Harold Blackman
AINSWORTH -- Harold M. "Blackie" Blackman, 88, of Ainsworth died Monday, May 1, 2000, at the Brown County Hospital in Ainsworth.
Graveside memorial services were on Thursday at the Ainsworth Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Beebout officiated.
Memorials are suggested to the Brown County Hospital or the donor's choice.
Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Blackman was born
on Aug. 16, 1911, at Woodbine, Iowa, to Frank and Florence (Howath) Blackman.
He married Betty J. Clarence on Aug. 19, 1952, at Orange City, Iowa. The Blackmans moved in 1962 to Ainsworth, where he managed the Ainsworth Elks Lodge. He retired in 1977 but continued to work part time at the Elks Lodge and Charlie's Drive-In.
Survivors include four children, Connis Lee Olsen of Cupertino, Calif., Mrs. Lyle Lewis of Montpelier, Idaho, Debra Palmer of Grand Island and Clay Blackman of Omaha; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
His wife died on Dec. 16, 1997. He also was preceded in death by one brother.
Isabel Brown
CLARKS -- Isabel Brown, 93, of Clarks died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Congregational Church in Clarks. The Rev. Darryl Keeney will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Brown was born
on Aug. 2, 1906, at Clarks to Fred and Maud (McLean) Brown. She graduated from Clarks High School. She lived her entire life in Clarks as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Congregational Church in Clarks. She faithfully attended Nebraska football games for more than 30 years.
She is survived by cousins.She was preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace, Edwin and Jean Brown; and one sister, Betty Brown.
Shane Jantzi
FAIRMONT -- Shane Nicholas Jantzi, 31, of Fairmont died April 27, 2000, at his parents' home in Fairmont.
Services were on Monday at the Fairmont Community Church. The Revs. Bob Troyer and Betsy Galloway Carew officiated. Burial was in Blue Mound Cemetery in Milford.
Farmer and Son Funeral Home of Geneva was in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Jantzi was born
on Nov. 3, 1968, at Omaha to Richard and Karen (Havel) Jantzi. He lived in Carter Lake, Iowa. He moved to Albany, Ore., in 1973 to Fairmont in 1974 and back to Albany in 1976. He moved back to Fairmont in 1981 and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1986.
He worked for O'Connor Farms, Rohrig Farms, Bonnevilla Homes, Platte River Irrigation and Atlantic Homes. He lived in Lincoln, where he attended college. He also attended colleges in Phoenix and Grand Island.
His interests included fishing, golfing, baseball, darts, cards, cribbage, pool and hunting. He was a member of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include his parents; one brother, Scott Jantzi of Grand Island; one sister, Shelly (Mrs. Brent) Reed of Fairmont; and his grandparents, Don and Gladys Nichols of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lumir Havel and Roman and Edith Jantzi.
Fritz Struempler
MASON CITY -- Fritz E. Struempler, 70, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at his home near Mason City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. The Rev. Leon Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Christ Lutheran Cemetery in the Buffalo community south of Oconto.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials have been established to the Mason City Rescue Unit or the Christ Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
Mr. Struempler was born
on Aug. 25, 1929, south of Oconto to Fritz and Minnie (Schwartz) Struempler. He attended rural school near Oconto through the eighth grade.
He married Bonnie Weaver on Feb. 4, 1951, at the Buffalo Lutheran Church. He worked in the valley for two years before moving to the Tallin Table, where they lived and farmed for 21 years. They had lived in the Mason City area since 1974.
Mr. Struempler was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Loup City. In May 1993, the Struemplers received a Good Neighbor Citation from the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben and the Omaha World-Herald. He carefully tended his many trees and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Dave) Steele of Lexington and Patricia (Mrs. Paul) Wathen of Hastings; one son, Larry of Denver; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; six brothers, Hank of Berwyn, Herb, Gerald and Ronald, all of Oconto, Eric of Rockford, Ill., and Ted of Cozad; and three sisters, Elsie (Mrs. LeRoy) Cyriacks of Gothenburg, Geraldine (Mrs. Gary) Mitchell of Bella Vista, Ark., and Adele (Mrs. Paul) Chandler of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William; and three sisters, Lottie Struempler and two infant sisters, Erna and Edna.
Deborah Chase-Douthit
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Deborah Lynn Chase-Douthit, 48, of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at her home after a long fight with cancer.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Abundant Life Christian Center. The Rev. Stephen Warriner will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home, 2929 S. Locust.
Memorials are suggested to the Deborah Lynn Chase-Douthit Memorial Fund.
Mrs. Chase-Douthit was born
on April 20, 1952, in Grand Island to Lonnie and Melva (Pollock) Chase. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Northwest High School in 1970.
