Robert Stuhr

Utica resident, 85

Robert F. Stuhr, 85, of Utica died Saturday, April 28, 2001, in Utica.

He was born May 18, 1915, on the family farm east of Waco to Henry and Katherine (Schlechte) Stuhr. He was a farmer east of Waco before his retirement.

He married Lorena Gocke on Aug. 2, 1936, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Waco.

Survivors include his wife, Lorena Stuhr; sons, Allen (Yvonne) Stuhr, Arlin (Cheryl) Stuhr, and Merlin (Starlynn) Stuhr, all of Waco; brothers, Ralph (Flora) Stuhr of York and Loren (Mary Jean) Stuhr of Rising City; sister, Esther Schlueter of York; sister-in-law, June Stuhr of Waco; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Hanna; brothers, Ernie, Guss, Paul, Martin and Edgar; sisters, Mathelda Bradehoft and Bertha Wilksen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica with the Rev. Robert Gadeken officiating. Burial will be at the Utica cemetery.

Virginia Burhoop

York resident, 76

Virginia J. Burhoop, 76, of York, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at Lincoln. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.

Mark Peters

York resident, 38

Mark A. Peters, 38, of York, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in York.

He was born June 3, 1962, to Wilbur and Marian (Wiebe) Peters in Omaha. He was a 1981 graduate of Aurora High School and attended several years of under graduate college. He worked in geriatrics at several nursing homes in the Omaha area and also at the Hearthstone Care Center in York.

He is survived by his parents, Wilbur and Marian Peters of Henderson; a sister, Cheryl (Bob) Ratzlaff of Henderson; brother, Gary (Shari) Peters of Aurora; nephews, Jacob, Jerod and Dalton Peters; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 6, at the Bethesda Mennonite cemetery northeast of Henderson with the Rev. Weldon Martens officiating. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Metz Mortuary in York is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Ronne Keil

York resident, 89

Helen Ronne Keil, 89, of York, died Friday, March 30, 2001 at York.

She was born June 9, 1911 at Blue Vale in southeast York County to Charles and Minnie (Fouse) Deffenbaugh. She attended District 7 grade school and graduated from Exeter High School in 1929. She attended Peru State College where she received her teaching certificate. She then graduated from the University of Nebraska in August of 1964. She taught school for over 30 years.

On June 11, 1933 she was married to Raymond Ronne at York. To this union one son, Max Ronne, was born. They farmed in the Lushton area until 1961 until retiring to York. They enjoyed their retirement by traveling and watching their grandsons grow up. Raymond passed away on Jan. 15, 1989. On Feb. 9, 1991 she was married to Ralph Keil. He passed away on Sept. 14, 1998.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York, Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma and the York Garden Club.

Survivors include one son, Max (Karla) Ronne of Henderson; three grandsons, Greg Ronne of York, Marc (Judy) Ronne of Shelton, Ross (Michelle) Ronne of York; five great-grandchildren, Chasity, Alicia and Derek Ronne of Shelton, and Breanne and Evan Ronne of York; step-daughter, Charlene (Dave) Bristol of Fairmont; step-grandchildren, Debra (Jeff) Adelman of Columbus, Don (Linda) Bristol of Fairmont, Julie Bristol Grafton and Keith Bristol of Denver; sister-in-law, Edith (Curtis) Bristol of York; brother-in-law, Blaine (Jane) Ronne of Torrington, Wyo.; nieces, nephews, and special friend Slyvia Werth of York.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Raymond Ronne and Ralph Keil; her sister Isabel Leybold and two brothers-in-law, Elroy Leybold and Otto Opitz.

Services are 10: 30 a.m., Monday at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Kathleen Burch

Papillion resident, 76

Kathleen C. T. Burch, 76, of Papillion died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the Hospice House of Omaha.

She was born July 13, 1924, in Denver, Colo., the daughter of Cecil H. and Caroline M. (Rauwald) Cox.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Asa Ray Burch Jr.; daughter, Maureen Irmer; brothers, Gerald Cox and Robert Cox; and one great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Barrientos of Papillion; son, Steven (Diana) Burch of New Brunfels, Texas; sisters, Lola Marie Shephard of York and Dorothy Sieger of Pikeville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in Vernon cemetery near York.

Memorials may be sent to The Hospice House in Omaha, 7415 Cedar St., 68124.

Evelyn Swearingen

Florida resident, 77

Evelyn Swearingen, 77, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Muncie, Ind., died on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, in St. Petersburg.

