Bethany A. Kavan, age 16, was born to Dale and Tamara “Tammi” Kavan on January 4, 1995 in Fremont, NE. She attended St. Wenceslaus Elementary School and was currently a junior at Bishop Neumann Central Catholic High School in Wahoo, NE. Bethany loved and took special care of her horses Kevin, Dude and Lolly. She was a member of the Bishop Neumann Dance Team, National Honor Society, T.O.R.C.H. Club, American Quarter Horse Association, and seven year member of 4-H where she belonged to the Colon Hustlers and Platte Valley Wranglers. Bethany was a past member of the Bishop Neumann softball, volleyball, track, and basketball teams. She was also a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wahoo.
Bethany was preceded in death by her mother Tamara “Tammi” Kavan and grandfather Dewain “Joe” Sanderson. She is survived by her father Dale Kavan of Colon, NE, brothers and sisters in law, Aaron and Elizabeth Kavan and daughter Bridget of York, NE, Jordon and Amber Kavan of Aurora, NE, grandparents, Wanda Sanderson and friend Willard Beckman of Malcolm, NE, Vennie and Mary Ann Kavan of Wahoo, NE, special friend, Travis Carnahan of Wahoo, NE, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Erma A. Bartek was born November 7, 1919 in Garrison, NE to Anton and Mary (Cemper) Shonka. Her family moved to Bellwood, NE when she was seven. She attended Presentation Catholic School through tenth grade. Following school, she worked as a telephone operator in David City and later in Wahoo. She was united in marriage to Al Bartek on July 23, 1946 at the Presentation Catholic Church in Marietta. They lived east of Wahoo until moving into Wahoo in 1952. She was the ladies clothing manager at JCPenney in Wahoo until the store closed. Then she began doing sewing and tailoring for many people in the community, including all of the tailoring for Lindley Clothing Stores. Erma also enjoyed painting and was very talented at gardening, canning and wine making. She drew the covers for the Hospital Auxiliary salad luncheon pamphlets for 25 years. Erma was very active in her church and prayed the rosary at the Haven House and South Haven until her health failed.
Erma was a parishioner of St. Wenceslaus Church, a member of the Altar Rosary Society, of which she served as president for 20 years, a member of the Saunders County Historical Society, Wahoo Garden Club and was a 4-H leader and den mother for Cub Scouts. On December 19, 2011, at the age of 92, Erma passed away at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo.
Erma is survived by her sons, Vaughn Bartek, Las Vegas, NV, Rick Bartek, Waverly, NE, Kirk Bartek, Weston, NE; daughter and son in law, Denise "Dee" and Ron Malousek, Raymond, NE; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband Alphonso; daughter, Renee Marie; brother, Val Shonka; sisters Caroline Adamy and Mary Allen.

Donald F. Arney was born August 3, 1930 in Wahoo to John L. and Viola (Lineberry) Arney. He grew up in Wahoo and attended elementary and high school at Wahoo Public Schools. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served two separate active duty tours from September 1949 to May 1950 and November 1950 to November 1951. On January 2, 1951, Don was united in marriage to Bonita Zetocha in Council Bluffs, IA. With the exception of two years in California, they made their home in Wahoo. Don worked as a mechanic for the Nebraska Department of Roads for 33 years, retiring in 1992.
After retirement, Don kept busy repairing lawn mowers, tractors and about anything else for friends and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, deer (bow) hunting and liked to make his own deer salami. He also liked to tell jokes and stories. Don was a past member of the American Legion Post #82.
Don is survived by wife Bonita; daughter and son in law, Diane and Marvin Ourada, Prague, NE; sons and daughters in law, Donald Arney Jr., Michael and Kimberly Arney, all Wahoo, James and Michelle Arney, Tallahassee, FL; sons in law, Randy Abbott and Jim Slosser, both Wahoo; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by sons John and Raymond; daughters, Laurie Jensen and Kathy Abbott; grandsons, Randy Abbott, Jason Hutson; brothers, Bill, Robert, Earl and John Arney; sisters, Betty Hughes, Dorothy Hughes, Eva Dokulil.

Mary Ann Johnson was born April 6, 1934 in Weston, NE to Rudolph and Agnes (Jakub) Ludvik. When Mary Ann was five years old, the family moved to a farm southwest of Wahoo. She attended District #87 country school and St. Wenceslaus Elementary School. She was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Johnson on August 30, 1952 in Wahoo. She has lived in Wahoo since then. Besides being a housewife, she was a loyal caretaker for her mother for many years. Mary Ann passed away December 14, 2011 at her home at the age of 77 years. She was a parishoner at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Mary Ann is survived by brother and sister in law, George and Betty Ludvik, Wahoo; sisters and brother in law, Agnes Kavan, Colon, NE, Dorothy and Melvin Kavan, Morse Bluff, NE; sister in law, Lillian Ludvik, Wahoo; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd L. Johnson; brother Rudy Ludvik; infant brother Leonard Ludvik; brother in law, Albert Kavan.

