Robert E. Hunt, Sr.
September 12, 2013
Robert E. Hunt, Sr., age 90 of Lincoln, passed away September 11, 2013. He was born January 27, 1923 in Auburn, New York to Leo James and Elnora (Brennan) Hunt. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a medic during WWII in France.
Survivors include his former spouse and friend, Joyce Hunt of Lincoln. Daughters and Son-in-law, Deb Crandall of Ft. Pierce, FL; Mildred and Dan Shepler of New York. Son Robert E. Hunt, Jr. of Lincoln. Granddaughters, Nicki of New York and Stefanie of Florida. Grandson, Leroy Crandall, Jr. Niece, Bonnie Rockwell of New York. 5 step children, many step grandchildren.
Graveside services with military rites will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Wyuka cemetery.

Betty Jean Kroon
September 9, 2013
Betty Jean Kroon age 82 of Lincoln, Nebraska died on Monday, September 9, 2013 in Lincoln. She was born on June 23, 1931 in Milligan, Nebraska to William and Liddia (Horlivy) Buzek. She graduated from Milligan High School. Betty married Larry Glen Kroon, he preceded her in death on July 28, 1998. She was the apartment manager at Blevins Apartments from 1964 to 1996.
Betty is survived by her sons, Curtis (Leslie Stimbert) Kroon of Lincoln; Calvin (Mary) Kroon of Roca; granddaughter, Heidi Kroon of Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary service all at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1420 K Street, with Father Doug Dietrich officiating.
Burial at a later date will be in Wyuka cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Capital Humane Society.

Dr. John Willard Bengtson
September 6, 2013
Dr. John Willard Bengtson, 98, of Lincoln passed away September 5, 2013 in Lincoln Nebraska. He was born on a farm in rural Platte county December 11,1914 to parents John Emil and Sarah Nilsson Bengtson, both first generation residents of Swedish ancestry. He attended Boone County rural schools, graduated from Albion High School and attended the University of Nebraska graduating in 1937 with a BS in Agriculture, and a MA from George Washington University in 1941. In 1940 he married Antoinette Ketner of Washington DC. First employed mapping sandhills vegetation on the Valentine Migratory Wildfowl Refuge, he was next employed by the US Golf Association Greens Section in Washington DC doing research on selection and cultivation of grass for golf courses. With the onset of WWII he was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers to stabilize newly constructed airfields in the southern United States. When this assignment was finished he was inducted into the US Army Chemical Warfare Service until discharged to attend medical school. He entered the University of Rochester (NY) School of Medicine in 1945, graduating in 1948. Internship and residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Ohio and continued residency at Veterans Hospital in Newington Connecticut under the supervision of Yale University. Certified in Internal Medicine he was employed at the Connecticut Veterans Home in Rocky Hill until joining the Lincoln Clinic in 1956. While in practice he was a member of the attending staff at Bryan Memorial, Lincoln General, and St. Elizabeth hospitals. He was medical director of the Independence Center at Lincoln General Hospital for 20years. John served on the Nebraska Commission on aging, was a member of the Nebraska Diabetes Association, American Medical Association, and the Lancaster County Medical Association. He was elected to Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. He was a long time member of Lincoln Sailing Club.
Preceded in death by his wife, Antoinette and daughter Khristina. Survived by sons Peter of New York City, Erik and Steven (Vonda) of Lincoln, Carl (Deb) of West Palm Beach, FL. and grandchildren, Sarah, Rachael and Charles of West Palm Beach, FL., and Stephen, Matthew and Jenna of Lincoln.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Wyuka cemetery.

Denore Marie Shoup
August 29, 2013
Denore M. Shoup, age 59 of Lincoln, passed away with her family by her side on August 29, 2013. She was born March 13, 1954 in Buffalo, New York to John R. and Jane M. (Kopp) Bossinger. Denore was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Jim Shoup of Lincoln. Son: Pete Shoup of Lincoln. Her grandson, Dillon Shoup, who was the light of her life. Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Denise Koziel of New York, Diane and Thomas Zulawski of New York, Donna and Ed Falco of Arizona. Brothers and Sisters-in-law: John H. and Lucille Bossinger of Illinois, Jeff and Cindy Bossinger of New York. Special friend: Synda Horsham of Lincoln. Sister-in-law: Tammy Bossinger of New York. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joel James Bossinger and a brother-in-law, David Koziel.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 10:30 A.M. until service time.
Burial with military honors will be at Wyuka cemetery.
Memorials may be left to the Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency association or the family.

Richard Dick A. Waters
August 27, 2013
Richard Dick A. Waters age 87 of Beatrice, Nebraska died on Monday, August 26, 2013 in Beatrice. He was born on November 19, 1925 in Middleburgh, New York to Raymond D. and Grace Anna (Cower) Waters. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Dick was united in marriage to Blanche Golus on December 20, 1945 in Modesto, California. They were married for 63 years. The couple resided in Middleburg, New York, before settling in Grand Island in 1948. Dick lived in Beatrice the last two years with his daughter, Sherry and her husband Allan. Dick was a truck driver for Ace Hardware and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He delivered the Omaha World Herald in Northwest Nebraska for 50 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 53 in Grand Island.
Dick is survived by his son, Rich and Kathy Waters of Burlingame, Kansas; daughters, Sherry and Allan Spiehs of Beatrice; Joanne and Mike Spaulding of Lincoln; Beverly Waters of Beatrice; grandchildren, Rich and Jodi Waters of CA; Mike Waters of Lincoln; Andrew Spiehs of Lincoln; Melissa Spaulding of Lincoln; Storm Santiago of Brainard, MN; Peter Spiehs of Kansas City, MO; Tory Spiehs Carkoski of Lincoln; 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Blanche, a son in infancy, Robert John, brother, Reginald L. Waters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Burial with military honors will be in Fairview cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Special Olympics or the Peoples City Mission.

