Amy Rocha, 78
Amy V. Rocha, 78, of South Sioux City passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, at a local care facility.
Visitation was Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Amy was born icon on March 4, 1934, in Abingdon, England. She met Isadore J. Rocha in England, while he was stationed there during his military service. They traveled to America, landing in New York in 1952. They settled in Sioux City, where they made their home. Amy married Isadore on Nov. 29, 1952 in South Sioux City.
She worked for Johnson Biscuit for a short time before becoming a homemaker for her seven children.
Amy enjoyed gardening, canning, shopping for her grandchildren, sewing and remodeling her home. She was happy being home with her family and looking after her grandchildren. She traveled back to England in 1999 to visit family.
Amy is survived by three sons, Gordon (Iris) Rocha of Sioux City, Jamie (Niki) Rocha of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Randy Rocha of California; four daughters, Christina (Glen) Delperdang of Le Mars, Iowa, Carol Rocha of Sioux City, Cherie Rocha of Sioux City, and Cindy Rocha and her significant other Steve of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Cuddles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isadore; and a grandson, Jason.

Arnold Stark, Jr., 68
Arnold F. “Sparky” Stark, Jr., 68, of Hubbard, formerly of Martinsburg, Neb., was called home by the Lord on Thursday, May 10, 2012, while surrounded by his loving family at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were May 12 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Joan Frenzel officiating. Burial was in Eastview Cemetery, rural Allen, Neb., with military rites conducted by the Allen American Legion Post 131 and the Ponca American Legion Post 117. Arnold was born icon on March 26, 1944, at home on the farm in Martinsburg, the son of Arnold “Smokey” and Alberta Stark. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg. He attended grade school in Martinsburg and high school in Ponca, Neb., graduating from Ponca High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator and was stationed in Germany, earning the rank of Spec. 4 before he was honorably discharged.
He married Margie Adams on April 6, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg. The couple lived in rural Hubbard before moving into Hubbard in 1980. Arnold worked for 30 years for a feed company in South Sioux City before retiring in 2002.
He was a member of the Ponca American Legion Post 117. Spark felt so blessed. He loved and cherished Marge, his children and grandchildren, and the time he spent with them. He had an easy-going, fun-loving personality, and believed in a hard day’s work. He enjoyed the outdoors and took pride in maintaining the yard. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Margie; son, Travis (Mandy) Stark of Lincoln, Neb.; daughters, Kari Stark and fiancee, Tom Giles and Ashley Stark, all of Omaha; two granddaughters, Hannah and Hailey of Lincoln; brothers, Charlie (Vicky) Stark of Americus, Kan., Richard (Carmen) Stark of Martinsburg, and Robert “Bill” Stark of Dakota City; sisters, Sharon Scott and Linda Makousky, both of Martinsburg; brother-in-law, Larry Lueth of Wakefield, Neb.; aunts, Minnie Camerer of Ponca, Neb., and Hazel Breisch of Sioux City; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Lueth; and brothers, Gary and Roland “Ed” Stark.

Chase D. Miller, 21
Chase D. Miller, 21, of rural Hubbard, NE passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE. Rev. Gretchen Ritola officiated. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery in rural Homer at a later date. Visitation began at 5 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2014, with the family present at 6 p.m.. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. Arrangements were under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.
Chase was born icon in Sioux City, IA on April 18, 1993, the son of Douglas and Tammy (Stolze) Miller. He graduated from Emerson-Hubbard High School in 2011. He was working toward an Ag Econ degree at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. While attending college, he also worked full time on the family farm.
Chase was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson. He enjoyed spending time with his family, girlfriend Stacy, Sunday night dinners at Grandma’s and Papa’s, going to the ranch, farming, raising livestock and hunting, and he loved watching Husker football games.
Survivors include his parents, Douglas and Tammy Miller; brother, Justin Miller; sister, Skye Miller; girlfriend, Stacy Birkeland; grandparents, Eldon and Gayle Miller; uncle, Dan Miller of Ireton, IA; and great-grandmother, Shirley Longwell.
Chase was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Don and Ila Miller, Merle Longwell, Myrl and Delores Fleischman; cousins, Jenny Heinrich and Rod Ropken; and great aunt, Pam Riley.

