Bud Gaston 1924-2004

Bud Gaston, 79, of Potter died Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Beverly Health Care in Sidney.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Interment will be in the Potter Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Potter American Legion Post No. 291.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church building fund, The Potter Rescue Unit, or the Memorial Health Center Hospice.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Francis A. “Bud” Gaston was born October 30, 1924 in Mahaska, Kan., to Milford and Anna (Bonawitz) Gaston. When he was three years old he moved with his family from Mahaska to a farm near Lindberg, Wyo. where he grew up. He attended the Golden Prairie School, west of Lindberg. He was drafted into the United States Army during World War II where he served from 1944 until 1946. In 1948 he moved to Potter and worked for Frontier Refinery Company for three months before he purchased the Texaco Station and Motel in Potter.
He was united in marriage to Leona Jung on Dec. 30, 1951 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Potter. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney on April 6, 1952.
Bud has been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney. He has done community service for many years in Potter and Cheyenne County including; serving as a board member on the Village of Potter for 16 years; the Mayor of Potter for 5 years; a past member of the Potter Volunteer Fire Department; a member of the Potter American Legion, and firing squad; serving as representative committee member of the Salvation Army in the Potter area; serving on the Potter American Legion Boy’s State committee; serving on Cheyenne County Visitor’s committee, and most recently he received a Sidney and Cheyenne County Business Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award.
Survivors include his wife Leona, of Potter; two sons, Wendall Gaston and his wife Deanna of Sidney, and Robert Gaston and his wife Shirley of Potter; one daughter, Arlene Heilbrun and her husband, Douglas, of Holyoke, Colo., one sister, Bonnie Bastin and her husband Ben of Burns, Wyo.; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Leona Woolington.

Evelyn (Tudy) Withers 1922-2004

Evelyn (Tudy) Withers, 81 of Chappell, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 17, in the United Methodist Church in Chappell with the Rev. Harun Gatobu officiating. Burial will be in the Chappell Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the Chappell Golf Course for a bench or to the Chappell Adopt A Dog.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Chappell.
Evelyn (Tudy) Withers was born in Chappell, on December 14, 1922 to Walter and Esther (Nelson) Higgins. She attended schools in Chappell and graduated from Chappell High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Van C. Withers on December 17, 1941 in Galveston, Texas where Van was stationed in the Army. Over the next several years, they lived on Army Bases in Tennessee and North Carolina. When Van was shipped overseas to Germany, she returned to Chappell. She and Van were married for 56 before his death in 1997.
Tudy lived her entire life in Chappell, working at various jobs, including: type setting at the newspaper office, secretary at Farm Bureau and secretary at Richards Law Office. After she retired, she worked for a time as a volunteer E.M.T.
Tudy was an accomplished artist and did many beautiful paintings. She also sang in the church choir and many other events, such as Christmas cantatas. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards. One of the great joys in her life was her little dog, Wobie. She had been a member of the Chappell United Methodist Church for 57 years.
Survivors include four daughters; Kerry Harrower and husband Mike of Elbert, Colo., Diann Watt and husband Garry of Sidney, Sharlene Withers of Sidney, and Sherry Giebler and husband Bruce of Englewood, Colo.; one sister, Iva Johnson of Loveland, Colo.; one sister-in-law and best friend, Alice Higgins of Chappell; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers; Walter (Mike) Higgins, Alvin Higgins, Harold Higgins, John Higgins and Kenneth (Babe) Higgins.

Joaquin M. Lopez 1927-2004

Joaquin M. Lopez, 76, of Sidney, died Saturday, May 15, 2004 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 19 at St. Patrick’s Church with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at St. Patrick’s Church. The family has designated either St. Patrick’s Church or the Diabetes Foundation as the memorials. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
Joaquin M. Lopez was born Aug. 21, 1927 at Kersey, Colo., the son of Frank and Francisca (Medina) Villalabos. He was raised and attended school in Colorado. He worked a number of years as a farm worker in Texas, Colorado and Nebraska. He was married to Zenaida Torres on Sept. 8, 1948 at Brownsville, Texas. They moved to Cheyenne County in 1951 where Joaquin started working at Sioux Army Depot. He worked for SAD for 3 years before hiring on with Union Pacific Railroad where he worked until retiring in 1980. Joaquin had a passion for gardening.
Survivors include his wife Zenaida of Sidney; sons and daughter-in-law, Valentine and Sandy Lopez, Luis Lopez and Bobby Lopez all of Sidney; daughter, Concepcion Gonzales of Dallas, Texas; brother, Ramon Villalabos of Tampico, Mex., his sisters, Teresa Dias of Tampico, Mex. and Jesus Villalabos of Acapulco, Mex.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Francis Eugene Jorgensen 1943-2004

