Leonard Malone
LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Leonard Albert Malone, 79, of Lakewood, Colo., formerly of Orleans, died June 27, 1999, at the Mapleton Manor in Lakewood.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans. The Rev. Linda Knipping will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Orleans Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Malone was born
on Feb. 15, 1920, to Theodore and Mamie (White) Malone. He graduated from the Orleans High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 18, 1940, to Nov. 17, 1945.
After his service, he married Marge Malone. In the late 1940s, he moved to Lakewood, where he worked as a custodian in the Denver public schools.
Survivors include his brother, Floyd Malone of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Louisa Malone; and two brothers, Darrell and Donald Malone.
Irene Wunderlich
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Irene Clara Wunderlich, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Burwell, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m., Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wunderlich was born
on April 3, 1917, at Campbell to Omer and Amanda (Choquette) L'Heureux. She grew up on a farm near the French Canadian settlements of Upland and Campbell. She graduated from Campbell High School.
As a young woman, she worked in Hastings, where she met and married Raymond Wunderlich. They lived in Burwell, where they owned and operated several businesses. Mr. Wunderlich died in 1975.
Mrs. Wunderlich moved to Minden in 1984 to care for her sister, Delores McCroden. She moved to Tecumseh in 1992 to enjoy retirement near her daughter, Ruth Rother. She moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1998 to live near another daughter, Eva Cram.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society in Burwell.
Survivors include five daughters, Jean (Mrs. Bill) Duncan of Arlington Heights, Ill., Sandra (Mrs. Jack) Seiler of Plainwell, Mich., Eva Cram of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ruth (Mrs. Tom) Rother of Tecumseh and Kay (Mrs. Ronnie) Gilliland of Curtis; one son, Leonard Wunderlich of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bea (Mrs. Warren) Boisen of Kearney, Edith Wisner of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Della Chastain of Minneapolis, Minn.; and one brother, Odell L'Heureux of Sierra Vista, Ark.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
Mildred Brown
MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Mildred E. Brown, 87, of Maryville, Tenn., formerly of Litchfield, died Monday, July 5, 1999, in Maryville.
Arrangements are pending at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Alvin Hemmingsen Sr.
Alvin L. Hemmingsen Sr., 73, of Grand Island died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Hemmingsen was born
July 21, 1926, at Primrose to Lars and Nettie (Farlee) Hemmingsen. He attended school in Primrose. His family moved to Minnesota in 1942, where Mr. Hemmingsen farmed with his father.
He married Pauline Fultz in September of 1947. They took over the family farm until moving to Grand Island in 1951.
Mr. Hemmingsen owned and operated his own carpentry, contracting and construction business in Grand Island.
He married Duffay Rios in June 1979.
He was a landlord in retirement. He had purchased and refurbished several properties that he rented to tenants.
He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche and the Eagles.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Hemmingsen and Alvin Hemmingsen Jr., both of Grand Island; two daughters, Julene Hemmingsen Kay and Doreen King, both of Grand Island; two step-daughters, Gloria Rios of Charleston, S.C., and Claudia Guillaume of Paris, France; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Hemmingsen of California and Vern Hemmingsen of Minnesota; and two sisters, Viola Johnston of Chapman and Gladys Burda of Tracy, Minn.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ron and Lyle Hemmingsen; a grandson; a brother, Gene Hemmingsen; and a sister, Irene Hemmingsen.
Bobby Warner
Bobby Ray Warner, 43, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Revs. Don Buhrman and Tom Ryan will officiate. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the All Faiths Funeral Home. Mr. Warner will be cremated with a private family inurnment at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Chiarbos-Warner.
Catherine Ewing
SPALDING -- Catherine "Kate" Z. Ewing, 80, of Spalding died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Vicar Art Helbig will officiate. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Melvin Troester
HAMPTON -- Melvin Paul "Mel" Troester, 72, of Hampton died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at the Aurora Memorial Long Term Care.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. George Damm will officiate. Burial will be at the Salem Cemetery near Hampton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Solt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Troester was born
Sept. 22, 1927, at Hampton to Gustav and Gertrude (Medow) Troester. He attended school at the Salem Lutheran Church School and graduated from Hampton High School in 1944.
He married Wynona Fae "Noni" Carlson on March 25, 1951, in Hampton.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from Dec. 5, 1950, until being honorably discharged from active duty in June of 1952.
The couple farmed near Hampton until 1976, when their son took over the farming operation. They then purchased the Wall Grocery, renaming it Mel's Market. They owned and operated the market until 1980. They also owned and operated M&W Transfer for several years.
Mr. Troester had been a director and agent for German Farmers Mutual Insurance for 33 years and had served as the secretary-treasurer. He retired from selling insurance in 1999.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he served in most of the offices. He served on the Salem Cemetery Board and was past president. He was active in the American Legion Post 141 and 40/8 Post 136. He was also a member of the Nebraska Livestock Feeder's Association and was active in the community.
He enjoyed golfing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Noni of Hampton; two sons, Doug of Glenwood, Iowa, and Dallas of Aurora; a daughter, Damaris (Mrs. Mark) Olsen of Hampton; a brother, Omer Troester of Fremont; a sister, Larue Rehrs of Hampton; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two infant children.
Claude Eden
COLUMBUS -- Claude R. Eden, 86, of Columbus died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. The Rev. Tom Weisbecker will officiate. Burial will be at St. Johns Cemetery in rural Lindsay. McKown Funeral Home in Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, and visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Eden was born
April 20, 1914, at Humphrey to Oliver and Hattie (Johnson) Eden. He attended District No. 88 in rural Humphrey and District No. 67 in Humphrey.
He married Beatrice Fleming on Sept. 23, 1940, in Nevada, Iowa.
He farmed north of Monroe for 31 years before retiring and moving to Columbus in 1977.
He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, watching baseball and attending his grandchildren's activities.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Holy Name, Trustee and Peptual Adoration. He served on the District No. 31 school board.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice of Columbus; four daughters, Judy Eden of Columbus, Sr. Karen Eden of Waverly, Connie (Mrs. David) Shank of Portland, Ore. and Lori Eden of Omaha; three sons, Jon Eden of Omaha, Ted Eden of Grand Island and Greg Eden of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Richard, Mark and Joseph; two brothers, Edwin "Bud" Eden and Henry Eden; and a sister, Ruby Werkmeister.
Richard DeBacker Richard L. DeBacker, 75, of Grand Island died Friday, June 23, 2000 at his home after an illness.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral with Father Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church with a rosary/wake service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Central Catholic Foundation or St. Mary's Parish Center Building Fund.