Dr. Grady Bluford, 81
Dr. Grady L. Bluford, 81 of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday May 8, 2012 at a Sioux City Hospital.
Services were May 12 at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Robert Dillman officiating. Graveside services were May 12 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home was May 11 with sharing and remembering time.
Grady was born icon May 21, 1930 in Flint Michigan, the son of William and Atha (Jordon) Bluford. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1948. He attended Wayne State College then Morningside College graduating in 1958. He attended St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Medical Technical School from 1959 to 1960. He earned a degree in Counseling from the University Of South Dakota. He earned a master’s degree in ministry in 1989 and master’s degree in Christian Counseling in 1990. He received a doctorate in Bible Ministries in 1992.
He married Harriet L. Trosper on November 14, 1959 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sioux City, Iowa
He was employed at the West Hotel in Sioux City from 1951 to 1952, Miller-Kidder Chevrolet from 1953-1961, Methodist Hospital from 1961 to 1967 and Goodwill Industries from 1967 where he was vice-president until his passing.
He was a former member and president of the NAACP. He was a former board member of St. Luke’s Regional Medical Board and Western Iowa Tech. He was a former chairman of the board at First Christian Church, Tri-State Christian Church and Morningside Christian Church. He served as pastor of the First Christian Church in Akron, Iowa.
He was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City where he served as a deacon.
He received various awards for his service to the community, most notably the Edgar J. Helms Award from Goodwill International. He was active and served a term as president for the Suburban Rotary Club.
Survivors include a son Derick L. Bluford of Council Bluffs, Iowa, a daughter: Michelle A. Bluford of Omaha, Nebraska, a sister: Mildred Davis of Sioux City, sisters-in-law: Beatrice Jackson of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Verona “Cookie” Trosper of Sioux City, Iowa, brother-in-law, Everett Jackson, nephew Mickey Green, nieces: Dayna Nash, Dawn Ramsey, several other nieces and grandnieces and two grandchildren: Brandon and Alan Battles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Harriet on March 11, 2007 in Sioux City, Iowa, a brother: Harold Bluford and three sisters: MaryAnn Thompson, Willie Mae Fant and Ethel Heller.
Pallbearers will be Derick Bluford, Alan and Brandon Battles, Steve Nash, Harlin Vermeer and John Hantla, Jr.

Jack Bomar, 75
Jack L. Bomar, 75, of South Sioux City passed away suddenly Monday, May 7, 2012, at a Omaha hospital.
Services were May 12 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City, with the Revs. Stephen Niles and Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery, South Sioux City. Visitation with the family was May 10, with a prayer service at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Jack was born icon on March 18, 1937, in Plainview, Neb., the son of Theodore and Grace (Andreason) Bomar. He grew up in the Plainview area and graduated from Plianview High School in 1955.
He married Deanna J. Bakken on Nov. 22, 1958, in Plainview. Jack was employed at Mauck Photography Studio in Plainview. After moving to Sioux City, he became a news photographer for KCAU Channel 9 and also worked for Prudential Insurance Company. Jack was employed with Joe Morton and Son Inc. in South Sioux City for 37 years, retiring in 2000 as vice president of the motor carrier division. Jack treasured the close relationships he had with all of his customers.
Jack was a member of First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City and had served as an elder in the church. He was a 50 year member of the Omadia Masonic Lodge 5 A.F. &. A.M. in Dakota City and a past member of the Rotary Club.
Jack was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan. He enjoyed playing golf and especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as “Poppie.”
Survivors include his wife, Deanna of South Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Mike McNulty of Gilbert, Ariz., and Karen and Tony Anderson of Sergeant Bluff; a daughter-in-law, Jenny Bomar of Rogers, Ark.; six grandchildren, Maggie McNulty, Mark McNulty, Katie Anderson, Jolly Anderson, Bailey Bomar and Nicole Clifton and her husband, Paul; three great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Molly and Jack; a sister-in-law, Eunice Wensel of Yankton, S.D.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Linn Bomar; his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Oscar and Margaret Bakken; a sister, Juanita Hobson; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Leo Mahon, Mary and Jim Bennett, and Delmer Wensel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City.

Joshua M. Lester
Joshua M. Lester, 19, of South Sioux City, Neb. passed away on August 13, 2013 in Estes Park, Colo..
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Nativity Church in Sioux City, Iowa with Rev. Steven McLoud and Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery in rural South Sioux City, Neb. Visitation with the family present began at 5 p.m., with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the church. Arrangements were under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Neb. Online condolences to the family may be posted at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.
Joshua was born icon in Sioux City, Iowa on July 12, 1994, the son of Chad and Diana M. (Peltz) Lester. He attended grade school at St. Michael’s South Sioux City, and Mater Dei-Nativity Center. He graduated from Heelan. Through his high school years he worked at Black Bear Diner and Jackson Express. Josh spent this summer working with his dad doing plumbing, roofing, and working on remodeling projects for Lester Construction and Plumbing. His final project was constructing the student bleachers at Memorial Field.
He enjoyed lifting, racquetball and golfing. Josh had a smile that was contagious. He was described as a funny & personable guy that always knew how to make things better. His real passion was riding his motorcycle with his father.
Survivors include his parents, Chad and Diana (Peltz) Lester; brother, Jordan (Danielle) Lester; sister, Jaylee Lester; nephew, Caden; grandparents, Vlasta Peltz, Lynn Lester, Shelley and Daniel Winchester, Gladys Andershok; girlfriend, Carissa Sininger; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joshua was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Peltz.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Josh Lester Memorial Fund.

