Robert Whitney
Former Kearney resident, 54

CRAIG, Colo. - Robert J. "Rob" Whitney, 54, of Craig, formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home in Craig.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Jose Chavez officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 52 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759.

Visitation will be until 7 p.m. today at the church with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m.

O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

He was born icon Aug. 3, 1949, in Kearney to Delbert and Phyllis (Adams) Whitney.

On Aug. 17, 1974, her married Denise Nienaber in Kearney.

Survivors include his wife; son, Kirt of Craig; brothers, Mark and Timothy, both of Kearney; and sister, Barbara Peterson of Lincoln.

Additional survivors include his mother-in-law, Mildred Nienaber of Kearney and brothers-in-law, David Nienaber of Kearney and Derald Nienaber of Chicago.

He was raised and attended school in Kearney.

After high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy for a short time.

He returned to Kearney and received his degree in physical education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

While in Kearney, he taught physical education in the elementary schools, worked in construction and was a truck driver.

The couple moved to Craig in 1985. He went to work for Steamboat Ski Corp. and later for various companies as a truck driver. His last employment was with Trans Colorado Concrete Co.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Colorado.

He enjoyed skiing, fishing, hunting and bowling.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the Moffat County Cancer Society in care of Grant Mortuary in Craig.

Robert Reinertson
Sweetwater resident, 56

SWEETWATER - Robert Reinertson, 56, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at his home near Sweetwater.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sweetwater Cemetery.

He was born icon March 23, 1948, in Kearney to Kenneth and Thelma (Anderson) Reinertson.

Rasmussen Mortuary of Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his sisters, Karen Brown and Kris Brown, both of Sweetwater.

Additional survivors include his brothers-in-law, Jack Brown and Darrel Brown, both of Sweetwater; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He attended grade school in Hazard and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1966.

He graduated from Central Nebraska Technical School.

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and then farmed until his health failed.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna. He enjoyed hunting and collecting toy tractors.

Memorials are suggested to the Ravenna Emergency Unit.

Patricia Rivera
Lexington resident, 92

COZAD — Patricia M. Rivera, 92, of Lexington died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Southview Manor in Cozad.

Arrangements are pending with Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Wilma Sanderson
Lexington resident, 94

LEXINGTON — Wilma H. Sanderson, 94, of Lexington, formerly of Arapahoe, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Revs. Onamae Waddel and Lana Dake officiating. Burial will be at Oxford Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.

She was born icon Oct. 11, 1910, in Franklin to George and Hattie (Chitwood) Carpenter.

In 1936, she married Merlin Sanderson. He died in 1975.

Survivors include her son, Newel of Lexington; daughter, Sandra Swan of Weston, Conn.; a granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.

Patrick Peters
Kearney resident, 44

KEARNEY — Patrick Peters, 44, of Kearney died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with O’Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home.

John Gardner Jr.
Overton resident, 80

OVERTON - John A. Gardner Jr., 80, of Overton died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at his home in Overton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Overton Christian Church with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial will be at Overton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Overton Funeral Home in Overton.
Memorials are suggested to Tri-County Hospital Hospice, the Overton Rescue Unit or the church.

Wayne K. Pickering
Cozad, 77

COZAD - Wayne K. Pickering, 77, of Cozad died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Haymaker Haven in Cozad.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Michael Green officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to Cozad Home Health.

He was born icon Oct. 16, 1924, in Lexington to John and Lula (Taylor) Pickering. He grew up on a farm north of Lexington and attended country school.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Jan 8, 1946, he married Iris Sharp in Junction City, Kan. They lived in Dawson and Buffalo counties. His wife died in 1985.

He worked for Allied Hay Mills at Elm Creek, was a roofer and a mechanic. He worked at Monroe Auto in Cozad and retired after 20 years 1989.

He enjoyed working with his hands and making wooden toys, trains and cars; fishing; camping; hunting; and working on bicycles.

Survivors include his sons, Lonnie, Keith and Donald, all of Cozad, Dale of Johnson Lake and Earl of Madison; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and special friend, Rosella Dyke of Olathe, Kan.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister.

Doris M. Throne
Kearney, 78

KEARNEY - Doris M. Throne, 78, of Kearney died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at her residence.

No services are planned; the body has been cremated.

O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon June 11, 1924, in San Francisco to Jesse and Myrtle (Palmquist) Ayer. She received her education in San Francisco and attended school in Modesto, Calif. for two years to become a licensed practical nurse.

On Dec. 3, 1946, she married John Throne in San Francisco.

In 1980, she moved to Kearney and worked at St. John's Good Samaritan Center until she retired in 1989.

She was a member of Job's Daughters.

Survivors include her son, William of Stockton, Calif.; daughter, Emily Disraeli of Kearney; brother, John of Clearlake, Calif.; sisters, Agnes Throne of Kearney and Marion Sorenson of Minden; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter.
