Ethal Ale Davis, 97

(Aug. 22) GREELEY, Colo. - Ethel Ale Davis, 97, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo. She was born July 18, 1906, at Lancaster County, Neb. Her parents were Jessie Mae (Leamons) and Leve Howell Jones.

She attended schools in Hemingford. She was married to Richard L. Ale on June 9, 1924. Mr. Ale died Feb. 2, 1955. She was married to Ray W. Davis on March 3, 1956. Mr. Davis died Sept. 25, 1977. During the 1940s and early 1950s, she and husband Richard Ale owned and operated Ale's Feminine Fashions, a women's apparel store in Alliance, Neb. They also owned stores in Crawford, Hay Springs and Newcastle, Wyo. The couple moved to Denver in the 1950s. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Greeley Assistance League and Altar Guild in Greeley. She is survived by her daughter, Joan McDonald of Naples, Fla.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Bob L. Ale; and five brothers, Robert, Floyd, Earl, Elton and Leve Jones.

Mrs. Ale Jones' funeral was Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley. Allnut Funeral Service of Greeley was in charge of arrangements.

Dale E. Justice, 84

(Aug. 23) SCOTTSBLUFF - Dale Eugene Justice, 84, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Western Nebraska Veteran's Home. He was born March 16, 1917, at Dixon. His parents were Eugene Bertram and Amy Minerva (Jordan) Justice.

He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1935. He served in World War II from February 1941 until May 1945. He joined the Nebraska Safety Patrol in 1945, and served in the Alliance, Scottsbluff and Sidney areas. He married Dorothy Mae Dean March 11, 1947. He married Mary Jean (Miller/Phelps) Weinbender March 13, 1965. She preceded him in death. He was a member of the Scottsbluff and Sidney Elks Lodges, Mason's Lodge 201, V.F.W. and First United Methodist Church at Scottsbluff. He is survived by one daughter, Candy Croasdaile of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sons, Warren Justice of Bakersfield and Russell Justice of Palmdale, Calif.; step-daughters, Lucinda Jean Spencer of Morrill and Judith Ann McGregor of Everett, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great grandson.

Mr. Justice's funeral will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24, at the Veteran's Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Murithi officiating. Masonic Rites will be given by Scottsbluff Lodge #201. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery at Scottsbluff, with Military Rites by Admiral Dewey V.F.W. Post 1681. Visitation will be at Jolliffe Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 23, and 8 a.m. to noon, Friday, Aug. 24. A memorial has been established to the Nebraska State Patrol Foundation, designated to Nebraska Panhandle Troop E for educational purposes.

Herman Trauernicht, 83

(Aug. 23) YORK - Herman Trauernicht, 83, former pastor in the Alliance area, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at York. He was born June 27, 1919, at Anselmo. His parents were Herman and Bertha (Farner) Trauernicht.

He married Joan Nelson on May 31, 1931, at Gering. During his early years, he farmed in Eustis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military policeman. While employed by John Deere in Bertand, he served a a lay pastor for two churches. He then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the Cotner School of Religion, and was ordained in the Christian Church n 1970. He served the First Christian Church in York for move than 11 years, retiring in 1984, after which he served as interim pastor for serveral churches and as a fill-in minister for his minister friends throughout Nebraska. He was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Joan R. Trauernicht of York; his daughter O'Della Jo Taylor of Greensboro, N.C. his son Alan Kent Trauernicht of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his sister Pansy Hall of Mitchell.

Mr. Trauernicht's memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at the First Christian Church in York, with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating. Memorials may be made in care of Hospice of Tabitha Healthcare Services or the First Christian Church of York. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of arrangements.

Dennis M. Ashby, 85

(Aug. 24) ALLIANCE - Dennis M. Ashby, 85, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Highland Park Care Center. He was born July 7, 1916, at Holstein, Nebraska to LeRoy and Ada Mae (McCombs) Ashby.

He was the youngest of four children. After graduating from school, Denny worked for his father who sold cars and managed a garage. He then went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a conductor. He retired with over 40 years of service. After retirement he and his wife spent their summers in the Black Hills where he was a conductor for the 1880 Train of the Black Hills. He married Ada Lemburg on May 17, 1940, at Grand Island, Neb. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Burlington Vets. His survivors are his wife, Ada; sons and wives, Ronald and Mary Ashby of Carrollton, Texas, Jan and Nancy Ashby of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; grandchildren, Deanna Kral, Jill Morken, John Ashby and Lisa Norris; and five great grandchildren. His parents, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alliance. The Reverend Mark Schutt will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Due to health reasons the family will not be able to receive friends at their home but they will be at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday for those who wish to see them. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice, P.O. Box 21, Alliance or to the United Methodist Church, 704 Box Butte, Alliance. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gayle L. Craig, 68

(Aug. 24) CRAWFORD - Gayle L. Craig, 68, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron. She was born June 12, 1933, at Scottsbluff. Her parents were Harry and Letha (Jolley) Craig.