She married James S. Douthit on Aug. 2, 1971, at Grand Island. While living in Grand Island, she worked at home, the Salvation Army and Let's Party. She had lived in the Loveland and Fort Collins, Colo., area since 1987.
She was a member of Resurrection Fellowship Church in Loveland and Abundant Life Christian Church while in Grand Island.
She enjoyed going to auctions, garage sales and flea markets, hunting for antiques and collectibles. She also enjoyed interior decorating and collecting teddy bears. She was a Christian.
Survivors include a son, Jason B. Douthit of Loveland, Colo.; a daughter, Brooke R. Douthit of Fort Collins, Colo.; three grandchildren; her father and stepmother, Lonnie and Maryetta Chase of Bennett, Colo.; a brother, David Chase of Marquette; a sister, DeAnn Hassett of Alda; and a grandmother, Fern Chase of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Oak Douthit; her mother; and grandfather, Lawrence Chase.
Rev. Paul Martin
ALBANY, Ohio -- The Rev. Paul Martin, 89, of Albany, Ohio, died April 28, 2000, after a month-long illness.
Services were on Tuesday at the Albany Methodist Church. The Revs. Edward Jones and Arthur Crabtree officiated. Burial was in Athens Memory Garden.
Memorials are suggested to the Wellspring Retreat Center of Albany, the church, Grace Academy of Athens or Athens Hospice.
Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home of Albany was in charge of arrangements.
The Rev. Martin was born
on Dec. 31, 1910, in Chase, Kan., to Roland E. and Ellasafronia (Hatter) Martin. He excelled in track and basketball throughout high school and college, establishing a pole vault mark that stood as a Nebraska state record for 16 years. He graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan and Denver Iliff School of Theology and was ordained in 1937.
He married Esther Witte.
He served as a full-time Methodist minister in Nebraska for 45 years. He pastored churches in Johnson, Macon, Trenton, Cambridge, Holdrege, Grand Island and Lincoln and served as district superintendent while living in Scottsbluff. As superintendent, he flew a conference-funded airplane to 44 scattered district churches for six of those years in the Nebraska northwest. He often worked the harvest fields and loved hunting, fishing and piloting his own plane.
Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Kansas City, where he was an associate pastor for five years. He and his wife joined three of their children in 1984 in Albany to help establish a rehabilitation center for ex-cult victims. He has also served as interim pastor for six or more churches, including Albany Methodist.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Miriam (Mrs. William) Doell of Olathe, Kan., and Lois (Mrs. Phillip) Jones of Albany; two sons, Dr. Paul R. Martin and Stephen Martin, both of Albany; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a grandson and two younger brothers, Howard and Wallace Martin.
Royal Snyder
DERBY, Kan. -- Royal Robert Snyder, 91, of Derby, Kan., died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Smith Mortuary in Derby. Additional services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to service time Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Home Health Care and Hospice in Derby.
Mr. Snyder was born
on March 6, 1909, in Broken Bow to Walter and Ada (King) Snyder.
He married Thelma Irene Geiser on March 29, 1933, at Taylor. Through the years, Mr. Snyder farmed, worked for Boeing Aircraft and as a Unified School District 260 custodian. The Snyders had lived in Derby since 1956.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clifford Snyder and Robert Snyder, both of Denver; three daughters, Irene Fisher of Derby, Roscella Baker of Broken Bow and Darlene Watson of Westminister, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Snyder of Caldwell, Ore., and Claire Snyder of Nampa, Idaho; and four sisters, Lucille Whitehead and Ardyce Pline, both of Boise, Idaho, Dorothy Preshaw of Redford, Ore., and Ada Pine of Caldwell, Idaho.
Rosemary Mullen
Rosemary Mullen, 69, of 719 Gunbarrel Road, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Curran Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church, with a scripture wake service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Mullen was born
March 28, 1931, at Grand Island to Francis and Frances (Nabity) Janky. She attended District 29 School in Chapman, and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1949.
She married Robert R. Mullen on July 25, 1950, in Grand Island. Mrs. Mullen was employed by Ernest Bakery, J.C. Penney, State Farm Insurance and the Grand Island Independent as a paper carrier. She was a rural route carrier until her retirement in 1996.
She enjoyed her pets, canning, gardening and crocheting. She was an avid softball player.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, of Grand Island; a son, Patrick, of Tulsa, Okla.; five daughters, Deb (Mrs. Roy) Brandt of Tulsa, Okla., Sharon (Mrs. Vince) Zavala of Grand Island, Dianna of Kearney, Michelle of Lincoln and Stephanie (Mrs. Greg) Hollinger of Phoenix; four grandchildren; a brother, George Janky of Grand Island; and a sister, Helen (Mrs. Joe) Ruzicka of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Joseph Janky.
