Neal Eldon Pursley

BENKELMAN -- Neal Eldon Pursley, 64, died Sunday (Sept. 16, 2001) at his home in Benkelman.

He was born Feb. 3, 1927, at Benkelman to Clarence and Pearl (Osborn) Pursley. He attended school in Benkelman, graduating from Benkelman High School in 1957.

On Sept. 7, 1969, he married Donna Walter at Haigler. They lived in Benkelman their entire married lives. He worked as a service attendant for Youngston Oil, and later for Four Circle Co-of until his retirement in 1990. During his retirement he worked at the Dundy County Schools at the bus barn and high school through the Green Thumb program.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Benkelman Volunteer Fire Department and the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 361.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna in 1998; and fve brothers, Raymond, Melvin, Dale, Thelman and Clarence, Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Geiken and husband, Todd of Gothenburg, and Janet Pursley of Lincoln; one sister, Donna Hubbard and husband, Rodney of Greeley, Colo.; one brother, Jack Pursley and wife, Bettye of Benkelman; and one grandson.

Services were today at the Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman with the Rev. George Matthew officiating. Interment was at the Benkelman Cemetery.

Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn I. Perry

Holdrege -- Evelyn I. Perry, 92, died on Monday at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.

She was born to Jens Christian and Anna Sophia (Petersen) Anderson on Dec. 12, 1908, in Red Willow County, near Quick. She was the youngest of six children. Her childhood was spent on a family farm in Red Willow County. She graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1926. She then continued her education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

On Dec. 25, 1928, she married Ernest Lewis Perry. The couple had four children. They made their home in Cambridge and then Bertrand before moving to Holdrege. She was a homemaker and taught music for many years. After the death of her husband Ernest Perry in 1962, she married Phil Erickson of Holdrege.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege and was active in various community services.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Ernest Lewis Perry in April of 1962 and Phil Erickson in July of 1993; a brother, Andrew Anderson; four sisters, Laura Rogers, Carrie Groves, Daisy Behnke and Frances Heaton; and one grandson, David Bates.

Survivors include three daughters, Francis Bates and husband, Arthur of Lincoln, Karen Baker and husband, George of Hastings, and Merry Johnson and husband, Gary of Holdrege; one son, E. Bill Perry and wife, Susan of Holdrege; a brother-in-law, Richard "Dick Mulliner of Holdrege;13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege with the Reverend Melva Tranmer officiating. A private family inurnment will precede the services at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, Holdrege Memorial Homes or The Tassel Phelps County Performing Arts Center.

The Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements.

Howard E. Stinnette

POCATELLO, Idaho -- Howard E. Stinnette, 86, of Pocatello, died Aug. 21, 2001, at a local hospital following a long illness.

He was born May 22, 1915, near Wauneta to Tom and May (Skelton) Stinnette. His early years were spent on the family farm southwest of Wauneta, graduating from high school in 1932.

On Jan. 17, 1935, he married Fern Kitt. To this union were born two daughters, Wanda and Barbara.

Howard was a successful businessman who survived in business from the "dirty thirties to the mighty nineties." His ability to adapt to changing times is evidenced by surviving the depression and moving into the technological age; he was a self-taught computer user.

He bought his first grocery store in Wauneta in 1935, and in 1937 he established a trucking business, starting with a borrowed pickup from his father. He hauled cream and poultry to the Denver markets and brought back fresh produce which he sold at sale barns and small grocery stores in Southwest Nebraska. In 1952 he moved his family to McCook where his grocery business had expanded. He was well known and respected n the community and took an active interest in the area., serving on the McCook City Council for two years and participating in other civic activities. Many young people were able to complete college educations because of Howard providing work for them.

Later he expanded his business to a strip mall which included a grocery store, hardware, nursery and other small businesses. He was involved in oil exploration in Kansas and Nebraska, real estate and other investments. Although retired, he retained active ownership of the H.E. Corporation based in McCook and H and F Investments in Pocatello. Until moving to Pocatello, he was an active member of the McCook Elks Club.

Howard was an avid sportsman, enjoying bird hunting, fishing and golf. In 1978, Howard and Fern moved to Lake McConaughy near Ogallala, and wintered in Florida so he could pursue his love of deep-sea fishing.

