Agnes Louise (Witt) Real

Agnes Louise Real, 81, of McCook, died Tuesday evening (Feb. 1, 2005) at McCook Community Hospital.

She was born April 30, 1923, to Milton Reed and Gladys Viola (White) Witt in Cedar Bluffs, Kan. She grew up on the family farm near Cedar Bluffs. She graduated from Decatur County High School in Oberlin in 1940 and did post graduate work in business. She then moved to Denver where she worked for the National Biscuit Company.

On April 30, 1943, she married Charles "Chuck" E. Real in Denver. They moved to McCook in 1946.

She enjoyed her life as a homemaker. She was employed by Fallick's Bakery in McCook and was also an Avon representative. She retired, after 21 years, as ward clerk at St. Catherine's Hospital and McCook Community Hospital. In 1981, she was honored by the hospital with the Caring Kind Award.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She was active in the Altar Society, Fatima Circle and various bible study groups. She served on the board of the Christian Women's Club. One of her favorite pastimes for 55 years, was playing in a card group, the DLD, which she helped to form in November of 1949.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chuck, Oct. 28, 1999; and a brother, Waldene Witt.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy and husband, Ken Davis of McCook; her son, Chuck Real, Jr. and wife, Marita of Omaha; three granddaughters, Tobi S. Hunter of Loveland, Colo., Brianna M. Davis of Denver, Colo., Myla M. Gish and husband, Shawn of Omaha; one great-granddaughter, McKenna Catherine Hunter of Loveland, Colo.; her brother Duane Witt and wife, Carol of Oberlin; and her sister Dorothy Potts of Amarillo, TX.; and by a "Special Family", Mark and Josie Youngberg of Omaha.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

The Rosary will be Friday, Feb. 4th, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5th, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Jerel Scholl and Father Tom Bush officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Letha Alberta (Wright) Redden

Letha Alberta Redden of Indianola died Monday, January 9, 2006 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 68 years old.

She was born May 7, 1937 at Buckland, KS to Jim H. and Jessie M. (Scofield) Wright. She married Frank David Redden on July 17, 1954 at St. Francis, KS. To this union six children were born.

She had lived in Indianola since 1958. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in McCook. She raised her family and worked in local restaurants. She enjoyed her grandchildren, watching car racing, football, country western and gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gailen and daughter Brenda in infancy; son Glenn; one sister, Darlene Welch; and one brother, Wayne.

Survivors include her husband, Frank of Indianola; three sons, Geary and wife Patricia Redden of Imperial, Timothy Redden and Tammie Marts of McCook, and Terry Redden of Kearney; three brothers, Leon and wife Sarah Wright of Indianola, Dave and wife Jennie Wright of St. Francis, KS, and Keith and wife Judy Wright of Hutchinson, KS; one brother-in-law, Dale Welch of Hutchinson, KS; one sister, Nadine Workman and husband Charles of Haigler; three grandsons and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Eddie Wright officiating. Inurnment will be in the Haigler cemetery at a later date.

LaDona Laura (Wagner) Redtfeldt

LaDona Laura Redtfeldt died Friday, March 11, 2005 at St. John’s Care Center in Kearney, Nebraska. She was 87 years old.

LaDona was born on June 8, 1917, at Lushton, Nebraska to Lawrence and Anna (Purcell) Wagner. At one year of age, LaDona and her parents moved to Wilsonville where LaDona grew up and later graduated from high school in 1935.

On August 17, 1935, she married William “Bill” J. Redtfeldt at Norton, Kansas. To this union was born a daughter, Barbara Jean. LaDona and Bill spent their entire married life in or around the Lebanon community farming and raising cattle. They shared a love for dogs. On November 29, 1994, Bill passed away. He and LaDona would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary the following August. LaDona was a good homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Redtfeldt; four brothers, Pete, Rufus, Zoeth and Lynn Wagner; and five sisters, Iva Schommer, Dena Sloan, Dolly Childers, Helen Tracy and Evelyn Van Wye.

