Wayne Bright
Wayne Eugene Bright, 77, of Banner County, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Morrill County Community Hospital. Funeral services were Feb. 3, at the Church with Pastor Ken Boston officiating. Burial was at the Chaulk Creek cemetery in Redington, with military honors provided by Sons of the American Legion of Bridgeport. A memorial has been established in his memory. Bridgeport Memorial Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Wayne was born Mar. 25, 1926, to John Henry and Laura Bowman Bright at Hobart, Okla. Wayne grew up and attended school in Hobart, Okla. Wayne enlisted in the Army on Oct. 23, 1945, and was honorably discharged from the Army on Dec. 5, 1946. He married
Betty J. Fulce in 1950 at Cordell, Okla. The couple lived in California before making their home here in Nebraska on June 16, 1969.
Wayne loved and was very proud of his farm in Banner County. Wayne loved to fish and tell his fishing stories. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Banner County; daughter, Pam (Pat) Mooney of Harrisburg; sons, Bruce (Patty) Bright of Gering, Aaron Bright of Melbeta, and Ron (Linda) Bright of Banner County, nine grandchildren, Lance Mooney, Brian Bright, A.J. Bright, Desi Solberg, Nickie Bright, Amy Newman, Tracy Paschke, Katie Bright, and Justin Bright, five great-grandchildren, Payten Zane, Shaylee, Leah, and Brianna; brother, Marvis Bright of May, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and two sisters.
Renata Boehnke
Renata Boehnke, 78, passed away Sunday February 2, 2003 in Littleton, Colo. She was formerly of Kimball and Potter. The funeral will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1474 Maple St., Sidney, Nebr. on Thursday Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. Memorials are to the Good Shepherd Home of the West.
She was born May 18, 1923 in MacNutt, Saskatchewan Canada to Rev. and Mrs. G. H. Boehnke, formerly of Kimball. She moved to Ord, Nebr. with her family, from there to Potter, Nebr. and to Kimball. She moved to Littleton, Colo. after the death of her parents.
She was confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Potter. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Littleton. She spent many hours of her life sewing for the Good Shepherd Home of the West.
She is survived by three sisters, Rhoda Meyer, Oregon, Arlene Amy, Colo., Marcella Baack, Kimball, Nebr., one brother and wife, Rev. and Mrs. Roland Boehnke of Mission, Kan. and one sister-in-law, Wauneta Boehnke of Sidney.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edgar Boehnke.

Carl Moehr
Carl J. Moehr, 74 of Kimball, died Tues., Jan. 28, 2003 at the Kimball County Manor. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Sat., Feb. 1 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. The Rev. Ronald Nuss-Warren will officiate. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery.
Ruth Edmunds
Ruth Edmunds of Torrington, Wyo., the sister of Wilma Lockwood of Bushnell, Neb., died Jan. 28, 2003. Arrangements are pending.
Evelyn Early
Evelyn Marie Early, 93, of Scottsbluff, and formerly of the Panhandle, died January 23, 2003. She was born October 22, 1909 at Lorimor, Iowa the daughter of Phillip and Clara Alice (Sweet) Stalcup where she was raised with a Christian heritage. She became a country school teacher in Union and Madison Counties. She would cross the bridges of Madison County to arrive at school early enough to start the fire in the stove, prepare her lessons, and greet the children, including some of her nieces and nephews.
At 22, she met Harry Eugene Early of Afton, Iowa, a town thirteen miles from Lorimor. They were united in marriage on May 7, 1932 at Grant City, Iowa and then traveled to Rawlins, Wyoming to start their new life together. Some months later, the couple moved to the panhandle of western Nebraska where they raised their family.
She traveled to Cuba in the 1950’s, to Canada, Bermuda, Australia, and throughout the U.S.
She was musically inclined, an avid reader, and had a brightness about her which held her in great respect from her children and grandchildren. She and her many friends played bridge regularly. She was active in First United Methodist Church, the Newcomer’s Club, Eastern Star, and the Delphians Book Club in Scottsbluff. Her family will have lasting treasures of her quilts, knitted sweaters, crocheted and tatting pieces.
She is survived by her daughter Rev. Shirley Jean Riggs of Denver, CO; son Dr. Kendall Stewart Early of Sheridan, Wyoming; son-in-law Charles A. Riggs of Denver, CO; grandchildren Nancy Jean Ziebart of Bellevue, WA, Paul Kendall Steinkoenig of Arlington, VA, Elizabeth Marie Steinkoenig of Seattle, WA, and Thomas Joseph Steinkoenig of San Diego, CA; great-grandsons Theodore Ziebart and Alexander Ziebart both of Bellevue, WA, and Nicholas Steinkoenig of Seattle, WA; nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, two sisters, and one brother preceded her in death.
Her funeral service was Jan. 26 at The First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. Interment was Jan. 27 at Fairview cemetery in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be given to the church or the Dome Rock Eastern Star Chapter. The Jolliffe Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Jane Hill
Hazel Jane Hill, 60, died January 19, 2003, at Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care in Colorado Springs, Colo., after a year and a half battle with bone marrow cancer. A Memorial Service was Jan. 22 at Mountain View United Methodist Church in Woodland Park, Colo. Inurnment will be at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Memorial Gardens and Columbarium in Colorado Springs.
She was born May 15, 1942, in Kimball, to George Woodford (Woody) and Myrtle Jane (Bouma) Jones. Jane grew up on the family farm north of Bushnell, Neb. She attended grades 1-6 in a one-room schoolhouse at District 18. She was involved with food and clothing in 4-H and received the grand champion award one year at the county dress review. She sewed many of her own clothes in high school.
Jane graduated from Kimball County High School in 1959 and graduated with distinction from Colorado State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.
Lee Hill and Jane were married
July 6, 1963, at Jane's home church in Bushnell. They have one daughter, Kathy.
The couple lived in the Colorado mountains except for nine years on the southeastern plains. In the summer of 1978, they moved to the Woodland Park area and designed and built their dream house.
Jane was a founding member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church in Woodland Park and served as financial secretary for 17 years and was selected a "silent disciple."
Music was a great passion of her life. She was a student choir accompanist at the Bushnell school, church organist for more than 30 years and performed with her daughter at fund-raising concerts and was an instrumentalist for many occasions.
Her eight-year career as Woodland Park High School's vocal music accompanist and new interest in theatre organ was cut short by her cancer.
Other hobbies included sewing, stained glass, knitting, macramÈ and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law (Stanley and Frances Hill); and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by: Lee (husband) and Kathy (daughter) of Colorado Springs, Beth Jones (sister) of Kimball, Neb., Warren and Betty Hill (brother/sister-in-law) of Colorado Springs, Don Hill (brother-in-law) of LaJunta, Colo., Damon, Michelle, Laura and Bryan Hill (nephews and nieces), several aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.

