Rodney Ray McKillip
Rodney Ray McKillip, 46, of McCook, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Hugh Butler Lake.
He was born December 26, 1957 to James A. and Marlys Jean (Grafel) McKillip at McCook.
He had lived in McCook all his life. He graduated from McCook High School in 1976. He enjoyed music, TaeKwonDo, fishing, sports, and especially Husker Football.
He worked at Parker-Hannifin (formally Dayco) and had celebrated 20 years of employment on May 29, 2004.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents Edward & Iverna (Dimond) Grafel and Nile & Opal McKillip.
Survivors include: a brother, Randall McKillip and wife Sherry of McCook; a sister, Kimberly Aubrey and husband Bill of McCook; and niece Ashley Aubrey of McCook and nephew Brady McKillip and wife Leslea from Lamoni, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials were to be given to the Rodney McKillip Memorial Fund.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 9th at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.

LaVeda (Smith) Meissner
LaVeda "Maxine" Meissner died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was 75 years old.
Maxine was born on December 2, 1928, at Stockville, NE to Delva DeWayne and Wilma Dee (Blake) Smith.
On June 14, 1946 she married
Robert Simmerman Meissner in Oberlin, KS. They made their home south of McCook. To this union one daughter, Marilyn, was born.
Maxine worked for TRW, Gibson’s, and was head of housekeeping for Community Hospital. Her greatest joy came from baby-sitting for her great-niece and nephew.
She was residing at Hillcrest Nursing Home at the time of her death where she loved playing Bingo.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Robert on August 8, 2001; one sister, Geraldine Gonzales; and infant brother, Delva.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn and husband, Joe Mavigliano, of McCook; brother, Donald Smith and wife, Karen, of Aurora, CO; sister, Arlene and husband, Wayne Gillen, of McCook; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorials were to be given in her name.
Memorial services were Friday, April 23, 2004, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Arthur C. Merrell
Arthur C. “Dick” Merrell died Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. He was 95 years old.
Dick was born in Rawlins, Wyoming on August 31, 1909 to Edward C. and Lulu Louise (Hesse) Merrell. He graduated from Hayes Center High School. He was employed for 42 years with the Burlington Railroad. He was a conductor on Amtrak, retiring in 1974.
He married
Helen Ploussard in 1936 and they lived 59 years at 111 West O Street before moving to Willow Ridge Retirement Community.
Dick was an active member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, McCook Elks Lodge and the McCook Masonic Lodge # 135 A.F. & A.M. For many of his retirement years he was coordinator of the McCook Pantry.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a daughter, Sandra Jean Randel and sons-in-law, Gary Randel and Richard Roedel.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Vicki Roedel Evans and David Evans II of Lincoln; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, Murray and Mindy Randel and McKenzie, Mitchell and McKayla of Beatrice, NE; Jerry and Angie Roedel and Vincent of Wyoming, MN; Kay and John Robben and Anna and Isabella of Sycamore, IL; Neal and Amy Randel and Mark, Bethany and Lindy of Lexington, NE; Shawna and Jeff Herechski and Cole, Ryan and Kelsey of Firth, NE; Robert and Kimberly Roedel and Donovan and Delaney of Anthem, AZ; Stacey Roedel of Lincoln; Tom and Kristie Randel and Sydney and Gabriel of West Bend, WI; and special friend of the family, Ardis Randel Vukas of McCook.
Memorials were to be given in his name to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church or McCook Pantry.
Memorial Services were held Friday, April 1, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with inurnment in Riverside cemetery.

Clara (Wagner) Metzer
Clara Wagner Metzer, 107, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at El Dorado Manor in Trenton.
She was born to John and Marie Katherine (Eisenach) Wagner on March 23, 1898 in Culbertson. She attended Culbertson Public Schools.
She married
Loyd H. Metzer on February 23, 1927. To this union two children were born. They made their home in Culbertson where she was a homemaker and US Post Office clerk for 18 years. After Loyd’s retirement they both traveled for a number of years. Loyd preceded her in death on February 3, 1968.
She was baptized as a child and became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson in January of 1913. She received her 75 year pin in October of 1989. She enjoyed sewing, all kinds of needlework, quilts, taking pictures, and traveling.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Loyd; son-in-law, Kenneth Brenning; daughter-in-law, Mary Annette Metzer; five brothers, Geoffrey, William, Solomon, John and Albert; seven sisters, Emalia (Molly) Sarah, Amelia, Esther, and Rose and two in infancy, Mary Katherine and Margaret.
Survivors include her children, Marvin Metzer and Thelma Brenning both from McCook; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Memorials were to be given in her name.
Funeral services were at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson, on Saturday, November 12, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Richard Melano officiating. Burial took place in the Culbertson cemetery.

Larry Mihm
Larry Mihm, 66, Lincoln, formerly of Indianola, died May 20, 2005, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln after a courageous year long battle with cancer.
He was born to Clarence and Alma (Coburn) Mihm on April 24, 1939 in Indianola, NE. He graduated from Indianola High School 1957 and McCook Community College 1959. He worked at Gierharts Shoe Store and McCook National Bank. In 1976 he began farming until 1984. He enjoyed many hours in his woodworking shop.
He married
Betty Sayer on May 26, 1962 at St. Catherine’s Church in Indianola.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus and member of the National Guard.
Survivors include: his wife of 42 years, Betty of Lincoln; sons Todd and wife Traci of Palos Verdes Estates, CA and Chad and wife Linda of Omaha; his mother, Alma Mihm of Indianola; two sisters, Linda of Kimball and Lorette Tillemans and husband Joe of Hastings; four grandchildren Claire and Catherine Mihm of Palos Verdes Estates, CA and Morgan and Tanner Mihm of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by father, Clarence.
Rosary took place Monday, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola with Father Nicholas Baker officiating. Burial took place in St. Catherine’s cemetery in Indianola.
Memorials were to be given to the American Cancer Society.