Max L. Steinbach was born January 31, 1918 in Prague, NE to Joseph J. and Rose (Polacek) Steinbach. Max grew up on the family farm north of Prague and attended a country school near there. He worked for many people in and around Prague doing all kinds of jobs. Often, he helped area farmers, and was always willing to help his brother John, when he needed help around the farm. He also collected and recycled aluminum cans for many years. He could be seen around ball games collecting and cleaning up cans that he would later sell. Max passed away December 12, 2011 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo at the age of 93 years. Max was a fixture around Prague for many years. He was always friendly and would say, "Hi, my name is Max". You would never see him without his trademark bib overalls. Max was a lifelong parishoner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague.
Max is survived by brother, John Steinbach, Wahoo; sister, Agnes Janecek, Weston, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Steinbach; and sisters, Rose Slama and Adeline Spicka.

Ronald D. Jarrett was born March 25, 1947 in Auburn, NE to George and Myrtle (Waldrup) Jarrett. He grew up in Auburn and attended elementary and high school there. After high school, he began his lifelong career as a truck driver. He drove for several trucking companies through the years including Monfort and Insulfoam, Inc. He last drove for Double S Trucking of Avoca, IA. Ron married Sharon DeFreece on December 31, 1988 in Nebraska City, NE. Ron passed away December 10, 2011 at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo at the age of 64 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2971. Ron loved to go fishing and camping with his family, especially at Merritt Reservoir. He enjoyed teasing and picking on everybody (and they enjoyed it too).
Ron is survived by his wife Sharon; children and spouses, Roxanne and Mark Meduna, Wahoo, Vicki Reed, Council Bluffs, IA, David Newton, Omaha, Joyce Jones and Bob Small, Claremore, OK, Eddie and Nicole Jarrett, Auburn, NE, Sheila and Frank Lindberg, Matt Newton, Amy and Michael Henner, all of Omaha, Ronnie and Veronica Jarrett, Wahoo, Michael and Brandi Jarrett, Lincoln, NE, Debrora and Glen Wilcox, Wahoo, Tina Schneider, Council Bluffs; 18 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. Theodore “Ted” Slemin, age 87, was a resident of rural Ceresco, NE. He was born June 26, 1924 in Prague, NE to Joseph and Rose (Rehak) Slemin. Ted attended District School #76 southwest of Weston, NE and Weston High School. He loved to go dancing every Saturday night at the Pla Mor Ballroom in Lincoln. He also enjoyed going fishing on the Blue River near Crete, NE and Gavins Point Damn near Yankton, SD. In his early years Ted farmed west of Davey, NE and then later farmed southwest of Ceresco, NE. On Friday, December 9, 2011, Ted passed away at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, NE.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Stanley and Frank Slemin, sister in law, Mary Slemin. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Vladimir Slemin of Ceresco, NE, Eleanor and husband Donald Jelinek, Rosemarie Slemin, Celestine Slemin all of Wahoo, NE, Leonard Slemin of Ceresco, NE. sister in law, Dorothy Slemin of Wahoo, NE, many other relatives and friends.

Donna L. Maly was born October 17, 1941 in Colon to John and Marie (Jurgens) Severyn. She grew up in Fremont, NE and attended Washington Elementary School and Fremont High School. Donna worked at the Safeway store in Fremont for a time. She was married to Donald P. Maly on October 18, 1966. They made their home in Wahoo. She worked several jobs including in the meat department at a Safeway store in Lincoln, at the Eagles Club in Wahoo in the kitchen, managing Beckman’s Liquor Store in Wahoo and she drove the ambulance for several years for the Saunders County Hospital. Donna started the Block Mothers Program which provided a safe place for children and she helped out at the museum for the Saunders County Historical Society. Donna passed away suddenly on December 8, 2011 at the Saunders Medical Center at the age of 70 years. Donna always got excited when her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. She loved having company and always had plenty to eat for everyone. She enjoyed baking, canning and embroidery, making pillow cases, kitchen towels and other items. Bowling was a favorite hobby of hers and she bowled in leagues for many years.
Donna is survived by her children and spouses, Randy and Janet Maly, Doreen and Doug Peterson, and Ron Maly, all of Wahoo; grand children, Krysia (Jack) Gannon, Kara (Josh) Hardy, Timothy Peterson and Marissa Maly; great grandchildren, Mason, Julia and Lucy; sisters, Joann Novotny, Valparaiso, NE, Carol (Leroy) Hass, Fremont, NE, brother Jack Severyn, Platte Center, NE; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald P. Maly; son Scott Maly; sisters, Darlene Ayers and Kay Novotny; and sister in law Carol Severyn.
