Bill D. Johnson
Bill D. Johnson, 73 of Gering, Neb. and formerly of Kimball, died March 11, 2002, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.
A Masonic Service was held Wednesday at Gering Memorial Chapel in Gering by the Scotts Bluff Lodge #201 AF & AM of Gering. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory.
Graveside services will be Friday, March 15 at 10 a.m. (CST) at the Greenwood cemetery in Eureka, Kan.
He was born on July 3, 1928, in Fall River, Kan. to Rex and Carol (Ryan) Johnson. He attended school in Eureka. He married
Mary Jo Webb on September 23, 1966.
He worked for Dowell Services for 18 years starting in Eureka and transferred to Kimball. He drove over the road truck for some years.
He moved to McPherson, Kansas in 1975 to start Central Acid Company, which he owned and operated for 20 years. He retired in 1995 and moved to the Scottsbluff area to be close to his family.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Kimball, and #172 in McPherson, Kansas. He also was a member of the Shriners ISIS.
He is survived by his wife Mary; daughters Barbara Barnum and husband Ed, Deb Rider and husband Don, and Brenda Specht and friend Joe all of Gering; step sons Larry Webb and wife Sally of Brighton, Colo., Ed Webb and wife Alison and Fred Webb and friend Nancy all of Grand Junction, Colo.; three grand-children; eight step grand-children; one great grand-daughter and seven step great grand-children; a sister-in-law; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ken.
Memorials have been established to the Shriners Crippled Children Hospital. Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Helen M. Rice
Helen Mary Ellis Rice, 97, died on Saturday, March 9, 2002 at her home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 13, at the First English Lutheran Church of Kimball. Cremation took place after the service and inurnment will be in Laramie, Wyo. at a later date.
She was born on February 3, 1905, at Elk Mountain, Wyo., to William David and Cordelia Elizabeth (Brooks) Ellis. She graduated from high school at Hannah, Wyo. and attended the University of Wyoming. She taught school at rural schools until her marriage. She lived for a time in Baggs, Wyo. and moved to Kimball in 1929. She later worked in the lunch program at West Elementary School in Kimball from 1958 to 1975.
She married
Daniel M. Rice November 26, 1925, in Ft. Collins, Colo. He died January 26, 1978.
She was a member of First English Lutheran Church of Kimball, where she was very active in the Lutheran Women's Society helping with smorgasbords, weddings, funerals, and fundraising dinners. She also taught Sunday school.
She belonged to the County Extension Club, the Pythian Sisters and many card clubs. She served as class parent for the 1957 graduating class of Kimball High School.
She is survived by her daughters, Danyne Killham and her husband Ken of North Platte, Peggy West of Kimball, Zita Rice Bolinger and her husband David of Scottsbluff, Codell Martinez of Denver, and Kirstine (K.C.) Eckhardt and her husband Darrell of McCook; son-in-law Lester Wilkin; 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, a son Ellis Michael Rice and a daughter Emily Ann Wilkin and two grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made to either First English Lutheran Church, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.
The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball was in charge of arrangements.
Mae C. Olsen
Harrisburg resident Mae C. Olsen, 87, died Thursday, February 7, 2002, at Beverly Health Care Center in Scottsbluff.
A memorial service was held March 9 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff, with Mike Stanfield officiating. Inurnment will be in the Redington cemetery at a later date. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff.
She was born September 17, 1914, to Joner T. and Mattie (Gibbson) Watson in Lamesa, Texas. She received her early education and graduated from high school there. After high school, she was employed in a beauty parlor in El Paso, Texas. She also worked at a local telephone company. She worked the Mexican relay board and climbed to the position of chief operator. In 1940, she transferred to Long Beach, Calif. and worked for the Avalon Telephone office at Catalinea Island, Calif. for the summer.
She married
Henry L. Olsen, Navy First Class, in Crown Point, Ind., on September 20, 1943.
She was a member of the Eastern Star Women's Bowling Association and the Banner County Volunteer Fire Department.
She is survived by her husband, Henry, of Harrisburg, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers.
A memorial has been established to the Banner County Volunteer Fire Department or to the donor's choice.
Roy Jackson
Pine Bluffs resident Ray Jackson, 86, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, in Pine Bluffs.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.
He was born August 8, 1915, in Walt Hill, Neb., to Samuel and Sylvia Jackson and had lived in Pine Bluffs for two years. He had retired as an electrician for Colorado Fuel and Iron. He also owned a filling station and motel in Bushnell.
He is survived by a son, Boyd Jackson of Topsville, Mass.; a daughter Ruby Hopka of Cheyenne; sisters Lillian Sparks of Decatur, Neb., Maxine Beebe of Pueblo, Colo. and Eunice Stecks of Cheyenne; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Jackson in 2000; his parents; three brothers Roy, Wilbur and Bob; and a sister Ruby.
Frank and Maxine Masner
Frank David Masner, 88, died Tuesday, February 26, 2002. His wife, Maxine Ellen (Pat) Messner died six days later on Monday, March 4, 2002.
A memorial service was Friday, March 8 at Cloverdale Funeral Home.
Frank Masner was born, raised and educated in Kimball to George Henry and Clara Elizabeth Flinkinger Masner.
