Jeanette M. Louis

Jeanette Louis, 62 of Milpitas, California (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska) died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Clara, California.

A memorial service is scheduled in California for Thursday, April 29, 2004. A memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 1 at 10:00 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Jeanette was born icon October 15, 1941 in Columbus to Jacob Paul and Lucy (Meinke) Louis. Jeanette was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Columbus High School. She attended Norfolk Junior College. Jeanette worked at the Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha and Lincoln, and the Office Chief of Engineers in Washington, D.C. Jeanette joined NASA at Cocoa Beach, Florida before transferring to Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, where she worked for 37 years.

Jeanette enjoyed crafts, reading, traveling, walking her dog "Matt", and flower gardening. She took great pride in the many varieties of roses that she raised.

Ruth Anthes

Ruth Anthes, 69, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, September 22, 2003 at the Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.

A vigil service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2003, 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Fr. Joe Miksch officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday, 10:30 AM at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Ruth C. Anthes was born icon April 4, 1934 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Leo P. & Lucy J. (Wilson) Hennessey. Ruth graduated from Hemingford High School and then from Peru State College in 1952 with a Teachers Certificate. On December 17, 1954, Ruth married Max Anthes in Lincoln, Nebraska. She started and managed for many years the Hinky Dinky Deli in Lincoln. She went to work in the Lincoln Public School system as a custodian and retired in 1993. They moved to Columbus after her retirement.

Eileen G. Asche

Eileen G. Asche, 89, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, June 7, 2003, 10:30 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Ernest Smith and Rev. Michael Klatt officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Leigh, Nebraska on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.

Eileen G. Asche was born icon May 6, 1914 in Stanton County near Leigh, Nebraska to Gustave and Clara (Loseke) Asche. She went to school at District 42 in Stanton County and Zion Lutheran Parochial school and Leigh High School.. Eileen worked at the Leigh Bakery for four years and the Leigh cafe for five years. While living in Leigh, Eileen taught Sunday School at Zion Lutheran Church for many years. She commuted to work at Becton Dickinson until she moved to Columbus in the early 1970's. She also worked as a sales clerk at JC Penny' for five years and Sayed Sewing Center and Earl May Garden Center in Columbus for a number of years.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers and playing cards. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh before moving to Columbus. After her move to Columbus, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and then Peace Lutheran Church.

Ronda G. McAfee

Ronda G. McAfee, 45, of Fremont, Nebraska, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at her sisters home in Schuyler, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held at Shawnee Park Christian Church, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, on Sunday, December 08, 2002 at 1:00 PM.

Ronda was born icon September 21, 1957 in Kansas City, Kansas to Martin Wainess and Gayle Allen. At the age of 12 she moved to Iola, Kansas. She graduated from Iola High School in 1975 and attended two years of junior college. She moved back to Kansas City in 1981 and attended college in Lawrence, Kansas for one year. In 1977 she married Bill Luttrell and they had one daughter. Ronda lived in Albuquergue, New Mexico and Tucson, Arizona from 1990 to 2002. She recently move to Schuyler, Nebraska to be close to family.
Her smile lit up the world and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Philip Whitney

Philip Whitney, 88, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Masonic services will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home. Masonic Rites by Lebanon Lodge No. 323. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Philip Whitney was born icon February 23, 1915 in Columbus, Nebraska to Sylvester and Louise (Echols) Whitney. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1934. Philip married Elizabeth (Betty) Sheldon on June 9, 1937 in Columbus, Nebraska. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from October 13, 1943 to February 26, 1946. He was in the Seabees and trained for underwater demolition. He worked for the U. S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier, he retired in 1972. After retirement he worked part-time at a local golf course and transported cars for Ernst Auto Center. In 1984, Phil and Betty moved to Escondido, California.
Philip was a member of the Masonic fraternity where he was a Past Master of Lebanon Lodge No. 323, A.F. & A.M. and a member of North County Daylight Lodge No. 843, Escondido, California. He was a member of Platte Valley York Rite of Freemasonry, Pawnee Shrine Club of Sesostris Shrine Temple, and Harmony Chapter No. 13, Order of Eastern Star. He enjoyed playing golf.

Clara L. Lueschen

Clara L. Lueschen, 83, of Creston, Nebraska died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at Mory's Haven in Columbus.

