Denzil Jenkins
Denzil C. Jenkins, 90, of Grand Island died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at his home.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Charles Rodenbaugh Sr.
Charles D. Rodenbaugh Sr., 71, of Oak Street Manor in Dannebrog died Friday, June 18, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Karohl officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Rodenbaugh was born
on Oct. 8, 1927, in Sargent to Elmer and Thelma (Adams) Rodenbaugh. He was raised and attended school in Grand Island. He worked at Cornhusker Ordnance Plant and Plummer's Salvage Yard. He owned and operated his own salvage yard at the east edge of Grand Island from 1962 to 1970. He retired in 1989 and has lived at Oak Street Manor in Dannebrog for the past four years.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and drinking coffee with his friends.
Survivors include four sons, Charles Rodenbaugh Jr. of Cairo and Kevin, Jack and Michael Rodenbaugh of Grand Island; seven daughters, Betty Bachmeier of Spokane, Wash., Cheryl Timmons of Wood River, Tracy Hugelman of Lincoln, and Ruth Wood, Nancy Cuddeford, Robin Rodenbaugh and Penny Clark, all of Grand Island; 30 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six brothers, Marlo, Vernon, Norman, Jerry, Bill and Bud Rodenbaugh, all of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and a grandson, Brent.
Jean Ensley-Steiner
Jean M. Ensley-Steiner, 73, of Grand Island died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Holzworth officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
She was born
on Dec. 15, 1925, at Maxwell to Neils and Ella (Everly) Johnson. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island and Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City in 1943.
She married Al (Aden) Ensley on Sept. 23, 1944, in Kansas City. They lived in Grand Island. She was a homemaker and partner in Ensley Electric.
She married Jim Steiner in Red Cloud on Dec. 31, 1974. They lived in Guide Rock. She attended the School of Practical Nursing in Kearney and graduated as a licensed practical nurse in 1979.
After his death in 1981, she returned to Grand Island and worked at the Nebraska Veterans Home and Riverside Lodge.
Survivors include three sons, Craig Ensley of Grand Island, Allan Ensley of Lincoln and Tomas Ensley of Alhambra, Calif.; one daughter, Carol (Mrs. Woody) Nelson of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Steiner, in 1981; one brother, Bob; and one grandson, Clark Ensley.
Robert Blacklock
GREELEY -- Robert W. Blacklock, 83, of Greeley died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at Greeley Care Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley with the Rev. Gerald Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the O'Connor Cemetery south of Greeley.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with rosaries at 4 and 7 p.m.
T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Milford Johnson
RAVENNA -- Milford Johnson, 88, of Ravenna died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna with the Rev. Brian Fugleburg officiating. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Johnson was born
on Nov. 10, 1910, on a farm south of Litchfield to Fred and Martha (Cree) Johnson. He married Violet Talbot Kroeger on March 19, 1945. The same year, he attended Reisch American School of Auctioneering in Albert Lea, Minn. He was an auctioneer and farmer until retiring in 1986. He had lived at Rose Lane Nursing Home since January 1996.
He liked animals and driving ponies or mules hitched to a small hayrack carrying the Czech polka band in parades in and around Ravenna. He enjoyed lighting all his farm buildings at Christmas time.
Survivors include his wife; one stepdaughter, Glenda Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one stepson, Rex Kroeger of Kearney; and one sister, Faye Dvorak of Grand Island.
Joe Ruzicka
ORD -- Joe Ruzicka, 81, of Ord died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
Mabel Wade
AURORA -- Mabel Wade, 105, of Aurora died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Aurora United Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Gary Bradley
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa -- Gary E. Bradley, 25, of Independence, Iowa, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, west of Winthrop in Buchanan County, Iowa, from injuries he received after being hit by a train.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rowley United Methodist Church in Rowley, Iowa, with the Rev. Jerry Burrow and the Rev. Shirley Rozendaal officiating.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Bradley was cremated. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Bradley was born
on Jan. 3, 1974, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Steven and Janice (Main) Bradley. He attended schools in several communities, including Independence and Jesup, Iowa; Grand Island; and Cuba, Kan. He received his General Educational Development (GED) degree from Hawkeye Technical School in Waterloo, Iowa, and had attended A.I.C. Institute in Davenport, Iowa.
Survivors include a special friend, Valerie Johnson of Independence; one daughter, Tayler Sky Bradley at home; his mother, Janice Bradley of Jesup, Iowa; his father and stepmother, Steven and Vicki Bradley of Grand Island; two half-brothers, Chris Franck of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Justin Bradley of Fairbury; two half-sisters, Amanda Bradley of Fairbury and Barbie Leinen of Fremont; one stepbrother, Jon Schamp of Grand Island; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Gladys Main of Rowley, Iowa; and paternal great-grandmothers, Alton Bradley of Oelwein, Iowa, and Phyllis Kuehl of Marquette, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carlyn Bradley and Maxine Branson; paternal great-grandfathers, Chester Bradley and Earl Maggert; and maternal great-grandparents, Richard and Minnie Main and Arthur and Edna Hilmer.
Florence Haun
Florence N. Haun, 92, of Grand Island, died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. Rev. Jim Howland will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Louis C. Butt
CENTRAL CITY -- Louis C. Butt, 73, of Central City, died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at Litzenburg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City. Rev. Bradley Rick will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Central City Library.
Mr. Butt was born
Aug. 20, 1925 in rural Merrick County to Rynold F. and Minnie B. (Clauff) Butt. He attended District 21 School and graduated from Central City High School in 1942.
He married Alvera L. Johannes on Jan. 18, 1944, in Central City. They farmed north of Central City until retiring in 1992. They moved to Central City in 1999.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was an avid hunter, fisherman and reader.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judy (Mrs. Larry) Munn of Falls City; one son, Jeffrey of Lincoln; mother, Minnie of Central City; one sister, Reta Kleve of Central City; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce; one sister, Laree Gee; and a great-granddaughter.
Joseph Krohn
ALBION -- Joseph L. Krohn, 37, of Albion, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, following an illness.
Services are pending at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Lewis G. Lindburg
STROMSBURG -- Lewis G. Lindburg, 80, of Stromsburg, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mr. Lindburg was born
Aug. 28, 1918 in Polk to Eleanor and May (Smith) Lindburg. He attended Polk Public School and graduated from Polk High School in 1936.
He married Norma Larson on Sept. 15, 1941 in Grand Island. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked on the Alcon Highway in motor supply. After returning to Stromsburg, he was a milk man, retiring after 43 years in the business.
He was a member of the Stromsburg American Legion for 50 years and served with the Stromsburg Fire Department for 48 years.
He was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Faye (Mrs. Gary) Cockle of Lincoln, Karen (Mrs. Edward) Adamson of Milford, Mich., and Judith (Mrs. Michael) Hedrick of York; one sister, Margaret Lawhead of Apache Junction, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and William.
