Chester Dale Owens
Chester Dale Owens, 85, of 1734 W. 4th, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa after a brief illness.
Services will be Tuesday, April 10, 2001; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Dr. Carl Utley officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska.
Chester Dale Owens was born
October 10, 1915 in Abilene, Kansas to Thomas Guy & Queenie (Parks) Owens. He moved with his family to Hastings, Nebraska in 1927 and graduated from Hastings High School in 1933. He taught school at District #63 in Hall County, Nebraska from 1934-1937. He joined the National Guard 110th Medical Regiment in 1937 and was inducted into the United States Army December 23, 1940 to January 28, 1946. He served in North Africa, Italy and the Pacific when Japan surrendered. On May 29, 1939, he married Helen Janet Dominy in Hansen, Nebraska. After his discharge, they lived in California for 3 years and moved to Kenesaw, Nebraska and worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Depot in Grand Island until it closed. He then worked at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska until his retirement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, 50 year member of the American Legion, Kenesaw, Nebraska and V.F.W.
Chester Dale Owens was preceded in death by his parents.

Randy Allen Hinrichs
Randy Allen Hinrichs, 43, of 411 S. Elm, Autumn Park Apartments, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at Bryan LGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, April 13, 2001; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Kathleen Kasper officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, rural Glenvil, Nebraska.
Randy Allen Hinrichs was born
August 20, 1957 in San Diego, California to Marvin & Shirley (Soukup) Hinrichs. He moved with his family to Hastings, Nebraska in 1959. He resided in Beatrice, Nebraska from 1964 to 1973 when he returned to Hastings.
Randy Allen Hinrichs was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Hinrichs and grandparents.

Emma Starkel, 93, of 309 Chicago Ave., died Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at Skyline Manor, Omaha, Nebraska.
Services will be Saturday, April 14, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Kathleen Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Emma Starkel was born
January 20, 1908 in Saratov, Russia to Henry & Katherine (Haas) Mons. She moved to the United States as a baby and resided in Lincoln, Nebraska. She married Alexander H. Starkel on September 19, 1929 and he preceded her in death on November 8, 1980. They moved from Lincoln, Nebraska to Hastings, Nebraska in 1937. In June of 2000, she moved to Skyline Manor, Omaha, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska.
Emma Starkel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alexander ‘Alex', son-in-law, Darrell Slater, 2 brothers, Alex Mons & Henry Mons and 2 infant sisters.

Rodney M. Johnson, 53, of 308 W. 11th, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Saturday, April 14, 2001; 10:00 A. M. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Rodney M. Johnson was born
June 9, 1947 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Kenneth & Alice (Brown) Johnson. He graduated in Rapid City, South Dakota and joined the United States Navy on June 14, 1965. After his discharge on May 28, 1969, he moved to Custer, South Dakota and attended Presentation Junior College in Aberdeen, South Dakota and received an Associate Degree in Medical Technology. On August 10, 1974, he married Joan Baumberger in De Smet, South Dakota. They later divorced. They moved from Worthington, Minnesota to Hastings, Nebraska where he has lived for the last 20 years. He worked at the power plant in Worthington and helped start the power plant in Hastings, Nebraska where he was a supervisor.
Rodney M. Johnson was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Thomas.

Elizabeth 'Bette' Ann Schutte
Life long Hastings resident, Elizabeth ‘Bette' Schutte, 76, of 402 Keystone Ave., died Friday, April 13, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Tuesday, April 17, 2001; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Greg Volzke officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Bette Schutte was born
October 18, 1924 in Hastings, Nebraska to LeRoy & Mildred (Jesse) Dreibelbis. She attended school in Juniata, Nebraska. In June of 1941, she married Robert W. Schutte and he preceded her in death in 1991. To this marriage two daughters were born. She worked at the Navy Ammunition Depot in Hastings, for a number of years before it closed and at the Hastings Regional Center until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, rural Juniata, Nebraska, Eagle's Auxiliary and a life member and past president of V.F.W. Auxiliary #10562.
Elizabeth ‘Bette' Schutte was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert.

Ernest E. ‘Ernie' Hansen was born
August 16, 1924 in Norman, Nebraska to Morris & Katherine (Christensen) Hansen. He married Meta (Swanson) Welsh on July 12, 1958 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on January 12, 1984. He worked at a gas station, Don's Liquor Store, as an insurance salesman and later as a Maintenance Engineer at the Hastings Regional Center.
Ernest E. ‘Ernie' Hansen was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Meta, 4 brothers, Carl, Walt, Clarence and Stanley Hansen, and a step son, Robert Welsh.

Luella Langenberg, 85, of 1235 N. Laird Ave., died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Memorial service will be at Friday, April 27, 2001; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Carl W. Utley & Rev. Matt Nieman officiating. Private family committal will be Friday, April 27, 2001; 1:00 P.M. in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Luella Langenberg was born
September 19, 1915 in Campbell, Nebraska to John Peter & Alice (Reiber) Adler. She graduated from Campbell High School and graduated magna cum laude with degrees in Christian Education & Church Music from the University of Dubuque, Iowa. She was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities. She married Rev. Arnold W. Langenberg on August 11, 1936 in Campbell, Nebraska and he preceded her in death on November 11, 1992. Together they served Presbyterian churches in Ashton, Iowa, Fort Smith Arkansas, Wilmot, South Dakota, Greeley, Colorado and Arkansas City, Kansas. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian National Evangelism Commission, and served on the National Executive committee of Presbyterian Women, National Board of Managers of ‘Concern' magazine and co-chaired National meetings of Presbyterian Women at Purdue University. In 1968, she became a staff person in Presbyterian Churches West Central area office of Womens Programs in Kansas City, Missouri and served in that position until her retirement. After retirement they lived on Beaver Lake, Rogers, Arkansas before moving to Hastings, Nebraska.
Luella Langenberg was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rev. Dr. Arnold W. Langenberg, 1 brother, 2 sisters and 1 nephew.
