James Alexander
LINCOLN -- James George Alexander, 74, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Colorado Springs, Colo.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Wyuka Funeral Home at 3600 "O" St. in Lincoln. Burial will be in the Wyuka Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Alexander was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Lincoln; one daughter, Carolyn Horning of Las Vegas, Nev.; two step daughters, Jane Sellers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Fran Jones of Lincoln; four stepsons, Steven Burnett and Alan Durant, both of Harrison, Ark., and Michael Burnett and Randall Burnett, both of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Compton of Compton, Calif. and one brother, Donald Alexander of Grand Island.
He was peceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Michael Baker
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Michael Ryan Baker, 11, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, May 8, 2000, in Portland as the result of injuries received in a car-pedestrian accfident.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel in Gresham, Ore. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Gresham.
Memorials are suggested to trust funds at the Washington Mutual Bank or the Clackamas County Banks in the deceased's name.
Michael was born
Jan. 30, 1989, in Grand Island. He and his mother moved to Portland in 1996. He was a student in the fifth grade at Wilkes elementary School. He was an avid Trail Blazers fan and loved playing basketball. He liked video games and Pokemon.
Survivors include his mother, Patricia Florom of Portland; four sisters, Ashley Baker of Portland, Megan Baker of Grand Island, Jennifer Baker of Omaha and Racheal Hoskins of Portland; a grandmother, Maryvonne Jumeau of Ruon, France; grandparents, Elmer and Beverly Baker of Holdrege; and great-grandmother, Wilma Pederson of Hastings.
Jeanette Douglas
KENAI, Alaska -- Kenai resident Jeanette Douglas, 77, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Pastor Randy Parshall of Christ Lutheran Church of Soldotna will officiate. Her ashes will be buried at the Hickerson Cemetery at Homer, Alaska, at a later date. Peninsula Memorial Chapel of Kenai is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Douglas was born
Aug. 7, 1922, at Grand Island. She served as a civilian clerk for the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 in Oakland, Calif. In the summer of 1952 she moved to Alaska residing in Anchorage. She lived in Anchorage until 1962. She worked alongside her husband in their businesses of insurance and gas stations all in California, as both a partner and secretary. She retired in 1993 at Chico, Calif. She and her husband returned to Kenai in 1996.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Soldotna and a former member of the Women of the Moose Lodge while she was in Anchorage. She enjoyed reading, search wordpuzzles, airplanes, roadrunners and flowers.
She was survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Truman Douglas of Kenai; a daughter, Mary (Mrs. Dennis) Kaufman of Scots Valley, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Leonard and James Douglas, a brother, Ken Siebert, and a sister, Faye Siebert. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Douglas.
Elvine Lahowetz
Elvine J. Lahowetz, 93, a resident of Riverside Lodge in Grand Island, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Riverside Lodge.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a Catholic Daughter's Rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish rosary at 7 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral or St. Francis hospice.
Mrs. Lahowetz was born
on March 17, 1907, in Marquette to Edward and Johanna (Andersen) Jensen.
She attended school in Marquette and graduated from St. Paul High School.
She married Clarence Lahowetz on June 13, 1931, in St. Paul.
The couple lived in St. Paul until 1947, when they moved to Omaha. They lived in Omaha for six months. They then moved to Clarks where they established the Ideal Variety Store.
In 1962, the couple moved to Grand Island where she served as the head cook at St. Mary's school for several years until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Mary's Altar Society, Court Ave Maria No. 1263 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Christian Mothers of St. Mary's Cathedral, and the Navy Mothers.
Her hobbies included crocheting and playing cards.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas of Omaha and Larry of Holdrege; two daughters, Clare Marie Wollenberg of Littleton, Colo. and Mary Cathryn Truesdell of Clarks; 22 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, James; one daughter, Joanne Rankin; one infant grandson; one infant brother; and one sister, Valborg "Bobbie" Mangelsen.
Gerald Dubbs
WOOD RIVER -- Gerald Dubbs, 83, of Wood River, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Wood River. The Rev. Rose Bartleson will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be immediately following the service at Wood River Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Wood River.
Mr. Dubbs was born
on Feb. 11, 1917, at the family home near Wood River to Dan and Lella (Brunner) Dubbs. He attended school in Shelton and Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School in 1933.
He married Bernice Rathman on Jan. 31, 1940. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and the Ordnance Plant in Grand Island prior to becoming a member of the Steamfitter's Union No. 464 in 1951.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wood River, the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Grand Island, and the Platt-Duetsche Society of Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bob of Schuyler and Gary of Elkhorn; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold of North Platte; and one sister, Eileen Wilson of Arvada, Colo.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother and one grandson.
Myrle Maybon
AURORA -- Myrle D. Maybon, 85, of Aurora, formerly of Fullerton, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Revs. Mary McQueen and Schill will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Ervin Mazour
WOOD RIVER -- Ervin Mazour, 74, of Wood River, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Private burial services will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Wood River.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mr. Mazour was cremated. There will not be a visitation.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Wood River Rescue Unit or St. Francis Hospice.

Mr. Mazour was born
on Nov. 1, 1925, at Lawrence to Thomas and Mary (Pavelka) Mazour. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1943.
He married Mary Erma Gilsdorf on Jan. 14, 1946, and farmed in the Lawrence area until 1957 when the family moved to a farm near Wood River. In 1970, Ervin joined Thelen Grain Co. as a partner and farm manager.
He served as mayor and city council member of Wood River for a total of 17 years. He was president of the Business Association, Lions Club and Co-op, served on the school board, Fair Board, Wood River Country Club and board of St. Mary's Church.
His greatest interest was raising cattle. He also enjoyed watching sports, golfing and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Thomas of Vienna, Austria, Jim of Sutton, Gary of Omaha, Mike of Marshalltown, Iowa and Scott of Grand Island; one daughter, Barbara (Mrs. Charles) McTavish of Wood River; three sisters, Dorothy Skalka of Deweese, Rose Theis of Hastings and Marilyn Schroer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Kotinek; and an infant son.
Steffie Parkos
ORD -- Steffie Parkos, 85, of Ord, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord Senior Classics.
Mrs. Parkos was born
Dec. 14, 1914, in Omaha to Frank and Anna (Kyncl) Hasek. She began her education in Omaha. The family moved to a farm in Valley County when she was a child and she attended rural schools in Valley County.
She married Frank Parkos on April 2, 1934, in Elyria. The couple farmed in Valley and Greeley counties until retiring to Ord in 1965. Mr. Parkos died Dec. 21, 1978.
She enjoyed baking, particularly kolaches and bread, and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Blanche (Mrs. Arlis) Canfield and Marcella (Mrs. Maynard) Stelk, both of Grand Island; one son, Frank of Corpus Christi, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Pelan of Omaha; and one brother, Frank Hasek of Fremont.
She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
'Bud' Behring
Herman H. "Bud" Behring, 80, of Grand Island, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Behring was born
March 19, 1920, in Grand Island to Louis and Rosa Marie (Goehring) Behring.
He received his education at District 18 School northwest of Grand Island.
After his father's death, he took over the family farm and farmed with his brother Ray. He retired at age 65.
He enjoyed listening to Polka music and spending time with his dog, Benji.
He was a past member of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include two brothers, Raymond and Lester, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Norman.
