Eugene Haiar
The funeral for Eugene E. "Gene" Haiar, 60, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 3400 E. 16th St., Fremont.
He died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center after a heroic battle with cancer.
Haiar was born July 19, 1943, in Lindsay. He grew up at Lindsay and was a 1962 graduate of Holy Family High School at Lindsay. He served in the Nebraska Army National Guard and lived at Columbus and later moved to Fremont. He took many college extension courses in the electronics field. He was employed at Hormel Foods Corp. and also did custom painting and home remodeling. He took an early retirement due to his health. Gene enjoyed his family and friends and loved his dogs.
He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Fremont. He married
Rosie Muhle on Dec. 29, 1964, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church at Columbus.
Survivors include: his wife, Rosie; two sons, Paul (and wife, Jane) Haiar of Anchorage, Alaska and Steven (and wife, Melanie) Haiar of Las Vegas; two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Calvin) Schwarz of Montrose, Colo. and Janene (Mrs. James) Wohlers of Grand Island; three brothers, Vernon (and wife, Corrine) Haiar of Humphrey, Richard Haiar of Columbus and Alvin (and wife, Jean) Haiar of Omaha; mother-in-law, Martha Mueller of Columbus; three sisters-in-law, Arlene (Mrs. Mark) Woodworth, Gladys (Mrs. Donald) Borowiak and Connie (Mrs. Richard) Wagner; and six grandchildren, Steven, Ryan and Amber Rose Haiar, Mark Schwarz, Noah and Annie Wohlers: uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends.
The Rev. Owen Korte will officiate Fridays service. A vigil service will start at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Calvary cemetery, Shell Creek, rural Columbus.
Pallbearers are Paul E. Haiar, Steve E. Haiar, Calvin Schwarz, J.J. Wohlers, Bob and Marc Haiar, Marie Zach and Rich Wagner.
Albert Ibsen
A memorial service for Albert A. Ibsen, 81, of Omaha will be 2 p.m. Friday at Braman Mortuary in Omaha.
He died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha.
Ibsen was born Aug. 5, 1992, in Fremont, where he was raised.
Survivors include: a longtime companion, Mary Lesley of Omaha and a brother, Pete of Tacoma, Wash.
He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars 2503. A private burial is planned.
Clarence J. Jonas
Clarence J. Jonas, 66, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Fremont, died Monday, May 3, 2004, in Denver.
A memorial service will be held June 25, 2004, in Denver.
A memorial has been established to Fremont Bergan High School.
Gavin Steffensmeier
Gavin Anton Steffensmeier, 7 months, of Howells died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Childrens Hospital in Omaha.
He was born Oct. 31, 2003, in Columbus.
Survivors include: his parents, Keith Steffensmeier and Casey (Cahill) Baumert of Howells; two sisters, Hannah and Maddison of Howells; grandparents, Bob Steffensmeier of Clarkson, Betty Steffensmeier of Dodge, Lori Cahill of Clarkson and Tony Cahill of Clarks.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells with the Rev. Paul Ortmeier officiating. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday, all at the church. Burial will be in Clarkson Catholic cemetery in Clarkson. Lunch will be served at St. Johns school basement in Howells after the burial.

Esther Woodcock
Esther J. Woodcock, 65, of Fremont, formerly of Schuyler, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in Fremont Area Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Worland, Wyo. to Clarence and Nora "Arps" Hallowell. She grew up in the North Bend/Snyder area, receiving her elementary education in the Snyder schools and attending high school in North Bend where she graduated. Later, she attended Platte Community College in Columbus and became certified by the state of Nebraska in food service.
Esther was employed by Schuyler Memorial Hospital (later known as Alegent Health Memorial Hospital) for 31 years in food service. Then she worked for Beverly Healthcare in Schuyler for a year. In 2002, she moved to Fremont.
She is a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont.
Esther married
Donald N. Woodcock in June 1960. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: a son, Neil (and wife, Donna) Woodcock of Columbus; a daughter, Shirley (and husband, Jim) Wozny of Fremont; three grandchildren, Travis Woodcock of Columbus, Erin Wozny and Tayler Wozny, both of Norfolk; a brother, Robert (and wife, Lois Ann) Hallowell of Fremont; and a brother-in-law, Harold White of Schuyler.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian White.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Greg Hall of Calvary United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation also will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be in Purple Cane cemetery in rural North Bend.
Memorials are suggested to Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont.
Landon Guern-Nadrchal
Private graveside services will be held Friday for Landon Timothy Guern-Nadrchal, infant son of Amanda Guern and Kevin Nadrchal of Fremont.
Landon was stillborn Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Survivors include: his parents; a sister, Angelina Rasmussen, at home; grandparents, Sherry Guern of Fremont, LaVern Nadrchal of David City and Janine Novak of Suffolk, Va.; great-grandparents, Arla Moyer of Fremont, Joyce and Milford Svasek of Schuyler, LaVern Nadrchal of Pilger and Janice Scott of Carter Lake, Iowa.
Deacon Duane Kosmicki of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Fremont will officiate at the services at Memorial cemetery in Fremont. There is no visitation.
Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Hughes
The funeral for Kenneth F. Hughes, 88, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
He died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at his home.
Hughes was born May 17, 1916, in Grand Island to James and Alice (Wagner) Hughes. He moved to Fremont in 1928. On Aug. 2, 1941, he married
Marie Morris in St. Charles, Mo. He entered the U.S. Army in 1936, serving until early in 1940. He was called back to duty in October 1940, serving until September 1945. During his last three years in the Army, he served in Africa, Sicily, England, France and Germany. Hughes was wounded twice and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.
After his military service, he worked in St. Louis for a milling company. He returned to Fremont, working for a brief time for Nebraska Consolidated Mills before working as a prison guard in Lincoln and then working for a milling company in Omaha. He moved to Fremont in 1952, working for Con-Agra until his retirement.
He was a member of American Legion Post 20 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 18, both of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999 and a daughter, Marie Nedved, in 2001.
Survivors include: one daughter, Kathy (Mrs. Mike) Williams of Hooper; three sons, Rodney (and wife, Sharon) of Lexington, Ky., Michael of Salt Lake City and James (and wife, Denise) of Fremont; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and one brother, Ted (and wife, Betty) Niess of Fremont.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Norman Freund will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in Memorial cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.
Sylvia Pabian
The funeral for Sylvia Pabian, 82, of Prague will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Prague.
She died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the Hospice of Tabitha in Lincoln.
Sylvia Musilek was born April 17, 1922, in Prague. She attended college for two years and taught school. She married
Milo Pabian on Oct. 14, 1947, in Omaha.
She was a member of St. John The Baptist Church in Prague.
Survivors include: a son, Michael Pabian of Lincoln; two daughters, Patricia Krondak and Lynne Pabian, both of Lincoln; a sister, Irene (Mrs. Ray) TePoel of Malmo; a brother, Leonard (and wife, Bertha) Musilek of Prague; a sister-in-law, Frances Pabian of Omaha; a brother-in-law, Richard Shimerka of Prague; and a granddaughter.
The Revs. Jamie Hottovy and Joe Mroczkowski will officiate Fridays service. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., all at the church. Visitation will continue Friday morning until service time at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lynn J. Carpenter, 74, of Fremont died today, Aug. 5, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
