Harold Gaylord Crawford
Harold Gaylord Crawford, brother of Wanda Rosentrater of Arnold, died Nov. 7, 1998, in Omaha. He was 73.

He was born March 13, 1925, at Farnam to Floyd and Dorothy Brittenham Crawford. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1943.

He entered the Army Air Force in 1943 and served as a teletype operator in England. He was discharged in 1945. Upon returning home, he attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska.

On April 12, 1952, he married Donna Savard of Grand Marais, Minn.

Mr. Crawford was an architect in civil engineering at Strategic Air Command headquarters for more than 30 years. Following his retirement, he became the assistant manager of the Bellevue Senior Center.

Surviving him is his wife; two daughters, Barbara (Douglas) Barth of Utica and Ann (Scott) Keefer of Kearney; a sister, Wanda Rosentrater of Arnold; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Eric and Kelsey Barth and Andrew and Joel Keefer; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Charles Lehman of Edward, Okla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Omaha.

Inurement will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell.

Frank Samuel Crisman
Frank Samuel Crisman, son of Ross and Dora Crisman, was born at Hastings, Nebraska on June 29, 1907. He passed away suddenly at Farnam, Nebraska on September 16, 1970, while the ambulance was taking him to the Veteran’s Hospital in Grand Island.

Frank attended school in Hastings, Nebr., and at the age of 22 years, joined the National Guard, in which he served from 1929 to 1932. In 1942 he was called to serve his country for three years. This time was spent in the Southwest Pacific Islands. At the time of his death he was a member of Post 288 of the Farnam American Legion.

The Crisman family moved to the Eustis-Farnam area in 1933. On June 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Lucille Peirsol at Holdrege, Nebraska. Frank and Lucille lived their entire married life in Farnam.

Frank suffered from complications of asthma and a heart condition for a number of years. The past year he was confined to his home.

Frank’s mother preceded him in death in 1950. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; his father, Ross Crisman at Gothenburg; one sister, Dorothy Jurjens, Farnam; one brother, Gerald Crisman, Gothenburg; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services were held Saturday, September 19 at 2 o’clock p.m. at the Farnam Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Kenneth Coursey officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Charles Davis, Mrs. Ernest Hammer and Mrs. Clarence Oberg. Pallbearers were Dale Montgomery, Ken Earhart, Harold Adkisson, Max McNickle, Dale McNickle and Byron Taylor.

Full military rites were performed by American Legion Post 288 of Farnam.

C. Kent Davis
C. Kent Davis, 62, died July 25, 1994, at a Hastings hospital. Mr. Davis operated a stock well repair business and farmed.

He was born Jan. 10, 1932, near Farnam, to Charley and Elsie Banks Davis and was a 1950 graduate of Farnam High School.

On Oct. 18, 1953 he married Evelyn Zeeh at Eustis. He served in the U.S. Navy 1951-1955.

Mr. Davis was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Eustis, American Legion Post 288, VFW and the USS Cushing Association.

He was a former school board member and had served on the Farnam town board.

Survivors include his wife, Eveyln of Farnam; two sons, Gary (Brenda) and Carson both of Farnam; two daughters, Marcia (Scott) Adkisson of Cozad and Karen (Mark) Ferell of Eustis; a brother, Glen of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Jeweldine Gaibler of Farnam and Charlot Williams of Eustis; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis with Pastor Harold Gronstal officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National cemetery.

Ora Davis
Ora A. Shull was born at Thorntown, Indiana, November 18, 1877. In 1897 she was married to Carson E. Davis, at Shulldale, the family home, in Otoe County, Nebraska. They lived on a farm in Otoe County for a number of years. Here their four children were born. In 1919 they moved to their farm in Frontier County, Nebraska, near Farnam. A daughter died in infancy, and Mr. Davis passed away in 1933.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Farnam Methodist Church. She passed away August 16, 1964, at the Slack Nursing Home in Gothenburg where she had been a patient for some time.

She is survived by two brothers; Tyner of Sterling, Colo., and Elmer of Joliet, Illinois; three children; Harland, of Caldwell, Idaho; Mrs. Lauren (Maguerite) Messersmith of Lake Villa, Illinois; and Charley of Farnam, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

Zoe E. Derra
Zoe Elizabeth Derra, 73, of Farnam, died August 2, 1995, at Omaha, Nebraska.

She was born Sept. 23, 1921, at Farnam to Angelo W. and Hazel Huston Miller. She graduated from Farnam High School and taught at a country school. She cooked at the public school for 13 years.

She married Richard J. Derra Oct. 12, 1940, at Farnam.

She was a member of the Sunshine Club, St. Joseph Catholic Church and its altar society.

