Betty North
Chadron resident, 84
Betty M. North, 84, of Chadron died Dec. 5, 2000, at York.
She was born March 2, 1916, in Chadron to Dr. and Mrs. M. B. McDowell.
She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and member of the NU Alumni Association. She was also an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Chadron, a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Cy (Katie) North of York and Steve North of Sydney, Australia; grandchildren, Alex North of Denver, Colo., Tony North of Denver, Colo., Jacob North of Lincoln and Donald North of Sydney, Australia; sister-in-law, Lorraine McDowell; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Cy McDowell.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m., at Grace Episcopal Church in Chadron with the Rev. Lynn Orville officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood cemetery at Chadron. Memorials may be directed to Grace Episcopal Church in Chadron or to The Hearthstone in York. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.
Catherine Demel
Central City resident, 87
Susan Catherine Demel, 87, lifelong resident of Central City, died Saturday, Nov. 18, at Long Term Care in Central City.
She was born June 21, 1913, in Central City to George and Elner (Price) Reeves. She graduated from Central City High School. After completing her education, she worked at the law office of Walter Raecke.
On Sept. 1, 1956, she married
Hubert M. Demel in Central City. They owned and operated Demel and Company Insurance and Abstracting. After their retirement in 1970, they continued to live in Central City. Hubert died on July 25, 1996.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Central City and was church organist for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 200, was a past matron and held district offices in the Pioneers Past Matrons Club.
Survivors include one son, John (Sandra) Demel of Westerville, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Frieda Reeves of Central City, Lilian Jones of Columbus, Ohio, and Alice Demel of Durango, Colo.; two grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, George E. "Red" Reeve and one sister, Elfie Stines.
Memorial services were Monday, Nov. 20, at 10: 30 a.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Dale Sallans officiating. A private family interment will be held at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the United Presbyterian Church Organ Maintenance Fund.
Matilda Stahr
York resident, 99
Matilda Friedarika Stahr, 99, of York died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Fairmont.
She was born Sept. 9, 1901, on a farm near Waco to Henry and Dorathea (Wiese) Naber.
She married
Walter Stahr on April 21, 1923, at St. John's Lutheran Church south of Waco. The couple farmed in the Waco and York areas until retirement. Walter died in 1985. Matilda was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York.
She is survived by one daughter, June (Robert) Knipfel of York; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, four brothers and five sisters.
Due to construction at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in York Friday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in York. Memorials can be sent in care of the family. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.
Agatha Boyd
Perkins Pavilion resident, 82
Agatha C. Boyd, 82, of Perkins Pavilion died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Perkins Pavilion.
She was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Humboldt, S.D., to Charles and Mary (O'Connell) Feyder. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1936. While in high school, she worked as a switchboard operator and played the piano for silent movies at the local theater. She was also a switchboard operator at Sioux Falls, S.D., at the Cataract Hotel.
On June 22, 1940, she married
Earl E. Boyd in Sioux Falls, S.D. She moved to Ogallala in 1941 and lived in North Platte and Great Falls, Mont., before moving to Hastings, in 1950. She worked for Nash Finch Company, Hillcrest Jack & Jill an for a short time was a switchboard operator for the Clark Hotel. In 1962, she became the switchboard operator at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1987. Her husband died in 1987. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, all in Hastings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; one son, Richard; and two sisters.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon (Max) Hecht of Juniata, and Kathy (Dean) Clark of York; son, Neal (Joyce) Boyd of Johnson Lake; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, Dec. 11, at 10: 30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Larry Gyrha officiating. Interment will be in Parkview cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be sent to Hastings Catholic Schools or Good Samaritan Village Alzheimer's Unit. A book signing will be Sunday, Dec. 10, from 1 to 6 p.m. Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Olive L. (Hirsch) Muzzy, 88, of Bellevue, Wash., formerly of the Gresham area, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Bellevue. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.
Harold Abresch
York resident, 78
Harold C. Abresch, 78, of York, former longtime Thayer area farmer, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at York. He was born Oct. 21, 1922, near Gresham to George and Marie (Hinze) Abresch.
On Aug. 20, 1944, he was married
to Laura Gruber at Thayer. Harold is a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at York.
Survivors include his wife Laura of York; son Dewaine of York; two daughters, Carolyn (Lewellen) Nielsen of Osceola and Linda Sternberg and her fiance Duane Schroeder of Lincoln. Also surviving are six grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother and son-in-law.
Due to the construction at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, funeral services will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church in York on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Art Brinkmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.