Alvin Herman
Alvin S. Herman of Cheyenne, WY and formerly of Kimball, died Wednesday January 15, 2003 at United Medical Center-West in Cheyenne. Services were Jan. 21 at the Moose Lodge in Cheyenne. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
He was born May 13, 1933 in Madison, NE and had lived in Cheyenne since 1969. He served in the United States Army. He was a truck driver and a Member of the Moose.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Herman whom he married
April 1, 1956 in Kimball.; two daughters, Brenda Uptain of Austin, TX and Denise Lake of Cheyenne; a sister, Dellamae Krejci of Alliance, and three grandchildren, Stephanie Lake and Mark Lake both of Cheyenne and Craig Uptain of Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Josephine Herman and a sister, Evelyn Jessen.
Earl Fields
Earl Eugene Fields, 55 of Houston, Texas died there unexpectedly on Friday, January 10, 2003. Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service was Jan. 22 at the Kimball cemetery. Pastor Dwayne Hunzeker of the First English Lutheran Church will officiate. Military honors were rendered by Kimball Post 2243, V.F.W.

He was born in Russell, KS on September 10, 1947, a son of Earl and LaVera (Schneider) Fields. Earl came to Kimball with his parents when he was eight years old. He attended school here graduating from Kimball High School in 1965. Earl entered the U.S. Navy in May 1965 and served until July 1972. He lived for a short period of time in Kimball where he worked for Basin Engineering. He moved to Houston for a period of time and then returned to this area where he lived in Scottsbluff for several years.
He returned to Houston about 15 years ago. At the time of his death he was employed by Blackwell Plastics of Houston.
He is survived by one daughter, Terri Mottu of Houston, and one son Earl E. Fields and his wife Leslie of Hope Mills, NC. Also surviving is his parents LaVera and Earl Fields of Kimball, a sister Sandra and husband Bill Warden of New Castle, TX and two brothers Mark and wife Christie Fields of Orange Park, FL, and Randall and wife Sue Fields of Sidney. Also five grandchildren, Ashley, Matthew, and Jonathan Mottu, and Audrey and Jenna Fields.
LaVerna Wenger
LaVerna M. Wenger, 81 of Kimball died on Friday, January 18, 2003 at Kimball County Manor. Cremation will take place and at Mrs. Wenger's request no services will be scheduled at this time. Memorial gifts may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice in her memory. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
She was born in Hutchinson, KS on April 25, 1921 a daughter of Robert A. and Merle Joy (Thomas) Turner. She attended public schools and graduated high school in Kansas. She married
Fay Wenger in Kansas. She moved from Great Bend to Kimball after his death 20 years ago and made her home with her daughter Carol until several days ago when she entered the manor.
LaVerna was deeply involved with her family, enjoyed being at home, loved to crochet and made many Afghans. She had been baptized at the First Christian Church while living in Kansas.
She is survived by three daughters Carol and husband Pat Dunegan of Kimball, Georgia D. Gaines of Alice, TX, and Jo Lynn and husband David Ellis of Cleveland, OK, three sons; James DeWayne Wenger of Hayward, CA, Ira Eugene Wenger and Robert Allen Wenger both of Burley, MO; one sister Jean Ewing of Mission, TX. Also 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fay in 1983, one brother and one sister.
F. Wayne Brown
F. Wayne Brown, 85 of Longmont, Colo. and formerly of Kimball, died at the Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville January 16, 2003. Cremation was at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
He was born October 14, 1917 at Carlinville, Ill.
He married
Helen Lemkee December 24, 1942 at Algona, Iowa. He was the Service Manager at Hajek Chevrolet-Olds for many years and then at Mountain Truck until his retirement. He was active at the Longmont Senior Center, Longmont, Colo. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont. They moved to Longmont in 1973 from Kimball, where they were long-time residents.
Brown was a volunteer fireman in Kimball and Forest City, Iowa. He was also a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and he and Helen enjoyed square dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Helen of Longmont, sons Bruce Brown and wife Kathy of Aurora, Colo., Lyle Brown and wife Jackie of Scottsdale, Ariz., daughter Lynne Kay Slagle of Gruver, Texas, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Sat., Jan. 18, 2003 with the Reverend Marilyn Yoder Boeke officiating, at the Ahlberg Funeral chapel, Central Presbyterian Church, Longmont.