Survivors include her husband of Farnam; three sons, Paul and Randy (Karen) of Farnam, and Bruce (Mary Jo) of Wheatland, Wyo.; two sisters, Jean Church of North Platte and Yoland Davis of Stone Mountain, Ga., a brother, Quentin Miller of Alamogordo, NM; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Claude, and a sister, Rachel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Donald O'Brien as celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the Church. Burial will be in the Farnam cemetery.

Frank G. Duis
Frank G. Duis, 72, died May 6, 1998, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital-Long Term.

He was born Feb. 13, 1926, at Farnam to Frank and Dena Rossendahl Duis. He lived in Farnam until 1935 when he moved to Gothenburg. He farmed for many years. He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Duis is survived by a sister, Grace Knoedler of Cozad; a brother, George of Gothenburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Tena.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blase Memorial Chapel with Keith Johnson, intern pastor at American Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Farnam cemetery.

Elsie M. Joy
Elsie M. Joy, 88, of North Platte, died Feb. 5, 1999, at Centennial Park Retirement Village.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1910, to Arthur S. and Georgia M. Raasch in Farnam. She attended schools at North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1928. She attended college at Kearney State College and in Parksville, Mo. After college, she moved to the Arnold area. She taught school in Garfield and Bignell.

On May 23, 1934, she married Donald R. Joy at the Presbyterian Church in North Platte. They lived in North Platte most of their married life.

Mrs. Joy was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was active in work around the church, serving as an elder and teaching Sunday School. She also had a love of knitting.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane (Charles) Gress of North Platte; a son, Lyle (Ruby) Joy of Miami; two sisters, Gertrude Hake of Grant and Dorothy Leth of North Platte; a brother, Robert Allen of Washington; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Mildred Leth; and a brother-in-law, Lee Leth.

William George Peirsol
William George Peirsol, the son of Jacob and Elizia Peirsol, was born November 16, 1868, at Leon, Iowa.

As a young man he came to Nebraska by covered wagon locating tn the Orafino community.

In 1900, he and Gertrude Trembly were married and six children were born to this union. His wife, Gertrude and son Cecil preceded him in death.

In 1935, he and Naomi Bechtel were united in marriage. They moved to Farnam in 1949, where he resided until the time of his death, January 8, 1968, at the age of 99 years, one month, 22 days.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi; two sons, Elvin Peirsol of Farnam and Verneon Peirsol of Columbus, Ohio. Three daughters, Lena Peirsol of Farnam, Lucille Crisman, of Farnam, and Dolly Aylsworth of Nampa, Idaho. Three grandchildren, Senior Chief MM Keitheon Peirsol, of the U. S, Navy; Marilyn Gardner of Farnam, and Sandra Aylsworth of Portland, Oregon. Eight great grand-children also three step-sons, Carl Bechtel of Allen, Kansas; John Bechtel, Admire, Kansas; and Clarence Betchel, Russell, Kansas. One step daughter, Mary Herber of Dorrance, Kansas. These along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held Thursday, January 11, 1968 at the Farnam Methodist Church with Rev. James Staley officiating.

Burial was in the Farnam cemetery with the McVay Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Preston
Elsie Violet Preston, daughter of Clara and Tandy Stinnette, was born September 19, 1900, at Moorefield, Nebraska and passed away October 15, 1969, in her home at Farnam at the age of 69 years. She grew to young womanhood in the community.

When she was 13 years old she was baptized in the Moorefield Church of God. During the past several years, she and her husband were active in the Farnam Nazarene Church.

On June 23, 1924, she was united in marriage with Frank Preston at Norton, Kansas. They had lived in Farnam since that time.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; an infant daughter, Evelyn and her father, Tandy Stinnette. She leaves to mourn her passing, a son, William of El Cajon, California; his wife, Erma; granddaughter, Terilyn; grandson, Tandy; her mother; one sister, Ethel Hudson of North Platte; two brothers, Otto of Herndon, Kansas; Clinton of Corvalis, Oregon and other relatives and friends.

Frank Vernon Preston
Frank Vernon Preston, son of William A. and Annie Preston, was born near North Loup, Ne. on Sept. 20, 1898. He passed away at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital on May 31, 1969, at the age of 70 yrs. 8 months and 10 days. When Frank was a few years old his family moved to Farnam. He attended the Farnam school and grew to manhood there. He was a barber for 51 years in Farnam.

He was married to Elsie Violet Stinnette on June 24, 1924 at Norton Kansas.

His parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers and his infant daughter preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Elsie; his son, William; granddaughter, Terilyn; grandson, Tandy of Elcajon, Calif.;1 niece, 3 nephews and a host of friends.

Services were held at the Farnam school auditorium Tuesday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. and interment was in the Farnam cemetery.