Francis (Fran) Eugene Jorgensen, of Cambridge, Neb., age 60, died May 11 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha after battling cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
Services will be held Friday, May 14, at 2:30 p.m., at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor David Rowe officiating. Burial will follow at Cambridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Cambridge School Foundation for a scholarship in lieu of flowers.
Fran was born August 13, 1943 to Lars Alfred and Mable Luceal (Foster) Jorgensen in Sidney. He attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture (UNSA) in Curtis, Neb., graduating in 1961. He attended college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduating with a BS in Agriculture in January 1966. He also attended graduate school at Kearney State College and received his MS in August 1971.
Fran married Betty J. Seggerman of Fairbury, Neb., on August 14, 1965. He and Betty had two children Michael D. Jorgensen and Beth E. Jorgensen.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Edith Foster; his paternal grandparents, Chris and Katie Jorgensen; his parents, Alfred and Mable Jorgensen and one niece, Susan Jorgensen.
Fran is survived by his wife Betty of Cambridge; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Julie Jorgensen of Kearney; daughter Beth Jorgensen of Kearney; brothers Roger and wife Marjorie Jorgensen of Sidney, and Stanley and wife Launa Jorgensen of Yorkville, Ill.

Leslie L. “Bud” From 1924-2004

Leslie L. “Bud” From, 80, of Lodgepole, died at Sunset Manor Care Facility in Brush, Colo. on Monday, May 17, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 21, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lodgepole with Pastor Dawn Coffey and Wayne Fraass officiating. Burial will be held in the Pleasantview Cemetery in Lodgepole. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.
Leslie Leroy From was born on May 9, 1924 to David Harold and Hazel Ione (Kilgore) From on a farm north of Chappell. He moved with his family to David City in Butler County, Neb. Bud attended school in David City and later attended school in Chappell. He graduated from Chappell in 1944 and then joined the Air Force. He received an honorable discharge from the Air Force. Bud married Mildred Marie Thompson in Marysville, Kan. On March 9, 1946, to this union was born four children, Lezlee, Kent, Bobbi and David. Bud and Millie raised their family on a farm South of Lodgepole. Bud worked with his dad and brother Jim raising cattle, horses and farming. Bud loved to drive and drove for a trucking company going from coast to coast. He then formed a corporation with Jim called From Bros. Trucking. This was Bud’s favorite occupation, he loved hauling cattle and his truck was a familiar sight on the highways. Bud was the first president of the Nebraska State Rodeo Association and was the saddle bronc champion of 1956. He competed in the saddle bronc riding and steer wrestling for many years and then retired. At the age of 53, he entered the saddle bronc riding plus three other events and won the saddle bronc riding at the first Senior Pro Rodeo in Hyannis, Neb. Bud was a member of the American Legion in Lodgepole and was a color guard in the Old Settlers parade in Lodgepole for many years. He loved his children and grandchildren and was very excited with their accomplishments. He was able to pass down his love for the sport of rodeo and his strong traits of hard work and honesty. He would always tell them to “Win A Ribbon”.
He is survived by his daughter Lezlee Andersen of Lodgepole and Jim Andersen of Sidney, Kent From and wife Vicki of Sidney, Bobbi Emerson of Lodgepole and David From and wife Heather of Horseshoe Bend, Idaho; 10 grandchildren, Brad Andersen of Aurora, Colo., Jennifer Schadegg of Sidney and Jaime Andersen of Loveland, Colo., Tami Vowers and husband Mark of Sidney, Dusty Shields and husband Curtis of Torrington, Wyo., Cody Eichthaler and husband Todd of Bridgeport, Halee Emerson of Lodgepole, Amanda From of Ogallala, Samantha From of Thedford, Neb. and Tagg and wife Jayme of Wheatland, Wyo.; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Jessie June Helius from McCook and Marjorie Nelson of Lodgepole; and one brother, Jim From and wife Mary Jo of Lodgepole; he also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends whose lives he has made a great impression on. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mildred and son-in-law, John.