In order to be closer to family, Howard and Fern moved to Pocatello in 1984, wintering in Palm Springs, Calif. This move enabled him to enjoy the activities of his grandchildren.

Howard was a wise, dependable, honorable, generous and respected man, and his family is blessed in that he truly knew and spent time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will miss you, Howard, Dad, "GP," Great-grandpa, father-in-law.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Fern Stinnette; two daughters, Wanda Wareham and husband, Larry of El Cajon, Calif., and Barbara Koetter and husband, Jim of Pocatello; four grandchildren, Marc Wareham and daughter, Chelsea of El Cajon, Dirk and Kim Koetter and children, Kaylee, Derek, Kendra and Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brent and Debbie Koetter and children, Joseph and Robyn of Pocatello, and Jill Koetter Latimer and husband, Stan and children, Stanton and Nathan of Pocatello; one sister, Wilma Leach of Tucson, Ariz.; and one brother, Leon Stinnette of Broomfield, Colo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold "Hap" Stinnette in 1976.

The viewing will be tonight, 7 to 8 p.m., at the Downard Hansen Funeral Home in Pocatello. Services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at the funeral home, 291 North Garfield.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the charity of the giver's choice, or the Pocatello Regional Medical Center Health Care Foundation

Stella M. Hoagland

MODESTO, Calif. -- Stella M. Hoagland, 83, formerly of McCook, died Sept. 11, 2001, at the Casa de Modesto Nursing Home in Modesto.

She was born Sept. 22, 1917, in Kansas. She grew up in McCook.

She married Keith L. Hoagland, Sr. The family moved to Modesto in 1956.

Survivors include her children, Keith L. "Hoagy" Hoagland Jr. of La Mirada, Calif., and Lorraine Risley of Modesto; and two grandchildren.

Private services took place. Franklin and Downs Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hugo Daberkow

CURTIS -- Hugo Daberkow, 96, of Curtis, died Wednesday (Sept. 19, 2001) at the Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis. He was born Sept. 7, 1905, at West Point, to August and Paulina (Heller) Daberkow. He attended school in Ervington, Scribner and Wisner. He worked as a section hand at the age of 15, and on a road gang for four years. He was a truck driver and mechanic for a gravel company, and attended radio mechanic school in Chicago, Ill. He worked as a Carpenter in Omaha for many years.

In 1935, he married Eleanora Schulz. He worked in Cheyenne, Wyo., on B-17 Bombers until 1945.

In 1946, he married Helen Nelson Tracy at Omaha. She preceded him in death on June 5, 1969. He worked as a carpenter, mechanic and custodian, and also did radio and television repair work and saw sharpening.

He moved to Chapman in 1970, and Curtis in 1995.

He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Central City. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Eleanora and Helen; three brothers, Edward, William and Herman; and one sister, Dorothea.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Graham and husband, Herb of Omaha, and Sandra Spangler and husband, Roland of Curtis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at the Chapman Cemetery with Mike Hefner officiating. Interment will be at the Chapman Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Blase Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Mabel Mues

ARAPAHOE -- Mabel Mues, 93, died Thursday (Sept. 20, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Albert Mues on Oct. 21, 1969.

Survivors include three children, Noel Mues of Arapahoe, Alan Mues of Cambridge, and Mona Vitosh of Odell.

Services are tentatively set for Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Carl Lilienkamp officiating. Interment will be at the Holbrook Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, after 2 p.m.

Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge is in charge of the arrangements.

Charlotte June (Pribbeno) Bilka

IMPERIAL -- Charlotte June (Pribbeno) Bilka, 73, died Tuesday (Sept. 18, 2001) at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial after a short battle with cancer.

She was born June 16, 1928, at Enders to Charles Wesley and Elma Lou (German) Pribbeno. She grew up on the family farm south of Enders. She attended elementary school at the country schools Prairie Rose and District 1. She attended Bob Jones Bible College for her junior year in high school, but her other three years were spent at Chase County High School where she graduated. She attended Doane College in Crete for one year.

On Sept. 25, 1948, she married Laddie C. Bilka. They worked together on the family farm in Enders until moving to Imperial in 1979. She lived there until her death.

