Eldor E. Splittgerber
Eldor E. Splittgerber, 93, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, October 3, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Scotia, Nebraska with Rev. Ernest Smith officiating. There will be no visitation.
Eldor E. Splittgerber was born
April 3, 1910 in Pierce, Nebraska to Herman and Anna (Winter) Splittgerber. He was a graduate of Pierce High School and a member of the 1927 Pierce High School Northeast District Championship basketball team. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska where he played basketball for the Nebraska Aggies. Eldor married Esther Landgraf, a union that lasted 63 years. He spent 42 years in the teaching profession, 30 years, mostly in Albion, Nebraska as a Vocational Agriculture teacher and 12 years teaching German. He spent his last 10 years teaching at Columbus High School. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, woodcrafter and rock collector. A life-long Lutheran, he was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus.

Ernie Rongish
Ernie Rongish, 51, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, October 9, 2003 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2003, 10:30 A.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home.
Ernie C. Rongish was born
August 17, 1952 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to John L. & Inez E. (Moss) Rongish. Ernie attended school in Shelby and graduated from Columbus High School in 1971. He lived all his life in the Columbus area and worked for many years at Cornhusker Office Supply and most recently worked at Paraclipse. Ernie married Gail Kwapnoski in Columbus on August 11, 1984. Ernie enjoyed spending time with his family and was also an avid sports fan.

James (Jim) A. Struebing
Jim A. Struebing, 71, of rural Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at his home.
Please note change of service & visitation times.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at 10:30 AM at St. Luke's United Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and will continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM on Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Honor Guard or St. Luke's United Church of Christ Building Fund.
Jim Struebing was born
December 2, 1931 in Columbus, Nebraska to Christian & Gusta (Grubaugh) Struebing. He graduated from Rising City High School, Rising City, Nebraska in 1949. Jim entered the US Army on January 8, 1953 and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1955. He was a corporal and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his active military service, Jim was in the Army Reserve for eight years.
After the service, Jim returned to Rising City and worked at the Rising City Bank. Later, he went to work at the Columbus Bank in Columbus. He married Dorothy Blaser on August 29, 1959 in Columbus. In 1962, Jim went to work for Citizens Bank & Trust Company in Columbus. He was a vice-president of Citizens Bank until 1989. Currently, Jim was working part time for Blazer Manufacturing in Columbus.
Jim was an avid bowler and served as treasurer for the Columbus City Bowling Association for 21 years, and was inducted into the Columbus Bowling Hall of Fame. Jim also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and traveled to Minnesota with the family for many years where they enjoyed fishing vacations. Jim was a long time member of the American Legion where he volunteered many hours of his time. Jim served on the American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84, for over 23 years.
Jim was a big sports fan, enjoyed gardening, making deer jerky and going on senior citizens bus tours. He was a member of the church where he served as an usher.

Tim Steinkruger, 48, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at his home in Columbus. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at 10:30 AM at the Gass Haney Chapel with Rev. Gary Main officiating. There will be no visitation.
Tim R. Steinkruger was born
June 13, 1954 in Minden, Nebraska to Dale L. and Mildred L. (Hall) Steinkruger. He was raised on a farm in Franklin County, Nebraska and graduated from Hildreth High School in 1972. Tim lived and worked in Colorado and also in California before moving to Columbus in 1988. He worked as a machine setter at Appleton Electric. Tim was also an antique and animal dealer. Tim was a member of the Methodist Church in Macon, Nebraska.

Terrie S. Runge, 57, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, May 5, 2003 at the Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
The funeral service will be on Thursday, May 8, 2:00 P.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Shell Creek with Rev. Peter Jark-Swain officiating. Visitation will be at the Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 7 from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 1:45 P.M.
Terrie S. Runge was born
October 12, 1945 in Grand Island, Nebraska to William and Maxine (Wilkinson) Callihan. Terrie attended school in Columbus, Nebraska and graduated from Columbus High School. On September 18, 1965 she married Al-Dale Runge at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. They lived all their lives in the Columbus area and Terrie worked part-time at various jobs and also worked at home raising her children. Terrie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church- Shell Creek. She was formerly active in the Columbus Camera Club and also the 4-H club.

Jacob Mohr
Jacob Mohr, 89 of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
The funeral service will be Monday, October 25, 2004, 10:30 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. and visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 -10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.
Jacob Mohr was born
March 10, 1915 in Monroe, Nebraska to Martin & Elizabeth (Roh) Mohr. He attended school in Monroe. Jacob married Myrtle Long on December 18, 1941 in Fremont, Nebraska. On January 31, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on April 17, 1942. Jacob farmed north on Monroe until moving to Columbus in 1973. He then went to work for Beverly Healthcare for 13 years until retiring. Jacob was a member of the American Legion Crosier Post 226 in St. Edward, Nebraska and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Randy Cook
Randy Cook, 52 of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday, November 6, 2004 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
The funeral service will be on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Federated Church in Columbus, with Rev. Nancy Idenden officiating. Interment is in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday at 1:45 PM at the church. Memorials are suggested to Grace Episcopal Church.
Randy was born
October 7, 1952 in Hastings, Nebraska to Dale and Helen (Thomsen) Cook. He attended grade school in Wausa, Nebraska. In 1969 the family moved from Wausa to Platte Center, Nebraska. Randy graduated from Lakeview High School, rural Columbus, Nebraska in 1970. On April 7, 1973 he married Vicki Nelson (Cromwell). He attended Central Community College in Columbus and graduated with an associates degree. Randy worked for Becton-Dickinson for 32 years, most recently as the facility coordinator. He owned and operated Kookie's Mini Mart in Genoa, Nebraska from 1980 to 1993. On December 31, 1992, Randy married Lynn Anthes in Maui, Hawaii.
Randy was a past member of the Genoa Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Columbus Jaycee's. He had been a Cub Scout leader in Pack 178 in Bellwood, a hunter safety instructor in Genoa, past Clear Lake Association Board Member, and a honorary chairman for the Relay For Life in 2004. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, and the Eagles Aerie 1834. Randy was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and the Vestry. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper.
