Donald Montgomery

COZAD - Donald Montgomery, 90, of Cozad died Sunday, April 13, 2003, in Cozad.
Services will be later.
Visitation for memorial book signing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Memorials are suggested to Central Plains Home Health and Hospice.
He was born
Sept. 29, 1912, near Cozad to James and Mabel (Burdeau) Montgomery.
He attended Lucerne Valley rural school and graduated from Cozad High School in 1930.
He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
He returned to Cozad and farmed with his father.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
On Nov. 27, 1945, he married Lillian Anderson in Gothenburg.
They lived on a farm north of Cozad. He farmed and ranched. They moved to Cozad in 1992.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Dehydrators Association, Nebraska and National Cattlemen's associations and had served on the Cozad Veteran's Honor Guard. He was a charter member of the Cozad Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; sons, James of Lakewood, Colo., and Jon of Cozad, daughter, Jean Goldner of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Jack Moller
Callaway resident, 72
CALLAWAY - Jack Eugene Moller, 72, of Callaway, formerly of Oconto, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Callaway District Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oconto Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Bicket officiating.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the Oconto Volunteer Fire Department or the Oconto Community Center.
He was born
Oct. 18, 1930, in Oconto to Herbert and Mildred (Overgard) Moller.
He attended school at Tuckerville from 1939 to 1946.
The family moved to Oconto in 1946.
He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad on the Stapleton Line.
He retired after suffering a stroke.
He was in the Callaway District Hospital and Madonna Rehabilitation Center before moving to the Callaway Good Samaritan Center in 1993.
He enjoyed a new pickup and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Darlene Schutz
Former Araphoe resident, 76
LONGMONT, Colo. - Darlene M. Schutz, 76, of Longmont, formerly of Arapahoe, Neb., died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at The Bridge Assisted Living in Longmont.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont with the Revs. Kent Schnegelberger and Tom Vanderbloemen officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elwood (Neb.) Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood.
Memorials are suggested to The Lutheran Hour, the church in Longmont or the church in Elwood.
Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont is in charge of arrangements in Colorado.

She was born
Dec. 2, 1926, in Gosper County, Neb., to John and Bertha (Brauner) Holst.
She graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1944.
She worked at the Cornhusker Ordnance Plant during World War II.
She worked at Williams Brothers Store in Arapahoe, the O.P.A. office and was a teacher in Gosper County schools.
On Dec. 29, 1946, she married Verne Anderson.
They lived in Arapahoe and later moved to Elwood.
Her husband died in 1955, and she moved to Lexington, Neb.
On Aug. 17, 1958, she married Leonard Schutz.
In 1959, she moved to Denver.
She worked at a jewelry store in Thornton, Neo-Data in Boulder and Boulder Valley Schools for 13 years as a food service manager. She also catered events for 30 years.
She retired and moved back to Elwood in 1981.
In 1993, she moved to Longmont to be near family.
Her husband died in 1995.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 5136 in Lexington and of Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont where she was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Anna Circle and Messiah Women's Guild. She was a member of Northern Colorado Porcelain Artists.
She enjoyed china painting, art and gardening.
Survivors include her sons, Galen and Ray Anderson and Kevin Schutz; daughter, Sherry Anderson Nolan; stepsons, James and John Schutz; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, a daughter and a sister.
Arthur Carlsen
Former Kearney resident, 70
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Arthur "Lee" Carlsen, 70, of Denver, formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 in Surprise.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Evanston United Methodist Church in Denver with the Rev. Paul Murphy-Geiss officiating.
Olinger Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born
Oct. 21, 1933, in Kearney to Edward and Lillian (Petersen) Carlsen.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; son, Bradley of Eldorado, Kan.; daughter, Penni Duncan of Colorado Springs; stepson, Garhett Becker of Denver; stepdaughter, Stephenie Miller of Colorado Springs; and five stepgrandchildren.
I. Pearl Griffis
Cozad resident, 97
ELWOOD - I. Pearl Griffis, 97, of Cozad died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Elwood Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with the Rev. Paul Kraft officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery north of Cozad.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Cozad.
She was born
Aug. 15, 1906, in Loup City to Walter and Daisy (Criss) Fletcher.
On Oct. 22, 1924, she married Virgil Griffis. He died in 1986.
Survivors include her sons, Walter of Altus, Okla. and Albert of Cozad; daughters, Ruth Helfenbein of Omaha, Eva Kraft of Cozad, Veva Kessler of Ketchikan, Alaska, Rosemary Weber of Hastings and Linda Downs of Lincoln; 29 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 50 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy Jensen
Callaway resident, 73
KEARNEY - Dorothy A. Jensen, 73, of Callaway, formerly of Overton, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton. Burial will be at Overton Cemetery.
Visitation will be until 7:30 p.m. today at the church in Overton with a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
She was born
Oct. 24, 1930, in Oconto to Francis and Caroline (Helmuth) Shea.
On June 7, 1950, she married Gordon Jensen in Oconto.
Survivors include her husband; son, Dan of Overton; daughter, Peggy Wirth of Grand Island; and brother, Francis Shea of Kearney.
Additional survivors include her daughter-in-law, Deb of Overton; son-in-law, Larry Wirth of Grand Island; sisters-in-law, Fern Shea of Kearney and Muriel Shea of Lexington; and grandchildren, Brandon Jensen and wife, Michele, of Kearney, Damon Wirth and fiancée, Katherine Sams, of Prescott, Ariz., Kimberley Jensen and friend Christopher Beddow of Centennial, Colo., and Kaitlyn Wirth and fiancé, Erin Bright, of Lincoln.
She grew up in Oconto and graduated from Oconto High School in 1948.
She attended Kearney State College and obtained her teaching certificate.
She taught at a rural school near Oconto for one year.
In March 1953, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Her illness didn't slow her down. In 1956, she became the secretary for the Overton School. She retired from the school after 20 years.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton.
She enjoyed writing poetry and had a great love for music.
Although she had a devastating illness, she never gave up hope and always cared for others. She was a strong-willed woman and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and twin brother, Richard Shea.
