Adeline Beckman
ALBION -- Adeline Mary Beckman, 80, of Albion died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery in Albion.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. wake service, Thursday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. Beckman was born
July 28, 1919, at Howells to John and Rosie (Barta) Novotny. She attended Howells Public Schools.
She married Lawrence Beckman Aug. 15, 1939, at St. John's Catholic Church at Howells. The couple lived in Albion. Mr. Beckman died May 28, 1990.
She was a homemaker and an Avon representative for the last 35 years.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Avon Presidents Club.
Survivors include two sons, Ray of Columbus and Steve of Albion; two daughters, Betty of Phoenix and Mary Lou (Mrs. Dennis) Borer of Albion; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Peg (Mrs. Leco) Novacek of Omaha and Joan (Mrs. George) Boswell of Leesville, La.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marci Haufman and Wilma Matson and one brother John Lambert.
Leonard Eckstrom
PALMER -- Leonard H. Eckstrom, 86, of Palmer died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. The Rev. Robert Schilling will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.
Mr. Eckstrom was born
Oct. 16, 1913, near Palmer to George J. and Mary T. (Deertz) Eckstrom. He grew up and attended rural schools north of Palmer. He farmed with his parents.
On Dec. 26, 1940, he married Milda Marie Burkhardt west of Palmer. They lived northwest of Palmer where they farmed. In 1982 he retired and they moved into town.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Palmer Senior Center.
He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Walter E. and Roy, both of Palmer; one daughter, Mary Jean (Mrs. Don) Bragg of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles of Central City, Ervin of Palmer and Richard of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter.
Ruby Glendy
BROKEN BOW -- Ruby S. Glendy, 86, of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Keith Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Custer County Hospice.
Mrs. Glendy was born
Dec. 24, 1913, at Broken Bow to Bert and Rosa (Deal) Oxford. She attended Ash Creek rural school.
On March 1, 1933, she married Clarence E. Glendy at Broken Bow. They farmed for many years before moving to Broken Bow. She worked for a short time at Becton Dickinson and also worked at the City Cafe in Broken Bow for 30 years. Mr. Glendy died May 9, 1979.
She enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include one son, Clayton of Broken Bow; one daughter, Karen Henion of Wheatland, Wyo.; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Orville Oxford of Council Bluffs, Iowa and two sisters, Marie Eggleston of Pine Bluffs, Wyo. and Charlotte Esch of Broken Bow.
She was preceded in death by one son, Darrell; two brothers, Lawrence and Clarence; one sister, Melva Dunkel; and one great-grandson.
Margaret Krausnick
SPALDING -- Margaret L. Krausnick, 83, of Spalding, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. John Schlaf will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Spalding.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m. at Dolce Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
She was born
March 23, 1917, in Spalding to William P. and Gertrude (Zahm) Krausnick. She graduated from the Nebraska School for the Blind at Beatrice. She lived at home with her parents while they were living and then at Friendship Villa in Spalding since 1966. She was organist for the chapel and news reporter at the Villa.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include a brother, Clarence of Syracuse, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Schlaf and Georgina Krausnick and one brother, Leo of Phoenix.
Margaret Kriewald
NORTH LOUP -- Margaret Helen Kriewald, 78, of North Loup died Monday, May 29, 2000, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the North Loup United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in North Loup.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the North Loup-Scotia Rescue Unit or the church.
Mrs. Kriewald was born
March 15, 1922, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa to John and Mathilde (Pieper) Stuhr. She spent her childhood on farms near the Minden, Avoca and Hancock areas in Pottawattamie County. She was in 4-H and youth groups within her church. She helped her mom with a large garden and also enjoyed helping her dad with the farm chores.
She graduated from high school in Hancock, Iowa in 1939. She then obtained a teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in a country school for two years near Hancock.
After teaching Mrs. Kriewald attended Van Zandt business School in Omaha and later worked for the Omaha World Herald in the mailing and bookkeeping departments.
