Clara R. Hoshor

Clara R. Hoshor, age 87, of Fremont, Nebraska formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday April 23, 2002 at the Nye Point Nursing Center in Fremont. Funeral Services are 9: 00 a.m. Saturday April 27, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is after 5: 00 p.m. Friday with a 7: 30 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Saturday from 8: 00 - 8: 45 a.m. also at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to St. Bonaventure Church or the Donors Choice.

Clara was born April 15, 1915 to Steve and Teckla (Wilcynski) Synowski. She attended school in Sherman County, Nebraska. She married Wayne H. Hoshor August 10, 1935 at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. She worked in several places, Short Mfg. from 1949 - 1959, Dale Electronics from 1960 - 1964, Fleischer Drug for 3 years and at Goodrich Dairy from 1970 - 1980 when she retired.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church since 1934, and was involved in Nocturnal Adoration and Legion of Mary. She was also a VFW Auxiliary member.

Arlen Hiatt

Arlen Hiatt, age 74 of Columbus died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at his home in rural Columbus. Funeral services are 1: 00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Tom Weisbecker will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Kent Cemetery located in Taylor, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday 5-8 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. A vigil will be held at 8: 00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Visitation will continue 12: 00 noon until service time at the church.

Arlen Laverne Hiatt was born May 21, 1927 to Clifton B. and Gladys N. (Ransom) Hiatt in rural Chase County, near Champion, Nebraska. He attended school throught the 8th grade at Champion and graduated from Imperial High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1946.
He married Kathleen Marie Van Wormer in 1947 at Duduque, Iowa. He worked as a farm & ranch hand and as a rodeo contestant & announcer. He showed, trained and shod horses. He also worked as a brick layer. His life long love has been horses. It all started at an early age. He rode horses to school in his early years. He trained race horses for the past 30 years. he has several stake winners, such as Red Black Kettle, Shelly Bo and Ramlin Indian. In 1999 his horse, Neraks Eman was the Champion 2 year old in the State of Nebraska and is also in the Nebraska Racing Hall of Fame. He enjoyed writing poetry. He lived in Burwell for 12 years and in the Bellwood and Columbus areas the past 13 years.

Martha A. Fox

Martha A. Fox, 68, of Columbus died Saturday April 20, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Memorial services are 10: 00 am Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Wednesday morning from 9 am until service time. Inurnment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Mary was born August 9, 1933 in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska to Sylvester and Isabelle (Bogus) Czuba. She was raised in Cedar Rapids before moving to Columbus where she attended St. Anthony Grade School . She attended the Sisters of St. Francis Convent in Colorado Springs, CO before returning to Columbus where she attended St. Bonaventure High School. On November 13, 1967 she married Richard Fox in Iowa. The couple lived on a farm outside of Riceville, Iowa where she was a homemaker. She moved to Columbus in 1987 where she worked part time at Ted's Tea Room and Micek's Shangri-la. She enjoyed sewing and crossword puzzles. She attended St. Anthony's Church.

Frank Leonard Johnson

Frank Leonard Johnson, 91, died Wednesday April 24, 2002 at the Genoa Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Monday April 29 at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-7 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9: 30 am until service time at the Church. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery in rural Monroe. Memorials are suggested to the New Hope Cemetery or to the Monroe United Methodist Church.

Leonard Johnson was born August 17, 1910 in Monroe to Erick and Edith B. (Keeler) Johnson. He was raised in Platte County and graduated from school in Monroe in 1937. He farmed in Platte county for over 60 years. He was a member of the Okay Church in rural Monroe, the United Methodist Church in Monroe, the Methodist Brotherhood, the Lions Club, and served on the New Hope Cemetery Board.

LaVern Christie

LaVern Christie, 46, died Friday November 9, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 11: 00 am Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is on Sunday from 4-8: 00 pm at McKown Funeral Home and on Monday from 10 am until service time.

LaVern Christie was born February 17, 1955 in Jacksonville, Fl to Russell & Lavena (Calhoun) Christie. He moved to Columbus at an early age and attended Columbus High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corp and served during the Vietnam War. He returned to Columbus where he worked various jobs including working for Platte County. He married Marilyn Alt on March 3, 1973 in Yankton, SD. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the 4th of July, and his dog Budweiser.

Dominic Geilenkirchen

Dominic J. Geilenkirchen, age 90, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday October 3, 2001 at his home. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Saturday October 6, 2001 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery in Humphrey, Nebraska. Visitation is after 4: 00 p.m. Friday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00a.m. also at McKown Funeral Home.

Dominic Joseph Geilenkirchen was born October 23, 1910 in Lindsay, Nebraska to Gerhard and Sophia (Roufs) Geilenkirchen. He attended school in Lindsay. On May 2, 1939 Dominic was united in marriage to Rose Hastreiter at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. The couple lived and farmed north of Lindsay until retiring and moving to Madison in 1968. They resided in Madison until moving to Columbus, Nebraska in 1979. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus.

Julia Czarnik

Julia Czarnik, age 96, of Genoa, Nebraska died Tuesday June 18, 2002 at her daughter's home in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services are 10: 30 am on Saturday June 22, 2002 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Krakow. Visitation will be on Friday after 4 pm at the Church. Vigil services will be held at 4 & 7 pm Friday at the Church in Krakow. Visitation will continue from 9: 30 am until service time at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Julia B. Czarnik was born September 19, 1905 in Platte County to Joseph and Catherine (Zions) Swantek. She married Charles B. Czarnik on October 18, 1927 at St. Mary's Catholic Church-Pilsno. They settled on a farm south of Genoa where they raised their family. Charles passed away October 15, 1972. Julia continued living on the farm until 1993 . She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church-Krakow. She worked for many years as a cook including Gloors Bakery, Columbus Sales Pavilion, and the Greyhound Bus Terminal Cafe.

Benjamin J. Hoover

Benjamin J. Hoover, age 18 of Columbus died Monday; June 10, 2002 at Children's Hospital in Omaha. Memorial services are 2: 00 p.m. Thursday; June 13, 2002 at St. Luke's Congregational Church. The Rev. Nancy Peebles will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1: 00 p.m. until service time.

Benjamin John Hoover was born September 28, 1983 in Columbus, Nebraska to Gary and Lana (Kroeger) Hoover. He received his education at North Park and the Columbus Middle School. He graduated from Columbus High School in 2002. Ben also lived in Schuyler and in Shelby for a period of time before returning to Columbus. Ben was an avid Professional Wrestling fan. Ben had aspirations of entering professional wrestling as a career. Throughout his illness, Ben strived to complete this goal.

Helen D. Tworek, age 91, of Elkhorn, Nebraska formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday June 18, 2002 at the Elkhorn Life Care Center. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday June 21, 2002 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Nebraska with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation continues on Friday from 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Helen D. Tworek was born May 6, 1911 in Duncan, Nebraska to Stanley and Agnes (Koziol) Kosiba. She attended school in Duncan. On April 22, 1931 she was united in marriage to Alois Tworek at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan. Helen was a homemaker and cooked for weddings for over 35 years. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and St. Rose of Lima Altar Society.