LaDona leaves to cherish her memory, Barbara and her husband, Alfred Jolly, of Wilsonville; one granddaughter, Mary Fruhling and husband, Jeff, of Kearney; two great-grandsons, Dylan and Collin Fruhling; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Monday 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 15, 2005, 2:00 p.m., at the Lebanon Presbyterian Church with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be in the Lebanon cemetery.

Roland Ray Reed

Roland Ray “Corky” Reed, Jr. died Sunday, September 25, 2005 at his home in McCook. He was 76 years old.

Corky was born June 2, 1929 in McCook to Dr. Roland Ray and Helen F. (Kagy) Reed, Sr. He was nicknamed “Corky” a day after his birth by one of the nuns at McCook Hospital; it stuck. He grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1947.

In the early 1950’s Corky served in the U.S. Air Force while earning his business and accounting degree from the University of Colorado. During the 1960’s, he worked for IBM and then at Ryder Truck Rental as a senior data processing manager. He lived in Denver, CO and then Miami, FL before moving back to McCook in 1974. He owned the Kits-N-Kaboodle Hobby Shop until he opened the Mexico Lindo restaurant in 1984, which he operated until the time of his death.

Survivors include: four daughters Melanie Reed and her husband, Jerry Freier, of Ft. Collins, CO, Kim Reed of Denver, CO; Lisa Jordan and husband, Pete, of Tampa, FL, and Tina McCoy of Ft. Collins, CO; two sons, Dean A. McCoy and wife, Tammy, of San Diego, CA, and Christian Sornson and wife, Crystal, of Salem, OR; special friend, Joan Gilliam, of McCook; eight grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.. He was married to and divorced from V. Joan (DeHart) Church, Vivienne Sornson and Jeanette Reed.

Corky loved his friends and community. He had a soft heart for all animals, but especially his beloved dogs. His hobbies and passions included railroad modeling, motorcycle riding, building and flying remote control airplanes, and having coffee with his buddies. During the past few years, Corky and his friend, Joan Gilliam, enjoyed each others company, attending the McCook high school softball games, watching the moon and stars, and just hanging out together. He was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in McCook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean; and son, Mark.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the McCook Humane Society.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Tom White officiating. Inurnment will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday 4-6 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friends may also leave condolences on-line at www.carpenterbreland.com . Carpenter Breland Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Sara L (Rathbun) Reiners

Sara L. Reiners entered her heavenly home Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at McCook Community Hospital after a year and a half long courageous battle with cancer.

Sara was born on November 18, 1940 at Hayes Center, NE to Donald Allen and Dorothy Jean (Counce) Rathbun. She attended elementary school in Hayes Center. She moved with her family to Catoosa, OK were she continued her schooling. They moved back to McCook in 1954 where Sara completed her high school years, graduating in 1958.

On December 14, 1958, she married Kenneth Eugene Reiners at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. They made their home on a farm near Danbury. Kenneth preceded her in death on April 4, 1984. She was employed as a secretary for Danbury Oil, served as a hostess for Chief Restaurant, and later was a cashier for Hinky Dinky and Sunmart. She retired in 2003 when her health declined.

Sara was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed wood working, especially refinishing and restoring antique furniture.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Donald and Dorothy Rathbun; her husband, Kenneth; and an infant son.

Survivors include her four daughters, Brenda and husband, William “Mike” Lawless, of North. Platte, Shari and husband, Steve Haag, of McCook, Teresa and husband, Rocky Diederich, of Oberlin, KS and Gay and husband, Robb Leitner, of Herndon, KS; best friend, Bob Matheny of Danbury; sister, Kay Oglevie of Omaha; 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, Beaver Valley Ambulance or Community HealthCare and Hospice.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 18, from 9:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family will be receiving friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be Friday, November 19, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. Pastor Randy Wahl will be officiating. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery.

Eva E. (Iler) Relph

Eva E. Relph died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 92 years old.

Eva was born on May 24, 1912, at Hebron, Nebraska to Alonzo P. and Nina (Snider) Iler. She attended rural school north of McCook.

On July 13, 1933, she married James W. Relph. Eva worked many years for Ideal Laundry until her retirement. She then worked at Electric Hose and Rubber Plant for several years.

