Zeiler and his wife Jean of Scottsbluff; daughter, Patty K. Huls of Sidney; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Lupher of Scottsbluff; seven sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and special friend Pat Kennedy of Scottsbluff. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife on Aug. 12, 1980, and granddaughter Amy.
Evan Everette Ewing
LYMAN — Evan Everette Ewing, 61, of Lyman, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at the Church of Christ in Lyman with Pastor Mike Meysenburg officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Evan was born Sept. 8, 1942, in Scottsbluff, to Joseph “Joe” Evan and Florence Coreen (Hayden) Ewing. He grew up near Lake Alice and attended schools in Gering and Scottsbluff, where he was on the high school wrestling team.
Evan and Linda (Cross) married Oct. 2, 1965, in Hot Springs, S.D. and they had four children, Jeannia, twins, Monica and Melinda, and Joseph.
He was a cook at the Arrowhead Drive Inn, Big Johns Bar B Que Pit until June of 1967, when Evan and Linda and daughter, Jeannia, moved to Lyman. He then worked at Couplamatic, Samuel Moore, Eaton Corp., Kelly Bean, Vincent Perez Construction and Eastern Wyoming Construction. He also farmed for Bruce Zimmerer.
The couple then moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where he worked for Quality Construction for two years until 2003, when his health forced him to retire. He then returned to Lyman. He loved his sports, including golfing, fishing and camping. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of Lyman; daughters, Jeannia (Terry) Morris of Harrisburg; Monica (Bernard) Olson of Ft. Lee, Va.; and Melinda Ramsey of Glen Burnie, Md.; Gene and Pam Ramsey of Mound City, Mo.; son, Joe (Billi) Ewing of Lyman; grandchildren, Jessica and Todd Rodd of Scottsbluff; Sonia and Conrad Morris of Harrisburg; Lance, Taylor and Mark Ramsey and Matt and Rachel Sipes, all of Mound City; Micha, Amos, Peter and Rachel Olson and Hannah Sullivan of Ft. Lee, Va.; and Kacee and Kaleb Ewing of Lyman; great-granddaughters, Lila Rodd, Brianna and Brook of South Carolina; sisters and brother, Jerri Curran of Scottsbluff; Jolene Mowery of Eldon, Mo.; Melvin and Barb Griggs of Scottsbluff; Marla (Griggs) and Kathy (Griggs) of South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Ewing; mother, Florence (Ewing) Griggs; and brother, Larry Ewing.
Edwin Schildhauer
HAY SPRINGS — Funeral services for Edwin Schildhauer, age 83, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs with burial at the Hay Springs cemetery. Mr. Schildhauer died Aug. 15, 2004, at the Gordon Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Frances of Gordon; Sons, Wayne of Dix, Marvin of Eli and Gerald of Kimball.

Emily (Gorr) Hardin
Emily (Gorr) Hardin, 92, of Scottsbluff, formerly of rural Mitchell, went to be with her Savior, Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Beverly Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., today, Aug. 18, at St. James Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Barry Warpness officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends who wish may call at the funeral. Jolliffe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials have been established to the church or the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
She was born Jan. 13, 1912, in Lincoln, to Fred and Anna Marie (Schmidt) Gorr Sr. She married Max Hardin July 20, 1929, in Harrisburg. The couple was married 56 years until Max’s passing on Oct. 19, 1987. Emily farmed her entire life. She was an active member of the church and very active in the Dorcas Society.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Bob Piffner of Scottsbluff; Loretta and Roy Reitz of Centennial, Colo.; and Memory and Walt Shergin of Santa Rosa, Calif.; sisters, Emma Troudt of Greeley, Colo. and Lillian Blehm of Mitchell; brother, Reuben Gorr of Minatare; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donald (Sonny) Hardin; husband, Max; her parents; one sister and six brothers.
Con Norman
WHITNEY — Memorial services for Con Norman, 74, of Whitney, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, at Grace Episcopal Church in Chadron with Casey Norman officiating. Burial will be at the Whitney Cemetery. Full military services will be provided by the Veterans’ Honor Guard of Chadron.
Mr. Norman died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at his home. Memorials have been established to Grace Episcopal Church, the Whitney Methodist Church or the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
Con was born March 25, 1930, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Harry and Helen Larue Norman. He was a member of The American Legion and the Chadron Elks Lodge #1399.
Survivors include his wife, Bebe Norman of Whitney; son, Casey Norman and his wife Cheryl of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter, Kris and husband Jim Falvo of Owasso, Okla.; brother, Jacque and wife Joann Norman of Whitney; sister-in-law, Norma Norman of Whitney; sisters, Mary Jo Thompson of Lusk, Wyo., Gloria and husband John Lopes of Junction City, Ore. and Joy Isham of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Thomas Alvin Kidd
BAYARD — Thomas Alvin Kidd, 94, of Bayard, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with the Reverend Ed Hunzeker officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice.

