Florence E. Aden
GOTHENBURG - Florence E. Aden, 86, of Gothenburg died April 29, 2001, at Hilltop Estates.

She was born Jan. 11, 1915, to William H. and Mabel C. Purdue Mendenhall in Taylor County, Iowa. She attended school in Hopkins, Mo. She worked at O'Conners Variety Store and for many years at J.M. McDonald in Gothenburg.

In March 1934, she married Clyde Cunning at St. Joseph, Mo. He preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1960.

On July 24, 1973, she married Floyd Aden in Gothenburg.

She was a member of the American Lutheran Church and a member of the Quilter's Group at the church.

Mrs. Aden is survived by her husband, Floyd of Gothenburg; a daughter, Elaine Wright of Gothenburg; and two grandsons, Jeffrey and Kenneth of Colorado.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirle; a son, Fredrick in August 2000; her parents; two sisters; and a brother.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church or to Hilltop Estates.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Steve Berke officiating. Burial will be in the American Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 am. to 5 p.m. today and Wednesday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Delmar E. Bailar
Delmar Earl Bailar, 90, of North Platte died April 29, 2001, at Centennial Park Retirement Village.

He was born Dec. 23, 1910, at North Platte to Lewis I. and Annie May Bayes Bailar. He grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte Senior High School in 1928. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education and a University Teacher's Certificate Jan. 27, 1934. He taught at Lebanon for three years before returning to North Platte to teach at Franklin Junior High.

He joined the U.S. Navy July 8, 1943, and later was chosen Honor Man for his company. He was discharged Nov. 26, 1945. He returned to North Platte and taught at Franklin Junior High and later at Adams Junior High. He received a master's degree Aug. 13, 1953, from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley. He retired in 1976, but continued to work for the athletic department until last fall.

On June 1, 1948, he married Emma Christine Rasmussen at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nassau, Iowa. He served on the North Platte School Board for two consecutive terms, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 985 and past exalted ruler, Walla-Walla Lodge 56, I.O.O.F., Buffalo Bill Kiwanis, the American Legion Post 163 and had been an Eagle Scout.

Mr. Bailar is survived by his wife; two daughters, Adele Bailar of Aurora, Colo., and Karen Lynn (William) Link, a daughter from a previous marriage, of Rosamond, Calif., a sister-in-law, Martie Bailar Gormley of Mich.; five grandchildren, Edie, Eddie, Mike, Lisa and Billy; several great-grandchildren; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin Bailar; and a half brother, Harry Bailar.

Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Public Schools Athletic Department.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel with the Rev. David Lux officiating and Elks funeral rites.

Inurnment will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors provided by the North Platte Veterans Honor Guard.

Viewing will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel.

Margie Ann Birnie
BROKEN BOW - Margie Ann Birnie of Broken Bow died April 28, 2001, at the Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow. She was 64.

She was born Dec. 29, 1936, to Harry and Bonnie Fair Williams in the Ashcreek Community near Broken Bow. Her primary school years were spent in Ashcreek and Round Hills school. She graduated from high school in 1954 while earning her room and board.

On Sept. 12, 1954, she married Elmer Birnie from Broken Bow.

They lived on a farm and made their home southwest of Broken Bow in the Ryno Community.

Mrs. Birnie spent 12 years at O.P. Skaggs as a clerk. She was later employed with Becton Dickenson for two years and in sales positions for many years until her health failed.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Broken Bow, a Custer County 4-H Leader and Home Extension member.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Ron (Susan) of White Lake, Mich., Doug (Jeanette) of Broken Bow and Kent (Yvonne) of Kearney; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Drew, Natasha, Daniel, Tyler, Nathan, Callum and Logan; three brothers, Wayne (Roberta) Williams of Broken Bow, Lyle "Gus" (Mary) Williams of Rio Vista, Calif., and Ivan (Emily) Williams of Basset; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a infant sister.

Memorials are suggested to the Cedars Richardson House of Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow with Gene Goben officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Iverson Funeral Home in Broken Bow.

Derrick L. Dalton
SAUK CENTRE, M.N. - Derrick L. Dalton, 37, of Sauk Centre, M.N., formerly of Hershey, died April 18, 2001, at Sauk Centre, in an auto accident.

He was born July 8, 1963, at Huron, S.D., to Marvin and Jeannine Faulstich Dalton. He graduated from Rosholt High School in 1981.

He enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard in 1980. He attended Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, S.D., and studied carpentry.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1985 in Korea. He lived in Huron and worked at SoDak Circuits and later at South Dakota Pork Industry. He then worked as an independent carpenter. He later moved to Sioux Falls and worked in maintenance at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School.