Malcom Baker, 88
Malcom M. Baker, 88 of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away Sunday May 6, 2012 at a South Sioux City Care Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in the City Cemetery, Red Cloud, Nebraska. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Malcolm was born icon November 20, 1923 in rural Inavale, Nebraska the son of Paul L. and Eda V. (Yingling) Baker. He moved with his parents to Red Cloud, Nebraska November 3, 1929 where he received his schooling. He was employed at different jobs in Nebraska and California. He moved to South Sioux City with his mother to live with his sister Eda Grothen.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud. He was a lover of nature and sports. He enjoyed reading.
He is survived by his sister Eda I. Grothen of South Sioux City, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father George Doering and a brother Robert E. Baker.

Rhonda R. (Comstock) Bray, 50
Rhonda R. (Comstock) Bray, 50, passed away unexpectedly at her parent’s residence in South Sioux City, Neb. on Saturday, April 6, 2013.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m.. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Neb. with Pastor Clyde Pritchett officiating. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4 p.m.. on Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences to the family may be posted at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.
Rhonda was born icon in Wayne, Neb. on May 29, 1962, the daughter of Ronald and Harriet (Murphy) Comstock. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1980. She worked for Hirschbach Trucking before moving to Minneapolis, Minn. Rhonda married Mark Bray on May 11, 1985 and they were blessed with two sons. While in Minneapolis, she worked in the medical records field. She moved back to South Sioux City in 2011 and worked for Cardiovascular Associates.
She volunteered at Regency Square Care Center and enjoyed spending time with her sons, bowling, dancing, riding her bike and going to the casinos.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Bray of Minneapolis, Minn.; sons, Joshua Bray of Minneapolis, Minn. and Derek Bray of South Sioux City, Neb.; parents, Ronald and Harriet Comstock; brother, Rick (Penny) Comstock; sister, Margo Comstock, all of South Sioux City, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley Frank Hughes, 85
Shirley Frank Hughes, 85, of Dakota City, NE passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City, NE.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE with Father Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery in South Sioux City. Visitation with the family present was held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.
Shirley was born icon in Decatur, NE on August 27, 1928, the son of Harry and Calva (Farley) Hughes. He graduated from Decatur High School and attended Doane and Dana Colleges. He married Jeanette Sherlock on April 23, 1949 at St. Michael’s Church in South Sioux City. He and Jeanette were one week shy of their 65th wedding anniversary.
Shirley worked at Old Home Bread and at Sioux City Brick and Tile.
In the 1950’s he served on the City Council and as Mayor of Dakota City. He was a longtime member of the Dakota City Fire Department, charter member of the Father Tracy Council of the Knights Of Columbus and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights.
Shirley was a an avid hunter, fisherman, pool shark and storyteller. He made a solo plane flight at age 16 while his older brothers served in World War II. He was a long time member of the SSC Rotary Club, Siouxland Barbershop Chorus and Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette of Dakota City, NE; children, William (Barbara) Hughes of Layton, UT, Daniel (Deborah) Hughes of Plymouth, MN, Margaret (Gary) Brown of Escondido, CA, and Mary (John) Fee of Surprise, AZ; sisters-in-law, Shirley Hughes of Chula Vista, CA and Gladys Hughes of Carriere, MS; Josynne Sherlock of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Calva (Farley) Hughes; brothers Robert, Clint, and Hughie; and sisters, Mabel Hughes and Joyce Teeters.
Casket bearers were grandchildren, Christopher Hughes, Angela Hughes-Gorka, AJ, Matt and Marcus Hughes, Garrett Fee, and Ryan Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Friends of the Dakota City Library or the Dakota City Fire Department Building Fund.

Richard Adolph Bonderson, 84
Richard Adolph Bonderson, 84 of Sioux City died Friday, April 26, 2013 peacefully at his home after a brief illness.
Services were held Tuesday, 11 a.m at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial as prior to the service at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Emerson, Neb with full Military Rites. Monday at 5 p.m the family received family and friends at the church with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service. Memorials are suggested to the St. Markís Lutheran Church Building Fund. Arrangements are with Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home, Pender, Neb..
Richard was born icon February 19, 1929 to Adolph and Ruth (Prouse) Bonderson. He received his education in Emerson, Neb., graduating in 1947. In 1950 he entered the US Airforce serving in the Philippines during the Korean Conflict as an airplane mechanic.
On June 4, 1951 he married Mardell Relitz. Two daughters were born icon to this union. They celebrated 61 happy years together.
After his discharge from the Airforce he engaged in farming in Dakota County. In 1964 he sold out to attend Bailey Technical School in St. Louis learning diesel mechanics. He then worked twenty years for Condon Motors specializing in fuel injectors. He spent the last ten years of his working career teaching diesel mechanics for Western Iowa Tech Community College.
Richard was active in his church serving in many positions and assisting in any way he could.
Survivors include his wife, Mardell; two daughters, Deborah (Wayne) Wragge of Bloomfield, Neb. and Kim (Gary) Kortje of Crofton, Neb.; four grandchildren: Keli Wragge of Papillion, Neb.; Tony (Nicole) Wragge of Phoenix, Ariz.; Jana (Shervin) Razavian of Kansas City, Kan.; and Jared Kortje of Tempe, Ariz.; plus three great-grandchildren: Addison and Avery Wragge, and Drew Holdt.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean.