Pedro Salas Ornelas 1926-2004

Pedro (Pete) Salas Ornelas, 77, died peacefully May 21.
Pedro was born September 13, 1926 in Coleman, Texas. He was a World War II veteran stationed in the Philippines. Pedro worked 31 years with the Federal Civil Service. Starting at the Sioux Ordnance Depot in Sidney, he transferred to Edwards Air Force Base in 1964.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Ornelas; mother, Andrea Loza; sister, Irene Flores; two brothers, Johnny and Richard Loza, all of Abilene, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary P. Ornelas; two sons, Pedro and wife Veronica Ornelas, Jr., of Bakersfield, Calif., Richard G. Ornelas of Denver; five daughters, Becky Reveles and husband Henry, Teresa Moore and husband Greg, Francis Frausto and husband Edmund, Veronica Ortiz and Olga Pike, all of Bakersfield; brothers Jose Guadalupe Suniga of Los Angeles and Tony Loza of Abilene; sisters Anita Valencia and Eulalia Torres also from Abilene; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Eleanora Kreinbring 1924-2004

Eleanora Kreinbring, 80, of Sidney, died Monday May 24, 2004 at Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, in Trinity Lutheran Church – South Divide with Pastor Philip Found officiating. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Memorials have been established to the Lutheran Hour.
Eleanora Jane Johannah Brauer was born April 8, 1924 on a farm near Sidney, the daughter of Emmanuel and Anna (Moeller) Brauer. She was baptized in 1924 and confirmed on June 4, 1939 in Trinity Lutheran Church. She received her elementary education in the Lutheran and District Schools and graduated in 1943 from Sidney High School.
On April 16, 1944 she was united in marriage to Ervin A. Kreinbring at Trinity Lutheran Church – South Divide. She worked as a housekeeper for a number of years, then at the chicken houses near Sidney, and later as a foster grandparent.
She was a true and giving person, who offered a hand to many in need. She will be sorely missed.
Survivors include her four brothers, Alvin Brauer and wife Dixie of Decatur, Texas, Lloyd Brauer and wife Mary Jo of North Platte, Vern Brauer of Anderson, Texas, and Roland Brauer and wife Patricia of Norfolk; one sister Betty Leech of Rawlins, Wyo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Dr. Max Edwin Cory 1920-2004

Dr. Max Edwin Cory, 84, Burlington, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at the Klein Center in Burlington. Memorial service will be Saturday, May 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington with Rev. Donald Hoornstra officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Alzheimer’s Association and American Diabetes Association.
Max was born Jan. 20, 1920 in Alexandria, Neb., the son of Merle and Goldie (Borland) Cory.
Max married Lois Wright on Jan. 24, 1944 in Phoenix, Ariz.
He was an Army major, and a dentist in Sidney and Lincoln for many years. Max was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, a 50-year Rotary member and named a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Burlington; daughter, Julie Swanson and husband Steven of Burlington; sons, Max Cory, Jr. of Spencer, Iowa and William W. Cory of Savannah, Ga.; brothers, Jack Cory of Grand Island, Neb. and Richard Cory of Chico, Calif.; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Michael Ray Pangle 1958-2004

Michael Ray Pangle, 46, a long-time Brush, Colo. area resident, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo. Funeral service will be today at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Heer Mortuary and Crematory in Brush is in charge of arrangements.
Michael was born April 10, 1958 in Brush, the son of Leroy and Betty Pangle.
He married Michelle Baker on Dec. 17, 2001 in Ft. Morgan, Colo.
Michael had a Schwan’s route in Sidney for many years.
He enjoyed hunting, boating, camping and fishing. Michael loved being outdoors and also liked playing golf and hunting for arrowheads. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle of Ft. Morgan; mother and step-father, Betty Pangle and Mel McDaniel of Brush; grandmother, Ola Gordon of Pampa, Texas; daughters, Angie and Jamie Pangle, both of Brush; step-children, Jesse Perez, Angelo Perez and Rachel Perez, all of Brush; brothers, Leroy Pangle of Hudson, Colo. and Jeff Pangle of Kearney, Neb.; sisters, Brenda Guzman of Brighton, Colo. and Kim Mundt of Kearney and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Pangle in 1981 and brother, Douglas Pangle in 2001.
