Robert E. Haney

Robert E. Haney, 84, of Prairie Village, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital, Kansas City, MO.

Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Saturday, December 29, 2001 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dr. Paul Rowoldt officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84.

Robert E. Haney was born icon September 6, 1917 in Columbus, Nebraska to James S. and Alma (Segelke) Haney, the youngest of six children. He graduated in 1935 from Columbus High School and attended college in Los Angeles, California. In 1945, Robert started working for TWA as a machinist in Los Angeles, later working in San Francisco and Kansas City. After 6 years as a business agent for the International Association of Machinists, Robert was hired into management in 1955, and was for many years Director of Government Industry Liaison, retiring in 1983. He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII from January 6, 1942 to December 3, 1945. He obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. In January of 1979, he married Carol Harrington at the Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. He was a member of the Village Presbyterian Church. After his retirement, he spent several years as a golf course Marshall at the Overland Park, Kansas golf courses. A longtime resident of the Shawnee Mission, Kansas area, he lived the last thirteen years in Prairie Village, Kansas and prior to that, nine years in Mission Hills, Kansas.

Harvey D. Koch

Harvey D. Koch, 81, of Creston, Nebraska, died January 9, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Nebraska. Services are Friday, January 12, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Leigh, Nebraska with Rev. Kristi Rockswold officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Creston. Visitation is on Thursday, January 11, 2001 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Friday, January 12, 2001 from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Friday at 10:15 A.M. at the church.

Harvey D. Koch was born icon April 7, 1919 in rural Creston, Nebraska to Henry and Jennie (Bruen) Koch. He attended District 45 School. Harvey married Avis L. Pimpara on June 9, 1938 in Creston, Nebraska. He was a farmer and lived all of his life on the family farm south of Creston, Nebraska.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Coyote Hunters, Creston Gun Club, Leigh Saddle Club, past member of the District 45 School Board and had served on the Election Board for the Creston Township and he was a former member of the Lion's Club in Creston. Harvey enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending his grandchildren's sporting events and was an avid Cornhusker fan.

Martha Eicher

Martha Eicher, 91 of Lake Forest, California, (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska) died Thursday, August 21, 2003 at the Lake Forest Nursing Home.

Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Bill Ritter officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held the funeral home on Tuesday, from noon until service time.

Martha was born icon August 27, 1911 in Columbus, Nebraska to Gustav and Augusta (Schultz) Stoll. She graduated from Columbus High School and married Melvin A. Eicher on September 26, 1931 in Seward, Nebraska.
Martha was an avid Antique Collector and Dealer for most of her life and passed on her passion for beautiful mementos of the past to her children and grandchildren. For the past four years, Martha has lived in California where she enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved the year round flowers and birds and grew to love the ocean. But her real love was her hometown of Columbus, with its memories of growing up. She loved to remember her roots and the many friends that she had grown up with. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Clara E. Graus

Clara Graus, 83, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Ritter officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and continue on Saturday, from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Clara E. Graus was born icon February 17, 1920 in St. Paul, Nebraska to William and Mildred (Ratcliff) Joynt. She graduated from St. Paul High School and attended the University of Nebraska for one year. She taught school in rural Howard County, Nebraska for four years. She then went to work at the Grand Island, Nebraska Ammunition Depot for two years. She married Henry Graus on December 27, 1941 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Raising nine children was Clara's main occupation. She enjoyed making candles, knitting, sewing, baking, doing crafts, making string and wire art projects, flower gardening and helping her children when they were small with their paper routes. She was a self taught piano player and played for the residents of Beverly Healthcare. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church.

Vera Mae Geiser, 73 of Monroe, Nebraska died Sunday, October 12, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital, Columbus, Nebraska.

Services will be held at Monroe United Methodist Church, Monroe, Nebraska on Thursday, October 16, 2003 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Bev Minor officiating. Interment will be at the Friend Cemetery, rural Genoa, Nebraska. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Monroe United Methodist Church on Thursday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday at 10:15 AM at the church.

Vera Geiser was born icon December 17, 1929 in Monroe, Nebraska to Cleve and Ora (Carroll) Farmer. She graduated from Monroe High School. She was a bookkeeper for the Ditter garage and also City Clerk for Monroe for a number of years. Vera married Leonard Geiser on June 24, 1950 in Monroe. She lived in Monroe most of her life and was a member of the church.

Reinhold F. Ernst

Reinhold F. Ernst, 94, of Duncan, Nebraska died Sunday, September 7, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10 from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday at 10:15 A.M. at the church.

Reinhold Ernst was born icon June 30, 1909 in rural Platte County, Nebraska to Herman and Rosalie (Mumprecht) Ernst. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Duncan High School. While in high school, Reinhold was a member of the basketball team that went to the state tournament. He married Anna Schupbach on February 15, 1933 in Columbus, Nebraska. Together they farmed in the Duncan area, retiring in 1967.
After his retirement, Reinhold worked for Schultz as a plumber and an electrician. Reinhold enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He was a past County Supervisor, a member of the Dist. #8 school board, Lions Club, Izaak Walton League, and the Swiss Maennerchor. He was the oldest member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ.

Les Dill

Les Dill, 75, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, August 17, 2003 at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Services are Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. There will be a family prayer service Wednesday at 10:15 AM at the church. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church.

Les Dill was born icon October 16, 1927 in St. Edward, Nebraska to Earl and Gladys (Blair) Dill. He graduated from St. Edward High School and moved to Columbus in 1949. He married Imogene Hecker on September 19, 1954 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. Les was a retired businessman and owner of Columbus Plumbing & Heating for 30 years.
Les served in the U.S. Navy from October 25, 1945 to August 1, 1946 during WWII. He also was in the Navy Reserve during the Korean Conflict from July 7, 1952 to March 1, 1954. Les was a member of Elks Lodge #1195, American Legion Hartman Post 84, Izaak Walton League, Ducks Unlimited, O.F.C., and Trinity Lutheran Church where he was active with Meals on Wheels. He was an avid Husker fan, enjoyed duck hunting, sports, and following his granddaughters activities.
