Maude Beatrice McKee

REXFORD, Kan. - Maude Beatrice McKee, 96, died Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2000) at Sheridan County Hospital in Hoxie, Kan.

She was born Feb. 29, 1904, in Indian Territory, Okla., to Jess and Jannie (Wayche) Hays. She was raised in Allen, Okla., and attended school there. She moved to Colby, Kan., in the 1930s.

On April 19, 1939, she married Harley McKee at Scott City, Kan. They lived on a farm south of Rexford. She was a homemaker. She had been a resident of the Sheridan County Long Term Care Center for 13 years.

She was a member of the Rexford Community Church, Royal Neighbors of America, Social Hour, and HDU.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harley; three brothers, Oren "Chalk," Ross and Truman Hays; one sister, Bonnie Hammonds; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Gillum Coon; one great-great-grandson, Christopher Nordyke; and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include one adopted son, Oren "Sid" and wife, Lucille Nevins, of San Francisco, Calif.; one foster son, Warren Nevins, also of San Francisco; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m.; at the Rexford Community Church with Pastor Gary Taylor officiating. Interment will be at the Rexford Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, 1-8 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home of Selden and Monday, beginning at 8 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to The Shepherd's Staff.

Shirley Davis

CAMBRIDGE - Shirley Davis died Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2000) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 30, 1935, at Decatur, Ala., to John Guy and Helen Imojean (Moore) Corum. She graduated from high school in Monroe, Mich.

She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-1955 and achieved the rank of corporal.

On Oct. 8, 1955, she married Darrell Davis in San Antonio, Texas. They moved to Cambridge in March 1958. She served two terms on the Cambridge City Council, from 1974-1982 and was involved with the South Platte Chamber of Commerce, the Nebraska Community Improvement Project and the Shadows of the Past film project.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Betta Nu Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a granddaughter, De Anna Jo Davis.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell Davis of Cambridge; four sons, Jeff and wife, Lori Davis of Lexington, Jay Davis of Lexington Park, Md., Jon and wife, Cindy Davis of Alma, and Joel and wife, Shawna Davis of Logan, Kan.; one daughter, Jill Haussler of Cambridge; one sister, Hanna "Sue" Johnson of Scott Depot, W. Va.; three brothers, Bobby Corum and Mike Corum, both of Atlanta, Ga., and Frank Corum of Kansas City, Mo.; her step-father, Jim Hall of Heber Springs, Ark.; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cambridge with Pastor Don Thompson officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge.

Memorials may be left in her name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary.

Patricia R. 'Patsy' McKillip

ELKHORN - Patricia R. "Patsy" McKillip, 70, died Friday (Aug. 25, 2000) at Mercy Hospital Hospice Center in Omaha.

She was born Dec. 24, 1929, at McCook, to Blaine G. and Esther (Nylander) Dutton. She graduated from McCook High School and continued her education at the University of Nebraska Medical College where she received her bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1954. She earned her master of arts degree at Idaho State University in 1959. She served as head of the nursing department at Idaho State University from 1960-1965 and was director of nursing at Bank Memorial Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho. She taught nursing at Solano Junior College and at the University of Alberta College of Nursing in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She and her family traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada due to her husband's coaching career.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Betty Jane Niccolson.

Survivors include her husband, Leo, of Elkhorn; two sons, Creighton McKillip of Omaha, Blaine and wife, Tracy McKillip, also of Omaha; one sister, Helen Allen of McCook; and five grandchildren.

Services will Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. Philip Neri Church in Omaha.

The rosary will be said Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at the church.

A memorial service in McCook will be scheduled for next week.

Memorials may be directed to the Educational Endowment at St. Philip Neri or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Edward S. 'Bud' Mackey

Edward S. "Bud" Mackey, 87, died Friday (Aug. 25, 2000) at Community Hospital of McCook.

He was born April 3, 1913, on the family farm in Frontier County, to Kirby and Mossie (May) Mackey. He attended rural school and graduated from Red Willow High School in 1931.

On July 4, 1934, he married Verna V. Traphagan. They farmed northeast of McCook until 1981 when they retired and moved to McCook.

He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, the McCook Eagles and McCook Elk Lodge No. 1434.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Woodson and Warren Mackey; one sister, Emma Mae Doyle; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Michael and Holly Anne Messersmith.

Survivors include his wife, Verna of McCook; one son, Jim Mackey of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Neva Jane and husband, Bob Korell of Culbertson, Julie and husband, Gary Gentry of Omaha; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were today, 10:30 a.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials are being accepted in his name.