She was active at St. Patrick's Catholic Church where she held offices in the auxiliary, and local and state levels. She served on the Chase County Senior Citizens board, and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary 3472.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laddie; one brother, Charles, Jr.; one sister, Marcheta Jaeger.

Survivors include two children, Suz Ann and husband, Lester Harmon of Imperial, and Terry and wife, Nanette of Enders; one brother-in-law, Keith Jaeger of Imperial of Imperial; one sister-in-law, Viola Bilka of Anaheim, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 1:30 p.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imperial with the Rev. Greg Pawlowski presiding. Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

The rosary service is tonight, 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation is today until 6 p.m. at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Genevieve (Heble) Vrbas

ATWOOD, Kan. -- Genevieve (Heble) Vrbas, 91, died Thursday (Sept. 20, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.

She was born Aug. 11, 1910, at Niles, Kan., to Robert and Elizabeth (Greiveldinger) Heble. She attended the Queen of Driftwood country school through the eighth grade. On Oct. 20, 1937, she married James L. Vrbas at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood. They made their home in Atwood. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Rawlins County Hospital and the Good Samaritan Center nursing home. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the St. Rita Ann Circle of the Christian Mother's Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim in 1985; two sons, Gene in 1979, and James in 2000; one son-in-law, Leon Lippold in 2000; one sister, Irene Ksiazek; and two brothers, Leo and Pearl Heble. Survivors include her children, Bob of Denver, Colo., Tom and wife, Janet of Berthoud, Colo., Carolyn Rachac and husband, Gordon of El Cajon, Calif., Jerry and wife, Kathy of Atwood, Mike and wife, Polly of San Diego, Calif., Cathy Lippold of Atwood, and Terry and wife, Donna of Mankato, Kan.; one sister, Elizabeth Rieke of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; one brother, Robert Heble of Kansas City, Kan.; one brother-in-law, Tom Ksiazek of Kansas City; 25 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian Burial services will be Tuesday, 9 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards officiating. Interment will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood.

A parish vigil and Christian Mother's Rosary service is tonight, 7 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home in Atwood.

Visitation is tonight until 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in her name.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mabel (Mock) Mues

ARAPAHOE -- Mabel (Mock) Mues, 93, died Thursday (Sept. 20, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was born Jan. 15, 1908, at Arapahoe to Carl and Mary (Horman) Mock. She was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, and confirmed at the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in rural Arapahoe. She graduated from Holbrook High School in 1927.

On June 11, 1930, she married Albert Mues at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. She spent her entire life in Furnas County. She was employed at the Sam Davis General Merchandise Store in Holbrook, and taught rural school for one year.

She was active in church and social organizations, and the quilting group at church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Mues on Oct. 21, 1969; two infant sisters, Martha and Ida Mock; three brothers, Carl Arthur, and infant, Henry Mock; and one daughter-in-law, Vicki Mues.

Survivors include three children, Noel Mues of Arapahoe, Alan and wife, Muschi of rural Cambridge, and Mona Vitosh and husband, Lawrence of rural Odell; one sister, Rachel Mues; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were today at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Carl Lilienkamp officiating. Interment was at the Holbrook Cemetery.

Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge was in charge of the arrangements.

Charlotte Creasman

ELSIE -- Charlotte Creasman, 94, died Saturday (Sept. 22, 2001) at the Manor Nursing Home in Imperial.

She was born Aug. 10, 1907, near Indianola, to James and Edith (Derrick) Powers. She grew up on the family farm, and graduated from Havana High School, which was north of Indianola, in 1925.

On Dec. 23, 1927, she married Bill Creasman. They made their home near Indianola, and moved to Wauneta in 1940. She worked as a store clerk while living in Wauneta. In 1964 they moved to Elsie. He preceded her in death in 1985, and in 1997 she moved to the Manor Nursing Home in Imperial.

She was a member of the Elsie Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; two brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Teply of Imperial, and Joyce Hofman of McCook; two sons, Billie of Custer, S.D., and Roger and wife, Sharon of Elsie; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Mass of Christian Burial services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. CDT, at the Wallace Catholic Church with the Rev. David Drewelow officiating. Interment will be at the Elsie Cemetery.

The rosary will be recited Tuesday, 7 p.m. MDT, at the Elsie Catholic Church.

Memorials may be given in her name.