He was a member of the Carpenter's and Joiner's Union if Minneapolis, where he was a foreman. He moved to Sauk Centre in 1999.

He enjoyed the outdoor especially fishing and hunting.

Mr. Dalton is survived by his parents, four children, Jarrid Harley and Alyssa Marie Dalton of Hinesville, Ga., Kraig Brown of Long Pine and Harley Dalton of Oregon; two sisters, Karin (Brent) Ireland of Tifton, Ga., and Jenn (Corey) Herrold of West Liberty, Iowa; two brothers, Bryan (Lili) Dalton of West Liberty and Brian (Teresa) Maxwell of Britton, S.D.; his grandparents, Esther Dalton of Highmore, S.D., Harvey and Dena Faulstich of Miller, S.D., Fred and Erma Maxwell of Wilmot, S.D., and Violet Uhden of Milbank, S.D.; a special friend, Danelle Zenzen of Sauk Centre; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Harley Dalton and Henry Uhden.

Services were April 23, 2001, at the Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt, S.D., and further services will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Graveside services were in the Highmore City Cemetery in Highmore, S.D.

Loretta K. Ericksen
Loretta Kathryn Supancheck Ericksen, 86, of North Platte died April 28, 2001, at her home.

She was born August 23, 1914, to Peter and Mary Phillips Supancheck at David City.

On May 8, 1937, she married Ralph Ericksen at North Platte, and they had been married for 64 years. She had accumulated more than 4,500 volunteer hours at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center gift shop. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and also member of various bridge clubs.

She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, china painting and crossword puzzles. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and wouldn't speak to anyone while watching a game. She also had a wonderful sense of humor.

Mrs. Erickson is survived by her husband; four daughters, Dianne (Norm) Hennigan of Omaha, Joyce Ryberg of Carroll, Iowa, Dixie (T.D.) Steele of Moneta, Va., and Linda Ericksen of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a sister, Doris Cavanaugh of Garden Grove, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ann Jacobs; her parents; two sisters; and four brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Christian Wake services were April 29 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial was April 30 at the church with her great-nephew Rev. Joe Hannappel presiding and the Revs. Art Faesser and Robert Karnish assisting.

Adams & Swanson Funeral Home of North Platte was in charge.

Mabel Estabrook
GRANT - Mabel Estabrook, 81, of Grant died April 29, 2001, at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.

She was born Sept. 8, 1919, at Overton to Pete and Amy Hodges Stryker. The family moved to Perkins County in 1929 and she graduated from Grant High School in 1937.

On Aug. 24, 1939, she married Harvey Estabrook at North Platte.

They had a farm northeast of Grant until 1964, when they moved into Grant. While in Grant she worked at the Sale Barn Cafe and managed the Grant Bakery for several years. She moved to the nursing home in 1993.

She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharron Sudbury of Grant and Darlene Seward of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a son, Harvey (Rose) of Hillsboro, Ore.; a sister, Frances Fecht of Kearney; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Estabrook was preceded in death by her husband; a great-grandson; and a sister.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Grant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Nothstine officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant is in charge.

Louise Nelson
GOTHENBURG - Louise Nelson, 74, of Gothenburg died April 30, 2001, at the Gothenburg Hospital.

She was born Sept. 20, 1926, at Farnam to Harry Lee and Pearl Bertha Ostendorf Lattin.

On Oct. 9, 1951, she married Elmer S. Nelson at Lexington. He preceded her in death June 1, 1976.

Mrs. Nelson attended the United Methodist Church and was a longtime resident of Gothenburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie (Kermit) Bratten of Loveland, Colo.; and two granddaughters, Lisa and Heidi Bratten of Loveland.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Shellenbarger; and a brother, Raymond Lattin.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Gothenburg Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Berke officiating.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Haley Marie Smith
ARVADA, Colo. - Haley Marie Smith of Arvada, Colo., granddaughter of Gordon and Shirley Smith and great-granddaughter of Leita Smith, all of North Platte, died April 19, 2001. She was 10.

She was born Feb. 13, 1991, in Denver to Barry and Debra Smith.

She was a fourth-grader at Campbell Elementary School in Arvada.

She was active in the Girl Scouts and played softball with the Arvada Softball Association.

Survivors include her parents; her brother, Jacob of Arvada; her grandparents, Barb and Dave Mellinger of Aurora, Colo., and Gordon and Shirley Smith of North Platte; two great-grandmothers, Opal Linder of Livingston, Mont., and Leita Smith of North Platte; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Haley Smith Memorial Fund at First Bank Colorado, P.O. Box 507 Arvada, CO 80001.

Services were April 24, 2001, at Crossroads Church of Denver in Wheat Ridge, Colo. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge.
