Luella Varah
DONIPHAN -- Luella M. Varah, 74, of Doniphan died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. The Rev. Harold Stromer will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Doniphan.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Brand-Wilson Chapel in Hastings.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Varah was born
on Jan. 9, 1925, at Glenvil to Henry and Fannie (Janssen) Gartner. She attended country school in rural Hastings and then attended Hastings public schools.
She married Carl Varah on Dec. 18, 1944. The couple moved to Doniphan in 1947. She had owned and operated Luella's Ceramics in rural Doniphan since 1963.
She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings and the Third City Ceramic Association.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Loretta Broberg of Sioux City, Iowa, and Connie Hoagland and Bonnie Will, both of Hastings; one son, Tim Varah of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alma Woodward and Fannie Hill, both of Hastings, and Mary Alexander of Grand Island; and four brothers, Elmer Gartner of Hansen, Harold Gartner of Ayr, Everet Gartner of Manitou Springs, Colo., and Donald Gartner of Giltner.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Kort in 1994; four brothers; and two sisters.
Richard Jensby
BEATRICE -- Richard V. Jensby, 66, of Beatrice died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Harman-Wright Mortuary Chapel in Beatrice. The Rev. Jimmy Shelbourn will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Home Cemetery at Beatrice.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Jensby was born
on Oct. 28, 1932, at Cadams. He graduated in 1950 from Ruskin High School. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Doane College.
He served in the U.S. Army in the 1st Armored Division from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, in the Battery D Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion.
He married DeLoris Dienstabier on Oct. 4, 1953, at her parents' home in Liberty. He farmed near Ruskin and Barneston and served on the Barneston school board. He moved to Beatrice in 1978.
Mr. Jensby worked at Dempster's Totes and the city Park and Recreation Department, from which he retired in 1990.
He was a member of the Beatrice Tender Props Model Airplane Club and Barneston United Presbyterian Church and former coach of the Beatrice Breeze girls softball team.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Douglas of Malcolm; three daughters, Kathy (Mrs. Bob) McKelvey of Fremont, Valerie (Mrs. Jack) Craig of Denton and Lisa (Mrs. Kevin) Pool of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; one great-grandson; one stepgreat-grandsons; his mother, Teresa Jensby of Hebron; two brothers, Laveryl Jensby of Wilbur and Darrell Jensby of Gilbert, Ariz.; and two sisters, Joanne Blizek of Bloomington, Minn., and Sharon (Mrs. Phil) Hand of Hebron.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Jensby.

Velma Land
QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. -- Velma Grace Land, 61, of Queen Creek, Ariz., formerly of Palmer, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Queen Creek.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Richard Fairbanks will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Land was born
on Aug. 8, 1937, in Nance County to Andrew C. and Ruth May (Miller) Rasmussen. She grew up in Nance County and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1955.
She married Jerry William Land on May 22, 1955. They farmed in Nance and Merrick counties. Mr. Land died on Feb. 6, 1996. After his death, Mrs. Land moved to St. Paul. She moved to Arizona in December 1998.
Mrs. Land was a member of the Chapman United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, collecting Barbie dolls and horseback riding.
Survivors include one son, Jason Land of Fullerton; two daughters, Roxann (Mrs. Randy) Broshears and Pam Kolar, both of Queen Creek, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson.
Margy Kelsay Margy Lou Kelsay, 68, of Grand Island died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the All Faiths Chapel at the Nebraska Veterans Home. The Rev. William Forbes will officiate. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Thurman Cemetery in Thurman, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the All Faiths Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Kelsay was born
Nov. 30, 1930, at Gering to Ben L. and Rosella (Brown) Corbin. She graduated from Sioux County High School in Harrison in 1949.
She married John Kelsay June 20, 1953, in Harrison. The couple lived in various cities throughout the Midwest. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Kelsay was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed ceramics.
Survivors include her mother, Rosella Corbin of Kearney and one sister, Kae (Mrs. Larry) Sawyer of Kearney.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband; and several brothers.

'Buck' Hiett
SCOTIA -- George C. "Buck" Hiett, 74, of Scotia, died Saturday, August 7, 1999 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Jacobsen Funeral Home.
Edna Rikli
ORD -- Edna Rikli, 102, of Ord, formerly of Murdock, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Murdock Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be prior to service time Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Murdock Methodist Church or the Ord United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Rikli was born
July 10, 1897, at Manning, Iowa to Jon Jacob and Rosa (Schuman) Johannsen. She was educated in Lincoln.
She married Leo Rikli Sept. 15, 1915, in Murdock. The couple farmed on Leo's family farm for many years, and then moved to Ord in 1981. Mr. Rikli died Oct. 1, 1987, and Mrs. Rikli lived at the Valley County Nursing Home until her death.
She was a member of the Murdock Methodist Church, where she served as the church choir director and director of youth leagues.
She enjoyed cooking, music, playing the piano, reciting poetry and artwork. She also enjoyed traveling.
Mr. and Mrs. Rikli spent 15 winters in Texas.
Survivors include one daughter, Naomi (Mrs. Lloyd) Geweke of Ord; two sons, Warren "Abe" of Lincoln and Donald "Dutch" of Murdock; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Vernon; a grandson; and one infant brother, Otto Johannsen.
Elma Scott
WOOD RIVER -- Elma M. Scott, 97, of Wood River, formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center of Wood River.
Private family services will be held at a later date at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Shrine Hospital for Burned Patients in Galveston, Texas, the Grand Generation Center or First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Scott was born
Feb. 25, 1902, at Hoskins to Calvin and Martha (Purdy) Haddix. She attended schools in Mason City and Cairo. She later worked for the telephone company.
She married Ray E. Scott April 1, 1921, in Hastings.
Mrs. Scott worked at the Union Pacific railroad for five years, and later worked at Hested's department store, the Grand Island Bakery and the S & H Green Stamp for 17 years. After her retirement, she did volunteer work at the Grand Generation Center.
She enjoyed traveling. She went to all 50 states, and several countries.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Andrew church circle, the Three Links, the Rebecca "Truth" Lodge No. 135, the Eastern Star No. 41, the AARP, the National Veterans Railroad and the Aketa Club.
Survivors include two sons, George Scott of Williamsburg, Vir., and Marion Scott of Watertown, N.Y.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Caroline Jensen of Weston, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, William Haddix and Lorance Haddix.
Corrine Weidner
GREELEY -- Corrine Weidner, 97, of Greeley died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Dolce Scheef Mortuary in Spalding is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church, with rosaries at 4 and 7 p.m.
Mrs. Weidner was born
July 11, 1902, at Albion to Vincent and Margaret (Sweeney) Connelly. She attended school at Holy Family School in Lindsay.
She worked as a telephone operator in Lindsay.
She married Raymond Weidner Feb. 2, 1927, at Holy Family Church in Lindsay. The couple farmed for one year before moving to O'Connor. They later moved to Greeley, and farmed there until retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Weidner enjoyed her grandchildren and quilting.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Altar Society and Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include three daughters, Alyce (Mrs. Fred) Glaser of Spalding, Mary Lu Weidner of Glendale, Calif. and Margaret Ann (Mrs. Jim) Fleming of Omaha; three sons, Ray and Tom Weidner of Omaha and Jerry Weidner of Lincoln; 26 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; and a son, Earl Weidner.