Glenn Lerwick
Glenn R. Lerwick, 83 of Albin, Wyo. died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Albin. Funeral services were Jan. 16 at Pine Bluffs Community Center with Revs. Jack Price, Robert Corfield, Sue Gillie, and Ronda Stidolph officiating.
Glenn was born April 29, 1919 in Albin. He was a farmer and rancher. He married
Phyllis Nippert on Aug. 27, 1941 in Harrisburg.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Lerwick of Albin; sons, Kenneth Lerwick of Columbia, Mo., Laurence Lerwick of Eaton, Colo., James Lerwick of Albin, Paul Lerwick of Midland, Texas and Ron Lerwick of Albin; daughters, Carol Printz of Midland, Texas and Lorraine Lerwick of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; brothers, Orville Lerwick of Cheyenne, and Harold Lerwick of New Baltimore, Mich.; sisters, Dorothy Olson of Windsor, Colo., and Esther Hopkins of Cheyenne; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William August and Hattie Lerwick, brother Melvin Lerwick, sisters Verna Jensen and Mildred Morrison, and a grandson, Britt Lerwick.

Esther Fleagle
Esther B. Fleagle, 87 of Kimball died on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at the Kimball County Manor. Funeral Services were January 10, 2003 at First English Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Dwayne Hunzeker officiating. Burial was at the Kimball cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer Association to be used locally. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
Esther was born June 26, 1915 at Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska, a daughter of Jacob and Amelia Baluska. When she was a child her family moved south of Kimball where they homesteaded. Esther attended and graduated from Kimball County High School.
She married
Earl Fleagle in Kimball on June 9, 1939. He died October 22, 2000. She was an excellent cook and had cooked for many years at the Wheatgrowers Hotel and for school district #4. For 22 years she cooked for and managed the Kimball Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church. Esther loved flowers, plants and especially the birds that would frequent her yard.
She is survived by two sons, Gordon and wife Vonda Fleagle of Northglenn, CO, and Larry and wife Joanne Fleagle of Kimball, and four daughters, Florence Fleming of Las Vegas, NV, Phyllis and husband Mike Greenwood of Kimball, Alice and husband Dan Otoupalik of Pueblo, CO, and Mary and husband Lee Conner of Alamosa, CO. Also surviving are four sisters, her twin sister, Ella Winterstein of Sierra Vista, AZ, Bertha Vogel of Cedaredge, CO, Margaret Walkoski of Oregon and Emma Halstead of Kimball; and one brother, Jacob Baluska of Bushnell. Also 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Emilia Haug-Toombs, a granddaughter Kristine Fleming and a son-in-law Gary Fleming.
Jeffrey Lundberg
Jeffrey R. Lundberg, 53, of Cheyenne, Wyo., and formerly of Albin, Wyo., died January 8, 2003 in Cheyenne where he had lived 12 years. He lived in Albin 35 years. He was a lobbyist and consultant. He was a graduate of the University of Wyoming where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He was born July 4, 1949 in Cheyenne.
In the 1970s he worked with the Wyo. Cooperative Extension Service, Ponderosa Cattle Co., and DRW, Inc. in Pine bluffs, Wyo. He was a present partner at EJ Livestock in Albin.
In the 1990s, he served in several offices for the National Association of Wheat Growers in Washington, D.C. and worked with representatives of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Trade Representative office and U.S. Dept. of State.
He was executive secretary of the Wyoming Future Farmers of America in Cheyenne; was adjunct instructor at Laramie County Community College for Agriculture Trade Policy; and worked at Lundberg Consulting and Management in Cheyenne. He was Executive director for the Wyoming Coalition for Free Enterprise and the Wyoming Agricultural Business Association.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Jean Lundberg, of Cheyenne whom he married
in Sept. 19, 1975 in Pine Bluffs, and his father, Eldon Lundberg of Albin.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Lundberg.
Memorial services were Jan. 11 at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes and cremation took place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Wyoming State FFA Officers Scholarship Fund in care of Western Bank, 1525 East Pershing Blvd. or a charity of choice.