In February 1948 she married August C. Kriewald and the couple lived on the family farm near North Loup until 1978. Mr. Kriewald died in 1985. Mrs. Kriewald then moved to the No Lo Villa in North Loup.
She enjoyed following the activities of her grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying baseball. Her favorite teams were the North Loup Scotia Wildcats, Nebraska Cornhuskers and St. Louis Cardinals. She liked to take pictures and baking.
She was a member of the North Loup United Methodist Church and Ruth Circle.
Survivors include one son, Gordon of Scotia; three daughters, Carole (Mrs. Jim) Wray of Scotia, Karen (Mrs. Bill) Plate of North Loup and Sharon (Mrs. Calvin) Kortlever of Orange City, Iowa; two brothers, John of Overland Park, Kan. and Paul of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one sister, Jean (Mrs. Marlin) Lemonds of West Des Moines, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Larry Baillie
WHITTIER, Calif. -- Larry Baillie, 57, of Whittier, Calif., formerly of Ansley and Broken Bow, died Monday, May 29, 2000, in California.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Baillie was born
April 10, 1943, at Broken Bow to Howard R. and Mabel A. (Robinson) Baillie. He attended Ansley schools and graduated from Ansley High School in 1961. He also attended college and later worked for the State Department of Roads. In 1964, he married Joyce Bigerstaff and they lived in Broken Bow.
In 1965 he moved to California. He lived in Norwalk, Pico Rivera and later Whittier, where he worked for Farmer John Meats for 30 years as a diesel mechanic.
On Sept. 12, 1970, he married Joyce Govier in Las Vegas. She died in 1992.
He enjoyed motorcycle riding and fishing.
Survivors include one daughter, Angela Craig of Lincoln, his mother of Broken Bow and one sister, Judy (Mrs. Don) Barnett of North Platte.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his father, an infant son, Ronald and son, Rodney.
Charles 'Chick' Auhl
Charles "Chick" H. Auhl, 92, of Grand Island died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Julie Bringelson will officiate.
Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Auhl was born
Nov. 19, 1907, to Charles F. and Kathryn (Langlitz) Auhl in Colby, Kan. He grew up and attended school in Grand Island. He worked briefly in the iron mines in Sunrise, Wyo.
He married Mildred Rohling on Feb. 6, 1937, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Valentine, where he helped his father at the fishing resort at Pelican Lake and later at his father's trout hatchery/farm at Valentine.
The family returned in 1943 to Grand Island, where he worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant during World War II and the Korean War. He later worked for Geer Maurer Construction Co., a local sugar beet factory and painting contractor Bill Werner until he retired.
Mrs. Auhl died in November 1991. He continued to live in Grand Island.
He was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ashlar Lodge #33 A.F. & A.M. and Eagles Club.
He enjoyed fishing, sports and his family.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Jack) Richards of Grand Island; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Orval, Frank and Royce; and three sisters, Alice, Marie and Mildred.
Donald Roush
Donald S. Routh, 69, of Grand Island died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at his home after a brief illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Roush donated his body to the state Anatomical Board. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Roush was born
Jan. 4, 1931, to David and Ruth Roush in Lincoln. He grew up and attended school in Grand Island. He graduated from St. John's Military Academy in Wisconsin.
He entered the U.S. Navy on Jan. 13, 1948, and was discharged on Jan. 30, 1952. He then entered the U.S. Marine Corps on Oct. 1, 1956, and was discharged on Jan. 30, 1961.
He married Marlene Leschinsky on June 23, 1956. After he finished his military service, they lived in Grand Island. He owned Roush Motors until 1977. He also was an arborist and worked for Titan plant security.
He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and National Arborist Association.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael of Grand Island; one daughter, Dana (Mrs. Ron) Jelinek of Grand Island; and one sister, Janet Camaras of Newport Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lowell.