She was married to Dirk Moore. Mr. Moore preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Harold McMickle of Austin, Texas, and Donald Hardin of Abilene, Texas; daughters Colette Olson of Austin, Texas, and Julie and Jana Hardin of Clyde, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Craig's funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Chamberlain Chapel in Crawford, with Pastor Mike Stotts officiating. Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Crawford Rescue Unit, in care of Chamberlain Chapel, 607 Fourth St., Crawford, NE 69339.

Ruth M. Flood, 59

(Aug. 24) ALLIANCE - Ruth M. Flood, 59, of Alliance died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Regional West Medical Center. She was born July 24, 1942, in Alliance to Dennis and Irene (Guerue) Flood.

Her survivors include her mother, Irene Flood of Alliance, brothers Wayne Flood of Scottsbluff and Edward Flood of Allen, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her father, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Indian Mission Church of God. Reverend George Guerue and Linda Abold will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. A two-night wake service will begin Saturday evening at the church. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Orletha Weaver Schadwinkel, 90

(Aug. 24) ALLIANCE - Orletha Weaver Schadwinkel, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 14, 1911, at Surprise, NE to Edna (Shrader) and Ray Weaver.

After her fatherās death and her mother's marriage to Charles Starn, the family moved to Alliance where Orletha attended school, graduating from Alliance High in 1928. She married Albert E. Schadwinkel in 1929 and they operated Schad's Bakery together until Albert's death in 1962. She continued running the bakery until 1965. Orletha was an active member in the United Methodist Church all her life, serving as president of the United Methodist Women several times and served on committees and in circle. She was also a member of the Aloyah Chapter of Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron's Club, PEO Chapter AH, RSVP, and a hospital volunteer. She was preceded by her husband, daughter Kathryn Vorhies, and two infant great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Emil (Ted) and Lola Schadwinkel, Charles and Mary Schadwinkel all of Alliance, nine grandchildren and fourteen grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Reverend Mark Schutt officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established to the United Methodist Women or to a charity of the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Laurence E. Storjohann, 89

(Aug. 24) CHADRON - Laurence E. Storjohann, 89, died Thursday, Aug. 23, at his home in Chadron. He was born June 4, 1912, at Phoenix, Ariz. His parents were Carl and Ernestine (Stumer) Storjohann.

He attended grade school in Spencer, Neb., and high school in Prairie Grove, Ark. He married Dora Soenichsen on Aug. 26, 1932. Mrs. Storjohann preceded him in death. He farmed with horses in the Spencer area until 1941 when the Brand Inspection Committee employed him. He later operated auctions in Atkinson and South Dakota, before retiring to Chadron in 1979. He married Alma Kircheval in 1996. He is survived by his wife, Alma of the home in Chadron; daughter Rosemarie Storjohann-Stewart of Rapid City, S.D.; eight granddaughters; and 11-great-grandchildren. His brother, Don Storjohann of Sun City, Calif, also survives him.

Mr. Storjohann's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Chadron, with Pastor Peter Bertram officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of First National Bank of Chadron. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.

David Daniel Schekall, 31

(Aug. 25) David Daniel Schekall, 31, died Saturday, August 23, 2003, in an automobile accident west of Hay Springs. He was born December 28, 1971, at Alliance, Nebraska to Jim and Donna (McKenna) Schekall.

He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1990 and The University of Kansas at Lawrence. He had studied abroad in Spain, and at Drexel University at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the past few years, he returned to Hemingford where he farmed and ranched. He is survived by his parents of Hemingford; sister and brother-in-law, Caren and Tom Grandgenett of Merriam, Kansas; sisters, Susan Schekall-Clark of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Mary E. Broad of North Platte, Nebraska; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Shelley Schekall of Hutchinson, Kansas, Stanley and Regina Schekall of Santa Clara, California, and Joseph and Lisa Schekall of Hemingford, Nebraska; and sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Chris Taylor of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is also survived by his fiancŽe Jennifer Wright, and her daughter Kalen of Crawford, Nebraska; 16 nieces and nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the St. Bridget Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. A wake service will be Tuesday, August 26, at 7 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Hay Springs Volunteer Fire Department, or the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Frieda Debus, 92

(Aug. 25) ALLIANCE - Frieda Debus, 92, former resident of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center at Alliance. Frieda was born May 22, 1911, at Rouche Harbor, Washington to Jacob and Elizabeth (Denies) Schlager.

