Hadley Kelly
COLUMBUS -- Hadley Kelly, 73, of Columbus died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus. The Rev. Paul Rowoldt will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army, Platte County Food Pantry or donor's choice.
Mr. Kelly was born
on Aug. 26, 1926, at Monroe to Edd and Maude (Hill) Kelly. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 26, 1944, to June 19, 1946, and attained the rank of GM3c.
He married Vera Stenzel on April 10, 1946, at Belleville, Kan.
He lived in Columbus most of his life and also spent several years in York. He was a test engineer for the Nebraska Public Power District.
He was a past commander and lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the American Legion and charter member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed football and airplanes.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dian (Mrs. Bill) Carroll of Lincoln and Karen (Mrs. Sid) Cook of Grand Island; one son, Kent Kelly of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Gwen Harris of Genoa.
Earle Brown
Earle G. Brown, 79, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. There will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or Central Catholic High School.

Herbert Coughtry
Herbert E. Coughtry, 89, of Grand Island, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Coughtry was born
on Feb. 26, 1910, in Emerson to George and Mary (Andrews) Coughtry. He grew up and attended school in Emerson. He graduated from Emerson High School in 1929.
After graduation he worked for a railroad. He entered the U.S. Navy on April 23, 1943, in Omaha and was discharged on Oct. 21, 1945, at St. Louis, Mo.
He married Florence Shufelt on April 17, 1943, at South Sioux City. The couple lived in Carroll, Randolph, Norfolk, Lindsay and Grand Island.
After his discharge, he worked for the railroad, was a policeman, assistant to a plumber, truck driver, farmhand, and a general jack-of-all-trades. He retired from Lindsay Manufacturing in 1976.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Emerson, the VFW and a former member of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Lester and Douglas, both of Norfolk and Darrel of Grand Island; five daughters, Irene (Mrs. Kenneth) Wasenius of Oxford, Judith (Mrs. Robert) Streeter of Grand Island, Mary (Mrs. Robert) Howard of Greenwood, Barbara Coughtry of Kansas City, Kan. and Ethel Schlentz of Niobrara; 26 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Flora Stolz and Ella Harvey; and two granddaughters.
Frankie Kemling
Frankie M. Kemling, 67, of Grand Island, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Bertha Jares
ST. PAUL -- Bertha M. Jares, 78, of St. Paul, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Jacobsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Kittel
AURORA -- Gladys M. Kittel, 96, a resident of Hamilton Manor in Aurora, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Hamilton Manor.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Duane Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Hamilton Manor or the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Kittel was born
April 1, 1903, in rural Buffalo County to Alvin and Maggie (Wilt) Nash. She grew up in Buffalo County and received her education there. She received her teacher's training at Kearney State Teachers College.
She married Andrew Kittel on June 29, 1923, in Greeley, Colo. She taught school and was a homemaker. After moving to Grand Island she worked at the Yancey Hotel and the Conoco Motel. She had been a resident of Hamilton Manor since 1993.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney.
Survivors include three sons, Leonard of Westminster, Colo., Wayne of Barnett, Mo. and Kenneth of Grand Island; two daughters, Helen Hazard of Grand Island and Mildred Warren of Hereford, Colo. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; one son, Harold; and one grandson.
Jay Leininger
DONIPHAN -- Jay E. Leininger, 57, of Doniphan, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Robert Powers
ST. PAUL -- Robert D. Powers, 54, of St. Paul, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Lepper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Powers was born
March 24, 1945, at Scottsbluff to Cecil and Maxine (Towle) Powers. He attended Lexington Public Schools and grew up in the Central Nebraska area.
He married Mary Ann Steele Oct. 25, 1966, in Holdrege. The couple lived in Scottsbluff and York for 14 years while he worked for Missouri Valley Construction Co. doing road construction.
He worked for the company for 20 years and then retired when he became disabled. The couple later moved to Giltner for five years and then in 1994 moved to St. Paul.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his boys.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Louise (Mrs. Luke) Burson of Elba; two sons, Bobby Joe and Cecil, both of St. Paul; three grandchildren; and one brother, Cliff of York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joanne Knehans.
Lisa Schnase-Wampole
ST. LIBORY -- Lisa S. Schnase-Wampole, 30, of St. Libory, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Kunze will officiate. Mrs. Schnase-Wampole was cremated.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Acute Respiratory Stress Syndrome.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Troy Wampole of St. Libory; and her parents, Gary and Esther Schnase of Grand Island.
Floriann Bukowski
Floriann M. Bukowski, 55, of 313 E. 11th, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Miss Bukowski was born
July 7, 1944 at Ashton to Joseph and Anna (Gappa) Bukowski. She attended St. Francis Parochial School in Ashton and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Grand Island in 1962.
She was employed as a Certified Nursing Medication Aide at Tiffany Square Care Center until her health failed.
Miss Bukowski was a member of St. Mary's Parish and the Altar Society. She was also an avid Cornhusker fan.
Survivors include four brothers, William Bukowski of Decatur, Ill., Henry Bukowski of Las Vegas, Raymond Bukowski of Fountain, Colo., and Joseph Bukowski of Grand Island; and one sister, MaryAnn Miller of Decatur, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Eugene; and one sister, Margaret.