Agnes A. Mindrup
Agnes A. Mindrup, 92, McCook, NE, formerly of rural New Almelo KS, died Friday (December 2, 2005) at the Community Hospital in McCook.
She was born March 31, 1913, in rural Norton County, the daughter of Henry J. and Elizabeth (Silke) Mindrup. She attended elementary school at St. Joseph’s Parish, New Almelo and high school in Clyde, MO. Agnes moved back home to care for her ailing mother. She and the family farmed north of New Almelo, raising 1, 000 chickens one year.
She moved to McCook, NE in 1972. She did house cleaning and custodial work for the Nebraska Public Power for 17 years.
She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Henry, Herman, John, Albert and Leo Mindrup; and two sisters, Sister Mary Alphonsa and Philomena (Minne) Mindrup.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Anna Mindrup of Salina, KS; five nephews and one niece.
Memorials were suggested in her name to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, McCook, NE.
Rosary took place at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, 7:00 p.m., with Father Gary Brethour officiating.
Mass of Christian burial took place Wednesday, December 7, 2005, 10:00 a.m., at the McCook St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Kerry Ninemire and Father Gary Brethour officiating.
Burial took place Wednesday in the St. Joseph cemetery, New Almelo, KS with Father Vincent Thu Laing conducting the service.

Paul Dean Miner
Paul Dean Miner, 68, died Friday, November 26, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Paul was born to Cecil Thompson and Mary Etta (Stitzel) Miner on December 23, 1935, on the family farm south of Cambridge, Nebraska. He attended school in Wilsonville. He joined the US Air Force in December of 1954 and became a jet mechanic.
He married
Louella Marie Urban on February 22, 1955. The couple lived in England, Japan and the United States during his 20 years of service to his country. He retired from the USAF in 1974 and moved to Indianola, Nebraska. The couple moved to McCook in 1984. He worked for almost 30 years in the McCook area in the air conditioning and heating business.
His pride and joy were his two children, Darin Miner and Paula Doyle. Both children have blessed him and Louella with two grandchildren each: Kathy and Swanlee to Darin and Bernadette Miner; Meagan and Ethan to Paula and Patrick Doyle.
Paul and Louella loved to travel this great country together by train, bus and car on tours and to visit many family and friends. They were both very involved in family history and tracking down family members and their ancestors.
Paul loved to help anyone that needed help. He would help build houses, remodel rooms, work on cars, garages and work on someone’s computer. He didn’t seem to know the word “no”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ivan and Wayne and four infant brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Louella Miner of McCook; son Darin Miner and wife, Bernadette, of McCook; daughter, Paula and husband, Patrick Doyle, of McCook; two brothers, Melvin Miner and wife, Beulah, of Grand Island and Ervin Miner of Indiana; sister Marietta Jean and husband, George Hoelscher, of McCook; and four grandchildren, Kathy, Swanlee, Meagan and Ethan.
In lieu of flowers memorials were to be given in his name.
Funeral service were Tuesday, November 30, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jason VanPelt officiating. Burial took place at Fort McPherson National cemetery in Maxwell.

Stella Arletta Miner
Stella Arletta Miner, 88, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at her home in Palisade.
She was born March 31, 1916 at Palisade to Horace and Bessie (Dillen) Jones.
She grew up, attended school and lived in Palisade all her life. On August 27, 1944 she married
Bill Miner at Atwood. She was a homemaker and took in laundry for many years. She enjoyed her family and flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill on March 11, 1984; three brothers, Orlie, Oscar and Robert; two sisters, Grace Witthoff and Wilma Price.
Survivors include: her son, Richard and wife Kellie Miner of Palisade; two grandchildren, Randall Blaine Miner of Trenton and Lindsay Brusoe and husband Adam of Culbertson; three great-grandchildren, June Rose and Austin Tyler Brusoe, and Jennah Nicole Miner; a niece, Norma Siedschlag of North Platte and a great-nephew Doug Siedschlag of North Platte.
Memorials were accepted in her name.
Graveside services at the Palisade cemetery took place Tuesday, June 22, 1:30 p.m. with Ray Ridlen officiating.

Eleska Irene (Rufenacht) Mishler
Eleska Irene Mishler died Friday, September 16, 2005 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE. She was 95 years old.
She was born July 28, 1910 to Gottfried and Emma Rose (Ummel) Rufenacht in Ransom, KS. She grew up and was educated in Kansas, became an elementary school teacher and taught piano lessons.
She was married
to John G. Mishler in Ransom, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; several brothers and sisters; and niece Dorothy Schreiber.
She was a life-long member of the Ransom Mennonite Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, custodian and played the piano for services, weddings and funerals.
She moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook in 1992 to be closer to her niece, Dorothy Schreiber.
Survivors include her two great nieces, Jane Paschall and husband Dave of Culbertson and Gail Griffin and husband Paul of Irving, TX.
Memorials were to be given to the Ransom Mennonite Church.
Funeral services were Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Mennonite Church in Ramsom, KS with Pastor Eric Buller officiating. Burial took place in the Ransom cemetery.