The family moved to Mitchell when she was a young child. She married John Debus on July 8, 1930, at Mitchell, Neb. They farmed together in the Mitchell and Torrington, Wyo., areas until 1964. They then moved to Scottsbluff where she worked at the CO-OP bakery along with being a housewife, mother, and grandmother. They then moved to Alliance in 1996. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, needlework, camping with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, playing cards, and was an avid Bingo player. She is survived by her son, Vernon Debus of Winner, S.D.; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Debus of Alliance; daughter, Nancy Huckfeldt of Sheridan, Wyo.; brothers, Reuben Schlager of The Dalles, Ore., Robert and Harry Schlager, both of Cheyenne, Wyo., Bill Schlager of Torrington, Wyo., and Lawrence Schlager of Aurora, Colo.; sisters, Rose Schwartz of Honolulu, Hawaii, Hilda Heinrich of Chadron, Clara Costopoulos of Torrington, Wyo., and Wilma Ward. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 son-in-law, 2 grandsons, brothers, Walter, Victor, Alex, Albert, Elmer, and Ted Schlager, and 1 sister, Pauline Helzer.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at Alliance. Reverend Ron Nuss-Warren will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. There will be a dinner at noon at the church. All family members and friends, who wish to, are encouraged to come. Memorials may be given to the Good Samaritan Health Care Center, Prairie Haven Hospice at Alliance or Scottsbluff, or to the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Harry Hosey, 88
(August 26) OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - Harry Hosey, 88, died Monday, Aug. 21, at home in Old Hickory, Tenn. He was born at Taber, Alberta, Canada. His parents were Patrick and Anna Hosey. He was married to Alice (Brittan) Hosey, formerly of Alliance. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Alice; eight sons Patrick Hosey of St. Louis, Willam Hosey of Hermitage, Tenn., Larry Hosey of Old Hickory, Harry Hosey of Lexingotn, Ky., Michael Hosey of Goodiettsville, Tenn., Charles Hosey of Cotati, Calif., John Hosey of Savannah, Ga., and Kevin Hosey of Knoxville, Tenn.; six daughters Barbara Joern of St. Louis, Sharon Seckman of Old Hickory, Colleen Geisiann of Highland, Ill., Mary Ellen Champlin of Nashville, Wanda Baker of Greensboro, N.C. and Maureen Williams of Murray, Ky.; 52 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. His first wife, Mary (Tuohy) Hosey, died in 1951. Mr. Hosey's memorial service was Thursday, Aug. 24, at St. Joseph's Cathlic Church, South Madison, Tenn, with Rev. Ed Steiner officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas, 208 Leake Ave., Nashville, Tenn. 37205; Fr. Robert Milo Blood, 54

(Aug. 26) BEATRICE - Robert Milo Blood, 54, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at his home in Beatrice. He was born Aug. 16, 1949, at Nebraska City. His parents were Clyde and Betty Jean (Blevins) Blood Sr.

He graduated from Hyannis High School in 1967. He moved to Thermopolis, Wyo., and worked as a ranch hand, and then returned to Hyannis and was employed by Panhandle Rural Electric until 1973 when he became a mail carrier and a mechanic in his father's service station. In 1987, he moved to Nebraska City and became the golf course equipment mechanic for Offutt Air Force Base. In 1993, he moved to Beatrice to babysit for his niece and nephews. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 531. He is survived by four daughters, Michelle Olsen of Delaware, April Blood of Arizona, and Dawn Harvey and Lola Kalivas, both of Wyoming; and five grandsons. He also is survived by sisters Betty June Blood of Alliance, and Lillian Baxter and Virginia Cornish, both of Seattle, Wash.; and brother Clyde Blood Jr. of Beatrice.

Mr. Blood's memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Hartman-Wright Mortuary Chapel in Beatrice, with Pastor David Bigley officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Whitman Cemetery. Memorials may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Herman-Wright Mortuary of Beatrice is in charge of arrangements.

Tony J. Wilkins, 37

(Aug. 26) RUSHVILLE - Tony Jay Wilkins, 37, of Rushville died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, west of Hay Springs. He was born Oct. 14, 1965, at Alliance. His parents were Lonnie Edward and Sandra Jean (Hunzicker) Wilkins.

He married Jill Strotheide on June 15, 2000. He attended grade school in Marsland, and graduated from Hemingford High School in 1984. He is survived by his wife, Jill Wilkins of Chadron; father Lonnie Wilkins of Crawford; and two daughters, Hally Wilkins and Hayden Wilkins, both of Chadron. He also is survived by his brother, Scott Wilkins of Chadron; and his sister. Trish Wilkins of Marsland.

Mr. Wilkins' funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Crawford Community Building, with Rev. Jim Day officiating. Burial will be in Marsland Cemetery at Marsland. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to his children, in care of First National Bank of Gordon at Gordon. Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements.