Marilyn J. Hasselbalch
December 7, 2013
Marilyn Jean Hasselbalch was taken into the arms of the Savior on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2013, in Lincoln. She was born on Jan. 2, 1930, in Omaha to Paul William and Helga Ester (Nodgaard) Campfield. Marilyn was baptized and confirmed at Koontz Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha and was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln. She graduated with high distinction from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a BA in Education, where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority. Other honors and societies to which she belonged include Phi Beta Kappa, Theta Sigma Phi, Kappa Tau Alpha, Mortar Board Vice President, American Legion Auxiliary, Danish Sisterhood, PEO Chapter FX, Norden Club, and William White Chapter of Colonial Dames. She was named among the Outstanding Young Women of America in 1961 and listed in the Who’s Who of American Women in 1991-92. She began her career as a teacher. She taught school in Omaha and Long Beach, Calif. Marilyn was active in the Republican Party all of her adult life. She was a member of the College Young Republicans, Cornhusker Republican Women and National Federation of Republican Women. She served as the Nebraska Delegate to the State Republican Convention in 1986. She also worked for the Nebraska Real Estate Appraiser Board as the director. She was an assistant to Charles Thone when he served as a U.S. Congressman and as Nebraska’s Governor. She also assisted Nebraska’s first female Governor, Kay Orr, in the State Treasurer’s Office and in the Governor’s Office. Her responsibilities included writing speeches for both Thone and Orr.
She is survived by her children, Kurt (Claire Calcagno), Eric (Xiaogang Qiu), Ane McBride (Mike) and Daughter in law, Missy Hasselbalch; her grandchildren, Jordan (fiancé Megan Magsamen), James (Chloe Sweet), Zoe and Isabel Hasselbalch and Paul, Andy and Luke McBride. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Peter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church, 4325 Sumner, Lincoln. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Wyuka cemetery. Family and friends will meet at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from Noon until 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday, December 9, 2013 at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church.

Gayle D. Tweton
December 5, 2013
Gayle D. Tweton, age 82, of Lincoln passed away peacefully December 4, 2013 with his family by his side. He was born October 3, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa to Helmer and Elsie (Krogmann) Tweton. Gayle was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was proud to work as a teamster and heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Tim Westrick of Lincoln; Granddaughters and spouses, Amy and Tony Gee of Adams, Nebraska, Jenny and Mike Finck of Omaha, Carrie and Paul Marshall of Lincoln. Great grandchildren, Madison Gee, Owen, Carter and Kinley Finck, Wylder Marshall. Nieces, Nephews and longtime friends. Gayle was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; his parents; brothers, Virgil Tweton, Palmer Tweton and infant brother. Sister, Fern Barger.
Private family services at a later date.

Patty Jo Hohenstein
December 4, 2013
Patty Jo Hohenstein, age 81, of Lincoln passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on December 3, 2013, after a short illness. She was born February 10, 1932 in Hastings, Nebraska to Jofield C. and Orma Belle (James) Outhier. Patty was a 1953 graduate of Hastings College and on April 7, 1956 she married Charles Hohenstein in San Diego, California. Patty was a devoted Navy wife, travelling the world with her husband Charles and her girls. Favorite duty tours included Japan and England. Pat loved her students and cherished her time as a teacher at Sheridan School. Always a voracious reader, Pat became an avid bridge player after retiring from teaching. Pat was a proud Nebraska native and was a passionate Cornhusker fan.
Survivors include daughter, Pamela Bieda of Potomac, Maryland and her children, Sarah, Jessica and Josef Bieda; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Larry Nelsen of Omaha and their children, Michael and Molly Nelsen. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; sister, Katherine M. Stenner.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 6th at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 2325 S. 24th street, Lincoln. To honor her love for the Cornhuskers and her natural hair color, please dress in red for her service.
Private inurnment will be at Wyuka cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Charles.

Joseph M. Lowrey, age 44, of Lincoln, died December 1, 2013. He was born August 13, 1969 in Lincoln to Linda Watts and Michael Lowrey.
Survivors include his son, Levi Lowrey of Lincoln; Mother, Linda Watts of Lincoln; Father, Michael Lowrey of Lincoln; Brother, Patrick Lowrey of Colorado; Aunts, Patricia Jo Davis and Debra Keating; Uncles, Robert Lee Keating, Darold Dean Keating and Jack Lowrey. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Jean Lowrey; Step father, Wayne Watts; Step brother, Chad Watts; grandparents; Uncle, Glenn Keating, Sr.; Aunt, Kathy; Cousin, Glenn Keating, Jr.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 6th at Wyuka Funeral Home.