Services will be Saturday, September 28, 2002, 1:30 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Leigh, Nebraska with Rev. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul's Cemetery in rural Leigh. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 12:30 - 1:30 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 1:15 P.M.

Clara L. Lueschen was born icon August 10, 1919 in rural Richland, Nebraska to Louis and Milla (Plugge) Lutjelusche. She married Hugo Lueschen on August 27, 1942 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Shell Creek. She was a school teacher at rural schools and a homemaker. Clara was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also active in WELCA and the Ladies Aid.

Orval W. Cooley

Orval W. Cooley, 88 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska) died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.

The Masonic Funeral Service will be Friday, January 23 at 10:30 A.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with John Lippert presiding. Interment will be in the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska at 3:00 P.M. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM and continue on Friday from 9:30 until service time, all at the funeral home.

Orval W. Cooley was born icon January 25, 1915 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Ferris and Lettie Mae (Auchmuty) Cooley. He attended Lincoln Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School. He then attended the University of Nebraska Pharmacy College. He married Wauneta Laursen on October 18, 1938 in Lincoln. Orval was a pharmacist in Lincoln before moving to Sioux City, Iowa and then to Lexington, Nebraska. On February 5, 1944 Orval was drafted into the US Navy. He was honorably discharged on December 26, 1945. Upon returning to Lexington after his discharge, Orval went back to work at the pharmacy that he was working at prior to entering the service. A large fire in Lexington caused Orval to move the family to Wahoo and then on to Columbus where he settled his family.
Orval went into partnership with Bob Davidson from Genoa and opened DC Pharmacy in Columbus. He later moved on to Miessler Drug Store where he worked for many years. Orval then opened and ran the pharmacy at the Columbus Community Hospital until he retired in January, 1980. Upon his retirement, Orval went to work part-time for Gass Haney Funeral Home for 19 years. Orval was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church where he had served on a number of committees including president of the Board of Trustees. He was a past Boy Scout Leader for Troop 212 in Columbus for nine years, a member of the American Legion, the Eagles and a former member of the Elks.

Orval was a sixty year Mason, joining the Masonic Lodge in Lincoln in 1940 and following his move to Columbus, transferred his membership to Lebanon Lodge #323 Ancient Free and accepted Masons and served as Master in 1956. He was secretary for 13 years and was proficient in the esoteric work of Masonry since 1960. He was a member of Orient Chapter #18 Royal Arch Masons, Gebal Council #13 Cryptic Masons, Gethsemane Commandry #21 Knights Templar and was a past presiding officer in these three bodies.

He was Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Nebraska in 1988-89. Orval was also a permanent member of the General Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons International. He was a member of the Order of High Priesthood in Nebraska with honorary memberships in a number of other states. Other Masonic affiliated memberships in Nebraska include: Sir Galihad Chapter #7 Knights of Your Cross of Honor, Association of Past Commanders, Coeur de Lion Conclave Red Cross of Constantine and appendent orders, Sangre de Cristo Tabernacle #L Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests, and a Charter Member of Nebraska York Rite College. He was also a member of 32 Degree Scottish Rite Masons, Sesostris Temple Ancient Arobic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Pawnee Shrine Club, Pawnee Jolly Wagon, Pawnee Shrine Clowns, Central States Shrine Clowns and the International Shrine Clown Association and National Association Legions of Honor of the Shrine. Orval was a member of Harmony Chapter #13 Order of the Eastern Star, an honorary member of Bethel 39 International Order of Jobs Daughters in Columbus and a Past Associate Guardian. Orval was a lifetime member and Past Associate Grand Guardian of the Grand Council of International Order of Jobs Daughters of Nebraska. He reorganized the DeMolay Chapter in Columbus in 1963 and was elected to the Board of Directors of the Nebraska DeMolay Foundation in 1989. In 1992, Orval was elected to the Board of Trustees, Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children.

Patricia Ann Reese

Patricia Ann Reese, 63, of Monroe, Nebraska, died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Bryan LGH West Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Bev Minor officiating. Interment will be at the Gruetli Cemetery, rural Monroe, Nebraska at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Patricia A. Reese was born icon November 2, 1940 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Stewart & Bernadine (Hetrick) Coon. On November 20, 1960, Patricia married Donald Gene Reese in Shelton, Nebraska. They lived in Monroe, Nebraska for many years and Patricia worked at Dale Electronics in Columbus. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her granddaughters and her great-granddaughter. Patricia enjoyed reading, shopping, and traveling.