She was born Sept. 19, 1923, at Waco to Adolph and Martha (Staehr) Peeks. She attended St. John's parochial elementary school and graduated from Utica High School in 1941. She worked at the Lincoln Air Force Base during World War II, where she met Paul W. Swearingen. They were married July 15, 1945, and moved to Muncie, Ind. Paul died in 1987.

She is survived by two sons, Rodney (Nancy) Swearingen of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Mark Swearingen of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three daughters, Rene Jones, Rhonda (Michael) Abbott, and Tami Swearingen, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Lorraine (Ralph) Naber of Waco, Elvera (John) Huston Jr. of Wichita, Kan., and Marlene (Bill) Gardner of York; sisters-in-law, Florence Peeks of York and Maurine Peeks of Medford, Ore.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Raymond and Norman Peeks.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church in Muncie, Ind. Cards may be sent to Mark Swearingen, 433 French Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46807.

Shirley E. Reed

York resident, 72

Shirley E. Reed, 72 of York, died Thursday in York. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.

Frank Styskal

Waco resident, 83

Frank H. Styskal, 83, of Waco died on Monday evening, Jan. 1, 2001, at York General Hospital in York.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1917, in rural Butler County to John and Kristina (Babacek) Styskal. He farmed for most of his life in the Waco area. He was an avid gun collector.

Survivors include two sisters, Rose Sherman and Adeline Erks, both of York, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alice McRae; and one brother, John Styskal.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in York with Bruce Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery near Benedict. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in York.

Memorials may be directed in care of the family.

Garry Jensen

Hampton resident, 49

Garry Lee Jensen, 49, died at his home in Hampton on Nov. 4, 2000.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1951, to C. Denzil and Grace (Price) Jensen in Aurora. He grew up in Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School in 1969. Garry attended Hastings Tech for one year.

He married Lois Caster on Nov. 30, 1974, at the First Christian Church in Aurora. They farmed north of Hampton for 30 years. Jensen was past president and board member of the United Co-op in Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Hampton; two sons, Randy Lee Jensen and Simon Ray Jensen, both of Hampton; two sisters, Darlene Klute of Hampton and Dianna Hinkle of Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov 8, at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Interment will be in Hampton cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Delores Witte

Delores W. (Lancaster) Witte, 62, died Thursday, July 27, 2000 at her home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1937 in Conrad and attended Crow School on the Fairfield Bench and graduated from Simms High School in 1955. She attended switchboard operator school in Omaha. She worked at National Laundry in the 1950s. On Feb. 17, 1961 she married Robert Witte in Great Falls. She attended Peace Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Carla Peterman of Gravette, Ark., Vickie Moore of Rapid City, S.D. and Kathy Tome of Great Falls; two sons, Josh Witte of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Jeff Witte of Great Falls; brother, Ronald Lancaster of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister-in-law, Iona Tracy of Henderson; and 10 grandchildren.

Matilda Tieken

York resident, 100

Matilda D. "Susie" Tieken, 100, of York died Monday, March 12, 2001, at York.

She was born July 4, 1900, south of Waco to Eilert and Catherine (Naber) Tieken and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at York. For 20 years she cleaned at the Lutheran Children's Home at Winfield, Kan., and then for five years she worked as a cook at Omaha's Lutheran Old People's Home. In 1965, she moved back to York to work at York General Hospital, then retired to take care of her mother at home. She was a member of the Senior Citizens at the York Community Center.

She is survived by a special friend and neighbor, Jenda Linn of York; nephews, Randy Tieken of Omaha and Harley Kruse of York; three nieces, Silvia Staehr of Lincoln, Flora Stuhr of York, and June Stuhr of Waco; a stepsister, Matilda Bruggeman of York; and other nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant sister, two adult sisters and five brothers.

Due to construction at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, funeral services are scheduled for 10: 30 a.m., Thursday, March 15, at St. John's Lutheran Church south of Waco with the Rev. Arthur Brinkmeyer officiating. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Building Project or to the donor's choice.

Visitation begins after 5 p.m., Tuesday, at Metz Mortuary in York.

Leroy Ihde

Leroy Ihde, 60, of Tamora, died March 30, 2000. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Seward with the Rev. Mark Cutler officiating.

Isabel Leybold

Isabel Leybold, 92, of Lincoln, formerly of York and Ogalalla, died Sunday, April 2, 2000 at Lincoln. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.

Ferdinand Regier

Ferdinand Regier, 89, of Henderson, died Sunday, April 2, 2000 at Henderson. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 5, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.