Pandora M. Holt, 74, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Monday, April 22, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction.
She was born Jan. 31, 1928, in York. Her parents were Royald R. Morgan and Lucretia A. Chambers Morgan of York. Pandora was married
Aug. 15, 1948, to Carvel Holt, and they had one son, Morgan J. Holt.
She is survived by her husband, Carvel; her son, Morgan; daughter-in-law, Cindi; and two grandsons, Jay and Nathan of Phoenix, Ariz.
Pandora grew up in York where she attended high school and met her husband while attending York College. She worked for the Nebraska Book Store for several years and was a homemaker in Arvada, Colo. They moved to the valley in 1980 and she spent many years traveling with her husband. She was a historian and an avid reader with interests in travel, genealogy, antiques and American and English history.
Services will be graveside at the old Swede cemetery, Bethesda Lutheran, in York at 2 p.m. on April 27. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Bethesda Lutheran cemetery or Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, c/o McLean Funeral Home, Box M, Palisade, Colo. 81526.
Robert F. May
Denver resident, 85
Robert F. May, 85, of Denver, Colo., died Friday, March 16, 2001, in Denver.
He was born Jan. 30, 1916, at York to Grover C. and Clara (Foster) May. He graduated from York High School in 1934. He attended the University of Chicago on an academic scholarship from 1934 to 1936, then returned to Nebraska to attend York College from 1936 to 1939, receiving the A.B. degree in 1939.
He married
his high school sweetheart, Imogene E. Harms, on July 8, 1938. He attended one year of Law School at the University of Nebraska before finding employment as the principal and athletic coach at a school in Litchfield. He continued his employment as a teacher and coach until 1943 when he applied for officer training in the U.S. Navy. He was accepted by the Navy and traveled to Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., for officer training. He served in the Navy until 1946. He landed troops during the D-day invasion and then sailed his LCT through the Panama Canal to the Pacific Theater where he observed the effects of the atomic bomb in Japan and spent the rest of his service in World War II.
He returned to the University of Nebraska Law School and graduated on Jan. 31, 1948. He found employment with the Teamsters Union in Denver, serving as a labor lawyer, later becoming involved in medical claims administration and eventually opening his own firm, the Robert F. May Company, in 1959. His company continues today in the field of medical claims administration.
He is survived by two sons, Robert S. May and Gregory A. May, both of Denver; one daughter, Marcia Rollins of Santa Cruz, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard May of York; and one sister, Helen Augustine of Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one grandson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, March 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Rev. Harry Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mary Alice Drudge
Indiana resident, 71
Mary Alice Drudge, 71, of Goshen, Ind., died Tuesday, March 12, 2002.
She was born April 4, 1930, at Harrison Township, Ind., the daughter of Alonzo and Elizabeth (Tyson) Overholser. She married
Russell Drudge on Dec. 24, 1951.
She worked as an insurance agent, homemaker and in bail bonds. She was a member of the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren, numerous professional insurance associations, and was a 1948 graduate of Wakarusa High School.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Sandy Bates of Goshen, Ind.; two sons, Mark Drudge of York (publisher of the York News-Times) and Michael (Susan) Drudge of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Willard Overholser of Goshen, Ind.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Claude, Marion and Lowell Overholser; and two sisters, Lois Hooley and Fern Overholser.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, at the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial will be at the Yellow Creek cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America and the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren.

Ronald Charles Krejci, 73, of Fairmont died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Fairmont.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1929, at Fairmont, the son of Charles and Velma (Kouba) Krejci.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Fairmont; sons, Ken Krejci of Fairmont, John Krejci of Easton, Penn.; daughter, Sheryl (Mic) Goc of Fairmont; sisters, Lorene (Guy) Brown of Lincoln, Ione Krejci of Lincoln; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, at Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont. Visitation will begin Wednesday, April 24, from 11: 30 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva. A military graveside service will be held at Fairmont Public cemetery in Fairmont. Officiating is the Rev. Betsy Galloway Carew. Memorials may be designated for the American Cancer Society.

He was born to Henry and Mary (Lutz) Arbuck on July 5, 1917, at Exeter.
Survivors include his wife, Zesta Arbuck of York; daughter, Brenda (Tim) Hall of Sutton; brother, Russell Arbuck of McCool Junction; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m., at Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont. Signing of the book (only) will start at 1 p.m., and last until 9 p.m., on Sunday, at the Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Memorials may be made in care of the family, in lieu of flowers. Graveside services will be held at the Fairmont Public cemetery, Fairmont. The Rev. Betsy Gallaway-Carew is officiating.