Thomas Alvin Kidd was born in Norman, Neb., Dec. 28, 1909, to Charles and Cora (Hays) Kidd. He attended country school near the farm his father homesteaded located near Kenesaw. After the family moved to town, he attended and graduated from Kenesaw High School. He attended Hastings College for one year and then received his pharmacy degree from Creighton University at Omaha. He moved to Bridgeport in 1931 and worked at Bun’s Drug until 1945.
It was there where he met Sarah (Sally) Nichoalds; the couple married Oct. 31, 1932. They lived in Bridgeport until 1945, when they moved to Bayard after purchasing the Lonie Drug Store. They operated Kidd’s Drug for 35 years. Tom was very active in the community serving as a city councilman and as a school board member. He served on many committees promoting the community of Bayard. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church; Camp Clarke Masonic Lodge #285 AF & AM; Eastern Star Lodge; Associate Guardian of Job’s Daughters; member of the Elks Lodge #1367 of Scottsbluff; and enjoyed bowling on the Elk Bowling Team. He served as President of the Bayard Lion’s Club.
In 1997, he was recognized at the Nebraska Pharmaceutical Convention as being the oldest active licensed pharmacist in the state of Nebraska and was awarded his 50-year pin.
Tom’s family meant the world to him and he was adored and loved by his family and friends; he was loved and admired by everyone who was fortunate enough to have met him. Tom was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and his grandchildren have fond memories of their granddad at Kidd’s Drug and his stories of “the olden days.”
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Nancy White of Bayard; Sally Vandenberg of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Brenda and John Carollo of Rock Springs, Wyo.; grandchildren and spouses, Dave and Susan (White) Petrov of Albuquerque, N.M.; Dr. Thomas White and Sheri of Scottsbluff; Julie White of Denver; Nick and Brenda Lee (Vandenberg) Skorup of Yuma, Ariz.; Michael Vandenberg of Rock Springs, Wyo.; Hans Vandenberg and Rachael of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Dale, Sarah, Anna, Mekena, Drew, Trent, Alex, Kara, Quinten, Andrew and Eric; one great-great granddaughter, Katherine; and two step- grandchildren, Megan and Jesse.
His parents; three brothers; three sisters; and his sons-in-law, Dale Vandenberg and Les White, preceded him in death.
Penny Lynn (Thornton) Underwood
Penny Lynn (Thornton) Underwood, 56, of Gering, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, at the Jones Mortuary Chapel in Mitchell with L.D. Alderson officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, north of Morrill. Visitation will be today, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and will continue Friday until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the family.

Penny was born in Scottsbluff, Dec. 7, 1947, to Glen A. and Betty J. (Reeve) Thornton Jr. She received her education in Mitchell and Morrill. She was united in marriage, Aug. 28, 1965, and soon after moved to Torrington, where she gave birth to her first child, Lisa, March 18, 1966. The family relocated to several areas including Michigan, where Penny’s second child, Erica, was born April 30, 1970. The family continued to move around to different states before settling in Jackson Hole, Wyo. Penny’s son Shane was born June 26, 1984 while the family lived in Jackson, Wyo.
While Penny lived in Wyoming, she took great pride in raising her family before taking on house cleaning, which she did for many of the rich and famous in the Jackson Hole area of Wyoming. She resided there until July 2000; shortly after in October 2000, she received the diagnosis of cancer. She lived in Morrill for approximately one year before moving and settling in Gering, where she lived at the time of her death.
Penny loved to square dance and make hook rugs. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
Survivors include her mother, Betty Thornton of Scottsbluff; daughters, Lisa Mullen and her husband Doyle of Paxton and Erica Brunkhardt and her husband Kevin of Etna, Wyo.; son, Shane Underwood of Scottsbluff; sister, Lorraine Shelley and her husband Martin of Scottsbluff; brothers, Robert A. Thornton of Lingle, Wyo. and Michael E. Thornton and his wife Becky of Scottsbluff; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and her very special friend, Ed Funk of Gering.
Her paternal and maternal grandparents and father, Glen A. Thornton Jr., preceded Penny in death.
Reverend Terry L.Templeton
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Reverend Terry L. Templeton, 56, of Sioux City, formerly of Gering, died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City with the Reverends Del Olivier and Marvin Mueller officiating.
Visitation will be held today from 5 to 7:30 p.m.; a prayer service then begins at 7:30 p.m., both at the church. Burial of the cremated remains will be at Graceland Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.

Reverend Templeton was born March 22, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, to Clarence and Mary Jane (Tipton) Templeton. He grew up in Burlington, graduating from Burlington High School in 1966. He graduated later from Elmhurst College and Eden Theological Seminary. Reverend Templeton married Barbara Swanson June 11, 1977, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
He served as associate pastor and youth pastor at Trinity Lutheran, Sioux City, 1974-1977; pastor at Zion Lutheran, Gothenburg, 1977-1985; St. Paul’s Lutheran, Hooper, 1985-1990; Rejoice Lutheran, Gering, 1990-2002; and then returned to Sioux City, where he was currently senior pastor at Trinity Lutheran.
Pastor Terry served each of his churches with steadfast love, devotion and compassion. His kindness knew no boundaries of age, race, appearance or status. Every person to him was a child of God. As a father and husband, his love expanded even further; his wife and children were his life, and he was theirs.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Sioux City; children, Jonathan of Chicago, Ill.; Bethany of Boston, Mass.; Taylor of Sioux City; and Steffany of Decatur, Ill.; brother, Allend W. Templeton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and sisters, Linda Roob of St. Paul, Minn. and Pamela Kranzler of Lime Springs, Iowa.
His parents preceded him in death.