Eva was a member of McCook Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, yard work and crocheting in her free time.

Preceding her in death were her parents; Alonzo and Nina Iler; two brothers, Lon and Frank; half-brother, Arthur; six sisters, Bessie, Hazel, Fannie, Deloris, Alice, and Lavern; two half-sisters, Zella and Myrtle; and three siblings in infancy.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, November 10, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Dale Heimer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Friends may sign her book at the funeral home during business hours. The casket will be closed to the public.

Dolores Faye (Rosacker) Reyes

Dolores "Dee" Faye Reyes died at her home in McCook on Sunday, April 18, 2004. She was 72 years old.

Dee was born on August 27, 1931, in Wayne, NE to Otto Clause and Thelma (Nichols) Rosacker. She attended school in Wayne.

She married Duane Herfel at Sioux City, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Debra, was born.

Dee made her home in Denver for over 40 years. She was employed in the clerical department of Bank One until her retirement. She later was employed by Pharm-America, a Pharmaceutical Company. In 2002, she moved to McCook to be closer to family. Dee began working for Country Kitchen Restaurant until her health prevented her from working.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane; daughter, Debra; brother, Dwayne Rosacker; and sister, Donna Harder.

Survivors include her two sisters, Diana and husband, Duane Tappe, of McCook and Dorothy Kay of Wakefield; numerous nieces and nephews; her friends at Country Kitchen and her caring neighbors.

Private family services will be held at a later time.

Chester W. Rima

Chester W. Rima died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at McCook Community Hospital. He was 66 years old.

Chester was born on August 8, 1939 in Brush, Colorado to Fred Wyman and Peggy (Coleman) Rima. He attended McCook Public Schools. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and also served in the National Guard. He was honorably discharged on July 18, 1957.

On November 6, 1987, he married Wanda K. Van Cleave in McCook. Chester was a truck driver for several trucking companies. He was a devoted viewer of the TV History Channel.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Peggy Rima; and one brother, Wayne Rima.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of McCook; three sons, John Rima of McCook, Richard Rima and wife, Sheri, of Lexington, and David Rima and wife, Jackie, of Harvard; two daughters, Susan Rima of McCook and Lacy Rima of Missouri; one brother, Richard Rima of McCook; one sister, Beth Goltl of Oberlin, KS; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be today until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 16, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Pastor Jon Albrecht officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be Friday, November 18, 2005, 3:00 p.m. at Riverview cemetery.

Lillian Elizabeth (Faidley) Schaal

Lillian Elizabeth Schaal died Friday (June 17, 2005) at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 102 years old.

Lillian was born on May 5, 1903, to John Leroy and Ruby Juliette (Stuart) Faidley at Junction City, Kansas. She was 102 years old.

On October 1, 1923, she married Kenneth Ross McCormick at Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1937, they moved from Manhattan, Kansas to Colorado.

After Kenneth’s death Lillian married George Arthur Schaal on December 11, 1958 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in McCook.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church since 1925, a lifetime member of the Eastern Star (Queen Esther #5), Order of White Star, and a lifetime member of the Boulder Ladies Elks and other Boulder Homemakers Clubs.

She enjoyed her family, gardening, Christmas, traveling, square dancing, shopping and watching the Denver Bronco’s football games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby Faidley; her husbands Kenneth McCormick and George Schaal; a brother and sister in infancy; one son, Kenneth Jack McCormick; son-in-law, Albert H. Nothnagel; an infant grandson and infant great-grandson.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Nothnagel of McCook; four grandsons, Frank Nothnagel of San Diego, CA, John Nothnagel and wife, Betty of McCook, Dan Nothnagel of McCook, and Louis Nothnagel of Wayne; one granddaughter, Jolene and husband, Robert Schmidt, of McCook; 11 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to McCook Community Hospital, Hillcrest Nursing Home or St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

Due to remodeling at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, public visitation will be Sunday and Monday 4:00- 8:00 p.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Chapel.

A private family service and burial will be Tuesday afternoon at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Sam Williams officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