He married
Maxine Ellen (Pat) Tridle on July 3, 1936. In 1940, they moved to Boise, Idaho, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. He worked in the heavy equipment business. In 1962, he founded and operated Arrowhead Machinery for over 20 years, with his wife, Pat, working with him.
Maxine Masner was born in Kimball to Murlain Edward Tridle and Hattie Luella Drake. After completion of her education, she married
. She and her husband operated the Mission Inn, a Boise restaurant in the late '40's and Arrowhead Machinery in the '60's and '70's. She also worked for merchants in Boise's Hyde Park District.
They are survived by son, Morgan and daughter-in-law Julie; daughter Sue Neighbors and son-in-law Steve; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Dale Bivens
Dale Joseph Henry Bivens, 63, of Kimball died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Kimball, with Pastor Tom Jacobsen officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery.
He was born November 12, 1938, in Sedgwick, Colo. to of Glen and Hilda (Laaker) Bivens. He attended school at South Divide through the 8th grade and graduated high school from Sidney.
He and Karen Ogley were married
on April 22, 1962, in Sterling, Colo. They moved to Kimball in 1963. He worked for KN Energy from May of 1964 until his retirement in 1995.
He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder, Trustee, Sunday school Superintendent, and was a sponsor of the church youth group.
He is survived by his wife Karen Bivens of Kimball; son Glen Bivens of Kimball; daughter Anna and her husband Allen Hansenof Kimball; brothers Bill and his wife Theresa Bivens of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Ed and his wife Karen Bivens of Sidney; sisters Ileen Ogley of Sterling, Colo., Betty and her husband Allan Wittig of Wayne, Neb., and Rose Ann and her husband Jim Gilroy of Dalton; and granddaughters Katie and Randi Hansen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Joe Bivens in 1972.
Memorial gifts may be made to The Lutheran Hour or to St. Jude's Research Center in care of the family.
John W. Elwell
Former Kimball resident John W. Elwell, 70, of Sidney, died Sunday, February 24, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver.
Memorial services were Monday, March 4, 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney. Inurnment was in the Greenwood cemetery in Sidney, with military graveside services by the American Legion Post #17, the DAV Chapter #40, the VFW Post #610 and Detachment 3, 1074th Truck Co. Cremation was held.
He was born June 3, 1931, to John Alois and Hazel (Westover) Elwell in Kimball. He attended school here until his family moved to Sidney in 1944. He attended school and graduated in Sidney. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and entered officer candidate school for the U.S. Marine Corps. He married
Mildred Yeakley in Scottsbluff on June 14, 1953. After being honorably discharged in 1955, he moved back to Sidney and purchased the local Dodge franchise from his father.
He is survived by his wife; son John; daughters Ann Darling of Sidney and Margaret Ropp of East Lansing, Mich. and their husbands; two sisters; 10 grandchildren and 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law.
Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church, the Ft. Sidney Colonels Scholarship Fund or the donor's choice.
Henry Erdman
Henry Erdman, 91, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering, Neb. He is the father of Mary Kimzey of Kimball.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 5, at The Immanuel United Church of Christ in Lyman, Neb., with Rev. Robert E. Smith officiating. Burial wa in Valley View cemetery in Torrington.
He was born March 10, 1910, at Scottsbluff, Neb., to David and Elizabeth (Ramig) Erdman. He grew up and attended school in the Scottsbluff area. He worked for different farmers near Scottsbluff.
On December 7, 1930, he married
Molly Rexius at Scottsbluff. In 1935, they started farming on their own near Lyman. In 1944, they moved to a farm in the Huntley area where the lived until 1973. They retired and moved to Torrington. He also sold seed corn for Funk's Deed Company for several eyars.
He had served on the Goshen Irrigation District Board of Directors. He was a member of Immanuel Untied Church of Christ in Lyman.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Mary and Ralph Kimzey of Kimball; sons Bill and his wife Linda Erdman of Torrington and a son Glenn Erdman of Torrington; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1984 and sisters Marie Holechek and Ann Brozik.
A memorial has been established to the church.
Charles M. Rohrbaugh
Kimball resident Charles M. Rohrbaugh, 89, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Milford, Neb.
Funeral services will be held at Thursday, March 7, 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery. Friends may call at the Cantrell Funeral Home on Wednesday until 8:00 PM.
He was born on February 20, 1913, in Bennet, Neb. to Charles and Minnie (Deardoff) Rohrbaugh. He was raised in that area and as a young man did farming there. He also had farmed in Wyoming.
Charles and Mary Louise Baker were married
in Kimball on October 23, 1940. She died March 19, 1993.
In 1952, he came to Kimball where he has resided ever since. He started the Rohrbaugh Farm Equipment Company, which was the Case Implement Dealership, and ran it until his retirement. After retiring, he ran a small repair shop in Kimball for several years.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He had served on the Kimball cemetery Board and had also been a member of the Kimball Fire Department.
He is survived by daughters, Anita and her husband Jim O'Hare of Beaver Crossing, Neb. and Linda and her husband Orlo Heim of Anchorage, Alaska; sister Gladys Buel of Eagle, Neb.; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and six brothers and sisters.
