June Thompson
OMAHA -- June E. Thompson, 81, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Parsons House Assisted Living Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Jack Rademacher officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church with a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters rosary and a 7 p.m. parish wake service.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the church. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thompson was born
Sept. 5, 1918, in Lincoln to William and Roxie (Hinson) Scherfius. She attended St. Mary's School in Grand Island, and then attended Marymount College in Salina, Kan.
On May 27, 1940, she married Robert Thompson in Grand Island where the couple lived until moving to Omaha several years ago.
Thompson enjoyed playing bridge, artistic painting, reading and playing the organ.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Thompson of Louisville, Ky., John Thompson of Omaha and Gregory Thompson of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two daughters, Susan Fletcher and Roxann (Mrs. Doyle) DeLaet, both of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Inez Morin; and two brothers, Bill and Hurley Scherffius.
'Bob' Schleichardt Sr.
Robert "Bob" Schleichardt Sr., 64, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center of Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Rob Inge will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie (Mrs. David) Johnson and Patricia (Mrs. Craig) Akerly of Grand Island; one son, Robert W. Schleichardt Jr. of Grand Island; four grandsons; three brothers, Gene of Chapman, Bill of Schuyler and Gary of Aurora; three sisters, Betty (Mrs. Everett) Wiley of Grand Island, Shirley (Mrs. Leonard) Boguslaw of Cairo and Sandy (Mrs. Bob) Schoenstein of Grand Island; and special friend, Jennifer Thompson.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth; an infant daughter, Carolyn; one brother, Ron; one sister, Delores Grotzky; and a grandson.
'Tom' Stanton III
Thomas "Tom" Stanton III, 48, of Grand Island died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Resurrection Catholic Church. The Rev. James Schmitt will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Vivian Linder
ALBION -- Vivian Irene Brannon Linder, 91, of Albion died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion. The Rev. Timothy Stahl will officiate. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery at Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mrs. Linder was born
March 13, 1908, to Delmer and Luella (Edgerton) Jones at Carrington, N.D. She was educated at rural Carrington schools and graduated from Carrington High School in 1928.
She married Laurence Anthony "Brownie" Brannon in March 1932 at Carrington. They lived in North Dakota. They later moved to Primrose and then to Hays Center. They then moved to Albion where Mr. Brannon operated a seed corn business. She worked as a homemaker during her early years and later worked as a secretary and deputy assessor at the Boone County Assessor's Office. Mr. Brannon died unexpectedly in February 1955.
She married Fred Linder on June 14, 1958, at the Lutheran Church in Oakland. They lived in Albion. She and her husband owned and operated the Self Service Laundry in Albion for more than 14 years.
She was a member of the local Nazarene Church where she played piano and was the church clerk for many years.
She entered the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion on March 7, 1988, because of advanced Alzheimer's disease. Before her illness, she was a frequent visitor to the center to mend clothing for clients, many of whom were good friends.
Survivors include two sons, James Brannon of Eagle Creek, Ore., and John Birch of Placinta, Calif.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gwen Nelson of Glennville, N.D., and Geneva Gies of Ortonville, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; two brothers, Othella and Clyde Jones; one sister, Eunice Ibsen; and an infant son in 1934.
Michael McComb
KEARNEY -- Michael L. McComb, 35, of Kearney died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Mr. McComb was cremated.
O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McComb was born
Sept. 29, 1964, to Leland and Rosana (Spanel) McComb in Broken Bow. The family moved to Kearney in 1975 where he attended elementary school. They moved to Omaha and he graduated from high school there in 1982. He attended Western Technical College in Sidney for two years.
He married Rhonda Carey in 1987 in Rapid City, S.D. He worked for Cabela's in Sidney until he was disabled by diabetes. He moved back to Kearney in 1997.
He was a member of the civil air patrol as a weather observer and owned and showed classic cars.
Survivors include his daughter, Christina Carey of Kearney; his parents, Leland McComb of Grand Island and Rose McComb of Kearney; one sister, Deena McComb of Kansas City, Mo., and his grandmother, Frances McComb of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, paternal grandfather and stepgrandfather.
Fred Meyer
GENOA -- Fred H. Meyer, 89, of Genoa died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Genoa Long Term Care.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Bev Minor will officiate. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Fred and Loretta Meyer Nursing Scholarship in care of Farmers State Bank in Silver Creek.
Mr. Meyer was born
Sept. 5, 1910, to Andrew and Marie (Hug) Meyer at Silver Creek. He attended District 48 School and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1927.
He married Loretta Campain on Aug. 22, 1938, at Fullerton. He farmed for more than 50 years and also worked at the Grand Island Ordnance Plant and Grosch Irrigation. He served as secretary/treasurer of the Platte Valley Rural Fire District for 26 years, served on the District 48 School Board, Silver Creek School Board and the Silver Creek Cemetery Board. He received the Aksarben Good Neighborhood Award on June 6, 1986.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek.
Survivors include a son, Milton Meyer of Arkansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Joseph) Mohanna of Omaha and Marcia (Mrs. Jim) Warnecke of Columbus; one sister, Margaret Garrig of Texas; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; three sisters, Alice Burruss, Lena Hansen and Clara Karges; one brother, John Meyer; and three grandsons.
Elmer Obermeier
AURORA -- Elmer Carl Obermeier, 73, of Aurora died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Al Duminy officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Obermeier was born
on April 26, 1926, in Hamilton County to Henry and Ida (Sundermeier) Obermeier. He grew up near Giltner, where he graduated from high school, and farmed with his parents.
He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 18, 1944, to Nov. 21, 1946, in the Philippines and Japan. Following his discharge, he returned to the farm near Giltner.
He married Lois Mohr on Sept. 26, 1948, at Grand Island. They moved to Aurora in 1964. He worked for the Farmers Union and Bob Hope Furniture. They operated Obermeier's Inc. from 1975 to 1986. He worked for Da-Ly Realty in Grand Island until June 1988, when he was appointed Hamilton County treasurer. He served until he retired in December 1994.
Mr. Obermeier had been a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. At the time of his death, he was a member of Messiah Lutheran in Aurora and had served on the church board.
He participated in 4-H as a child. He was a member of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Aurora American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; Keystone Masonic Lodge in Phillips; Hastings Shrine; Platt-Duetsche Society, Liederkranz and Saddle Club, all in Grand Island; and Lions Club.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing and ballroom dancing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Craig of Vine Grove, Ky., and Glenn of Aurora; one daughter, Terrie (Mrs. Jim) Urban of Emerson, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Clarence of Grand Island, Dale of Aurora and Henry of North Platte; and one sister, Marie Stoltenberg of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Paul.
Morris Rama
BROKEN BOW -- Morris W. Rama, 77, of Broken Bow, formerly of Merna, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Joseph Skupa
RAVENNA -- Joseph Skupa, 84, of Ravenna died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Karla Sheffy will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Cairo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Mr. Skupa was born
Feb. 14, 1915, to Frank and Bessie (Klinkacek) Skupa at Cairo. He was educated at District 58 School in Hall County.
He farmed in Buffalo County. In 1985, he moved to Ravenna.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Agnes Skupa of Ravenna.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
