Janet Berck
GRESHAM -- Janet Lee Berck, 53, of rural Gresham died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Osceola.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. The Rev. John Ewton will officiate. Burial will be in Hoffer Cemetery in rural Gresham.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola.
Mrs. Berck was born
on Sept. 6, 1946, at Denver to Clayton and Margaret (Dunbar) Taylor. She graduated from Wheatridge, Colo., High School.
She married Burdette Berck on Jan. 6, 1968, in Denver. The couple lived in Loveland, Colo., from 1968 to 1975, when they moved to rural Gresham, where they lived until her death. She was a housewife.
Her activities included the United Methodist Women, WIFE, Lovefest and Awana.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Timothy of Gresham, Ross of Osceola and David of Leawood Kan.; one foster daughter, Camrin (Mrs. Joe) White of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren; her parents, of Grand Lake, Colo.; one brother, Lynn Taylor of Rock Springs, Wyo.; and one sister, June (Mrs. Al) Decourt of California.
Lee Sinner
BREWSTER -- Lee Clarence Sinner, 80, of Brewster died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Tim Pearson will officiate. Burial will be in the Brewster Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Brewster Rescue Unit.
Mr. Sinner was born
on Feb. 13, 1920, near Loup City to Clarence and Ella (Garner) Sinner. His family moved to Blaine County when he was very young. He attended Brewster High School, left to help with the family ranch when his father died but returned a year later to graduate in 1939.
He was Blaine County sheriff for about 20 years.
He enjoyed cattle, fishing, playing cards, vacations in Minnesota and helping family and friends.
Survivors include one sister, Betty (Mrs. Floyd) Dunbar.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Luella Moning, Loena Sinner, Louise Sinner and Beulah Scofield; and two brothers, Floyd and Leonard.
Edith McConnell
Edith B. McConnell, 85, of Grand Island died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Richard Urbach officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Osteoporosis Foundation.
Mrs. McConnell was born
Dec. 17, 1914 to Stephen and Anna (Anderson) Andersen at Marquette, where she grew up and received her education. She attended Nebraska Central College in Central City and taught school in Hamilton and Merrick counties.
She married Clarence McConnell on Sept. 11, 1937 in Grand Island. Except for two years spent in St. Augustine, Florida during World War II, the couple lived in Central City until moving to Grand Island in 1952.
Survivors include two sons, Leon of Lincoln and Kent of Grand Island; one daughter, Diann (Mrs. Joe) Johnston of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Johnson of Central City and Lucille Nyblom of Aurora.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Esther Person, Erma Travis and Lillian May; and one granddaughter.
Kalyssa Lea Ruge-Stafford
Kalyssa Lea Ruge-Stafford, infant daughter of Crystal Ruge and Larry Stafford of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.
Theodore Gartner
ALBION -- Theodore "Ted" Gartner, 97, of Albion died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000 at the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 162 and V.F.W. Post 736 of Albion.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. wake service at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Anna Hurt
ASHTON -- Anna Hurt, 101, of Ashton died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 at Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell with the Revs. Larry Coulter and David Rykwalder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery west of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul with a vigil service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Hurt was born
Dec. 27, 1898 in Farwell to Joseph and Mary (Masinka) Jerabek. She was raised in Farwell and attended rural school near there.
On May 28, 1917 she married Edward Hurt in St. Paul. The couple farmed in that area.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and polka music.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell.
Survivors include one son, Daniel of Ashton; two daughters, Agnes (Mrs. Floyd) Kaslon of Loup City and Arlene (Mrs. Lyle Knott of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Louis; one grandson; one sister, Rose Kiser; and three brothers, Anton, Josep and William Jerabek.
Keith Morgan
ST. PAUL -- Keith R. Morgan, 62, of St. Paul died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000 as the result of an automobile accident southeast of St. Paul.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul with the Rev. Ken West officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.
Mr. Morgan was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Morgan was born
June 24, 1937 in Gibbon to Everett and Arlene (Henderson) Morgan. He was raised in Gibbon and Aurora.
He married Mary Linthicum on June 28, 1959. The couple moved to Wolbach in 1963, where Mr. Morgan owned and operated a dairy farm for 10 years.
He married Betty Gingirch on August 1, 1969, and continued to live in Wolbach for a while before moving to St. Paul.
He was employed at the Town Pump and the St. Paul Co-op Grain Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Angela Lyman of Staunton, Va.; two grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Charlene (Mrs. Bill) Copple of Kearney and Cheryl Stoltenberg of Memphis, Tenn.; one stepson, Allen Gingrich of Schuyler; and five stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald Smith
BURWELL -- Donald Scott Smith, 70, of Burwell died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Burwell Baptist Church. The Rev. David Koenigsberg will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Ambulance Supply Fund or to the church.
Mr. Smith was born
on Oct. 22, 1929, at Scotia to George and L. Alice (Scott) Smith. He spent his childhood in the Scotia area and spent a great deal of time with his grandparents. He graduated from North Loup-Scotia High School in 1947.
He entered the Navy in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He then worked on farms and ranches.
He married Lois Morrow on June 19, 1954, in Scotia. The couple lived in Grand Island, where Mr. Smith was the safety director for the TFS Trucking Co., Ericson and Burwell. He owned the S&S truck firm and worked for the city of Burwell before retiring in October 1991.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion and a member of the Burwell Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling via motor home.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Patt (Mrs. Randy) Yost of Alberta, Canada; three sons, Daniel of Lincoln, Dennis of Redmond, Ore., and Ed of Sabinal, Texas; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley (Mrs. Dale) Karrc or Ord.
He was preceded in death by one brother, George.
Donald Ash
SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Donald Eugene Ash, 67, of South St. Paul, formerly of Sargent, died Monday, Feb. 14, in the Fairview Ridge Hospital in Dakota County, Minn.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery with military graveside services.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Ash was born
on Sept. 6, 1932 to Raymond C. and Mabel (Dye) Ash in Gates. He attended school in Gates, Somerford and Sargent.
He entered the service in 1953 and was discharged in 1955 after being stationed in Germany.
He worked for Armors Packing House in Omaha, then transferred to the St. Paul plant in 1968. He later moved to South Dakota. He also worked for Featherlite Trailers of Minnesota and hauled horses for John McKay.
He was a member of American Legion Post 251 in Arcadia and the V.F.W. post in St. Paul, Minn.
Survivors include three brothers, Dean and Duane, both of Arcadia and Jim of Sargent and two sisters, Opal (Mrs. Kenneth) Kuh of Kennewick, Wash. and Beverly (Mrs. Dwaine) Johnson of Murrieta, Calif.
Dorothy Frauen
Dorothy E. Frauen, 92, of Grand Island, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Lakeview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorial are suggested to the Shriners Crippled Children Hospital.
Mrs. Frauen was born
Feb. 10, 1908, in Cozad to Morris and Mabel (Adams) Moeder. She attended school in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1927.
She married Paul Frauen in 1927 in Grand Island. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Frauen Oil.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of Nile, B.P.O. Does, the Platt Deutsche, and the Shrine Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Frauen also taught Sunday school at Trinity Methodist East Side Chapel.
She enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitch.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Dick of Grand Island and Paul of Zellwood, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Jane Moeder.