Dorothy Sevcik McKibbin

MARSHALL, Va. - Dorothy Sevcik McKibbin, 83, died Friday (Aug. 25, 2000) at Marshall Manor in Marshall.

She was born Aug. 27, 1916, at Cicero, Ill., to James and Elizabeth Sevcik. The family moved to Hayes Center when she was five years old.

The family first lived in a "soddie" on the Lazy V/S. She attended grade school near the farm and graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1933.

On March 12, 1939, she married Lyndell W. McKibbin of Hayes Center. They moved to Washington, D.C. in 1941 where she lived for 54 years. She worked for the government in the District of Columbia. In 1995, following her husband's death she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and James Gibbons. Her health declined and she moved to Marshall Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyndell; and one sister, Lorraine.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynda and husband, James Gibbons of Haymarket, Va., and Sharron and husband, Barry Thomas of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Bush officiating. Burial will be at the Hayes Center Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Chapel.

Rose M. Jacobs

GOODLAND, Kan. - Rose M. Jacobs, 95, died Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at Sherman County Good Samaritan Center.

She was born May 22, 1905, at Dresden, Kan., to Joseph and Anna (Mecky) Ritter. She was raised in Dresden and attended school there.

On Oct. 21, 1924, she married Raymond M. Jacobs at Leoville, Kan. They made their home in Dresden. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Leoville Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond on June 8, 1991; one daughter, Lavita Ferron; two sons-in-law, Buford Ferron and Joseph McCoy; three brothers, Bernard, Joseph and August Ritter; and five sisters, Anna Schuhart, Mary Ritter, Sister M. Rosina, Sister M. Pauletta and Treasa Weis.

Survivors include six sons, Norbert and wife, Nancy Jacobs of Sanford, Fla., Herman and wife, Caroline Jacobs of Dresden, Alvin and wife, Maxine Jacobs of Gilbert, Ariz., Elmer and wife, Viola Jacobs of Goodland, Gerald and wife, Diana Jacobs of Slaton, Texas, and Paul and wife, Ann Jacobs of Lakewood, Colo.; three daughters, Camilla McCoy of Goodland, Marcella and husband, Felix Reitcheck, also of Goodland, and Alverda and husband, Robert Moellering, of Hoxie, Kan;. 63 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Leoville, with the Revs. James Hoover and Daryl Olmstead and Sister Marilyn Wall officiating. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Leoville.

Vigil service will be Wednesday, 7 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden.

Visitation will be today until 8 p.m., at the funeral home and will resume Thursday, 8 a.m., at the church in Leoville.

Memorials may be directed to Sherman County Good Samaritan Center or for Masses.

Virgil W. Bailey

OBERLIN - Virgil W. Bailey, 82, died Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.

He was born Dec. 22, 1917, in rural Decatur County, Kan., to Earl and Ida (Young) Bailey. He was raised on a farm north of Genoa, Colo., and moved back to Decatur County in 1931.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a rancher in northern California for most of his life.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Elvy Bailey; and one sister, Mildred Brown.

Survivors include five brothers, Durward Bailey, Melvin and wife, Jacky Bailey, all of Klamath Falls, Ore.; Clifford and wife, Lois Bailey of Alturas, Calif., Earnest and wife, Esther Bailey of Lincoln, Sam Bailey Young and wife, Leona of Chambers; and one sister, Tressie and husband, W.A. Rogers of Selden, Kan.

Graveside services were today, 2 p.m., at the Selden Cemetery with Elder Darwin Hoffman officiating.

Memorials are being accepted in his name.

Katherine Schlueter

Hastings - Katherine Schlueter, 94, died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 2000) at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.

She was born April 3, 1906, in Frank, Russia, to Henry and Katherine (Stroh) Hock. At the age of seven, she moved with her family to McCook. She attended school in McCook and at the Lutheran High School and Business College in Deshler.

On June 26, 1927, she married Arno V. Schlueter in McCook. Through the years they made their home in McCook, Oberlin, Republican City, North Platte, and Culbertson. In 1984 she moved to the Good Samaritan Village of Hastings with her husband. She spent her life as a homemaker.

She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, and a former member of the Lutheran Churches Ladies Aid. She was a Sunday School teacher and a 4-H leader in Culbertson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arno Schlueter, August 30, 1993; two brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Schlueter of El Monte, Calif, and Janice and husband, Lathum Mortensen of Hastings; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Donald E. Boeschen officiating. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery at Hastings.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m. at Butler Volland Funeral Home of Hastings and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be addressed to the Peace Lutheran Church.
